      so right! I'm a Maxima 6 cylinder kind of guy. Saw the car on Honda's website. Came test driving it and made the purchase the next day. Loving it. One problem though: where the hell is the partial tinted sun visor on the windshield? Don't most car has it nowadays?

    I think the new front makes it look like an Accord. And now it is nearly as big as an Accord... Save $4500 and buy a Civic.

    Absolutely love my 2016 Civic. 6 speed manual. Never had any problems with it at 120,000 miles. Only had to replace brakes and a wheel bearing which is normal driving in NY with winters. I put new summer wheels on it and it looks very sharp Plan on driving it into the ground!

    Dear Roman. Nurburgring got every type of surface from good quality to poor, got potholes, shaky parts, aggressive kerbs, long straights, oval, steep, curvy corners where you can test everything like engine power, comfort, noise insulation, grip, brakes etc. (That was a loooong sentence)That is the point testing there Roman.

    • @TFLcar
      @TFLcar  8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +TRL Z Thanks for the comment but does the Nurburgring have 1000 miles of dead straight highway? Roman asks because that's what we have in America. He adds that he's tired of Nurburgring derived cars that do not translate to American highways. It took the Germans forever to add cupholders to their cars...that's simply because only in America can you drive 1000 miles from Denver to Phoenix and make only two turns. For that sort of highway you need cupholders and comfortable sedans....not race cars brought to the road.

    Just bought one. My previous (and still owned but being renovated) vehicle is an Acura Integra Type R. So just about everything on the market is "soft".
    Well, the Civic is *NICE*. Lots of legroom and trunk space. The rear styling... nothing can be stated that will change the fact that it needs help.
    It has decent power - especially at fwy speeds. Fuel economy has been great (still breaking the engine in so lots of SHORT WOT applications to seat the rings in between very sedate fuel economy runs.
    It handles well, surprisingly and it's easily as quick as a Civic Si but I would not run it hard like that. It's a "grocery getter" and a 10 year proposition for me.
    Wish List
    1.8L turbo, 200 bhp with whatever accompanying increase in torque; larger brakes, sport seats, Momo wheel - in short an even sportier grocery getter.
    Five Star Car.

    • @syenosis
      @syenosis 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +cjk247 right now the Honda version is actually nicer in a lot of ways because of all the upgrades. The only thing where the ILX is still clearly better than the Civic would be the sound system because the ELS upgrade available in the ILX is a very nice sound system but otherwise there's little reason to buy an ILX over something like a Civic EXL or Touring especially since it's about $9K cheaper than the equivalent ILX.

    • @MrRdoc94
      @MrRdoc94 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cjk247 I understand but that would get you a low to mid range Acura ILX and you'd be sacrificing a ton of features and technology, as well as efficiency, simply for the badge that's on the hood.

    Excellent review. The previous model was too low to sit upright (anyone over 6' would have to recline the seat somewhat to avoid hitting the ceiling with your head). Same true for the Carolla. This model seems somewhat bigger but suspect it might still be short. PS would probably avoid the car because of the CVT.

    You guys missed two things:
    1 - The hood has two open positions, one normal and one higher for when you want to get to the back of the engine.
    2 - Capless fuel filler - You just stick the nozzle in. Gotcha is that if you are using gas from a portable container you need to use the filler nozzle that can be found in the spare tire tool holder. Also the filler door locks when the car locks. You have to have the car unlocked to get in.
    You didn't cover Honda Sensing at all, but I assume that's because you are focusing more on the characteristics common to all trims.

    Been looking for a replacement for my 2003 VW Golf TDI and this is probably the one I am going to get if my finances hold up. My Golf has been the most reliable, long-term car I have owned with almost 200,000 miles on it still on the original clutch although I have replaced normal wear items along the way. I want another car I can be happy with for 10+ years, that is has decent power and fuel economy along with reliability. After considering an Accord I find the Civic to have all of the features I need and IMO better styling. I think Honda did a great job with this although I would prefer having a hatchback model option as I enjoy that style of vehicle more than a sedan.

    I really like what I'm hearing about this car. I currently drive a 2014 Mazda 3. It's really fun to drive but the road noise is sometimes unbearable. If this new Civic is as refined as they're saying it is, including driving pretty sporty, then I might have to trade up for it.

    Everything you need to know about Honda. Due to computer error the electronic brake on my 2016 Civic engaged while I was driving the car. The Honda service department technicians said they didn't do anything that addressed/corrected the problem. Honda customer service said the brake problem was fixed and refused to compensate me for my losses from trading the Civic for a 2017 Accord without the electronic parking brake. The only way to get rid of the problem was get rid of the Civic. I wonder if the same engineers designed the 737s

    Looks like Honda did a really great job here, but I understand that even on the Touring trim level there is no adjustment for the driver's lumbar support. To me this seems unfortunate for a car that had so much effort put into it. For me, I need a lumbar adjustment. How much cost could possibly be added to have even a manual adjustment?

