Love seeing people put the time and effort into the older 90s box style trucks regardless of its a Ford, Chevy or dodge. I find it a bit cooler when it’s a old school restoration paint project in the backyard! Awesome job for what you had going on considering it was a outside but it still came out pretty great for what it’s worth. Hopefully she gives you a couple more solid years!
FYI - Valspar makes a product called Anti Rust Armor that is very similar to Rust-oleum, but the Valspar paint can be tinted any color you want, just like normal paint. You're not stuck with the stock colors Rust-oleum makes. I used it to paint a trailer, and matched the color to my truck. Worked great. It used to be at Lowe's, but they recently (May '23) discontinued it. You can probably find it at a paint store that sells Valspar.
Considering what cash you invested, and doing the work outdoors, your result is nothing short of splendid! I never considered using Rustoleum as a vehicle top coat! It makes sense, as their enamel is a really tough coating once it dries well. Sounds like the "go to" paint on your other projects, and it will stop the surface rust! WELL DONE!
@@brad6523the ones I had came from Trailer Wheel & Frame in Houston. But that hat was 30+ years ago. You might be able to call them and see if they have them.

Nice job! I use rustoleum a lot. Wait a couple weeks for it to fully cure (ask me how I know), then wet sand and buff, and it will look like you clear coated it. If you keep wax on it, the paint will look new forever, if you don't, it starts fading and discoloring pretty quick compared to urethane paint.
Awesome results! Painting outdoors is risky but in some climates it works, obviously it works in your area. Funny car painting story - in the mid-50s a neighbors wife wanted her car painted to match her favorite bright red nail polish. She ranted about it for years. Her husband finally said 'if I do it will you finally stop nagging me about it?'. She agreed. He actually bought hundreds of bottles of her fav color nail polish and stood in their front yard using the tiny brush in the lid to apply nail polish on her car hood - during the peak of Georgia's pollen season! It was a nasty mess and she became irate. He was an attorney so they had both signed an agreement. The agreement did not mention conditions that might negatively impact the end product. That huge Cadillac had a great engine, it was an awesome beast that lasted almost 2 decades with a bright red hood and bright green everywhere else. Note to self: be careful what you ask for!
Nice job! A cheap Rustoleum paint job, applied outdoors, won't make your old truck look like a new vehicle that just rolled off the showroom floor, but it will make your 1990 truck look like a really nice 1990 truck. You will also avoid the "second look" from every cop that you pass. Mission accomplished!
@@codymarsh8117 Why is that??? I said it was a nice job and have given his video a strong like. He's made an enormous improvement to the look of the old vehicle, with some hard work and a mere $128 worth of materials. A professional factory body repair and paint job would have been about $3,000 dollars, which is more than the total value of a 1990 Ford truck. Those guns spray good for a few times but they are made from cheap parts so after a few jobs and cleaning they become garbage. Plus cheap guns use more materials. If you are doing something like this they are great but if you are doing it for a living then invest in a good gun is worth it in the long run. They atomize the paint better allowing better coverage so you use less which saves money. Plus they are made from better parts so with proper cleaning they will spray the same for years
I used to paint bikes with custom jobs using spray can paint , extract the paint into Mason jars , let it breath for a day to expel out the propellents , mixed custom colors , metallics , chameleon , etc . used an inexpensive shop gun or an old Devilbliss , and it played down beautifully !! That was over 15 years ago . and those jobs are still showroom today !! 😎
The paint job turned out to looking really nice for the kind of paint used. The back seat area looked like it was hardly used and the rest of the interior is immaculate for a 30 year old truck. Coming from Texas, depending on the part of the state as well can also guarantee little to no rust, so this was a good little investment.
You definitely definitely have a knack for painting. I don't think the average person could have achieved those results. When I was 16 I tried the same thing on my old truck. I just painted the hood! When I was finished It looked like it had been vandalized! It looked way worse than the faded old hood. You did a nice job!
Just shot my sons truck rustolium red. Came out nice. Thought I was the only one on the planet that used rustolium and shot a truck in my yard. That ol Ford turned out pretty nice. Good job
Working on finishing up a 87 F150 and using Rustoleum with hardener but using acetone for my thinner. Also using the HF gun that I got on sale for $10. Wish mine was as un-rusty as yours. Got to love panel replacement on rust belt trucks. Yours looks pretty good.
