Just wanna point out something: When I was in theater, we also did a production of High School Musical. Literally one of the first things that my drama teacher said was that you could be the best singer in the world, but if you were timid and meek, you WOULD NOT get the lead role. Confidence had first priority. So the fact that Gabriella got the lead role for the play when she got stage fright at the audition is absolutely BONKERS to me.
same Gabriella getting the lead role makes no sense! If you're trying out for a lead role you need to be confident in front of an audience if you have stage fright you should be in the back round or on the stage crew
Straight up, in theater if you're not fully committed, you can forget about even getting a part. Troy missing the 1st act thinking he can show up for the 2nd? He's not getting on stage at all.
Weirdly not for my school. Theater is really popular in my school with guys and girls. A lot of the performers do track and field, tennis, and softball along with it. Last year I helped with the lights since I’ve been helping the theater all the time with making props anyhow. The director even said the first full cast rehearsal was our dress rehearsal in front of the entire school system. The all day practice following it was the first time he had practice with everyone. Everything went off without a hitch. On Saturday morning before the show there was a track and field meet and everyone still made it on time without an issue
lissamaven Sharpay and Ryan can’t get the leads 24/7 because they are the only names on the sign up sheet for auditions for the leads because no one else signed up because Sharpays name takes up almost the entire sign up sheet. Darbus was probably tired of seeing Ryan and Sharpays Names as the only names for the leads for every single musical 24/7. Also Troy would have shown up for the first act if Gabriella hadn’t been at Sanford which was like 4 hours or more away. He was at Sanford in movie 3. He is fully committed to theatre in a way other wise he wouldn’t have showed up period. he just also likes basketball at the same time. Sharpay and Ryan are good at other things as well that aren’t theatre related. Like Ryan and Sharpay don’t balance their time doing other stuff when they aren’t doing theatre and singing. Also I think the idea for theatre mainly is you just have to show up period mainly at some point. Other wise they wouldn’t have understudies for good reasons.Troy despite missing the first act still showed up for the second one. Plus if Gabriella hadn’t been at Sanford they would have Been there for the whole entire act. The only reason they missed the first act was because Gabriella was all the way at Sanford and Troy had to go and get her then drive all the way back. Gabriella was the other main Lead for the movie 3 musical he couldn’t have done the musical without her other wise he’d be stuck singing with Sharpay and he doesn’t like singing with Sharpay as much as he does Gabriella as shown in movie 2. Troy in movie 3 kind of had no choice but to show up for the second act since he was like 4 hours or more away. Theatre also has to be more understanding for those who have other stuff going on espeically if someone is like 4 hours or more away. If they are understanding when someone gets sick,or has family issues...then someone playing a sport or being hours away is no different than someone who is sick or has a family emergency pop up. Especially if the theatre is understanding for people like with Sharpay then Troy is no different. Sharpays only Been in like 17 school productions her entire education like there weren’t times she and Ryan missed productions because something else happened.
Metal/rock/alternative music person :I think that’s because most schools are a lot more understanding if something comes up at the last minute there are understudies for a reason. Like if someone has a sports game or something else come up it’s no different than someone being sick or out of town. Sometimes last minute stuff pops up when you least expect it.
@@Megz1794 Theatre teachers choose who is best for the part and Darbus knows that Sharpay and Ryan are talented and hard-working performers. Just being able to sing is not the only thing that's considered and she knows absolutely nothing about Troy and Gabriella except that they were late (strike 1), Gabriella had stage-fright indicating that she wasn't used to being onstage (strike 2) and that they're dedicated to other clubs (not necessarily a strike but definitely puts them a tier below the actually dedicated drama kids who've spent years working at their craft). There's a reason new theatre kids are given supporting roles first. Troy had already made a commitment to being in the play, and you can't miss the first act of a play only to show up for the second. Never mind the fact that it confuses the audience, it shows a clear lack of care and respect. If you can't do a job well, then let the people who actually can get on stage and give the audience what they want. It's not a crime to have different hobbies, but it is bad to not know how to balance those hobbies. You can't say "well if he didn't care he wouldn't have shown up" because that's not how it works. If someone was late to a job interview, a recital, etc that'd be a strike against them. The world doesn't bend over to fix your mistakes. (except they're the protagonists so it does). Theatre, like everything else, requires commitment. Maybe your experiences are different, but most theatre shows require everyone to commit to the show. If you don't turn up, you aren't getting on stage. Even if you have a good reason, you still missed half the show, so no. If the show runs for more than one night you might get to perform later, but otherwise you're not getting on that stage. That's what understudies are for. And speaking of good reasons, BEING SICK OR HAVING FAMILY ISSUES IS NOT THE SAME AS "oh i have a sport's game silly me haha". The former are completely out of your control. Unless you went skinny dipping in winter, coming down with a cold on the night of a performance isn't something you deliberately caused. Having a prior engagement is not a good reason, if anything it just shows bad planning on your part. Finally, you can't use "well he doesn't like singing with Sharpay" as a defense. You think every co-performer likes the other? It's called acting and most directors will tell you to suck it up and get on with the show. Songs are usually 4 minutes long and shows max at 3 hours. Unless Troy had an actual good reason to dislike Sharpay (and by good reason I mean racism, violence, breaking institutional rules etc and not just "she's not Gabriella") then this is just petty. Hell, why was Gabriella allowed to audition if she was gonna be 4 hours away the night of the show?? Why didn't she make plans to be there like staying over at a friend's place or driving there by herself earlier in the day? In conclusion, I get the feeling you're just trying to exonerate Troy and Gabriella, and while you're free to like them as characters, you really can't justify everything they do. Besides, you don't have to, the movie logic already bends over backwards to fix their mistakes.
