      I looked further into the Mormon teachings and have found some potential issues that need clarification. Is it true that Joeseph Smith married his own daughter and mother, because if so than that is clearly against the teachings of God’s word! Also, is it true that Mormons believe that our God YHWH (the Alpha & the Omega - the beginning and the end) had a father and a mother? If so, then that is also going against Biblical teachings. Please clarify if possible, thank you.

      Hi, thanks for your question. While Joseph Smith married multiple wives, he was never married to his mother or his daughter. Plural marriage is not practiced in the Church today, but to learn more about the practice historically, visit www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/history/topics/joseph-smith-and-plural-marriage?lang=eng. Regarding your other question, little is known or taught in the Church about the origin of God, but the doctrine of humans' eternal potential is central to the gospel of Jesus Christ and gives us hope, love and gratitude. We hope you and others interested will learn more about our beliefs on the subject here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/becoming-like-god?lang=engIf you have other questions, we encourage you to reach out to missionaries from the Church. 5:40 - "To live as he lives." In other words, to become a god just like him. That's what the lds church means by "exaltation" even though they would never go into detail publicly or for younger members. For someone to say we can become like God would be a very unBiblical/blasphemous thing to say. It is the same scheme Satan used to trick Adam and Eve in the beginning. Lucifer (being the father of lies) uses schemes like these to trick people into not trusting the true Gospel.
    Please trust in Jesus Christ ALONE and the work He did for your salvation already, not your own works. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 4:3-5) If you are partly trusting in your works also, you have not given Jesus your FULL/COMPLETE trust in Him alone. He is the ONLY way, the truth, and life, no one can come to the Father except through Him alone.

      Is it not written that the Saints shall be temples of God and God's omnipresent Spirit shall dwell in them and they shall become like God the Father to inherit his Kingdom? Even though I believe the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit I also believe in the Omnipresent Spirit of God in his Kingdom. NOT JUST ONLY IN THE THREE Separate members of the GODHEAD. For the Christians don't have the complete truth.
      As for saying showing our faith by our works is evil. That is not the truth.... For Jesus Taught'
      Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify
      your Father which is in heaven.
      If you speak against the Saints of God becoming like God and inheriting his Kingdom after Jesus commanded Be Ye Perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect to try tell us the goal of becoming like God comes from Satan. Then you are speaking against Bible Doctrine and speaking against Jesus himself. If becoming like God was only Satan's idea (which its not), then why would Jesus be teaching Satan''s idea as his Father's Truth? is God divided against himself? Nay.
      Revelations 14:7 John speaks of the Angel of God to restore back the gospel again to all the inhabitants of the earth in the last days. The restored gospel from the angle of God would be all spread around the planet and John saw the restoration of the gospel in vision in the last days of the world. (This wasn't the bible).
      Now If John was talking only about the angle in Paul's day to the Galatian Saints then John would've given the same warning as Paul gave but John didn't because John knew that the true angel of God would send the everlasting gospel back again to the earth in the latter-days not in Paul's time because in Paul's time the apostasy was only just beginning among the saints he was teaching....

      Eternal life doesn't come by being chosen, but by choosing to follow Jesus, which will access His saving grace.

      Just to clarify, we will all return to the presence of God, but we won't all STAY there. We lived in God's presence before mortality, and in being sent here to be born, we suffered spiritual death by being removed from the presence of God. After mortality, we will be brought back to the presence of God (ALL of us that have ever been sent to Earth) and there be judged before the judgement seat of Christ. This is how Christ overcame spiritual death completely - if you think about it, anything less than all of us would make Jesus's victory over spiritual death incomplete.
      After the judgement, some will be sent away from God's presence to dwell in other places, suffering a second spiritual death (being removed from God's presence again, post-judgement). This is where the confusion comes from between those who believe we will be saved purely by grace no matter what we do, and those who believe we will be saved by our works. The reality is that our works cannot save us - only the grace of the Savior can do that. However, by our works, we unlock access to that grace to be saved from the second spiritual death.

