    This car looks so good, it seems it will cannibalize mid-size sales. This Civic wasn't around when I bought my 15 Optima, but if it were, I definitely would have had it one my list to check out. Sounds weird, as I was looking for a mid-size, but this Civic looks just as good/big.

      @drinkingthatkool-aid3193 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the current "compact" Civic is probably the size of a 5-7 year old Accord.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mozzie Don't be upset, the Optima is a very good car, and one of the best looking sedans on the road regardless of price.

    • @mozillagenesis
      @mozillagenesis 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Driven Car Reviews Oh absolutely, the Optima is fantastic! I've owned it over a year and it's easily the best car I've ever owned. I don't regret it at all. I'm just saying the Civic (this generation) would have been included on my test drive list as well - I would have lumped it in with the mid-size sedans I was looking at.

    Nice review - got here from the Cruze review. The Honda seems like a better value and a little sportier, but the Cruze seems a bit more comfortable, nicer interior; might be a better commuter.

    My aunt bought a Gen 1 Civic ("72 maybe?) and when I first saw it, it was as revolutionary as this new one is now- tho for the opposite reason. That car was tiny, but purpose-built to be small and efficient, not cut-down from a big car like the Ford Pinto was. The quality of the engineering is what made it so unique.
    This new Civic- I can't even believe how large, luxurious, premium-looking and gorgeous it is. I especially like the more conservative interior styling and quality materials. And the exterior is razor-sharp.
    It just changes the game entirely. Just as the original did.

    I test drove this car immediately after test driving the CR-V and there was a noticeable delay when starting from a stop. It seemed that it was due to the new turbo (lag). I didn't like it. The CR-V, on the other hand, has an immediate response. I ended up buying the CR-V.

    While initially pleased, after 8 months of owning a 2016 Civic, I'm very disappointed. The mileage is very good and the front seats are quite comfortable, but I'm not too keen on the CVT (not at all fun too drive...unless you like golf carts), the lack of a volume knob and, in my opinion, it doesn't even come close to my 2007 Civic with regard to quality. In particular, I think they have a major issue with the floors. I invite anyone looking at purchasing a 2016 to compare the driver's side floor/kickboard with the passenger side first hand. The Honda rep said that the sinking floor is "characteristic of the 2016 Civic." (Guessing the new term for "design flaw" might be "characteristic.")
    Here's what mine looks like after 8 months and 6,500 miles:
    th-cam.com/video/qTu5xPI5h6A/w-d-xo.html
    Video, even without sound, speaks for itself. Think what it'll look like in 2-3 years. Do you want to sink $20K into a car if you are going to see this every time you get in it? And, if you do, don't even bother with the $155 high-walled mats as they'll most likely quickly deform like mine did.

    When I was a kid in the 80's we had '73 Honda Civic pre CVCC 3 door hatchback 1.3L and a 4 speed manual transmission, no air conditioning and vinyl seats. I was brown metallic with orange pin stripping, black plastic louvered diffuser on the rear window to cut down on the sun coming in the back if I recall. My parents sold sometime it in the mid 80's just because we had to many cars. It was a homely little brown shoe but it got good mileage and that was important during the 70's with the Opec Oil Embargo and the gas shortages that followed.

      if 19" is what the mots important for you, then yes... But, there is no turbo engine (only fuel sucking old motors), the best sound system you can get with touring accord is 350 - watt (450 watt in Civic), no wireless charging, no electronic parking brake, no brake hold button, no (Acura stile) LED headlights...
      Yes, the Accord is bigger and also it is higher class, maybe next year model will be nice and will have the technology the Civic has, but 2016 Accord is ages behind new CIvic.

    • @omgitsme435
      @omgitsme435 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No way.. The civic is a new gen and way newer or better tech. The rims are also just for show, they provide no functionality and probably make the ride worse. Sport doesn't even have leather or a digital center gauge screen. 2018 is the new gen accord, it should have all these civic features in the size you want. Hopefully they keep the V6 engine

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bad Drivers of Columbus, Georgia I think Focus is good car for handling but not quite on par with 3. And the ST is a specialty car, not mainstream (I enclosed the Si because I knew Honda guys would have screamed if I didn't).
      Those reference are for positioning, my reviews would be 20 minutes long if I got into every single car and listed the extreme enthusiasts details. I would focus on that stuff if these were targeted solely toward enthusiasts but I'm not. I'm trying to take the "big tent" approach with these videos, and not scare away those who aren't hard core motor heads. And most people tune out of videos after four minutes or so, it doesn't make much sense to make them extremely long. Alex on Autos does a great job doing that. It's not my thing.
      Hope this helps to clarify! TV

      Tom! Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as you did anything wrong. I love your reviews, even as an enthusiast. I just wasn't sure if you found this better than the Focus in terms of handling or not and was curious. I know the 3 is considered better in handling than the Focus, but I wasn't sure how it fared versus the new Civic. And I wouldn't have mentioned the ST, but since you mentioned the Si I just had to. :P Keep up the good work!

      Well, they listened. Going forward, Honda won't be using that design anymore. They are including a volume knob in the new CR-V and they're making a big deal about it. The touch screen and wheel controls are simply not as good as a easy fast reacting knob.

      Nathan Nan I own a 2016 Civic Ex-T and honestly the absence of a volume knob wouldn't make or break my purchase, but I still would prefer an actual knob over the touchscreen. But am happy to report I've never had problems with it

    You don't need a volume knob, the volume control on the steering wheel takes care of that. Cosmic Blue EX-L is the best deal.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the same. When I want to turn the volume down RIGHT NOW, nothing beats a rotary knob. Honda has finally admitted as such, it's new systems come with knobs.

    • @acoruna5421
      @acoruna5421 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Driven Car Reviews if you swipe the volume pad on the steering wheel it lowers alot or mutes the volume. Honda probably added the knob because of people like you complaining about a non-issue.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a lot of people complain about it (and according to Honda they did), it's an issue.

    I hate model bloat and I hate this car. The civic is supposed to be small, light, simple, and cheap. This is none of those things. If someone wanted a bigger car than a civic, the accord was always there. What's the point?
    *spoiler alert* I drive a 2001 civic

    • @s50201
      @s50201 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since a long-standing nameplate of good quality executions inevitably grows expectations, automakers are constantly under pressure to add luxury, more features, better performance all around, better packaging, etc. Really is inevitable that any long-standing model will appear to move up-class and up-market. Looking at prices relative to inflation however, prices of the civic have stayed flat. Really, it's just technology making things better.
      If you want simple & bare-bones, go for the stripped trim or the Fit.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +headcas620 These days, Fit has taken that slot in the Honda line up. Wouldn't surprise me if they added a sedan version at some point (though I don't believe there's on on the horizon).
