It’s more creepy if you’ve seen other videos in the vein of this conspiracy theory. The _sheer lack of events_ compared to other videos in a similar vein to this, where there tends to always be something watching you down hallways or behind doors, makes it creepy. By this point, we’ve been made to _expect_ scary things to happen.
@@deleetiusproductions3497 yeah. All the ones ive watched have had a creepy vibe that is then ruined by a "random game over", red text on a black screen saying that there was no full release or something about murder, a bad after effect that kills your eyes or some crap jumpscare.
Ugh, i hate when people say stuff like this. This is NOT scary, the feeling that you can get startled at any moment is what produces paranoia and fear, stop saying "horror movies shouldn't have jumpscares, they're cheap" they're LITERALLY the only thing that makes anything scary, if you're promised that there are no jumpscares from the beginning, then there's no tension. That's why, even though i'm a BIG coward, i see these SM64 beta creepypasta videos as just funny memes and laugh at them, but i'm genuinely afraid of horror games like Five Nights at Freddy's, even if they're "Cheap TH-camr bait" That's like saying "Punchlines are a cheap way of making people laugh, jokes shouldn't have them, you can still be funny without them"
Man! I was anxiously waiting for Luigi to jump or attack just to hear his voice and I didn't get that. Maybe he sounds like a high-pitched Mario like in Smash Bros and Melee.
The scenery and the music seems to be crafted in the perfectly creepy way, mixing familiar elements (same textures and stuff, similar layouts, similar soundfont for each tune, etc.) but altering them heavily in such a way that seriously messes with your brain. I especially love how the fourth floor is a really vague remix of the file select theme. It really messed me up because I knew I recognised it from somewhere and it took me several relistens to finally find out. Great job, can't wait to play the finished hack!
I love these videos because the castle seems like a version that you would dream about, way more expansive than usual with seemingly endless paths, really adds to the somewhat eerie feel
Let's be real, the author much likely didn't build anything except what Mario walked in. I'd be willing to wait for that, though. I really want to play this thing.
@@Eichro yeah I'm pretty sure everything you don't see in these videos don't actually exist yet. Maybe eventually he'll complete the entire rooms and release a rom.
Honestly, the music kinda takes me out of it. It gives it a very "rom hack-y" feel using music from Mario RPG of all things, and not even a remix or anything, just a port of the same music with some compression and a new sound font.
Aura Fox I had the same thought tbh, but it’s weird, maybe the soundtrack was supposed to be experimental in the beta? It has a very loud sound to it, I’d say the last track of the video was the most authentic tbh.
I love how you expanded apon the beta! If Luigi was in the game, I would've LOVED for this! Not to mention, jumping into a painting to become Luigi is pretty clever! Good job man!
Damn. I didnt want the video to end!! This is like a trippy fever dream that you dont want to wake from but more or less explore...if you get what i mean? 😂
Anyone else feels not unsettled but a sense of nostalgia? Like a dream nostalgia? There is something so soothing about this video. I sometimes just play it again at night and is such a mood.
I just love your attention into details cuz strarting in the snes era luigi's overralls were a similar shade of violet just like in this video, keep on the excellet work man i love your videos Edit:alright fellas i have 64 likes lets just leave it that
The downside to that suggestion, though, is that Luigi's coloration in Mario World was likely due to palette limitations. He's colored with matching Overalls to Mario in the end screen of SMW and the title Screen of All-Stars so it's likely that was always the intended design. For the N64, they probably wouldn't actively try to copy the coloration of his in-game sprites unless the texture artist was using the sprite as a reference. More likely, though, it'd be much easier to just reuse Mario's overall colors. This is also supported by the fact that all of Luigi's appearances on the N64 feature blue overalls. Still, though, it's a cool touch.
You would have fooled anyone with this footage back in the late 90's/early 00's, I love how authentic they feel. It's like you've stumbled across a sprawling hidden area in the castle or it's like an unfinished/beta castle from late 95 or early 96.