      Hi, thanks for your question. Jesus Christ taught that “except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). For those who have passed on without accepting Jesus and being baptized, proxy baptism for the deceased is a free will offering, performed by Latter-day Saints in temples around the world. According to Church doctrine, a departed soul in the afterlife is completely free to accept or reject such a baptism - the offering is freely given and must be freely received. You're not correct in your assumptions. That there is only one heaven and one hell. Revelations Chapter 20:12-13 : tells us that all the dead spriits in the spirit prison of the temporary hell shall be all delivered up from hell for the Final Judgement of God. then they will be assigned a degree of glory from God according to their works.. Where this not so, then Paul would not be telling us that the dead who did not sin unto perdition would be assigned a degree of glory in the resurrection of the dead. (1 Cor 14:40-43) But the second death, the lake of fire or the hell that lasts forever and has no end also known as Outer Darkness is assigned to the devil and his angles and to perdition. So what happens is this, all are delivered up from the spirit prison of hell for the final judgement... Those who are found worthy of inheriting a kingdom of Glory will be assigned into their various kingdoms of glory (for in my Father's House are Many Mansions), and those who are found worthy of inheriting no kingdom of glory (sons of perdition) will be assigned a kingdom of no glory and cast into that hell that has no end to it. So there are three kingdoms of heaven, and two hells. The Spirit Prison which is the temporary hell and the pernament hell with no end to it which is Outer Darkness..

    Paul provides thorough teaching about the resurrection of Christians from the dead. This is a direct counter to some group of Corinthians who did not believe in such a resurrection. He shows that natural death is not the end of life for Christians; it is the last step before receiving a glorified, resurrected body like that of the risen Christ. That ''spiritual'' body will be as different from our current bodies as a star is from a fish. In that moment, for all who have believed in Christ, living and dead, death will be defeated for good.

First, it is another name for spirit prison, a temporary place in the postmortal world for those who died without a knowledge of the truth or those who were disobedient in mortality. Second, it is the permanent location of Satan and his followers and the sons of perdition, who are not redeemed by the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Short answer, YES. However, to understand LDS theology you need to know 2 things: LDS believes in what is known in Evangelical Christianity as the Finished Work doctrine. This means the church believes that Jesus' death saves absolutely (clearly taught in Scripture) and that Jesus died for all (also clearly taught). Second, LDS Theology is the purest form of what is known as "Centered Set" Theology (vs Bounded-Set) - that the truth about Jesus Christ and His death on the cross to pay the price for sins never changes and there are no artificial "lines" (boundaries / "bounded-set") drawn.
      The reason you're maybe asking this question is you implicitly have multiple lines drawn around Jesus - for example, does my 6 month old who hasn't repented burn in Hell forever if he dies tomorrow? There is NO Bible verse to explain the line you and every Christian including staunch Calvinists draw saying he's "in", but someone who never heard or was preached an incomplete Gospel, burns in hell forever too? Why do you draw the line at death or having an imperfect idea of God or Christ or the Gospel or Correct Doctrine etc etc etc?
      God is a loving Father who Jesus died for His Children and has given us as his children Free Will - Period. Most non-LDS Christians are theologically either present or future determinists / Calvinists. At what point does Free Will cease, and the immutable will of God for salvation become eternally fixed? At your death? LDS believes the only one who goes to Hell is the one who rejects Jesus Christ continuously. Free Will never ceases. The death of Jesus to restore us to relationship with Him never ceases to be true. The love of God to want and actually allow the restoration of His Children never ceases. The love of God to absolutely make sure you have a chance to completely and fully hear the Gospel never changes. Do some of God's children reject Him - yes. Do some continue to do so - yes. Yes, you go to hell if you reject Jesus. Don't reject Jesus. Repent and believe and trust in His blood shed for your sins and follow Jesus.

The sons of perdition will be the exception, which are few. Out of the people who do go to heaven, they will be placed in one of three different kingdoms, based upon their works on earth. Am I understanding this correctly?

