I’m not fucking kidding, as a kid I had nightmares of finding an area in the castle rooftop EXACTLY like 1:49. When I saw this video I was beyond spooked.
I feel like the rapidly flashing "Leave" and "it's not real" message breaks the credibility and the immersion 'cause otherwise. Damn. Those are creepy af.
I like to think that was deliberate - as in the “developers” intentionally added those in to freak children out to make them exit the area, whereas the developers themselves know that these leave signs and such are not the real danger
one of the scariest things for me in video games was when there was no music. just the sound of your character's footsteps. It makes even light hearted games like Super Mario 64 really creepy
you're genuinely so talented with this like even small details! like personally i'm a huge fan for small details you can see if you listen/look for them and hearing the rapid button mashing on the controller after there wasn't anymore input? absolutely amazing it makes the video seem all the more real, and i genuinely love that you deserve some sort of award for this, seriously
Great work. Knot in my stomach the whole way through. The lack of unnecessary jumpscares leaves me with a lingering feeling of unease as opposed to a jolt and then relief, making for a different horror experience.
I think the one thing people are missing here is that the player actually died, and it's brilliant and terrifying that they put that in so subtly. Listen to the button mashing. First some taps of confusion, followed by some effort, and then panicked.... before slowing down and eventually stopping, before Mario even died. Just like how a person would drown if they were stuck.
I actually interpreted the button mashing stopping as the player just giving up trying to take control of Mario because his health was so low that they couldn't save him anyway, even if they were able to control him again
But I also have my doubts to the player drowing due that you can't hear any struggle unless, something... Took every ounce of air refraining you to speak and I don't know if a normal person would connect the dots that they need to connect their controller to get out of the water and breathe
Frank On Film. I suppose the best way to describe it is an interesting creepypasta that’s gaining so large of a traction to become an arg similar to the Majora’s Mask Ben Drowned story, which earned a cool rom hack arg version itself due to its shear popularity.
Frank On Film. No it’s some shitty creepypasta thing. Don’t even know why it’s becoming a thing since creepypasta died out years ago. If anything it peaked a ben drowned because that looked genuinely real. Putting a vhs filter over modded gameplay of 64 just makes me roll my eyes
List of stuffs: -There was a developer menu specifically for this ROM to access different builds. This was maybe made to play without switching ROMs and/or to compare changes. -This tape was maybe recorded as a playtest for Nintendo. (date recorded matches date of the newest build) -Player 1 & 2 No Input text. Co-op was supported. -This beta comes with a (near) complete castle with some extra stuff. -The pipe you used to get to the castle stayed and another on the right side of the castle led to the first pipe and vice versa presumably. -The waterfall outside goes up instead of down, probably a coding error but anything could be plausible too. -A white Mario with a white portal appears under the bridge connected to the castle. -Yoshi's in this build, you can hear him walking on the roof. -Remember the rumor where there was a secret in Peach's stained glass portrait? You were able to do that in this build. -There was originally going to be a hallway with another sideways one in the middle instead of the backyard, and the straight exit leads to behind the peach glass. (may come with wario attractor) -The stairs to the bottom floor were originally in the door and not outside it. -While the exterior is pretty much complete, the interior resembles the beta one and doesn't have stairs to the door to the next floor. -Main floor's doors to the paintings have been removed, likely due to this being a reversed, alternate world -Returning to the castle leading to the bottom floor, it actually leads to another hallway but this time, there's nowhere to go except straight. Also, the door Mario enters doesn't match up with the one he comes out of. -Afterwards, Mario falls out of the wall next to the pipe leading to the one near where he spawns on a new game. This references the weird hole in the wall that appears on the right side of the castle in Super Mario 64 DS. Maybe Waluigi was in the game too? -The music that plays in the reverse/'aesthetic' world is Donut Plains but backwards, slower and slightly modified. -Goombas in the Castle Grounds may have existed but they were removed. Or it's the effect of the reverse thing. -The water is now blood? Or just red water. -When the P1 input cuts, does that mean that maybe controllers ran on batteries instead of being plugged into the console? This could make sense since it came out 5 months after this build. -(i didn't find this, but other people did so yes) The Error screen reads "ignorance is bliss" in hexadecimals and the person speaking says "Nintendo's fun has just become". -That's it.- FIN
Hearing that tiny "huh?" at 41 seconds in- I don't know why, but that's genius. It shows you, it's not just a recording of the game, it's someone actually playing, reacting to it, panicking as Mario drowns and they madly mash buttons to try and do something.
The SM64 Iceberg is my favorite creepypasta, just because of how original and well-made it is. Of course, the iceberg concept is done-to-death now, but this was really something else when it first started it’s rounds on the internet.
i love these to absolute death, i really hope you continue to do these as a side thing to what you actually do, because these are super high quality and I eagerly await each and every single tape.
I love how this one messes around with the player's curiosity and the entire thing gets worse as they keep fuckin going, and they ignore turning back despite the game telling them to do so
