  • "While midsize family sedan sales may be on a downward trend, they remain a very big part of the automotive landscape, and a highly contested one at that. Throw in the fact that brand loyalty is also no longer what it once was, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for Ford to make some serious four-door headway. Let’s find out if this new Fusion Sport will be their ticket to ride..."

    Usually when car makers tack "sport" onto the name of a family sedan or economy car, it just means some stripes and maybe bigger wheels at most. Ford actually meant it this time, though. Pretty impressive performance for such a common family car.

    A 13.9 quarter mile time at 99 mph is fairly pedestrian in the higher performance segment. But motorweek's times are always a little slower than say motor trend, and they tested it on regular gas whereas the 380 foot pounds of torque is specifically with 93 octane.
    Regardless, I bought one of these a few days ago, ( huge $7,000 rebate to start, and the selling price ended up being 72.2% of the MSRP) and I absolutely love it. There's so much torque you just don't care what gear your in, the car moves regardless. I like that deep torquey feeling more than I care about quarter mile times, but I'm guessing it is capable of more like 13.6 or .7 with the higher octane gas.

    I've never ridden in any muscle car or soorts car or anything. One time I hung out with my cousin and his friend, who had a blue Ford Fusion with the 2.7 Twin Turbo V6. I have never been thrown around so bad in my life, that thing was fucking fast. He ended up crashing it and totalling it, but I never forgot how that thing could get up and go.
    On top of that, any of those 2nd generation Fusions are great cars. My mom handed her 2014 Fusion down to my sister, who got in a serious head-on collision with a pickup truck. She had no problem getting out of the car, but the car caught on fire and burnt up, presumably because she had just filled it with gas. Other than the fire, that car may have saved her life. Just great reliable and safe cars

      Doesn't work. I lost 2 front tires on my Fusion Sport due to potholes. If you watch that segment closely and freeze frame when the tire impacts the edge of the pothole, you can see how much sidewall deflection there is. The 235/40R19 tires are woefully undersized for this 4120 lb sedan - the equivalent weight of a 1998-2002 Crown Victoria (which came with 225/60R16 tires). That ping pong ball clip came from Ford's own media release where they tested the car in the Ford Credit parking lot in Dearborn. My girlfriend worked there and said they filled that pothole with filler to decrease the depth of the pothole.

    I got t-boned at about 65 mph and sent spinning over a curb and back onto the lane of travel without flipping, in my 2010 Taurus SHO. I feel like I can trust the Taurus in an accident now. But I can't find a decent SHO with less than 50k miles and was thinking about getting this car instead. I'm not sure if this would be comparable or not.
    Also, the SHO was a great sleeper. There were only a few cars, mostly high-line European cars, that could even keep up with me on the highway.
    Curious if this car is worth looking at.

    That AWD transmission could handle a tuned down version of the 5.0L, like the one in F150. They could do a set up just like Volvo S80 AWD 4.4L v8

    I appreciate their attempts at making a quick family car, but let's take a look at the Taurus SHO for a second. The SHO is supposed to be their super sedan, but its horsepower (fair though it is) could be better given the competition. Now, if Ford straight up put the same engine from their new Ford GT in there - specs and all - that would be balling.

    Motor Week has been forever notorious for yielding poor 1/4 mile times. Car and driver got a 13.7 out of one and with a livernois tune these cars are seeing 12.9's. They aren't dropping a whole second from tune only. I bet these cars are realistically capable of a 13.4-5 bone stock.

      The 2.7 in the fusion sport is fairly more reliable than the 3.5 in the SHO. and they basically share the same performance. And the fusion sport has MUCH better suspension.

    It would be cool if Ford performance got their hands on the fusion
    Imagine what they could do with the fusion
    Maybe put that high output V6 that’s in the raptor and GT
    If it fits of course
    I think the fusion is a car that could compete with the bmw 3 series
    If they would simply focus it on that

      I bet the Mustang is more likely to live to see 200K miles than an overly boosted 6 cylinder that is so crammed in there, that it's a disassembly job just to change the headlight bulb. Displacement has it's advantages- more comfortable laying down the power over the years.

    They should have put this 2.7 V6 Ecoboost in the Mustang as the base model. Why Ford continues to offer a 4 cylinder and has over the years in the Mustang has always baffled me. Nobody buy's a Mustang for the gas mileage and the 2.7 V6 Ecoboost sounds better and has more Torque and narrows the gap in power when compared to the 5.0

    Turn dial transmission shift...how about a single Nintendo joystick to steer? That dial shift totally takes away any sport of this car no matter how many sport badges you put on it. I'll keep my 2013 or opt for another brand.

    • @mcallihan100
      @mcallihan100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From the articles at the time it is rumored that's what they were actually going to call it, but I'd say just because of how it's set up (cushy suspension and automatic only) is probably why they didn't. The Edge ST is basically the same car but an SUV and they called it an ST so idk.
      Maybe they didn't call it the Fusion ST because they were planning on axing the car anyway? I mean the Fusion Sport was only made from 2017-2019 and it's estimated they only produced about 30,000 units which isn't a lot when you compare that to the roughly 200,000 total fusions they were selling yearly at that time.

  • @metalsystem761
    @metalsystem761 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Imagine the 3.5 twin turbo awd in a coupe version of the fusion. Would prob end up being Americas GTR which would prob end up more better and popular than the mustang (don't take that too seriously also not counting the actual shelby). But that combo will never happen.