And just because someone is protagonist doesn’t make them the hero, a protagonist is the main character and the story usually centers around them. Most might see Sharpay as the Antagonist, a character who is against the main character and not necessarily evil. But Sharpay isn’t really an Antagonist, she try’s to HELP the main character
The antagonist isn't against the main character, they just cause conflict. For instance, let's say the protagonist and his/her friend were both trying out for a musical. Would the friend be considered a villain because he/she is wanting the same role as the protagonist? No, but they do cause conflict. A villain is actively working to defeat the hero, but an antagonist just causes conflict in the story. Just because Sharpay is going for the same role in the musical doesn't mean she's the villain.
nevaeh By doing nice things for him in hopes to at least get a “lead role” of singing with him? Once? She possibly wanted more but settled with this very simple thing! Mean while troy made her do things for him as if she’d get that prize than in the end totally flops on the promise. Making someone do something because they think they’ll get something in return (while not holding your end of the deal) is manipulative and selfish. Very bad.
Funny thing here is that Zac Efron said in an interview that he HATED Troy as a character and would punch him immediately in the face if given the chance.
I also hate the fact that Ryan and Sharpay are so experienced and they probably worked their behinds off 24/7 to get the parts, only to lose to two beginners who literally have no reason to be the leads of the play
True, in my school's theater club, newcomers would often be extras, dancers/ensemble, and would be super lucky to have a part on the main cast in general. The movie is super unrealistic.
@@austinpelissier2131 wait.. you mean musicals dont spontaneously occur in the hallways of high school?!?!?! I totally thought this is EXACTLY what happens in high school. I'm shocked that this MOVIE made by DISNEY channel, would be less than realistic..
umm, to be a serious consideration in ANY school sport or activity, your grades have to be at LEAST satisfactory. He probably is naturally talented as a whiz kid but prefers physical activity over brain clubs. There's nerds in EVERY division.
The Uber Successful in hsm3, Troy said he would probably have to sit finals multiple times over....implying that he knew that he was a mediocre student at best. And anyway, “satisfactory grades” aren’t good enough to be class valedictorian.
I love Sharpay but sometimes she tries a little too hard especially when she changes the songs Kelsi writes Troy is a nice guy although sometimes it’s hard to show It
@@rhearfl698 There’s two sides to that. She tells Kelsey to “write it in her key.” Different singers have different styles. Sharpay probably understands what styles suit her vocals. I did choir and stopped after a year because my voice sounded rigid and less smooth with the straight laced music choices. Give me show tunes, alternative, pop etc my vocals are solid- im a 2nd alto. Vice versa a classmate of mine sounded good in choir but if she sang a modern song she’d hit the notes (had a wide range) but it’d sound soulless and stiff. If you “compared us, she would skillfully be better. But it depends on who’s listening and what is required. In warm ups we sang a lot of pop music and when people heard me they were like 😱 you sound so good. I wouldn’t say Im an amazing singer. Did it hurt Kelsey that her songs weren’t portrayed how she wanted? Im sure. But the kid didn’t stick up for herself either. Like she wrote the whole show. Im sure she had some input on creative direction. My high school did student led productions.
In theatre, if you're not on time, not committed, and not serious overall about the production, you can forget about getting a supporting role, let alone the main role. As a theatre kid, Troy infuriates me.
Exactly. I was in Les Miserables a few years ago and played the main character Jean Valjean. The theater teacher had to make sure I was COMMITTED to doing the role. I had at least six to eight hours per day working on this musical. I also had private singing lessons, extra blocking, character development and exercises and a huge schedule. I also had to memorize a lot of lines (obviously) , be on time for call time, and try on costumes as the opening night drew nearer. Troy and Gabriella are not and will never be good theater students
@@universalpower419 No one said anything about talent. They just said you have to actually *care* about the show you're performing, which is true. Don't be a Troy.
Sharpay was the confident fashionista and drama club outcast that everyone at the school pretended to dislike but secretly admired and envied… she was always sweet at heart and never a true mean girl.
Regina is just a stupid untitiled manipulative brat compared to Sharpay! Oh! And even if the actress is an adult, lets not forget that the character is propabably like 15!! That's sooo worse!!! Yikes!!
Forgetting that Troy bullied the freshman in the third movie! He took his clothes and exposed him to the theater. Also, Troy was the reason the guy decided to sing with sharpay , ruining the show. Cause he believed sharpay liked him cause Troy said. Then Sharpay might have lost the scholarship to julliard cause her show was ruined. Troy May not have been the villain but was a really mean person to the only person who looked up to him.
@@baguette_tt9601 I feel like this is a joke but I can’t entirely tell so If it’s a joke lmao If it’s not Why was I sent to court all I did was stabbed that dudes dog it was just a prank bro
Sharpay isn’t perfect, she’s a little bit of a diva but she has redeeming quality’s, she has character flaws but compared to literally every other character she probably has the best morals.
The best morals? Sis literally attempted to break up Troy and Gabriella. She desperately threw herself at Troy knowing he had a girlfriend. And she was mean and selfish towards Ryan and others
@@rorrim0 Um no. Sounds like a sociopath. I don't know what kind of teenage girls you hang out with but I wouldn't want to meet them. And as a teenage girl, I've never acted like that and will never