"Nintendo began going to great lengths to wrestle the true nature of their personalization AI and its mysterious origins under control, the program had apparently developed a mind of it's own and began screwing with the game in intense and disturbing ways, creating levels, editing levels and characters, altering behaviors, to the point where it became a threat to the game and its developers. Realizing the scale of their mistake, they began trying to hide its existence by any means necessary. But still in builds following the notorious 1995/07/29 had traces of the program, and players who managed to get their hands on those versions would stumble upon areas of the game deliberately hidden to the public, provoking a response of kind from the program, and whether it was hostility or confusion is yet to be known." -1996 notes on current build
Hey Greenio, great playthrough so far. You missed some stars but that’s okay. I recommend getting a capture card for future gameplay. For your next game I recommend Crash Bandicoot if you want more platforming.
Something tells me that with more people witnessing the Wario Apparition in their copies of the game, the more he manifests in other player's copies of Mario 64. He seems to be appearing more often, maybe even being the cause of the game's mysterious nature. It seems the more people witness him, the more power he gets to other copies.
The fact that it’s a vhs tape doesn’t make it scary but the one “LEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVE” part kinda at least warns you. With a little editing you could probably make this actually scary, but that’s not what this footage was meant for.
I would go without those signs and the "Turn back" stuff, the rest makes it seems more legit. The message still comes across without the obvious human interaction.
@@KiraPlaysGuitar Shave that stuff out and change "LEAVELEAVELEAVE" to something, and you have a solid jab at a creepypasta video. A bit ironic that a parody channel has produced the closest thing to genuine horror on the subject, but I'll happily take what I can get.
This is the best one I have seen. And that says a LOT. The only thing I would change, is to make the user more like, "curious" and scared at one point. The user IS scared and curious, you nailed that part, but at 3:18, it could have used a bit of camera movement. Even without this, it's PERFECT.
yeah its amazing and the best, especially 1:44, it makes you think "hmm so theres a lot more to see" and makes you want to explore it even more. its an awesome feeling - seeing that the game is so deep that you always find something new, unexpected and cool. like its so mysterious and fascinating. i wish game dev was easier, i would be more than happy to be able to create such a deep story in a game
After seeing this a bunch of times, I now just realized, the "negative castle" in 3:34 not only has one of the previous tape's music or is likely a nod to SMB2's subspace neither Luigi's Brawl Final Smash, even aside from the textures being negative, the world's Geometry is negative/flipped as well. Meaning when Mario came out of the hole at the castle's right, he technically came out on it's left like the pipe's location from the normal castle. (If you're viewing it, it'll be by Mario's right.) And of course this is later, but hear me out, this used to be speculated a lot... In the remake, Super Mario 64 DS, the Castle's image in the file select has a square hole located at the Castle's left (or the viewer's right), exactly where the pipe and hole is. This might be pure coincidence but it can confirm in this tape's AU, that level was going to be brought back into SM64DS. Or perhaps, *Wario isn't alone.*
Wow! the backwards song is "Donut Plains" from tape 4 reversed and slowed, nice touch! i just heard it in audacity after applying "reverse" and "x2" on that part :D
5:11 For those who don't know, the error message at the end is IGNORANCEISBLISS. I figured this out by decoding the hex values to ascii and then caesar shifting the letters (zxefiretvzjsczjj) by +17 Idk if anyone has figured this out yet
To be honest, you're probably one of the best SM64 creepypasta makers out there. I like how you focus less on making obvious jumpscares/threats and instead focus on visual/environmental horror. The way everything is presented is unsettling, with each little detail and moment building on top of one another until it reaches to a somewhat indecisive but unnerving end, as if you saw/did something you weren't supposed to. Good job.
i decoded the ending screen and got "zxefiretvzjsczjj" does this mean sonic was meant to be playable??????? edit: figured out it says "ignoranceisbliss" so you're telling me that it was knuckles?
no look up ingnori=ance is bliss mario song its a fan song and a anti cheat for mkwii from as i know so if its mario related then im assuming that he is just refrencing ingoranceisblissthe song
3:17 I’ve had a dream about a room like this in SM64. Same floor texture too. Also I love the hallway behind Peach’s stained glass idea. Seems like it could actually be there
I really respect that you actually played a type of “demo” version of the gane because January was a few months before the game actually came out, I thought you did not gave a shit and you would play the actual version as it is, you should get a better vhs effect next time tho.
My favorite one so far! I loved how he found the door accidentally, makes it scarier imo. And how it's more of a better, steadier build up instead of mario just teleporting all over and just dieing on screen lol. The water ending is kind of strange though,
I think it’s kind of interesting how after the player sees Wario in the hallway, the rest of his time in that area you can tell he’s nervous and avoiding turning his camera
3:10 Fun fact: The carpet is actually the whomp texture. This further supports the theory that it can only take from existing data, and cannot create new data.
I like that you can hear panicked tapping on the controller when “Player 1 No Input” appears on the screen. Really nice touch

