  • What’s going on TH-cam!!! I plan on doing many mods to my 2010 GMC Sierra SLT 5.3 and hope you guys follow to see the progress!!! Check out how to Disable the AFM for free!!! This will save me some money for now haha. I still plan on purchasing a tuner but for now this shall do!!! Let me know your thoughts and if I’m doing this right!!! Also, another reason for the horrendous MPG you saw in the video is because I’m usually working out the truck and always have it running to keep the AC on...it has been a hot summer so far in New England!
HOW TO DISABLE AFM: Enter your truck to manual mode, select a gear up until 5th gear or shift as you drive. The truck will never leave V8 Mode. I haven’t tested yet but at 6th gear the truck will activate AFM.

You don't have to do anything while driving. Simply set to M5 at the beginning and forget about it. The trans works completely normal but as 5 speed instead of six. You do have to choose M5 at the beginning of each trip because putting it in park resets every time.

Had that junk in my 2012 avalanche. Crap bent a lifting rod. Took it for warranty. Chevy fixed it and the mechanic told me he could deactivate the afm. No brained for me. Never had another problem. Whose fumbass idea was it to invent a thinking engine that shuts down two cylinders at sixty mph and then expect everything two stay timed? After thirty five years of buying chevys, I now drive Nissan trucks. Besides, chevys have become to expensive.

Most Chevy dealerships refuse to deactivate the AFM or tell customers that it can't be done. If you have any warranty left, GM will void your warranty if AFM is deactivated by reprogramming. The RANGE TECHNOLOGIES is perfect, because you just unplug it to return your truck's operation to factory settings if you take it in for warranty or if you need to have a "drive clean" test performed.

Some people got lucky. The big facts are this - the AFM system is a bad design and most owners end up with oil consumption, stuck lifters and ruined camshaft. If it was always reliable there wouldn't be any efforts at getting a class action lawsuit. Some of the well known engine reman companies delete the system as part of their remanufacturing process - with good reason!

Or buy a HP Tuner and just click disable and disable the slip for dod in the transmission settings. While you’re at it, you can disable the virtual flex fuel that never reads right and fails to report data accurately or quickly. The infamous fuel content runaway ethanol reading causing the vehicle to run so rich you can barely start it and it drives like shit. You reset your fuel composition and it runs great for a little bit and then goes out of control in a positive feed back loop. Disable it and gone for ever. Then if the infamous lifter failure ever hits as the lifters crap design makes them a big failure point even with DOD disabled. You can do the physical delete. Also, the hp tuner route gives you freedom to adjust and tweak whatever and you can gather date and use the system like a scan tool. Check and monitor any thing you want. Disable certain codes from tripping if you want or if you have modified a system and don’t want sensors reporting a failed component that you removed.

Not in V8 mode when your truck is in park or neutral, that's why you need a disable or tuner and delete. One of the 8 little screens or one of the several oil screens gets a touch plugged and wham one of your lifters unlocks and jams down. It's just a bad system, especially for city driven trucks that don't get their oil changes religiously and well before the "oil life" meter runs down, worse for the people that just take their vehicle to an oil change place because those yahoos aren't paying any attention to whether or not their's any particulates coming out of your drained oil.

Did research , got QCR AFM eliminator, big difference , more power With faster crisper shifts and no change in mpg at all. I have heard if you have valve rattle there is serious problem and you are near to engin3 or tranny damage.

I have a lifted 2014 Silverado, the additional weight from the tires, rims and 7" lift kit has definitely sucked up some of my power. If you push your trailer button to stop over drive you have to push again and hold for 5 secs which deletes the automatic grade braking feature and of course you can also drive in Manual mode and select the highest gear you want. Way cheaper for me to do this instead of changing rear diff gearing.

I think it works in "trailer mode" also. While driving in "D" under a very slight acceleration I can feel a high frequency vibration, which I believe is the AFM being active. I tried the manual mode and the vibration goes away. But when I use the trailering mode not only do I not feel the vibration but the acceleration is a lot better. Uses more gas, yes. But sometimes I like the performance better.

If you want good V8 power all the time and none of this BS then just buy a GM truck that had the 4.8 liter and forget the 5.3. GM made them from 1999 to 2013 and none of them engines ever had the AFM! The latest generation 4.8 (2010-2013) had 302 hp, the latest 5.3 has 355 hp. So if you REALLY want that extra 53 hp just do cold air intake, headers/exhaust, mild cam, tuner, and you should be pretty close! You can mod a 4.8 cheaper than deleting AFM from a 5.3!