    • @brianfromhome
      @brianfromhome 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is exactly correct. Only sons of perdition will have no reward, like you mentioned. A son of perdition is someone who has been blessed with a sure knowledge of God (beyond just faith) and then "denies the Holy Ghost" (essentially, they decide to go against the knowledge they have been given and renounce God), so I have to assume they will be quite few, since most of us never receive the sure knowledge in this life that would be required to deny the Holy Ghost. Virtually everyone will receive a reward by virtue of accepting God's plan to come to Earth in the first place - how large the reward ends up being will depend on how dedicated we are to KEEP following his plan after coming here.

I have heard a number of people who have argued against the Church of Jesus Christ, and I try to do a good job of encouraging positive dialogue, but maybe I read too much into the original comment. One concern I have with this quotation is that better understanding would come from examination of passages of scripture that explain it more--passages that many Christians are either ignorant about or willfully ignore--but people often aren't willing to really examine something that goes against their accepted notions. Many people don't hang around long enough in a comments section for an extended dialogue, with intentions of harmonious learning. That being said, I also run into a lot of people who attempt to tell us what we believe rather than asking, and I still recommend that people ask. Wat is the church"s position on"speaking with tongues?"

    • @mselneous
      @mselneous 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim Gibbs I am not speaking for the Church as a whole, but only from what I have learned and understand about “speaking with tongues”. In Acts 2 we learn about the Gift of Tongues and the role that the Holy Spirit plays in receiving such a gift. It seems, and I am going to assume, that English is your native/mother tongue. Have you ever tried to learn to speak a different language? Learning to speak Mandarin, Swedish or Swahili, for example, definitely requires a different “tongue”. To some, speaking in tongues comes easily, and to others it may seem impossible, but I have personally heard stories where people have been granted the Gift of Tongues as described by the Apostle Paul, and have been able to hear and understand, as well as speak and be clearly understood, in foreign countries where they do not know the language. I also know of many missionaries who serve in foreign countries and are only given 2-6 weeks to learn the language of that country. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit and the sincere desire to serve God that these missionaries are able to quickly learn a whole new language in such a short period of time.

      Not only that but the Bible teaches it in 1 Peter chapter 3 and 4... Christ taught the gospel to the dead.
      and...
      Christ told the thief on the cross that he would be with Christ in paradise when they died. So they die and got to "paradise" right? But when Christ is resurrected what is the first thing He tells Mary? He says "Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God."
      So He went to paradise but did not go to heaven, where His Father is? That is because "paradise" and "prison" are the spirit world. Paradise to those who were good and accepted Christ in this life and prison for those who had not accepted Christ, done evil, or did not have the chance as of yet.
      Then you read in 1 Peter why Christ went and taught to the spirits of those who have died... specifically mentioning even those who died in the flood.

    • @prestongull1018
      @prestongull1018 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re truly curious, not exactly - it’s a complicated answer. In short, NO.
      In long, I think the church has certain knowledge that allows one to learn and make promises with God to progress to become _like_ God (so do a lot of philosophies, right?). This life is more about becoming _like_ Him than being _with_ Him. Typically people don’t like to be around others that aren’t like them. So anyone that truly wishes to be _with_ God will try to become _like_ him. That can be ANYONE, and these are done in two-way-promises made and are usually done by with those with authority given by God (they sort of help write the “contract”, or the ordinance that is done, an example being baptism). But anyone in this life that doesn’t totally understand the concepts will be given the full concepts at some point and be given the opportunity to promise to change and become better people (promises like done through baptism), which will allow us to become closer to God. This can be anyone, you don’t have to be an earthly “member” to “be with God.” I know many people that aren’t members that probably are in a better place with their learning and progression than some members I know. :) We’re all human. Point is -- be good, do good, you’ll be happy and get the whole context at some point. It’s bound to happen to anyone.
      Edit: italics

      @00Fisher00 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll offer some different thoughts. We all must rely on Jesus Christ for salvation; we fall short of God's glory and can only return to the Father through the power and grace of Jesus Christ. As we decide to follow Christ, we become members of His Church. There are formal ordinances we complete (such as baptism, notably) that show that we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ (known in our time as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). These ordinances are sometimes performed posthumously by proxy. The Church of Jesus Christ exists to help people increase their faith in Jesus Christ and become more like Him (repentance) so that we can be forgiven through Him. Does that help? From the word "atheist" in your screen name, I feel like you would have other questions, even if only out of passing curiosity; if that is the case, feel free to keep asking.

