    Does anyone else think acura is a totally pointless brand now?

      +Kyle Counter but acura looks so much nicer

    • @Mrlolibre
      @Mrlolibre 9 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      People stay want to pay more for "brand prestige", especially in the United States. That's why the u.s. market is the only one where Acura(Honda),Infiniti(Nissan) and Lexus(Toyota) exist.

    • @isaacfox732
      @isaacfox732 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Mrlolibre Lexus and Infiniti also have a little more diversity.

    • @venichen1
      @venichen1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Mrlolibre Lexus is still a step above from Toyota and it's sold (nearly) worldwide.

    • @SI0AX
      @SI0AX 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +venichen1 Acura cars are just Honda clones with body kits. Same with Infinity. The G27 vs the 370z. Lexus has cars that Toyota would never include like the V8 engine.
      I think the AWD opitions on the Acura make it a bit more unique, but you can just put that on the Honda as options as well.

    They really upgraded the Civic for this generation, I don't see the point of buying a 2016 Accord with this baby around

    • @theredline
      @theredline  9 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      +Portishead Biscuit Well, the Accord is still a much larger car with more rear seat room and trunk space. You can also get a V6 engine in the Accord and overall, its still a more substantial and refined car. Trust us, there are still plenty of reasons why buyers would choose the Accord at the Honda dealership.

    Totally obliterates the Corolla and rest of the competitors except possibly the Mazda 3. I''ll have to wait to see the Type-R and see if Mazda releases a Mazdaspeed version to make up my mind.

    • @2Kriss2Kross
      @2Kriss2Kross 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MoN27E Depends what your priorities are. Space isn't a big priority of mine and I can't say anything about the Civic's interior because I haven't checked it out in person. The Mazda's interior has received rave reviews and I was impressed. Handling and dynamics are top priorities of mine and Mazda has a slight edge in that. Again, can't say anything until I check out the Civic.

      +Insanity Crow Toyotas have always been geared towards a softer ride. Same with Camry. Just the nature of the beast. That 12 year old engine is rather boring, but you'll never kill it.

    • @Ichibuns
      @Ichibuns 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Audioquest56 They had time to perfect the engine. I personally would never buy one but some people really do just want a comfortable point A to point B car that won't let them down. To those people it's hard not to recommend a Toyota

    I still don't understand the fascination with a soft touch dash Board.....unless you're going to sit on it or constantly touch it I see no big deal.

    • @rafaelrp07
      @rafaelrp07 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Ike n meek A soft touch can prevent noises inside the cabin after a time using the car, or when you're driving on a bumpy road (instead of hard plastic) or something like that.

    • @TheCobruhAlienat0r
      @TheCobruhAlienat0r 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Didimo Bautista Or crack! I've got an 02' Mitsubishi Galant and when I got it, it had a big crack down the middle. It has rattled to the point that a big chunk is missing and you can see the back side of the instrument cluster from the front of the car.

    • @AkioWasRight
      @AkioWasRight 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Give me a break. It's about perceived quality, nothing more. A good quality plastic dash will not rattle and actually last longer than any soft touch dash.

  • @ConstantineJoseph
    @ConstantineJoseph 9 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Turbos are the way to go. If it truly is 7.5 second then its close to the T4 engines of Volvo. Its really more upscale now and the torque feel, the engine power is what is most welcoming. The padded leather interior is also luxurious now and a sure competitor against European counterparts.

      I did not forget about the great Honda Mclaren era. They can and have the potential to compete with the very best. I hope with the Acura or Honda NSX 2 we will see the new Honda arrive with the baby NSX and replacement for s2000 and of course the awaited 2017 Honda Civic type R. Also hoping for an EURO R accord which are turbocharged accords.

    Woah are you serious? Two trims in the same video? Man, this is gold! This is a first! Thank you!
    And speaking of which, this is a generation that I would actually consider buying, especially the 6 speed manual, even if it has less power. I actually prefer the lower trim because of its more analogue features such as obviously, the stick shift but also the tachometer which has a real needle to it.
    Honestly, you guys are moving up in the world, to think that you be not only the one of the first to review it, but you're actually driving them, that's right, both trim level!

    Stoooop with the all chrome door handles, car designers! And they needed to break up that big piece of silver in the front grille, in my opinion.

    • @blahber222
      @blahber222 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Even though I'm only a car designer student, I think the full chrome covering the grill looks pretty good. The door handles and the grill chrome section would probably have a darker finish for the Si and Type R versions. You also need to understand that Honda is trying to target a larger audience with their new design language.

It's such a broad field, like there's many aspects of car design that you can focus on such as just exterior design, interior design, or clay modeling. Shouldn't you be watching 2001 Honda Civic videos then? I had one of those 5 months ago until it got hit badly. Now I'm in a 2015 Civic Si and it's my second new car following the one I had for the last 14. The tech and convenience in my new car has me kicking myself for not upgrading sooner, Honda vehicles have the knack to make you drive them forever. Cars are not JUST cars anymore.

      no they're not. There is so much connectivity and more implemented systems to assist driving from 15+ years ago. If you really feel like cars are strictly for bare bones transportation, then you might as well be better off taking public transportation like the bus.

    The way "The Year of The Honda" is laid out, I wouldn't be surprised to see Acura go away. They don't move enough units to stay very profitable. Like he said in the video a couple of times, "ILX is pretty much obsolete"... I mean who would have thought a Honda Civic would ever even HAVE a dynamic cruise option?? That should be left for Acura; A clear sign I feel they'll retire the brand soon.

    Stupid Honda ! Make a fucking 200 hp 2.0 L.
    1.5 L T with 175HP will always be a joke. You can't even make HP too much more when you start with 1.5L.
    Plus the 2.0 L version is such a low detuned 158Hp... What the hell you gonna do with that?

    • @TheDustyaman

    Just bought a fully loaded HR-V EX-L with Navi back in July as a daily commuter and small family car. Lovely little CUV, though I'm admittedly not generally well-receiving of Japanese vehicles. I've been satisfied, but this little Civic does look very promising too.
    I keep telling myself I don't need another new car, but boy is it tempting to replace my old 2000 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro with a Civic Touring like this. As a guy that absolutely loves German cars and classic Euro and American cars, for me to potentially consider giving up an Audi for a Japanese sedan is pretty impressive. Good job on Honda's part, but it's strange how much more interesting the new Civic is compared to their (technically) more upscale Acura ILX.
    Anyone else thing the new Civic will render the ILX nearly obsolete? Less expensive, very premium and still fairly affordable.

    I am about to turn in the lease on my 13 civic. Though, with this newly offered transmission, I want to vomit hearing that CVT change "gears". Turbo + cvt = no good. The WRX received some awful reviews with that configuration. You'd think Honda would give it a proper transmission. I'd expect this with a Nissan, but Honda is a more sophisticated and quality brand, which is why one could be easily disappointed in this newly turbocharged Civic. At least the lower tier 2.0 liter Civic gets the manual, which is totally backwards thinking IMO.

      +What is Bitcoin? The CVT is good if you are accelerating normally. But I just can't stand it when you punch it, the sound is so annoying before there is shift sound. CVT is really the only big downside of this car, then the rear end of the car could've been better. Not loving it, but I can accept it. And there is no CD player anymore :(

  • @greenjack333
    @greenjack333 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    sad Honda didn't bring the 1.6L D-tec Diesel engine over to the North American market. I'm Canadian and moved overseas for a bit and bought a 2017 civic hatchback in Europe with that diesel engine and was so surprised how fuel efficient and powerful that engine was. It averaged 4.5L/100km (52mpg) mixed driving. Amazing fuel sipping engine.