Troy is probably the most short sighted person and naive character I’ve ever seen. In addition, the “good guys” are toxic af, Sharpay is actually a good person with something called honor yes I said it Sharpay is the most honorable and morally sound person in the series.
This theory was so satisfying. So may people assume just because a girl is rich, popular and wears makeup, she has to be the biggest jerk in the world. And just because the main protagonist gets the boy, saves a cat and is "naturally pretty", she has to be a saint. Thank you for proving that things aren't that black and white.
THL Productions they don’t mean black and white as in race. They mean like good and evil. Nothing is one thing or another. It’s mixed and what might seem like a bad thing is actually good and vise versa
There is no way two extremely experienced and talented actors who clearly have a standing relationship with the director, would get passed up for two COMPLETE noobs, one of whom has extreme stage fright
Exactly! I mean Troy ig makes sense why he would be casted but why Gabriella? I mean 1. She's new to the school in the first movie and 2. Doesn't have any theater experience whatsoever! 3. Has stage fright I mean usually you won't get a lead role until after you do a couple of shows, and you DEFINITELY won't get it on the first show you do ever
@@SieMiezekatze Your confusing Troy the character with Zack Effron the actor. Troy, the character has Zack Effron's body and Drew Seeley's voice when singing in the same way that Darth Vader has James Earl Jones's voice, and David Prowse's body at the time. By your logic, Vader really sounds like an Englishman.
But those two experience and talented actors couldn't even perform a simple love ballad and had to switch it to an upbeat show-stopper, as opposed to the complete noobs, who could actually sing the song as it was written.
Poor Sharpay was villainized when she was just devoted to the arts and still did nice things for Troy and Gabriella. She was only shocked that Troy and Gabriella got the leads when they were late to auditions (Twice!) and have no experience in the arts and put no effort into their performances. Sharpay was betrayed by her own brother too, but she still kept strong and decided to help her high school’s theatre program. Troy and Gabriella got whatever they wanted even when they said and did bad things because they’re the main characters. Sharpay deserves justice.
I've also noticed that it makes a "Blondes vs Brunettes" fight which is really not something that sits well with me. Oh, sweet, smart brunettes are better than hardworking, pink-loving blondes who are usually cast as the villain. Can we all just...not slap on stereotypes.
I swear to god I had to change schools because I was bullied for being a pink loving blonde and everyone called me Barbie and stuff. Now I've embraced my Barbie identity every time that I'm walking into the faculty of international economics I'm studying in Europe. People just assume you can't be feminine, confident and smart at the same time. Watch and learn.
Ooh look at me I'm a dumb, rich blonde who loves pink and if you hurt my feelings I'm telling daddy. Why do so many movies do this? It makes me sick. *Sigh*
@@Daiglaki it's originally French borrowed by English. In French the masculine spelling is Brunet and is taken from Brun which literally means brown But it typically means girl with brown hair.
Y'know Troy, if theater is really something you want to pursue, you're gonna have to start being comfortable performing alongside people who aren't your girlfriend :/
Tbh Sharpay's movie really let us see how hardworking she really is and changes how you see her in the high school musical films when you rewatch. Also now I kinda wish Troy ended up not being able to go to any college and having no friends
@dristawxstaken Sharpay never let Troy and Gabriella have a turn to sing Kelsi had to do what Sharpay said she threatened Kelsi to rewrite you are the music in me really I mean come on sure she is talented but why not let somebody else have a turn
Tbh the person who annoyed me the most was Taylor. She knew Gabriella for all of two months and still tried to force her hand to choose the decathlon with the webcam stunt. And in HSM 2 she kept blowing up the narrative that Troy was taking more interest in Sharpay when in reality Troy was super uncomfortable with every interaction with her but was trying to do what he could to be able to afford college.
Taylor also had a bit of internalized misogyny where she told Gabriella about how all cheerleaders are vapid & boy crazy, and how the Decathlon women's academic ambitions made them better
Wooli e I swear her and Troy are the ones that basically get everything, it’s all handed to them without them doing anything to EARN IT!!!! Which Ryan and Sharpay did, they were honestly the most hardworking characters in HSM to me, yet in the end they didn’t get the Spotlight it’s handed to two people who didn’t even take it seriously. Literally this kind of gives the message that you shouldn’t work hard for the things you want, you’ll get it by being lazy (Troy) inexperienced (Troy & Gabriella)
At least Gabriella IS smart so getting into Stanford wasn't out of reach. She also did choir before HSM1 so she had some singing experience. Everything else just sort of fell in her lap.
Although I agree with every word said in this episode, tone matters. Sharpay constantly throughout the movie says things that are obviously sarcastic or made to put the others down. But once again I do agree she gets out down for nothing, she works hard and deserves to come out on top
She also hits on Troy in High School Musical 2 which was not appropriate. But they're high schoolers, they haven't necessarily learned how to be mature adults yet.
omg I always thought that the scene where their "friends" gets Troy to admit he doesn't like Gabriela was pretty messed up. When your friends have someone they like you support them until you have a reason not to, not con your friend into saying the complete opposite of what their feeling.
They said that in a scene. I think it was Chad that said that if music is something that Troy likes, they should be boosting him up not tearing him down.
I like how he chooses Gabriela over acting on stage with Sharpay, which is basically his college, income, etc on the line, but he'd leave her like that in an instant over what his friends said. It makes no sense.
Now that I see this Troy and Gabriella are the real brats Sharpay is the only decent person in the ENTIRE franchise Sharpay is hardworking and nice and just because she is rich doesn't mean she is rude Her parents worked hard foe their money
True the first movie all she did say all get you a role and help you lut secomd movie helps troy woth college like his dad is a basketball coach like he cant afford college all on his own third movie literly does nothing to anyone but dreams of being on brodway
Honestly I think the real villian in High School Musical was Troy's father and Mrs. Darbus, they together put a lot of pressure on the students and really if it wasn't for them, they wouldn't be as divided as they were. Sharpey didn't even like Troy in the first movie, so it was totally confusing when she was interested in him in the second.
It feels so satisfying that people are finally starting to realize that just because you are rich, talented, a pretty means you are bad. Heck, Sharpay might not even be that talented, she might just be way more hard working than me think at first glance. I mean, she IS super persistance about her dreams, and she might have been practicing 9 hours a day everyday since she was like 5. But noooooooo, because she is a rich girl that just happends to be blond and like pink things, she is obviusly the bad guy.
They could have broken that stereotype but sharpay literally judged Gabriella as soon as she entered the school lmao- she had to be the star of every single show and walked all over her brother
@@shwbrt11 Its not judging. Sharpay literally was rude to Gabriella as soon as she showed any interest in the musical like she's the bad guy because she does legitimate bad things lol
I understand why Sharpay was mad when Troy wouldn’t sing with her, I mean she put so much effort in to getting college scouts to get in and Troy wouldn’t even sing ONE song with her. He could have gotten a scholarship and decides that friends were more important
Another problem I had with Troy and is that he could barely act. Whenever he was singing with Gabriella he could convey the emotion of love but when he was singing with sharpay he looked like an idiot. Sharpay was able to pretend she was in love with her brother.
If Troy was just a bit nicer to his friends and girlfriend when Sharpay offered him all that money and the scholarship, he totally could've had his future set. But he was a jerk and bailed on all of them, and he let his ego get in the way. Yet, everyone still blamed Sharpay.
I don't think you can blame a kid for getting way in over his head for getting nice things. honestly, his friends should have tried to be understanding instead of the shit friends they were in part 1 and 2
💯 Agree. I don't understand why he couldn't have just been kind but firm with Sharpay (about his lack of feelings for her), have some fun singing a song with her, graciously accept her help in setting things up for college, whilst balancing his newly invested time with Sharpay with his friends. All it would have taken was some honest communication with both parties (Sharpay and his friends/Gabriella) and he would've been set.
Dude, this ain't a theory, you're basically proving it RIGHT. Not a theory, but a true statement. It has great evidence and rebuttals, and there is explanation as well. I think that you're right. Edit: Prob most likes I’ve gotten.
That's not what a theory is A hypothesis is essentually an educated guess. A theory is a statement you say with evidence, and a theorum is something that's 100 percent true. Like it's a theory that fat people have a lower life expectancy but you can never 100 percent say that all fat people will have a lower life expectancy because it isn't true and you can't prove it to be true either way. So most things that aren't mathematical are theories, even when they have strong evidence, like the theory of Gravity and the theory of evolution
Sharpay: Helps Gabriella with vocals, helps Troy get to the college of his dreams, gives her brother the award (even though he backstabbed her), even though she didn't get chosen for Juilliard (which makes no sense because she is super talented), she still decides to help out with her school's theater program, listens to her parents, helps out the lead actress, and helps out a little boy, and is a SUPER hard worker. Troy: Gets everything he wants, BUT STILL CAN'T EVEN SING ONE SIMPLE SONG! woooooooooooowwwww
I've always said this. I always hated Troy and Gabriela so much because they always reminded me of the popular kids who never talked to me but still called me a brat or a bitch for never talking to them. Funny thing is they never tried to talk to me either and if they had they'd have realize I could not talk. Literally could not.
The more I watch HSM I think “Why are they auditioning to different songs?” It would make more sense that they would be doing the same song so Ms. Darbus could more easily determine who sings it better. That being said I would love to have seen Ashley and Lucas do Breaking Free or Vanessa and Zac (or more likely Drew Seeley) doing Bop to the Top.
Or they should have three songs, one for low singers, one for middle singers, and one for high singers. Or the one song should just have 3 parts which is the most realistic part.
Troy: "I care more about what my friends think of me!" Also Troy: *Completely ditches all of his friends to play basketball with the professionals* Am I seriously the only one who noticed this?
That was the point of the second movie though. It was about Troy failing his friends but at the end realizing he was wrong. His friends made him realize that he was becoming too self-absorbed. He recognized it and changed. So, in a way, he was redeemed from that.
@@giavannarhem6479 I kind of wish we had an alternate universe where she was in love with Zeke instead. He'd actually be more deserving of her love and of Sharpay moving heaven and earth to help him get to the university of his choice with scholarship in tow.

