Here in Australia re-sellers have bought up everything maybe a few years ago. There’s literally nothing in second hand stores or garage sales anymore. eBay prices are way too high and the retro stores here are expensive too. Every now and again resellers here will come across a treasure trove of games but still they want the seller to drop their prices even more, that’s a crappy thing to do but that’s how they feed there own gaming addiction. Again this is why I buy repro games and if people want to say that I’m a fake collector then go for it coz end of the day I’m saving heaps of money.

Dang. I thought it US had it bad. I remember some of the mega drive listings in your videos and they were going for insane prices.
As for those repros, I'm glad I found your channel. There are so many things you can do with them that actually makes collecting games even better. Translations, romhacks, and even customization are made essily accessible all thanks to them

Im out too, im emulating, theres a few things im still collecting for, like imports but sadly those prices are skyrocketing as well cause its about the $ not about the gameplay. As well its a cult mindset with these people literally do some research. Can you imagine someone like phoenix saying "Well im actually helping the hobby...." then insert some made up reason that doesn't even make sense. These people are sick in the head. Im just out of it alot of deception and mental illness in the hobby as well and not putting up with it anymore.

Phoenix resale made an app to sell games on and he spent over 100k to make it, this is why he has been raising his prices to help cover the price of the app.

Have you ever used the Amazon seller app and checked how listing in there works? Like on eBay it tells you how much something goes for new and used. The only difference is that overwll on Amazon stuff is just more expensive and it’s not specific to games either. It’s also a lot harder to become a seller on there for certain categories because they hold much higher standards. Same reason why you’ll see him change which games he is willing to buy because like on any other market place the prices go up and down he has nothing to do with that.

And case after the right price is also a ripoff because they make so much money that they go to conventions buying all the Mario and other games people want most they get to go in one hour before the General Public has a chance at a fair price

Comparing current prices to those at a piece of hardwares release is kind of an apples and oranges argument to make. When the consoles were released, they were new, readily available, and were about 30 years away from the market demands of nostalgic collectors. There are far fewer of the consoles now, hence adding being subject to the law of supply and demand to the equation. I will grant that some resellers are slimeballs in terms of how they acquire their supply, but at day's end, a game, console, book, or whatever you are selling is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. I resell now and then, and I tend to charge only enough to profit while still being under market value because that is how you build good will with your customers, but not everyone shares that approach.

I feel some of what you are saying. However Reselling got me into the hobby. ALso I love the concept of trading, reselling, etc to build my budget for expensive games.. Some collectors were happy when prices spiked because they sold their games they collected but did not play and made alot of money. Also some that are into collecting anything arent hoarders and also like to flip stuff they collect for profit so increase in prices creates competition in the market and builds money on items. Alot of this just depends on how you look at it and how you navigate it. The only games I collect seem to be expensive ones because I like obscure and RPG. Im not wealthy at all but I love the journey of flipping games for profit to eventually get the games I want. In fact in my newest series where Im going for Panzer Dragoon Saga it has increased by 200 dollars since it started and Im not complaining and to me it doesnt make the hobby a problem rather it makes the hobby more valuable and exciting to be a part of. Once again this all depends on how you look at things

Cry about it. All these games can literally be played for free on an emulator these days. If you want to play classic games on console via a licensed physical copy, get out your wallet. These are more than just video games. They are history and collectible items that are out of production. This naturally increases their value.

I always try to find any game below CIB or at best CIB and preferably i wont get the same game twice cause i want to collect the games but im not really into getting profits and i do want to play em.
A few decades from now if i am lucky to be alive by than, il probably might sell as i would be getting old and i wont be able to take em to the grave.
I think pretty much any game i collect now will increase in price and i will make my money back and than some regardless.
currently i am focusing on getting ps3 games as we are at that threshold before they all spike(some already have). ps1 and ps2 i can find an occasional deal but that ship has long since passed (thanks to these guys ^).
ps4 is probably the cheapest you can get right now with the ps5 out and about. as for ps5...yeah this gen sucks.

by the way my new series will be showing me reselling games for the purpose of giving them away to people that think they cant get games.. I wouldnt be able to do it if I wasnt saavy enough in getting deals.. Should the collectors complain when I can find deals and give them away? No everyone wins.. I still think your video was very fair even though I disagree with some points but you showed humility and strived to be honest

While I agree the way they go about acquiring their shit is shady, the way they go about selling things isn’t (unless you’re DK Oldies). Most of them just sell on established marketplaces, but it’s deceptive ways they get their stuff that’s the issue. However that doesn’t drive up cost alone that merely hurts the individual they did shady shit to.
DK oldies doesn’t represent market price and uses shady practices like fake sales prices and paying for advertisement to trick people before they’ve had a chance to find cheaper prices.
I feel like your point would’ve come across better if you separated them better. Criticizing the TH-camrs for acquiring their stuff in really shady ways makes total sense but the prices they sell their stuff at doesn’t. They don’t sell like DK Oldies and half of the time they’re comparable to the platform they’re on.
The TH-camrs also don’t contribute to rising prices as let’s be honest the collectors buying this stuff up are telling them with cold hard cash they’ll pay. I collect games too, I refuse to pay some of these stupid prices but as long as people on the internet are willing to pay $250 for a loose copy of Pokemon emerald you can’t be mad at the dude selling it for $250, he’s just tryna to make his money and get by.

This is a rerun of the same video you already did in order to gain views and make money. Doesn’t that mean you are making money out of overpriced game sellers now too? When Retrogames started back in 1995 (were you born then 😆) I predicted that games collecting would become the same as toy collecting, and I was right. You lay into games sellers, but what about vintage toy sellers, pushing Star Wars toys up to crazy sums, or comic dealers, or baseball card sellers. It’s quite simple, as things get older, they get harder to find. As things get rarer, values rise, doesn’t matter what it is, from c64 games to David Bowie LPs, it’s just how things have always been. Despite me disagreeing with you, I still wish you’d shown our site on your video, not just as we were the first vintage game seller, but cos we’ve got some super rare stuff at crazy prices that would surely blow your mind 😂😂😂

You don’t want to be a drama channel yet this seems to be the second call out video. I do agree as and eBay and Amazon seller that I’ve seen some crazy prices. I do thrifting, wholesale, Retail and Online arbitrage. When I sell something it is at market value. Many times I have undercut my competitors because they had it too high and guess what? I got the sale because it’s a price people are willing to pay and it still makes my business grow and I take care of my family. It’s the same for brick and mortar. You buy low and sell for market. It’s crazy how some stuff sells for 100’s or thousands yes.