      Yeah, you should read that more often. The Apostles had to say these things because the great Apostasy had already begun. All of Asia turned away from truth, others to fables, others to false teachers, false letters "as if from us" (the apostles), etc etc...
      They turned incredibly quick from the gospel and began teaching "another gospel." Christ teaches baptism by immersion... that was changed, some don't even teach baptism or real repentance or the full Atonement, or that we must keep God's commandments. The have removed the most important and simple parts of the gospel.
      In short... the "christians" took away from the gospel, added to the gospel and continue to preach "another gospel."
      This was predicted both in the book of Mormon and in the Bible... Christ said "behold the kingdom of God shall be taken from you and given to a nation producing the fruits thereof," His apostles said that Christ's second coming would not occur until there first came a "falling away," and why would there be need for a "restitution of all things" if there hadn't been a "falling away?"
      The great apostasy is so plain to see, only those who do not have eyes to see and ears to hear can miss it.

After death, the human body decomposes, which, over time, results in the body no longer existing in any meaningful way. Sometimes unplanned events or intentional actions like cremation can accelerate the destruction of the dead cells of the body, but the end result isn't much different. Eternal life, yes. Exaltation...... pretty sure this is not correct. The Savior used the term eternal life, but not the term exaltation. The word exaltation, in this context, is used only in the doctrine and covenants, and even there it can only be found in section 132. Why?

    Please read your Bibles, there is only one kingdom, God’s kingdom that, through faith alone in Jesus and His atoning work on the cross, are we (former enemies of God) are able to be washed in His blood. But those who do not repent and trust in Christ will get the just reward for their deeds, God is holy and just, He cannot just let criminals go, He must punish them if He is to remain just, that is why God sent Jesus, to pay the fine for our sin on our behalf, we broke the law, Jesus paid the fine. God can do what is legal and just and right and allow us to live forever when we put our trust in the gospel of Gods grace (jesus on the cross ( we didn’t deserve it yet He so freely gives it to us )), but those who do not trust Christ are still in their sins, please y’all read your Bibles, Paul said in Galatians 1:8, “but if we, or an angel from Heaven, should preach to you a gospel (good news) contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!” The revelation of Joseph Smith was a scam, please open your hearts and research to see if it is true or not, and if you find it to be untrue, please repent and believe in Jesus Christ alone and what His inerrant, perfect, complete, beautiful word says.

    This doesn't sit right with me. I've read a few things about Mormonism and its all very blasphemous. I am a new believer so of course, I don't know everything but I do know that after you die, there is no such thing called spirit prison, you are either saved because you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and spend eternity in Heaven, or you're not and spend eternity in hell. The Bible and The Book of Mormon do not go hand in hand, they are completely different. It isn't too late to repent and give your life to Jesus, he still loves you no matter your sins. This is a worldly religion, not a relationship with Christ. Whoever is reading this, please don't follow this, it isn't the true gospel, you will be deceived. Read the Bible for yourselves :).