Sharpay wanted to help the newcomers and got given crap for trying to defend herself or even try to get her role back. She is a theatre kid, she knows how it runs and the dedication needed and she wanted to prove they weren't, because who wouldn't? If you know someone has 3 jobs and is going for a fourth, and that position just so happens to be the one you've been gunning for, then this lil brat rocks up, gets the job, then still can't find time to do the job YOU worked so hard for, you'd be furious EDIT: WHY IS THIS THE MOST LIKED THING I HAVE DONE ON ALL OF SOCIAL MEDIA I HATE IT HERE THIS IS JUST AGREEING WITH MATPAT AND YOU GUYS GAVE 4K LIKES W H Y
I always liked Sharpay the most back when I first watched these movies. Now that I'm older and can really comprehend all the things you've pointed out, I'm glad that even as a kid I could pick up on these things. I found myself gravitating towards her more and more as each movie released, and thinking that I'd much rather hang out with someone like her than any of the others. She always seemed like a genuinely nice person that was just misunderstood. But hey, that's just a theory... a comment theory
I don't think a genuinely nice person would homewreck on someone's relationship, bully people, treat her brother like trash, and manipulate others for selfish reasons
13:37 Sharpay: "Troy, Troy. This could literally change your life!" Troy: "I'm more interested in what my friends think of me." Isn't that usually what the whiny teenager in a movie says to make us hate them?
Sharpay: "Troy, Troy. This could literally change your life!" Troy: "I'm more interested in what my friends think of me." Och so he's basically saying Sharpy isn't his friend... why did I not notice this before.
As an 11 year old die hard theater kid I also loved Sharpay, because she inspired me to be more open about what I want to do with my life. Sharpay and her brother worked so hard. Troy and Gabriella slacked off, took what they had for granted and didn’t deserve any of their roles.
I always felt bad for Sharpay. She got her musical taken away from her, her talent show she had been waiting for for the whole year, and her scholarship.
"Troy this could change your life" "I'm more interested in what my friends think of me" Okay, just those lines right there, I almost feel like this understory is what they were secretly going for, like something for the kids and something for the adults. Depending on your maturity level is how you watch the movie.
Boglenight that line always made me so mad. Yes friends are important but focus on you future man you can’t just bail on something as big as getting scholarships because “my friends will be mad at me”.
Also, as the friend points out, "she is offering you a tuition-paid college education just so you can sing with her in a talent show" Dude, I would sing with someone in a THOUSAND talent shows for that!
Troy: I CARE MORE ABOUT WHAt MY FRIENDS THINK OF ME!! Me: DO U KNOW HOW FRICKEN EXPENSIVE COLLAGE IS ?!?! I’m mean like honeyyyy... *Edit: Thanks for all the likes! Also stop saying I don’t know how to spell, that was part of the joke -~-*
Jessica Rivera Honestly, that was the most stupid line I’ve ever heard. If someone practically serve me a free college education on a silver platter, I’d totally devour it. If my friends can’t support me for preparing for a better future, then they’re not my friends. The problem with Troy, he neglected his friends on his own. Didn’t even spare a second to explain why he has to hang out with Sharpay all the time. It wasn’t Sharpay’s fault that he had a fall out with his friends, he was just really a jerk. Not that I sympathise considering what his friends did to him in HSM1...