For the record, I don't mean that in a "thanks for posting the rom" sort of way, though that is nice. What I mean is this: I've been having dreams like this for as long as I can remember. And they weren't scary, they were wistful if anything. And not necessarily of Mario 64 (though I did end up having a dream quite similar to the whole liminal mario thing in 2017 - but there's been many more Metroid dreams in the same vein). Thank *you,* for capturing that essence you see in dream games, and for giving people the ability to feel the way those made me felt. Before a few years ago, it was almost impossible.
For some reason I felt really uncomfortable troughout the whole video even though nothing happened outside of findindg Luigi and I'm kinda glad this type of videos can make feel that way without showing something scary great job 👍🏻
If you played a lot of SM64 like we all did then that feeling makes sense, it's something familiar to us but at the same time everything is not where it should be.
I love these videos so much. When I first played SM64 when I was young, everything seemed so mysterious. Now, playing it as an adult I have more knowledge about the game, taking away the mysterious feeling it originally had. These videos perfectly capture what I felt when I first played the game. I would love to play a rom hack similar to the world you've made in your videos.
Will you release this "personalized copy" at some point? This actually looks sick. Bowser's castle extension, the rooftop fountain thing, luigi, bowsers room from oney plays. This is way better than the stupid "wario show you fun" creepypasta stuff.
Both depictions have their positives. I like these type of videos but also the spooky videos too like the ones Greenio and Jefftastic create. Some things have their charms for different people like me who are a big haunted video game stories like Ben Drowned and the SM64 more recently because some of them do take effort to create and even if repetitive some of them are just cool to watch and sometimes can be actually scary. In the end it all depends on your interests.
You know, all this "Mario 64 Iceberg" stuff brought back memories of one of my Mario 64 dreams. I was in the endless staircase, trying to skip it through BLJ, when I clipped through the wall and into a secret area of the castle. A single room with a Yoshi painting, similar to the Luigi one here and the DS ones. I remember immediately unlocking Yoshi from it, similar to how the Luigi painting here turns you into him.
Mario 64 is the ultimate dream game. I feel like one day I'm going to wake up in this strange realm and things are going to be similar, but theres always something slightly off from my memory. This is why I find these videos so fascinating.
These videos feel like I'm not suppose to watch them and not in the creepy curse way. It doesn't feel like 'ooo demons are going to come and get me cause I watched this video' but this is just some knowledge and insight I was never suppose to have. Unnerving in a very good way.
When I was a kid I remember dreaming of a world similar to the boo haunted house but much much bigger and deeper in a sense. It was pretty surreal and creepy and to this day I feel weird everytime I think of this because I still can't believe it doesn't actually exist. Any of you had a similar experience?
I've had dreams of secret rooms and levels in my favorite childhood games. Like for example I had a dream of an all white empty room in Luigi's Mansion. This kinda fits within the same category, it feels like a dream.
Ngl, I don’t just watch these videos for the horror anymore. I watch these because seeing people make different structures of this game is great. Feels like people are taking me to different places all the time. Oh how I wish Nintendo would make an atmosphere as strong as this again because, super Mario 64 and the DS version have such a stellar one. Also, Bowser seems so much more evil in this one, lol. The fact that he didn’t feed his troops for weeks just because of a construction failure.