      I study both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and I find that they go together wonderfully. I'll be happy to share some passages from the Bible that you will find helpful: 1 Peter 3:18-19 and 1 Peter 4:6. They directly refer to Spirit Prison, with a reference to Jesus Christ Himself going to the Spirit World between His death and resurrection to ensure that people there were taught:
      "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison".
      "For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit."
      Many people ignore these passages because they don't know how to explain them without changing some of their existing beliefs, or in other words, without learning something new. One of the great joys of the Restoration is the amount of truth that has been revealed to us. "Mormonism" isn't much of anything, but the Church of Jesus Christ is wonderful, and God is doing a great work through it in our time. I want to keep learning, and I encourage you to do the same. Feel free to learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at ComeUntoChrist.org or ChurchOfJesusChrist.org. LDS should tune up their terms to better align with scripture if their aim is to align their doctrine closer to Protestant, Evangelicals and this is a good example. Instead of "Exaltation" the term is "Glorification." The word "Glory" if found 160 times in the New Testament. *Salvation is primarily 3 things.* Justification, Sanctification, Glorification.
    - *Justification* : The Just shall live by Faith. Hab 2:4 . Justification is the Grace by Faith (which is a gift from God - eph 2:8) available to all who Believe in the Gospel of Jesus (1st Cor 15:1-4). that's it. No Works required or the Cross was in vain (as Paul puts it). Justification declares a guilty sinner Not Guilty.
    - *Sanctification* : Is the process of the Holy Spirit working in the Believer. Not a fixed heart but a new, regenerated heart. See James 2 and how he says he will show his faith BY his works proving that faith without works is dead faith (not real faith - a faker). Works is the by-product of a new heart, and true faith and its evidence.
    - *Glorification* : Is basically what they're alluding to in this video. The Bema Seat of of Christ. The Crowns the Rewards. Eternity in His Kingdom.
    -Justification removes the penalty of sin.
    -Sanctification removes the power of sin.
    -Glorification removes the presence of sin.
    -Justification DECLARES a person righteous.
    -Sanctification MAKES a person Righteous.
    The combination of these three = Salvation.
    Salvation begins with Faith. " _The Just shall live by FAITH_ "
    However, the bigger issue I see here is the idea that _EVERYONE_ every person who ever lived is a "child of God?" Not scriptural. And that that _EVERYONE_ will be resurrected to live eternally in Heaven?
    *NO* *WRONG*
    " _Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it_ " ~Mathew 5:13

    • @00Fisher00
      @00Fisher00 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Church of Jesus Christ doesn't need to align its terminology with other churches. Sometimes common terminology is helpful, but some existing terminology is tied to incorrect ideas. Exaltation is an important doctrinal truth. There are different degrees of glory, only one of which is included in exaltation, and I don't think the term "glorification" appears in scripture at all. Everyone who has lived on Earth lived with God the Father as His spirit child before our births here on Earth; we separate ourselves from God through sin, and when we are reborn spiritually Christ becomes our spiritual father. Everyone will be resurrected to be judged. Not everyone will receive of God's glory. In the restored Church of Jesus Christ, we teach two meanings of the word "Hell": first, there is Spirit Prison, where the spirits of the wicked await judgment, and second, there is what we refer to as Outer Darkness, which is the eternal result for those who receive none of God's glory. There is both biblical scripture and modern revelation which refer to and clarify these things.

      @00Fisher00 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mike Siler "Hell" can refer to two conditions. One is Spirit Prison, a part of the Spirit World where our spirits go after our bodies die. People in Spirit Prison no longer have access to worldly pleasures--given that they do not have bodies--and have a lot of time to ponder the sins they have committed. It is not pleasant for them. Hell also refers to what we sometimes call "Outer Darkness"; this is a complete, eternal separation from God. Satan and his followers have chosen this, and know only the deepest anguish; some who utterly reject the salvation of Christ will also be cast out after their final judgment.

      Our resurrected bodies will indeed be different from our mortal bodies, but there are also different degrees of glory, or different "kingdoms" or "glories". No mention of Kolob, or the Celestial Sons of God who act as his democratic body to ensure fair and just decision making, nothing about Celestial Marriage and coming to rule your own Kingdom except in the most cryptic of language. All of these things are directly referred to in Scripture. Why do you shy away from Joseph Smith’s teachings in favor of this watered-down appeasement of those who once hunted the Followers of Smith? I'll correct you on one point; the apostle John clearly said not to add to his book of prophecy, and it's clear because when he wrote it the Bible hadn't even been compiled yet into the volume we have today. That didn't happen for several centuries. The last thing he wrote, though was this: "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.
