    When WWF Monday Night Raw went to the Toronto Skydome on February 3rd 1997 the company recorded a match featuring Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid. The match was intended for fans in the arena and it wasn't going to get televised. Years later, WWE released "Attitude Era: Unreleased" on DVD and for the first time ever the match was made available for fans to view.
    What's interesting about Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels vs Sycho Sid in Toronto is the fact that this is the very first Triple Threat WWF match that was professionally recorded. Also, fans were eager to see Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels once again in 1997 with their rivalry heating up again ever since Bret's return in late 1996.
    This video looks at the WWE Unreleased series, Raw in the Toronto Skydome, and an in-depth look at the dark match itself.

    Dude, I just wanted to pop in and thank you for all the work you do. You and your channel have “broken” me in the way that no other channels of this nature even come close to yours. The sort of “wrestling documentary” genre has sprouted up more and more, but nobody comes close to the quality of Wrestling Bios. Always great research. Always just enough unbiased opinion, with a dash of your personal feelings. Always telling a wonderful story from start to finish. I look forward to every upload of yours. I think you’ve set a standard with your channel. I love seeing it continue to grow and get that recognition.

  • @jldraw
    @jldraw ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Sid spoke about this match several years back in a shoot expressing his distain for Bret Hart. Essentially Sid claimed Hart was not a team player and to get through these matches he and HBK had to design a plan to work around Bret rather than with him. I call BS on that because I don’t see Hart as the type to sabotage a match, but there you have it.

    A lot of these matches are post RAW matches. For example, I went to the 4/13/98 RAW. This was the RAW where Stone Cold was supposed to take on Vince but Dude Love comes out and interrupts then attacks Austin as the show goes off the air. After the actual show an 8 man tag match with Stone Cold, Undertaker, and LOD 2000 vs Kane, HHH, and the NAO. Match lasted about 3 minutes with Stone Cold getting the pin on Road Dogg.

    Triple threat or fatal four matches were not common in WWF so this would have been very exciting at the time.

    I was there! This event was a big deal locally at the time and the undercard was taped for the first 2 hour Raw. The setup was the Toronto Raptors layout as they were playing at the Skydome at the time. WWF was banned from the Maple Leaf Gardens as they had a falling out with the Tunneys, and were holding bigger supercard/house shows at the Skydome and Exhibition Stadium until the Air Canada Centre (now Scotiabank arena) opened.

      A few other little notes:
      Petro stations in Ontario were giving away posters of Bret, Shawn, Sid and Sunny to promote the event. WWF hadn't done anything big tv or ppv wise since Mania 6, so this event seemed like a "supercard" of sorts.
      On Canadian channels, WWF commentary was edited to talk about this card during Raw, Superstars etc.
      The Raw broadcast and video of this match came across as much dimmer and quiter then the actual live event. In person, it was very load and as brightly lit as usual tv. Must have been the cameras?
      Love the channel BTW!! ❤️

      @AntonPasquarella ปีที่แล้ว +2

    From posters I have seen it did look like Bret v HBK was definitely on the card for WM13 but think SCSA was always a backup because of Shawn's history of refusing to drop the belt/ drug use spiralling, even in this match he looks unwell

    I never was a huge Bret fan but I can see how his and Shawn's style would have complimented each other greatly in a normal singles match. They could tell the story of how Shawn wants to go aerial and keep the pace fast and Bret forcing him to slow down with holds and traps. And eventually Shawn hits a super kick out of nowhere for the win or Bret catches his leg and turns it into a sharp shooter.

    This is the type of content that made me love this channel, I really wish you did more of this and less of the reliving the war series, which I don't watch, and the game series, which I don't watch, never heard of 99% of them, anyway thanks for this video

    Sid has a reputation for being inept and dangerous in the ring but the way he powerbombed Bret and also Shawn at SURVIVOR SERIES 96 proves that he's not as cumbersome as he's painted 👊💪

    I was there as a kid. Never knew it was a raw tapping though. It felt like any regular House show in a big city (I've been to small town shows as well... I think Adam bomb headlined one of the smaller shows. Also bushwhackers vs. well done lol

    Never forget, "It's Kick or be Kickin' " whenever Psycho Sid is on the Show.

    i was there at this Raw, i got the tickets for christmas that year when i was 11. i was a huge wrestling fan that year and the year before. I had a subscription to wwf magazine that whole year of 1997. i was counting the days for this event as i was a huge Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels fan! looking back it was a strange Raw that more resembled a house show with the dark lighting and awkward ring entrance that seemed to be hundreds of feet from the back area that was just a curtain and you could see the wrestlers walking half through the stadium to get to that curtain. The matches were alright, I got to see Rocky Miavia vs The Sultan and saw Rocky doing his patented finishing maneuver, The Shoulder Breaker lol. classic times for sure. Also got to see Mankind which was huge for me being a big fan of his initial feud with The Undertaker (boiler room brawl, buried alive etc.) I think Vader was there but I'm not remembering if Goldust was there. Ahmed Johnson was there which was great! Watching a few weeks later on TSN was strange, it just came off like a house show or something. I don't quite remember for sure if they showed the Triple Threat but for some reason i feel like they did air it here. I felt like the triple threat went short and I didn't like how Sid was in the match because it interfered with Bret and Shawn having a match. Little did we know this would actually be one of their last matches. Also the closest thing resembling an actual normal modern style match between the 2 as mentioned in this video. As much as I love Iron Man for it's athletics, i would have loved to have seen an In Your House style match between them which we never got to. I ended up getting a Shawn Michaels toy at this show (Jakks figure with red pants), and a Shawn Michaels shirt (Promo Shot of Shawn from 1995 with zebra patterns all over it).

    For everyone of those unreleased matches should setup a stream where you would be the lone commentary I'm sure all us fans would love to watch those matches with your commentary 👍🏾☝🏾

    Had to hit pause at 3:55.
    Went off to find the match in total disbelief.
    Found it.
    Still can't believe it.

    Not gonna lie the way Bret’s theme was edited in the intro it sounded like the music cue from Alien.

    2:13 Never in my life would I ever thought I’d see Stone Cold Steve Austin wear any other color wrist tape, let alone pink!
    Must’ve borrowed from Bret that night lol

      I can’t remember the full reason but part of it was just a rib to HBK I think,you can look it up because Stone Cold actually did a shoot interview about that
      It’s somewhere on TH-cam

    Love all your videos Ryan, long time subscriber would you cover in a video when Bret Hart broke his sternum bone during a match after getting stun gunned on the guard rail.

    Saw this same match in Philly the date of the Super Bowl in 1997, same finish.
