      @google Lavon Affair
      Not rly. I had a few people showing me how life works, but no one was exactly what I was ultimately striving to be. You can find "father figures" everywhere; books, TV, movies, family. However, Henry's POV is something I find inspiring because it makes me want to be a better person and get off my lazy ass. Lots of people have father figures that turn them into racists, xenophobes & crappy individuals. One can choose to be a better man and not succumb to a toxic environment. Hence, Henry.

      he is confident, but that comes from a self confidence issue.
      if you're confident in yourself, you don't get offended when someone, ANYONE says any little thing about you, like a trigger word. you are instead at peace within yourself.
      on the other hand, his emphasis on fitness, masculinity, his directness, is something missing from today's society.

    If Henry is educated about certain things, it doesn't make him a "sellout" or a "hypocrite". I love underground music because it's a great alternative from the dumbed down commercial stuff we are fed everyday. It doesn't mean I hate mainstream, some of that is catchy and fun. But there has to be a balance.

    • @tommyt1971

      He always describes himself as “insatiably curious” & it’s benefitted him greatly. The dude’s self-educated & one of the smartest and most intelligent people alive. It’s been a personal inspiration - he travels extensively & talks about how he talks to the local people & learns a lot from them. I try to do the same when I travel & it’s been a learning experience every time.

    LOVE the Albert Ayler reference. Rollins Band has helped me through so much heartbreak and existential crisis. Divorce, break ups, unrequited love, job loss, disorientation. So much energy, compassion and motivation in their music and lyrics. I found my way in the end and a bit of love and happiness, too. I am so glad I found these inspiring souls to hold on to in times of despair. I wonder if Henry Rollins will find some romance at some point of his life. Would be a strange turn, but life sure IS strange.

      I'm pretty sure he went down that path with his responses because Jay decided to immediately acknowledge the fact that the average conservative joes first impression of him based on his physical appearance would likely be that he is some kind of thoughtless neanderthal who only seeks to look intimidating and is otherwise ignorant and uninteresting. He probably was annoyed by that idea on some level and wanted to clear up any misconceptions right off the bat by referencing something obscure/intellectual.

    Henry thinks honestly, inwardly, as some do... but he has the balls to *be* honest, outwardly, which very few do.
    I regard this as a very good quality in people
    He is also completely approachable, and has always made himself available to his fans.
    I've had the pleasure to say hi to him a couple times, as many others have, after shows. And it always shows how much he enjoys meeting people.

      He’s mellowed out here in comparison to 10 years earlier. I love Henry, he’s one of the people I look up to the most. However, I would probably not want to be close to him if he had a bad day during the Black Flag days.
      Nowadays though he seems like the most genuine and sweetest guy ever, treating everyone with respect but at the same time always standing his ground. A truly inspiring man.

    Jay had cool guests in his early years of the Tonight Show, especially music performers:Neil Young, Mary's Danish,The Bird and the Bee,etc. The best was when he had both Motorhead and the Ramones on in the same week!

    Dear god I remember what was so great about the 90's! I am only maybe half as old as Rollins' so I can't remember much before the 90s and I'm sure he thought the same way about the 90's but I bet he misses the 90's now! I know I do. The world needs more people like you, Henry Rollins! I miss REAL MEN BEING MEN! Not some guy dressing like a girl saying that masculinity is wrong! WTF is wrong with the world!?!

    He's no joke legit! He'd skateboard on South Beach with locals, friends & was so approachable at the "Cameo". He's ALWAYS BEEN him. Never needed or hyped his "brand". His "Brand" stalked him & begged to cling on to him & his energy.

    That is great what he answers Jay @5:55 about selling out. Made me think about another great band I like and met at my favorite semi secret abandon $$$$ house in the hills skateboard pool local to me. They have lyrics "The public gets what they deserve not what they demand. Unless we all decide to be a business not a band." (Agent Orange) from Orange County CA.
