    My pumps just gone this morning.
    Managed to pull the seats up give it a tap with a hammer to get it going again.
    But will be swapping it for an updated one.

    When I changed mine I fitted 2 new seals to the pumps and they were very tight to get the pump back, used some silicon spray that helped. Got the seals from Germany. Great video tho mate.

      @@CarChris82 Nice vid. I've got an urgent dilemma I hope someone can help with. I've been through a real drama with my Audi TT Roadster Mk I and ultimately a new fuel filter is the best initial course of action. During fitting, the rubber plugs won't come off both the ends of filter (access isn't easy either). One comes off nicely using a slight tap with a hammer and a screwdriver...almost home! : ) But.. the other end [clearly the filter is so old!] that the long metal pipe end sheers off nearer the base of the rubber plug and is wedged there!!
      Any net geniuses with any amazing solutions get back to me... pls. Sigh.

    • @renedewael9703
      @renedewael9703 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi ! Of I undestand your problem, Do you know that there is a way to disconnect theses ends ? Like chris did it to unplug the pipes on the begining, you have to press both sides of the connector, before pulling it.
      I did that mistake too when I wanted to replace the filter.
      Same as the fuel pipes under the hood. Same procedure.

    Everything has gone relatively well replacing my fuel pump until now. I can't get the pickup tube bracket connected to the pump. Through the process of the removal and replacement, I have referred to your video several times and up to this point has been very helpful. But it has been extremely difficult with this bracket. Not much room to move and align things in the tank as you know. I hope you or your viewers can add any additional details, photos or videos so I can get this back on the road. Also... why does this bracket need to be attached to the fuel pump? Thanks!

    • @CarChris82
      @CarChris82  ปีที่แล้ว

      It very tight in that area but it has 2 sort of hooks from what I remember that just slot in but if you have the fuel pump housing to tight it reduces the space to hook in, hope this helps

      @@CarChris82 I have been working on the remainder of the install so once I get the pick up tube bracket connected, I am familiar with the final steps of the process. I stumbled upon another issue which is, when I try to hold the pump down so that I can screw on the large threaded ring that holds the pump in place, I can't get the pump down far enough to line the threads up and screw it down. I put on a new seal and still have the same problem. Seems like I am the only person having so many problems with this install.

    On a Quattro split fuel tank do both sides of the tank always have the same level of fuel in them? Does the fuel pump suck out the same amount of fuel from both sides? Is there a fuel level sender in each side?

    • @CarChris82
      @CarChris82  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the other side pump pumps to this side as I connected a pipe from the other side but I've not looked at it, there is only one sender unit for the fuel gauge

    • @fdante87
      @fdante87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 sender units, via the angled connections it pushes fuel to the other tank (with a siphon pump), which siphons out at approximately equivalent rate (this done by sizing the siphon pump and the rate the main pump is pumping to it)

  • @stevenharpervw
    @stevenharpervw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m guessing the new pump has a higher flow rate? Or more pressure ?

  • @mattocolypse

    I did this a couple months ago - I absolutely could not get one of the new nylon pipes back onto the pump without breaking the top of the pump - it would not go with force, even heated a little. I ended up having to find an alternative more flexible fuel-submersible hose with some jubliee clips. Finding that hose was difficult too - not many materials like living in petrol. One of those jobs where you have to put it all back together and go order more shit from the internet.

    • @CarChris82
      @CarChris82  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are definitely a bit stiff i just sort of twisted it on and it went but as long as you have used a fuel grade hose its all the same 👍🏻

      Doesn't sound good but there will always be a way to sort it.to my understanding the metal part of the fuel filter has broke off and is stuck in the connector? If so get something to press the tabs on the connector (fuel filter pliers) if you can get some and then put a screw in the metal part to pull on while pressing the connector

    • @beejj6190
      @beejj6190 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarChris82 Bless ya for your response. Here's my little tale as posted on a TT forum the next day : ) : Underneath the car I'm thinking furiously, lol. I've decided to use a drill bit to wedge into the metal pipe and try pull the connector plug off.
      I'm forced to break the metal clasp around the filter (as the filter holding screw was totally rusted / fused and was going nowhere...sigh). The drill bit wedged into the metal pipe wasn't quite enough as the metal was so tight to the rubber ( I believe it's the original fuel filter - and it had SO much crap in it!).
      I then tried a sharp knife to gouge out some of the rubber around the metal edge - but couldn't get enough purchase. Went back to my drill bit set and noticed I had some micro drill bits (about inch / half long). Keeping the plug and the drill vertical (so I couldn't pierce the plug rubber ( approx. 4mm thick), I drill around the metal pipe edge for about 5 minutes to loosen it from the rubber. Tried the flush drill bit 'pull out' test but still no luck. I leave the bit in the metal pipe and spray WD40 around the end of the pipe / rubber plug. Two tugs of the drill / pull of the plug .. and out the metal pipe comes!!! : )
      So f........ pleased, lol!
      I connect up the fuel filter, patch up the clasp with electric tape and all is secure. The car starts third time and runs smooth. Now to test (now tomorrow if weather improves) to see whether it stalls... wish me luck!
