Simple Spiny Peaks Quilt using 2 1/2 inch STRIPS! 10th in our series to use leftover strips!

- Tenth project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! This pattern was designed for a colorful jelly roll and a white jelly roll but leftover 2 1/2 inch strips in two different colors will work just as easily!
I chose a high contrast between the two colors. The hot pink and black together are bold and the finished quilt is striking! A subtle difference between the two colors would also be beautiful but more relaxed with a softer pattern.
Here is the link to the pattern used in the video, "Spiny Peaks," by Zen Chic for Moda. This pattern is one of the many Project Jelly Roll patterns they have available online for free!

• Projects using 2 1/2" ...
Stay to the end to see the finished quilt and see what the backing looks like! I also show what i did with my extra cut off pieces from the strip sets and the edge of the quilt! Don't throw away those extra bits! Make something out of them!
There is also an update on the 2 1/2 inch scrap bucket situation!
I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I'll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of three...make that seven after the "GREAT SORTING"! This series will last until I'm down to one bucket. Let's be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!
If you don't have leftover strips from other projects to make scrappy quilts, cut up fabrics in your stash into 2 1/2" strips to make the project. No stash of fabric? Head to your local quilt shop and buy a jelly roll or some very pretty fabric to cut into strips! Shop owners are more than happy to help you find the perfect fabric, don't be shy, ask for help if you need it!
Consider joining our Facebook group called "The Quilted Forest Friends". This is the only place you'll have access to exclusive free quilt patterns used in some of our other video projects. It's also lots of fun for members to share their project updates. Here's a link to the group:

Shelley, another winner! This pink-and-black is really striking! I’m really enjoying this whole series. Thanks for sharing all this work with us!
Aloha from Hawaii!!! I love this series!! When your buckets are empty you should compile all of these strip patterns into a book!!!!
What a great idea 💡 ❤
I would buy it immediately.

I don't quilt, I crochet but this was wonderful to watch! Beautiful scrapping!
I do both!
Finished quilt looks absolutely STUPENDOUS!!! 💕💕💕❤️❤️❤️
Love the black and pink. I have a huge amount of blue fabrics, so this will be my project.
Your videos ALWAYS inspire me to do more!! We are kindred spirits on scraps! I always see potential in the bits of fabric. As a longarmer - most of my customers don't want the trim and tell me to toss. I do - right into my bins. i am chairperson for our QOV group. Folks are always donating scraps that I will press and subcut for our projects.😊
Fantastic quilt from leftover fabric! Love the pink & black combination. You are so creative!
Pink is my favorite color and this quilt is fabulous!!! Well done! 🥰💗☕️
I love, love, love this series!!!!! I'm not a pink fan but this is striking and tempting to make. I have a niece who would love it.
Another great quilt of strips. Thank you Shelley

Gorgeous color combo!! Looking at the completed quilt I had a flashback to my old crocheting days in the 70’s 😳 and those orange & black chevron afghans. 😉. This is much faster!! Thanks for sharing!

I love this! What a marvelous idea to use scraps! Thanks 🤩🥳🥳🥳💖
I cannot believe the size of the quilt that you got from your strips! Another great pattern, thank you.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create that. Fabulous quilt. I absolutely love 🧡 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 your design, the colours really pop don’t they. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags 🧡🧡🧡🧡
How fun! I can see a little 10 year old girl or a teen just loving this quilt! I like the way you organised your sewing, and plan to do the same. I'm glad I'm not the only one to make use of all the scraps! I put the tiniest ones in a big white milkglass bowl as I go, and thoroughly enjoy looking at the beautiful colors all together as I fill the bowl! It's a good way to see that I am also making progress. I don't use them as stuffing when the bowl is full, but I give them to a friend of mine does! She stuffs dog beds for the Friends of Pets Thrift Shop.
Loved seeing all the alternate blocks you made with the cut offs. Pretty snazzy!
I’m under the weather I’ve watched this 3 times 😊 This quilt at first wasn’t sure about it but in the end it’s stunning! I realize you can use any 2 colors but gosh I love the pink. And I have next to nothing in my fabric stash in pink. That’s about to change😊😊
So, that's how the rows are joined! I've looked at quilts like this, trying to figure out how. I was over thinking this! Neat quilt!
Man, I love that quilt! WOW! Pink and black. Beautiful!
I know I say this every month but it bares repeating. This is my favorite series!!!
Mine too! I look forward to it each month!
This is gorgeous! Thanks for the video and pattern!
Watching this makes me want to cut all my left over fabric from other projects into to strips to start my own strip bin!
I agree with you! Two and a half inch strips can be the basis of many quilt designs. It gives you a strategy to cope with every kind of fabric design and color. As shown in the video, you can select a color scheme and be on your way to successful scrap style patchwork. Red, yellow and blue; patriotic colors, all pastels: there are lots of ways to unify scraps.
This series is so much fun! ❤ What a great little dolly quilt you could make with your leftovers.
What a great tutorial. Thank you for explaining every step and how this beautiful quilt is made. 😊
This quilt turned out Gorgeous! Very clever of you to use the leftovers also.
The quilt turned out gorgeous! I love the pink and black, stunning. This series is so great, thanks for sharing it with us.
I often wondered how to make a zig zag quilt. It is so easy and not daunting to me anymore. My leftover strips are going to be used in a quilt for me! Thank you for the amazing share. Have a blessed day and see you in the next video!!
Love idea about the stay stitch before cutting. It’s a beautiful quilt.
Amazing tips, wonderful and thank you. God bless you and your loved ones.
Great instructional video. Thank you for this series of 2-1/2" scrappy strips.
Glad I found you. I am so over the patterns that are exacting. Congratulations! Now I am inspired
Love how it turned out! Even the 4 patches and random strips and pinwheels. Looking good.
Love this color combo. It's bright and perky and just amazing!
All black & pinks, so pretty and then putting them together, the amazing pattern is made ❤.
What a striking design. I love the black/pink combo.
Magnificent!!!!! All the quilts in this series are wonderful. Thank you!!!
I’m always watching what you do with the strips because I love hand stitching what someone would not think would work and many want it because it does. I use the shape of epp mostly. You inspired me every time we have a local shop 25 mins away and how she has set it out makes my ocd brain calm and feels so welcoming. Even shelf colour others wouldn’t get it but some stores are so loud as I call it. I end up seeing nothing having a freak out and leaving. Thought to share.
Very striking quilt. I think it's lovely.
Your use of the entire batch of scraps and off cuts is mind blowing! I am always amazed at what you come up with.
Здравствуйте! Вот это да!!! Вот что значит без отходное производство! Браво! Великолепно!❤