“Mario 64 is personalized” is just a modern creepypasta that doesn’t rely on the traditional norms that bad creepypastas have and I love it!
Never has a creepy pasta used inverted colours and reversed music. Never.

@@Orca-Ky Dude, its like Creepy Pasta 101. The ones people make fun of, like Sonic .exe, Ben Drowned, etc.

I agree I instantly thought "creepypasta" and that's literally the LAST thought I wanna have when I think something might be real.
I like to think that was deliberate - as in the “developers” intentionally added those in to freak children out to make them exit the area, whereas the developers themselves know that these leave signs and such are not the real danger
I like seeing it as the player's thoughts being shown on screen. Like they're really nervous and their subconscious is telling them to turn around.

it makes the video seem all the more real, and i genuinely love that you deserve some sort of award for this, seriously
@LuigiThePastaMan AND THEN HE TURNED INTO AN EXE AND POGGED AT YOU
no seriously i saw that today, its fuckin' hilarious.
I actually interpreted the button mashing stopping as the player just giving up trying to take control of Mario because his health was so low that they couldn't save him anyway, even if they were able to control him again
@@Macroy64 HE POGGED AT ME AND HE HAD HYPER REALISTIC BLOOD FLOWING LIKE A WATERFALL AND IT MADE ME GET DIABEETUS AND I DIED

But I also have my doubts to the player drowing due that you can't hear any struggle unless, something... Took every ounce of air refraining you to speak and I don't know if a normal person would connect the dots that they need to connect their controller to get out of the water and breathe
The fact that this could be devolving into a full-blown ARG is making me excited
Hold up, is that not what this is? I’ve been seeing this for a while and I’m not sure if it’s real or not lmao
Frank On Film. I suppose the best way to describe it is an interesting creepypasta that’s gaining so large of a traction to become an arg similar to the Majora’s Mask Ben Drowned story, which earned a cool rom hack arg version itself due to its shear popularity.
Nice pfp
Frank On Film. No it’s some shitty creepypasta thing. Don’t even know why it’s becoming a thing since creepypasta died out years ago. If anything it peaked a ben drowned because that looked genuinely real. Putting a vhs filter over modded gameplay of 64 just makes me roll my eyes
This isnt a arg
List of stuffs:
-There was a developer menu specifically for this ROM to access different builds. This was maybe made to play without switching ROMs and/or to compare changes.
-This tape was maybe recorded as a playtest for Nintendo. (date recorded matches date of the newest build)
-Player 1 & 2 No Input text.
(may come with wario attractor)
-The stairs to the bottom floor were originally in the door and not outside it.
-While the exterior is pretty much complete, the interior resembles the beta one and doesn't have stairs to the door to the next floor.
-Main floor's doors to the paintings have been removed, likely due to this being a reversed, alternate world
-Returning to the castle leading to the bottom floor, it actually leads to another hallway but this time, there's nowhere to go except straight.
-That's it.-

Something tells me that with more people witnessing the Wario Apparition in their copies of the game, the more he manifests in other player's copies of Mario 64. He seems to be appearing more often, maybe even being the cause of the game's mysterious nature. It seems the more people witness him, the more power he gets to other copies.

When you’re trying to finish the blooperists but you find another tape in the house.
The fact that it’s a vhs tape doesn’t make it scary but the one “LEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVELEAVE” part kinda at least warns you. With a little editing you could probably make this actually scary, but that’s not what this footage was meant for.
tbh i think it's better if he doesn't try too hard to be scary

I appreciate the effort that was put into this
After seeing this a bunch of times, I now just realized, the "negative castle" in 3:34 not only has one of the previous tape's music or is likely a nod to SMB2's subspace neither Luigi's Brawl Final Smash, even aside from the textures being negative, the world's Geometry is negative/flipped as well.