That melancholic version of the castle theme sounds awesome, it reminds me of the Rare games that would usually have the level themes change to a more melancholic or gloomy tone in certain areas
THE PLOT THY THICKENS FOR MORE THEORIES: Mario has "defeated" Bowser. Mario takes himself out of the room and library before Bowser wakes up. Mario takes a turn to find out A BUNCH OF ROOMS + one finale room. probably each were koopa's room and other rooms that we don't know about yet. The last door I will explain later. Mario soon enough enters the green carpeted door. he was greeted with a glass wall which The sign says its "mirror technology". But, if your eyes are keen enough, you might see a hole in the left hand side wall. Skillful enough, you can get up and hit the invisible ability box, grab the invisible cap, and go through the glass wall. Opening the next door will greet you with Luigi's painting. Go in it and you will return to the start as Luigi. Bowser Shames Mario for bringing such a "clone" to the castle to help. Luigi now goes to check a look what Mario saw before. a travel through the yet to be known rooms (or they are just not accessible). Luigi decides to open the final door. He is greeted with some... lets say promising yet unsettling music. Luigi looks inside to see there is a pool. a door was there so I think it is mean't to be drained. Luigi takes a look at the sign that say the koopas made an "error" and King koopa didn't let them eat for WEEKS. and it also said not to enter the water. My best guess is that there is a hidden eel or shark in there. Otherwise, idk. Luigi while taking a turn also sees a doorway. another reason for the water to be drained. Luigi decides to head upwards to avoid getting lost. Apparently, THERE ARE MORE FRICKING DOORS. Man, this is gonna be an loong adventure. Luigi decides to take front. relaxing 80s genre music plays while Luigi enters the absurdly long hallway. Luigi sees that there are 2 back ways like Peach's castle. Im pretty sure he will check that next vid. luigi observes each hallway, having a door for a yet to be known reason. Luigi decides to check them later and enter the front door.
Even now, 20 years after I first played this game, I'll occasionally have a dream about it, and every one of those dreams is some surreal grainy nonsense like this
They straight up took the worlds in this video to B3313, with the same soundtracks even, although different arrangements. The mirror room is "Walled Gardens" in B3313 for example
Every time i saw a new door ir corridor I feel like a little child with the curiosity of explore everything in this brand new world i discovered (Even though i'm just a expectator)
well luigi was just recently found in the files therefore solving the L is real 2401 mystery. yeah it was also found 24 years and 1 month after m64 (24 years 01 month)
I'm kinda scared watching this after seeing the thumbnail, especially after you made the basement similar to a fever dream of mine I had when I was very young.
This video is freaking awesome! I had this one dream of this Super mario 64 verison and there was this hidden room that I can't remember what it looked like, but it had a slide star doors.
I love the feel of these. Like those hoaxes when you were a kid and talked to your friends in the playground about the secret "room" or "floor" in the castle (that never actually existed, lol). The internet was still a pretty foreign concept so kids would eat that stuff up and believe it at the time. One of my fave childhood memories regarding those was the playground rumor of Waluigi being unlockable in SM64DS in a secret room in the top part of the castle. I was so gullible... it was so fun and mysterious though. I love the thought of showing this to someone back in the 90s and how easily they'd believe that this footage was real, because there's no real evidence on the internet to prove otherwise. Just the idea of there being uncovered secrets buried within these games... though now sadly we have the ability to datamine and etc., and find everything hiding within the game. A lot of the magic is lost.
What I like about this creepypasta is that it supports what you said. This could be real in someone's personalized copy. They could go telling everyone that Luigi is in the game but in their copies, he doesn't exist. In the end, it allows myths to exist without dataminimg to disprove it.
3:14 This basement maze reminds me of a dream that was very similar to this, except it was a level. The walls and floor had a light blue tint and there was a purple-white fog.
I love how these aren't creepypasta videos but they still feel eerie and unsettling in a way
yea
It’s because all they’re doing is have Mario walk slowly and stand and barely jump so he makes little to no noise

"Impossible. Perhaps the archives are incomplete. "
But Mario always faces you when having the vanish cap.
That's why, even though i'm a BIG coward, i see these SM64 beta creepypasta videos as just funny memes and laugh at them, but i'm genuinely afraid of horror games like Five Nights at Freddy's, even if they're "Cheap TH-camr bait"

Edit:alright fellas i have 64 likes lets just leave it that
The downside to that suggestion, though, is that Luigi's coloration in Mario World was likely due to palette limitations.