Bruh, I’m sick of these characters always achieving things just because their “talented” and didn’t have to work for it. These characters are huge Mary Sue’s and don’t deserve a single thing handed to them because all they do is complain, be lazy, and only get chosen for things just because their talented. Meanwhile, people who are hardworking, absolutely devoted to what they do are kicked to the curb, just because they weren’t as “talented” or “perfect” as everyone else. Every single movie like this just gives you the message, “If you’re hardworking, it doesn’t matter, because at the end of the day, someone talented yet not hardworking will replace you while you get ridiculed and overshadowed.”
Dam... I don't watch movies much but I watch anime and in one of the most popular anime "Naruto" it's literally about a child who works hard and in one of the exams he goes against "Neji"- a "genius" and beats him which leaves a message saying the opposite of what you said xD
Exactly. That‘s why I always hated the leads in the movie. I like the theme of being true to who you are despite people not accepting you but beyond that the entire Musical is essentially totally misunderstanding talent for something that‘s a fever dream. You can‘t be perfect at a thing right away. Everyone needs to learn a skill and I‘m quite sick of movies pretending some ppl are magically gifted. This is not reality. In reality people work hard to get skilled at stuff. They don‘t just succeed cause they are perfect people cause perfect people don‘t exist.
@@Stillious22 even though Naruto got his powers from his father a time traveling ninja and has basically a god fueling him. He didn’t work for those things- he barely worked at all! Rock Lee should have been the main character
True, and then they act like the protagonists that got everything did it by working hard even though most things got handed to them. I'm glad most movies today aren't using that same trope though because gosh it was annoying.