Very nice! I imagine you're very happy with the results. I would be. I am inspired to do some similar painting on my garden tractors. Thanks for the video!
I did this to a 1969 VW Beatle many years back with a dozen or so spray cans. It works if you don't get too close. You have to drift the spray from about 2ft back.
Slapper spoon would have helped ease that crease out. The hood has pins on top of the perimeter of the core support that adjust up and down to lift the front into alignment w/ the fender. All in all, its way better than it was and not prone to go to rust from under the primer. She'll hold up nicely for as long as you need her. A farm truck is born.
Just a plain hammer and block to flatten the crease out. I've even used a hammer and the plastic handle of a screwdriver to knock out some hard dents... But it's on a beater car.
All in All it looks great. I have a HVLP Cap Sprayer. It runs off 15-20 psi pressure. The abbreviation is High Volume, Low Pressure. Try turning the air pressure down a few notches to control the overspray. But heck for a $15 Harbour Freight gun you certainly got 'er done! I had a '95 F150 with dual fuel tanks like yours. I never could figure out why Ford put 2, 12gal fuel cells? It would've been nice to have a 24 gal plus the 12 for emergencies. Anyway good job, your attention to detail and the way you plotted the job out are commendable!

Bro nicely done ... I did the same paint job for a 95 f150 using rustoleum gloss white plus mineral spirits mixing ratio 50/50 and i also add a bit of hardener for paint to dry fast ...
Well damn! Its certainly not the worst paint job ive seen! Seriously though for a work truck this is perfectly fine. Good call on using white as it hides a lot of sins. Ive seen people try to paint their used trucks black and it never comes out good. 😊
I gave my first car a rustoleum paint job back in the early 90's.Didin't look that bad, but it did fade fairly quickly. I would instead recommend implement (tractor) paint with hardener added. It's cheap and sprays much better.
Hiya Griff, the truck looks great - way back i bought a fleet of small vans, gave each ones a rubbing down, masked up and sprayed them with house paint, Brilliant white gloss as it was the cheapest, but added a small touch of black or blue just to give it a hint of colour, mixed it with cheap grade petrol (gas) mixed well and sprayed it on, and like yours just ended up shiny.. My neighbour saw a van for sale, it got sold, i done another so neighbour asked - Why did it come back / nooo was just another for sale then another, all looking the same.. LOL. you have to do what you have to do eh.. great Video Thank you - Ian - UK.

RBTech these 87-91 model ford trucks are pretty cheap over here in the states, even for a nice one. after shipping it might still be worth it to you. Couldn’t say how much shipping would be though
My buddy used to repaint his old pickups with a can of Rustoleum and a brush and he always said, “I think it looks pretty good!” He never gave a damn what anybody else thought and he saved a lotta money. That’s the attitude for me...
Lay out a tarp for the ground and wet it to keep dust down also keep hose clean every 3-5 min... spray a 'tack coat' to help hold the next 2 coats.. spray criss-cross for metallics in several light continuous coats.
I did my s10 like this and it turned out just fine despite what my “professional” body shop friend said about it “yuck it’s gonna stink and peel off in a month” had my truck for a year and a half before the crank blew up and the paint was the exact same way it was the day I finished spraying, had that same buddy help me try to fix up the rust spots in my truck and a week later it was rusted right through again, fixed it myself and it’s just fine a month later, so lesson learned if you want something done right do it yourself
Hey.. it looks good.. don't let the internet paint professionals get under your skin with their negative comments.. you did a really good job with it.. want to come over and paint my truck white too?
Nice find Griff ...love them Ford trucks ive got a 95 F250 XLHD...ive had it loaded down with firewood pulling a trailer with 2 full sized 4x4 atv's and more firewood and the 1 ton suspension never squatted ....id go with rhino liner ..them plastic liners dont do nothing but start rust again. Check out LMC truck parts they have everything for ford trucks
Its easy to be critical but it came out awesome under the circumstances. I woulda been more patient with the wind but it may not have allowed the paint to act right. I can tell that you were fully aware of its direction and owned it in spite of. . .
