    You misunderstood the pet food. The pet food is not for feeding the kangaroos. The pet food is for your dog and is made of kangaroo meat. The poor old Roo is unfortunately on the supply side and NOT on the consumption side.

    Spiders, if it's not a daddy-longlegs or huntsman, just sqash it. As for flies, they were worse before they introduced the dung beetles.

    That must be just a NSW / Sydney thing re funerals. Because we definitely DO use hazard lights and flags on funeral procession cars. At least what I've experienced.
    In Australia it is illegal to interrupt or pass through a funeral procession.

    The reason for the tax season not being calendar year is because we have our main summer holidays in January. Who wants to do their tax on holidays???

    • @Ausecko1
      @Ausecko1 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but really, we get 4 months to do it (until October 31st), so if the financial year was the calendar year, we'd still have until the end of April to file.

  • @ianwalker5842
    @ianwalker5842 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In Australia, especially in the country/bush, people still often drive in a funeral procession with headlights on, rather than hazard lights. In some larger country towns, any traffic lights on the route may be set to flash amber to allow the funeral right of way. In smaller towns this really isn't necessary, as everyone knows there's a funeral taking place and will always give way to funeral traffic. (In some cases there may be country police on the roads halting non-funeral traffic if necessary.)

    Redbacks are fine to kill -and apparently you have to squish or skewer them - if you spray them they can apparently slow down their metabolism and go into a deep sleep but not die (or something).
    NBN is used so that infrastructure is delivered and maintained through a single organization. This helps (roughly theoretically equivalent) services to be available everywhere even in remote places where private comapnies have little motivation to go. It's an idea that seems to have evolved from Telecomm (later privatised as Telstra) owning the entire telephone infrastructure.
    I think midyear taxes make a bit of sense. December and January (in fact through to almost March) are very busy times of year - Summer Holidays, Christmas, beginning of school year....Middle of the year is a time when (theoretically) people are back at work and doing things.
    House prices are out of control - but a lot of it is because Australia has relatively big cities and people who work in them want to be as close as possible to them, but as much as possible want to still have reasonably sized land. It's compounded by lack of development/investment by Governments and tax advantages to owning a rental (so people with equity who can afford to borrow more than a first homeowner) push prices up. In recent years this has seriously been compounded by people who buy property and then use it as a short-term rental (think Airbnb type) meaning the available supply of housing is reduced forcing demand up.
    When she mentions advertising and driving Sydney to Canberra I'm reminded of a sign there used to be (I think the fun police complained about it) on the Hume (not between Syd and Canberra, but between Gundagai and Canberra) that advertised Maccas at Yass being open 24 hours.....It had the golden arches "'M'Yass - open 24 hours"

      Almost correct, but it’s mainly to do with the Parliament being on holidays. As always, it’s usually got something to do with more convenience for our “betters”. It’s only sheer coincidence that it’s probably more convenient for citizens as well. As you point out, who wants to be doing their taxes at Christmas time?

    in regards to the cost of buying a home in Australia is a lot different than buying in the cities of Sydney or Melbourne as those 2 cities are the cities of choice by foreign investors hence the price goes through the roof knowing that they will pay that type of dollars and making it very hard for the general Aussie family to afford to own. we have just sold our house in the river lands of south Australia for 545k which is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home on a 4 acre block of land we have just bought 2 small blocks of land at 27k each and are currently building a large brand new home of 4 bedroom and 2 bathrooms for 300k as you can see prices of housing in Australia will vary from very low to very high depending on where you choose to live :)

    The reasons the financial year doesn't match the calandar year is due to a couple of factors. Primarily it's inherited from the British agricultural cycle where they had the finances aligned to the growing seasons there. AU and NZ originally kept the same dates and that helped with trade, us being English colonies of course. But now both AU and NZ have moved the dates to more appropriately match our primary business budgeting cycles. One of the disadvantages of the American system is that the financial cycle does not match the primary business cycles.

    G'day mate!!
    I'm enjoying your videos. Fun and entertaining.
    I think you misunderstood the Kangaroo food. We do not have food for the Kangaroos. They kill the Kangaroos and make dog food from it to feed the dogs. Kangaroo food for dogs. There are over 50 million kangaroos in Australia. And we have to cult the Kangaroos, to control there numbers. So they make dog food out of it. Dogs love it.👍
    You can also buy Kangaroo meat for humans to eat.
    The NBN network is owned by the Government. So they can find out everything about us. Sad but true.

    I forgot to mention that if your having a problem with flies your probably camping near farmlands( disturbed areas)with cows or sheep. Cow dung particularly is fly heaven. Your better off camping in natural areas like National parks. Keep well away from farms with hard hooved herbivours like cows, sheep, horses or goats.

    OMG I recall those Dial Up Internet Days & the Americans telling us about Cable Modems with such envy. As we were able to get connected. Tax - June is the End of Financial Year. As an Accountant it is our huge work load time - we are looking at mayhem for 6-8 weeks. Average Salary is about $140,000 in Sydney they say but I think it is closer to $90,000. 2 bedroom apartment at $600 AUD - so you need 2 strong incomes to get ahead. With most careers going onto contract you need to prepare for a NO WORK gap too.