in the books, Sharpay isn't really evil tbh. She's interpreted as a non-loveable, but decent character. Most of the time she is the rival, but in the books they usually get along in the end bcs.. classic disney man.
personally, I love Zac Efron as an actor. I think he is great! But Troy is just not the right kinda character for him. Zac can do better than Troy. Come on, we all know that!
High school musical feels like its made at the expense of theater kids, not for them. Kind of like The big bang theory being about smart people for dumb people.
Especially when you consider how it gets pretty much every detail about musical theater and performing completely wrong. Even really obvious pedestrian stuff, like the fact that any given performer in a musical needs to not just be able to sing, but also dance and act. -The series acts as if the only roles worth getting or even talking about in a musical is the lead (or the lead's understudy). -It acts as if being in a musical isn't just as huge a commitment as sports or the science club. I mean sure, they made it to the callback. But now that they have the parts, what about rehearsals? Are we supposed to believe that they'll never have a scheduling conflict ever again? Or just become exhausted from dedicating themselves to _two extracurricular activities at once?_ -It acts as if a musical collaboratively written by a senior year class -- most of whom are not in the drama club-- about _themselves_ would be anything other than a pipe dream disaster??? (Because yeah, that's what the musical in HSM3 is.) _-It acts as if JULLIARD would want TROY BOLTON as a student and that he would be at all tempted to go there._
@@jotarokujo8423 Because your dumb if you really think this is how 'smart' people operate, also the extreme sexism in the show is crazy I used to think sheldon was cute until I actually listened to some of the stuff he says.. yeah he's just an incel
ahhhh I remember reading this theory on Buzzfeed. Sharpay was actually right though, and even Ashley Tisdale agreed. Justice for Sharpay. Who is with me?
It’s soo annoying how Ryan and Sharpay have probably been working their asses of for months. Then we have Troy and Gabriella who most likely woke up one morning and thought: I think I’ll try out for the school musical today, just for the fun of it
Troy: I'm more worried about what my friends think me me Me: yeah that's a great message to send to kids "the friends I'll probably forget matter more than my entire future"
@@azrael4457 My friends think of me? If my friends understand me, they'd rather support me if I'm working for my future. That's what good friends are like, they support you in your hard times rather than complaining about not making yourself available to them all the time. Friends are considered as one of the people who understand, if they don't realize what you're going thru and still want you to give them time it's pretty selfish of them. Poor Troy
The heroine is a brash, loud mouthed and bit boastful rich girl but is ultimately a good hearted individual with a good work ethic. The villain is a mild mannered individual but also a greedy and cunning manipulator. This would've made the movie so much better
And I thought I was wierd that I hated Troy. I don't really know why...but during the movies (especially in HSM 2) his character annoyed me more and more. He broke promises, disappointed people and ignores the hard work that people like Sharpay have done for him. Now seriously, if someone just would give a place on a college or something like that, just for singing with her/him a song on stage, I would probably accept it and do it. When your friends blame you for that then they are jealous and aren't your friends in this case. Friends support eachother in any possible way and don't hate for this things. I liked Sharpay, also when my friends never understood that. All of them said that she's manipulative and only think about herself. But when you think about it, that isn't completely correct. Yes that she's manipulative and stuff, BUT she also cares for the others. Best example: Ryan. In the second movie he betrayes her and what does she? She gives him the trophy of the contest and is proud of him. And because of that is Sharpay, for me, my second favorite character after Ryan. Both of them are hard-working and care about others, also when it doesn't seem like. To be honest, I don't really like Troy and Gabriella. Sure, both of are hot and stuff, but c'mon. Both of them betrayed other people in a different way and made A LOT mistakes that brought themself and other people in trouble. And yeah, I kinda always like the villians more than the actual "heros". I like the hard-working and darker side more than the light side, where you kinda get everything served on a platinum plate. But it's my opinion and respect everyone who has an other opinion. I didn't think actually that this comment is getting so long...
How did Gabriela betray other people? Sure, Troy is evil, I would know. But why hate on Gabriela when she hasn't done much wrong. Sharpay is the better one, I agree, but at least appreciate Gabriela. There is so much positivity in her character. Please look at them.
I would just like to point out that Sharpay threw Ryan out first and baled on him so she could sing with troy. I agree she's not a villikan but too many people pointed out that Ryan "betrayed" her when she baled on him first and only asked him to come back when troy did the same thing to her.
Fun fact: I had been offered the opportunity to be an extra in the movie, since I live in Utah, but I was too afraid to actually accept that invitation (though, my friend did accept that invitation, and got kicked out of the film because he punched Zack Effron (at least that's what he claimed happened)).
I hate how movies always picture the “rich” person as the “bad” person. It’s just not fair. You can’t judge a person by how much money they have! Her parents probably worked day and night for their money!
Yeah! Rich kids are usually AINT THAT BAD. I hated this movie so much when i watched it that i stopped like almost when it ended. Not even WHEN it ended
Like, her dad seems like a legitimately cool guy in the short clip(s) of him we get. If I'm wrong, sorry. I don't like hsm2 so I havent seen it many times lol
I've met some wealthy people and only once have I actually seen a spoiled rich kid. In fact most rich families I meet go out of their way to make sure they DON'T spoil their kid.
Wait... Did Troy just say he only cares what people think about him? Yet another reason why to dislike him! Yeah, Sharpey may be portrayed as mean, but she didn't take her wealth for granted. I guess I just want to emphasise the point that she tried to work on her own regardless of her wealth...
Don’t forget, when Troy gets promoted, his friends turn their backs on him because he’s… yknow… busy with his job. Only accepting him back in when he decides to leave his high paying job and become a dishwasher again.
can we also agknowledge the fact that he says he is so poor and he needs the money for the scholership and lives in a goddamn mansion with a basketball court.
Mom and Dad: Oh yeah! We have enough to build a basketball course, a gardner, a maid and a big a** kitchen!! Also Mom and Dad : College!! Mmmm... Yikes! You know we don't have the money!
Compared to Elon Musk I'm poor, heck everybody is poor compared to those rick billionaire guys. Compared to an average Blue-collar worker? I'm still poor lol, living hat unemployment life.
Yeah, the first time I saw it (cause my friends forced me to), I was surprised but as a child I didn't pay much attention. But as an adult: OH BOY. If this would happen to my daughter, I swear I would call their parents and ask them to have a very long talk about good behavior as a friend.
When the annoyingly popular girl with an amazing voice is *in* the drama club and forces you, the more experienced one, to play second fiddle although you worked for *hours* to perfect that song and she actually forgets half of her lines in the actual show, you cover her sorry behind, and she thanks you by pointing out everything you did wrong including the *huge* fact that you stod slightly to the left instead of the right. *inhales* AAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
this is literally something I'm passionate about lmfao Sharpay is the ONLY good character in the entire series, I'm so glad she got her redemption in Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure
Watching the HSM trilogy I've always adored Sharpay, she's always been my favorite character and you want to know why? The reason is that she actually had a personality.
Her confidence is what inspired me to be more confident about myself, even when I was like 12!! The way she walks in the corridor, she say what she has to say, she's not affraid of anything...!
@@NameName-yj7lp that's the beauty. She feels real because she has flaws. Having a personality means that it has flaws and thats what the viewers adore most as well. The leads, Gabriella and troy just feel bland as they have no flaws no character.
13:38 "I'm only interested in what my friends think of me"(Zac Effron) Yeah,I don't care about my well-being,or my education,or just myself in general,I ONLY CARE WHAT MY FRIENDS THINK OF ME,cause that's all that matters! Yeah,I learned this life lesson when I was 5
THANK YOU THANK YOOOOOU I knew that Sharpay wasn't the villain at all. Smh Troy never once called Gabriella his girlfriend so Sharpay always assumed he was free. He never made it official.
Just wanna point out something:
When I was in theater, we also did a production of High School Musical.
Same
same Gabriella getting the lead role makes no sense! If you're trying out for a lead role you need to be confident in front of an audience if you have stage fright you should be in the back round or on the stage crew