My dad did something like this 25yrs ago he had a Chevy pickup and my uncle work for a airline repair shop so my dad was able to get some airline grade paint that stuff was strong af and it looked beautiful tilly brother got the truck and totaled it
Everything is amazing on it. The only downside is there is a tiny bit of sun damage on the hood. But that’s just the hood. Everywhere else on the truck has No sun damage, No scratches or No dents
It might not be the thing you're going for, but the 1980s Porn Music Overlay when you painted it, kinda got me worked up. I sent a link to my ol lady, hoping it does the same... and gets me some approval to paint my Jeep the same way. The ending helped. Kinda like a 'White Finally' kinda thing. Good job Bro.
Find a couple of old trampolines and make a Quonset hut portable spray booth. It will keep the wind from blowing paint everywhere and cut down on dust. Rustoleum overspray will travel a long distance (you don’t want to pay to have a neighbors stuff fixed)
Man, for a quick, cheap-n-dirty paint job outdoors, that came out looking darn nice! It ain't showroom, but it's a really darn good looking work truck now, and an *enormous* improvement over the rattlecan-primer job!
I made 3 round trips by there while you were painting and you painted my truck too. Thanks

I've painted many vehicles with rustolem ,and it fades fast! ,but it makes a great base for real paint.
Fades and attracts mold
Why do I love these 80s/90s trucks so much... I wonder how much it'd cost to get one over to Germany....
RBTech these 87-91 model ford trucks are pretty cheap over here in the states, even for a nice one. after shipping it might still be worth it to you. Couldn’t say how much shipping would be though
Every year my brother would paint his 25 year old Jeep with six cans of spray paint
My buddy used to repaint his old pickups with a can of Rustoleum and a brush and he always said, “I think it looks pretty good!” He never gave a damn what anybody else thought and he saved a lotta money. That’s the attitude for me...
Wow.. This paint job isn’t bad at all!! Truck looks solid man
$128 paint job well done. Looked like a pro job after.
Good for you man. I just spent 260 on paint for a camper shell on a newer ford. Shoulda went this route. If it aint right...paint it white.
That rear bench seat though..
Nice.
Lay out a tarp for the ground and wet it to keep dust down also keep hose clean every 3-5 min... spray a 'tack coat'
to help hold the next 2 coats.. spray criss-cross for metallics in several light continuous coats.
Turned out great, Looks like a truck from the hood, next to my crib
Very nice! I don't know what I expected, but you did a damn good job!
Its easy to be critical but it came out awesome under the circumstances. I woulda been more patient with the wind but it may not have allowed the paint to act right. I can tell that you were fully aware of its direction and owned it in spite of. . .
Awesome job, i like that body style of truck.
My dad did something like this 25yrs ago he had a Chevy pickup and my uncle work for a airline repair shop so my dad was able to get some airline grade paint that stuff was strong af and it looked beautiful tilly brother got the truck and totaled it
Nice paint job. Nothing to be ashamed of. Kudos!
Thanks!
I have the same truck! Bought it to pull my boat. Great truck!
You wouldn't know it wasn't a higher dollar paint you used. It looks really nice!
Thanks!
County as Hell with killer beats in background! Haha. Hats off to ya. That’s how you wear out a truck.
Can't beat rust oleum I did my 91 in two tone black and charcoal grey...👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁
Find a couple of old trampolines and make a Quonset hut portable spray booth.
It will keep the wind from blowing paint everywhere and cut down on dust. Rustoleum overspray will travel a long distance (you don’t want to pay to have a neighbors stuff fixed)
Nothing like a good Old Texas truck!!👍🏾
That came out sick!! Great job! Way better than I expected.
Beautiful i have 1990 f150 just like it what a wonder a little clean paint will do. I love those updated mirrors.
Man, for a quick, cheap-n-dirty paint job outdoors, that came out looking darn nice! It ain't showroom, but it's a really darn good looking work truck now, and an *enormous* improvement over the rattlecan-primer job!
You’ve inspired me to tackle my ‘59 Studebaker!
Awesome!