    Honda Pro Jason: By putting notches on the steering wheel at 10 and 2, Honda is inviting drivers to put their hands there. From what I've read lately, this is no longer the preferred hand position. Hands should be at 9 and 3 or lower so that they are safely out of the way of the airbag when it deploys, to avoid an injury such as getting smacked in the face by one's own hand. I'm wondering if Honda thought of this, (maybe it's not true) especially in light of the whole Takata scandal. That issue aside, I'm pretty excited about this car and will probably buy it.

    That's not a Touring model, it's an EX-L. That red one in the video doesn't have the LED headlights, rain sensing wipers or the heated rear seats, which only come in the Touring. That particular Civic also didn't have the Honda Sensing package either. So no ACC, or LKAS, CMBS, LDW, FCW, or RDMS.

    Deciding elantra sr turbo and civic (RS In Australia but I think model below touring model in US?) How do they compare which do you reccommend? Civic feels a bit more premium inside compared to elentra. I think Civic design is better. More aggressive and sporty and stands out. Elantra is more conservative looking. Inside of elantra is more minimalistic and more straight forward to use. Elantra has 1.6 turbo with 7spd dct compared to civics 1.5 turbo CVT. They're pretty close for me but edging towards Honda.

    Roman, your reviews are really down to earth and spot on, but couldn't help to notice that you were very settled in this one!?! Would it be because the driver was a Honda Company Representative, who was very strong on the "Smart ass" side of positively marketing his product !?!? WTF !!! It felt like as if you are at a car dealer and the sales man pushes and argues with you what you are going to like and not what you actually want in the car! For example, when you mentioned the radio volume knob, he starts arguing that it will not look aesthetic and it will be out of place.., while there are those huge A/C knobs?! A beautiful Radio knob would have been perfect and more safely to handle than a touch screen that will take your attention away from the road. If pleasing aesthetics were to be considered, It would have been more aesthetically pleasing to see the A/C unit being touch screen as well as the radio. And why was he bragging about the weird steering volume pad, what an eye sore!
    Please keep up the good reviews and don't make reviews with company reps present, who are trying to overrate the product, as if the public has to learn to like it because we do not know what we like, it is painful to watch!!!

    No one wants a touch sensitive volume slider. Not on the dash and especially not on the steering wheel. That was a really dumb move.

    Honda drivers need not feel a lesser driver when parking beside an European baseline luxury car anymore. Honda used to boast that unique performance and luxury but recently they went off course for 8 years. They're back now

    Dear Honda: I LOVE the new 1.5 boosted engine! 42mpg highway and 170+ HP. Sounds like a true winner of an engine. However, when I read that a manual transmission is not available, I'm immediately not interested. Not gonna buy a CVT, sorry.

    Here's the thing with me and Civics. I'm not a fan when it comes to them. Never had and never will. However I'm slowly starting to like the Civic because of this new design look. Sure in my eyes it doesn't look appealing compared to other cars (i.e. Corolla) but if I compared it to the other generations, I would say this is far by the best one in terms of interior and exterior. The great side about this generation is that it has a completely new look and it doesn't have the same old Civic look back in 2000. If I was a Civic or Honda fan, I would definitely choose this car due to EPA, horsepower, space, good reputation, and reliability. The only thing that would turn me down from this new design look is the back of the car. The back or the trunk looks a little bit like a hatchback car. In my opinion, hatchbacks doesn't fit with me. My first car was a sedan (still driving it today). Considering that my first car was a sedan, I've always love sedan cars rather it was a mid-sized, compact, or a subcompact, I just love sedans. One of the reasons why the Civic would be the right choice for me is because it's a sedan car and what makes it even better is that it's a compact car. It's not mid-sized or a subcompact car where the size of the car would be too big or too small for me (my opinion I will never get any subcompact, mid-sized well I may have second thoughts).
    That's one thing that the Civic had or maybe it still has a sedan look. After all it is still classified as a sedan car. I just think it has a tiny hatchback design touch. That's the only thing that would turn me down if I had to get a Honda, but other than that I wouldn't have any other reason to get this car. I would have to say this is the best Civic that Honda has made. The generations that I still dislike are the 7th and 8th. Never liked them in any way and that's why I am not a Civic fan. The 9th generation was ok but it was more like a gentle car. I think the 10th will be great for Honda and I hope this generation does great things for them compared to the others.