SAAAAME
Straight up, in theater if you're not fully committed, you can forget about even getting a part. Troy missing the 1st act thinking he can show up for the 2nd? He's not getting on stage at all.
Trueee!🧐
Sharpsy also gets maulplated by troy
Joline Taylor No she does not. Not for his good anyway. She was manipulative.
Even as a child i've never really viewed Sharpay as an antagonist but more of an "anti hero"
nevaeh By doing nice things for him in hopes to at least get a “lead role” of singing with him? Once? She possibly wanted more but settled with this very simple thing! Mean while troy made her do things for him as if she’d get that prize than in the end totally flops on the promise. Making someone do something because they think they’ll get something in return (while not holding your end of the deal) is manipulative and selfish. Very bad.
Lets not forget that Sharpay LEARNED ANOTHER LANGUAGE FOR HER AUDITION SONG. Now THAT is effort.
Dang she did?! What language was it?

What are you gonna do? Put him to shame with your box steps? Pull out the view points? Comment on his stance?

And in HSM 2 she kept blowing up the narrative that Troy was taking more interest in Sharpay when in reality Troy was super uncomfortable with every interaction with her but was trying to do what he could to be able to afford college.
So, Taylor's a "pick me" girl?
Taylor also had a bit of internalized misogyny where she told Gabriella about how all cheerleaders are vapid & boy crazy, and how the Decathlon women's academic ambitions made them better
Taylor was nosy and messy
BRUH Sharpay gets everything? Y'all aren't looking at Gabriella. She gets to everything without experience half the time smh
True

At least Gabriella IS smart so getting into Stanford wasn't out of reach. She also did choir before HSM1 so she had some singing experience. Everything else just sort of fell in her lap.

Although I agree with every word said in this episode, tone matters. Sharpay constantly throughout the movie says things that are obviously sarcastic or made to put the others down. But once again I do agree she gets out down for nothing, she works hard and deserves to come out on top
Tbf wouldn’t you be rude or sarcastic to two people who clearly think they’re way too important?
She also hits on Troy in High School Musical 2 which was not appropriate. But they're high schoolers, they haven't necessarily learned how to be mature adults yet.
omg I always thought that the scene where their "friends" gets Troy to admit he doesn't like Gabriela was pretty messed up. When your friends have someone they like you support them until you have a reason not to, not con your friend into saying the complete opposite of what their feeling.
They said that in a scene. I think it was Chad that said that if music is something that Troy likes, they should be boosting him up not tearing him down.
The “friends” are the most messed up characters definitely
I like how he chooses Gabriela over acting on stage with Sharpay, which is basically his college, income, etc on the line, but he'd leave her like that in an instant over what his friends said. It makes no sense.
That's why I didn't like HSM as a kid. Their friends were so awful it really turned me off

Edit: Prob most likes I’ve gotten.
That's not what a theory is
A hypothesis is essentually an educated guess.

As an 11 year old die hard theater kid I also loved Sharpay, because she inspired me to be more open about what I want to do with my life. Sharpay and her brother worked so hard. Troy and Gabriella slacked off, took what they had for granted and didn’t deserve any of their roles.
They just wanted to have fun tho- Sharpay doesn’t need to be the lead in everything

Or just become exhausted from dedicating themselves to _two extracurricular activities at once?_
-It acts as if a musical collaboratively written by a senior year class -- most of whom are not in the drama club-- about _themselves_ would be anything other than a pipe dream disaster??? (Because yeah, that's what the musical in HSM3 is.)
_-It acts as if JULLIARD would want TROY BOLTON as a student and that he would be at all tempted to go there._

Friends are considered as one of the people who understand, if they don't realize what you're going thru and still want you to give them time it's pretty selfish of them. Poor Troy
Troy would honestly have been a great villain if the story actually treated him like the villain and not the hero.
The heroine is a brash, loud mouthed and bit boastful rich girl but is ultimately a good hearted individual with a good work ethic. The villain is a mild mannered individual but also a greedy and cunning manipulator. This would've made the movie so much better
That makes the movie good to me tbh. It's like in I Am Legend. I don't want to reveal spoilers so watch it yourself.
Great
RIGHT
And I thought I was wierd that I hated Troy.

In real life, rich students are more well-rounded and smarter than poor students.
"We are EXACTLY the same!"
*looks at Zac's abs*
"We are MOSTLY the same!
😂
Victoria James yassssss
Thanks, I also watched the intro
Only accepting him back in when he decides to leave his high paying job and become a dishwasher again.
summary of this video:
1. temper tantrums over zac efron getting the role
2. ryans stupid hats
3. sharpay is not evil
Willow Gibson lmfao 😂😂😂
I like Ryan's hatz
Jackson Kelley Me too his hats are cool
@@marial7625 we have the same taste
Sharpay is savage and selfish. That is true
troy get's everything and doesn't use them in a good way. Sharpay, on the other hand, never gives up, and is thankful (probably) for her riches.
it's gets not get's
Mark Weaver but she's a applied brat who does anything she wants...
By the end it isn't even a theory anymore it's just a plain fact
TROY BOLTON IS AN ASS
isn't it allways
Actually, theories are a method to explain facts
Yasssss
Michael Iv lol, nit picker
"Actually, just the plot of Grease"
Me: "Uhh.... He has a point."
This is actually funny though, Grease IS a musical
can we also agknowledge the fact that he says he is so poor and he needs the money for the scholership and lives in a goddamn mansion with a basketball court.
It’s Utah I bet houses aren’t as expensive but college can cost lots of money
@Ks I was guessing cuz my friend lives there in a big mansion and she said It wasnt that ex
MatPat: WE ARE EXACTLY THE SAME
Troy: *rips shirt off*
MatPat: we are mostly the same....
The hidden camera was so wrong of their friends. Sharpay was never that bad.
hi Ashton Kutcher
Yeah, the first time I saw it (cause my friends forced me to), I was surprised but as a child I didn't pay much attention. But as an adult: OH BOY.
If this would happen to my daughter, I swear I would call their parents and ask them to have a very long talk about good behavior as a friend.
I actually agree with this. She helped with his career and goals. Gabriellia only cares about what she wanted.
LOL!!! “She transfers to Troy’s school; basically the plot of Grease”
Me: 🤣🤣🤣
GREASE LMFAO
Mr Ravenclaw yup
This comment+username gave me cancer
When the annoyingly popular girl with an amazing voice is *in* the drama club and forces you, the more experienced one, to play second fiddle although you worked for *hours* to perfect that song and she actually forgets half of her lines in the actual show, you cover her sorry behind, and she thanks you by pointing out everything you did wrong including the *huge* fact that you stod slightly to the left instead of the right.
*inhales* AAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Malvern Wilson how did the drama club react?
ikr, gabriella is so annoying and spoiled. how the tables turned lmao
this is literally something I'm passionate about lmfao Sharpay is the ONLY good character in the entire series, I'm so glad she got her redemption in Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure
Kirsten Lutley I love Ashley Tisdale!
Kirsten Lutley- Good? You are ahead of yourself.
Sharpay has always been my favourite and I loved how she never gives up and remains a really awesome person throughout the franchise. :D
That’s a freaking roast
She did have flaws but also had passion. Like minus how rich she is she can be a person a real person
@@NameName-yj7lp that's the beauty. She feels real because she has flaws. Having a personality means that it has flaws and thats what the viewers adore most as well. The leads, Gabriella and troy just feel bland as they have no flaws no character.
She had a bad personality

"I'm only interested in what my friends think of me"(Zac Effron)
Yeah,I don't care about my well-being,or my education,or just myself in general,I ONLY CARE WHAT MY FRIENDS THINK OF ME,cause that's all that matters!
Yeah,I learned this life lesson when I was 5
I’m your 200th like😁❤️
He actually says " I'm more interested in what my friends think of me, and what I think of myself"
Wow with all of this information about Troy we could say that...
They were not all in this together.
Fenix I see what you did there that was very clever
We never were.
Fenix you should have so many likes for that.
Fenix when it feels comfortable with it's homosexuality.
GeekCollector 43 what does that mean
For some reason, I’ve come back to this video every time I’m bored and wanna watch something good. It’s just so entertaining.
Congrats on being the last #1 on trending for 2017 and the first for 2018!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOOOOOU
I knew that Sharpay wasn't the villain at all. Smh Troy never once called Gabriella his girlfriend so Sharpay always assumed he was free. He never made it official.
Petition to remake the series staring MatPat as Troy
Yes.
I’d sign that
@@harlanlamar3634 Buddy same

Yeah, I'd really go for that. A remake starring MattPad!!!
