- After the dreadful and unintentional conclusion in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation the franchise in live action lay dormant for nearly 20 years. That is until the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. Aiming to be a gritty reboot of the franchise as a web series it reintroduces the characters of Sub Zero, Scorpion, Jax, Sonya, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage and others but it's world but also absolutely not. There it is. You can usually tell by the language itself. Japanese has a more staccato phoneticism (hanzo hasashi, shirai ryu) and Chinese is much legato in its phonetics (kuai liang, lin kuei).

I like how in the first season, they said Johnny Cage got his career start on Power Rangers, and then in the second season they got an actual Power Ranger playing Kenshi.
I will never forget the audacity of this series having the subzero of the first season simply wearing a bike suit as his costume I was just shocked at the lack of creativity there.
Seeing Jenny Nicholson in a Mortal Kombat review is a weird bingo card moment.
We're gonna need more Kontent since James and Maso have yet to acknowledge Techno Syndrome as the greatest song ever.
The film was even delayed by a week but they didn't take the hint.

The editing of this video is next level. I enjoy the podcast when at work, but these videos are transcendent!

Even though I haven't watched any Rooster Teeth content in quite a few years at this point, it still put a big smile on my face to hear James and Maso say the name of the company :')
They're still making content, though obviously Covid has limited them recently. I enjoy some of their videos, but sadly Red vs Blue went down the toilet after season 14.
@@ThreadBomb Yeah I respect them plenty and will always hold them near and dear to my heart, but RvB has gone massively downhill and I'm not really into Rwby or any of the other shows, and Achievement Hunter and Funhaus both had their glorious time in the sun but faded out of my interest eventually.

Rebirth was a short film as a way to pitch a concept to make a movie, but only got to do the web series.
And they managed to do it better with a 15 minute video as opposed to a whole movie.

Here's my theory: Mortal Kombat Legacy S3 will appear in its entirety sometime in the middle of Space Jam 2. Ya know, cuz WB needs to milk all the content they have to make people interested and it would be a shame to keep so much unused footage in the vault.

Apparently The Miz (of Angry Miz Girl fame as featured in this video) lobbied pretty hard to play Johnny Cage in the new movie. I think he'd have been perfect, especially as he has IRL starred in many terrible action movies himself.

Right after the “Get Over Here” section, I got 5 second ad for the new movie, where Scorpion said get over here and I thought it was part of the video lol.
I was always really sad they recast Matt Mullens at Johnny Cage. Like, he wasn't exactly the spitting image of Johnny Cage from the game, but I've always liked that guy ever since I saw the Xtreme Martial Arts documentary on the Discovery channel. It was super cool for little kid me, and everybody featured in it were fantastic martial artists.
*I have missed Ben's videos!* I don't mean to disparage anyone else's work, but IMO they are just not as funny unless *Ben* is editing.
When he edits a video _it matches the boys' humor perfectly._ He has the talent and clearly puts in the work to make them memorable.

Growing up watching Daniel Southworth as the Quantum Ranger in 'Power Rangers: Time Force' then him as one of my favorite MK characters was amazing for me.
This is an interesting case, because in 2011 neither web series nor streaming platforms were really major things yet, so it got stuck in a kind of no man's land. I'm sure at the time it seemed as though the medium they went for had a lot of potential, but ten years on, it just looks like another fan production in terms of quality.
Even back when it first came out, it felt like a fan production. Just a high quality fan production. They didn't put a lot of money into it (for an official thing)

The cast of this show was like a dream come true. Just all martial arts dream castings. Michael Jai White, Darren Shahlavi (Kano, also RIP), Matt Mullins, Dan Southworth, Eric Jacobus, Mark Dacascos, Brian Tee, Ian Anthony Dale. SO GOOD!
Happy to be getting the new movie but this cast was just perfect from an action perspective. Eric Jacobus has an incredible channel of short films and is now the mocap for Kratos.
I love how Collins keeps adding anime bits to his edits, mainly as James has requested he does this as the worlds biggest anime fan.

having watched this on TH-cam's original release way back when, for the time, I really enjoyed the quality all things considered. I think it was ultimately trying to copy the success of the street fighter: assassins fist web series. MK:L didn't quite reach that benchmark for me but decent effort for the time, budget and platform it had to work with. Bonus points for casting Johnny Rico as Johnny Cage though, also I liked how well Skrillex's "Reptile" worked with the cyber ninjas fight scene.

You can actually find the episodes online still on TH-cam. They're under a Warner Bros. Channel called beyond the lot. You can type in search beyond the lot mortal kombat legacy and it'll pop up.

I look at this more as a collection of short films based within the MK universe. It doesn't need to lead anywhere, because the fans know the lore. Even if other people don't, it's fun to watch, and what it did for TH-cam at the time was huge.
I really liked the rebirth trailer. I liked the redesign of Reptile being human I also really enjoyed the inclusion of sektor and cyrax and kenshi. Really enjoyed the johnny cage episode. That's about it. Legacy was really fun when I was a kid.

Saw Casper Van Dien at Comic Con Prague and he was amazingly entertaining. Most guests had their panels as regular Q&A but he mad it his own talk show. Very funny and self-aware of his career.

I actually really enjoyed the Raiden episode of the first season. Such an interesting take on some time when Raiden came to Earthrealm and just had to deal with a bunch of bullshit because he landed in the wrong place. The Lin Kuei episode was great purely for the fight at the end, and Liu Kang in the second season is so cool. Imagine the VICTOR of the last tournament, champion of Earthrealm being on the bad guy's side. I found myself liking Season 1 more, but maybe I should give Season 2 a look over again, especially because I fully appreciate Dan Southworth now.
Anyone else catch in that Double Dragon clip, the glass prematurely cracking before Scott Wolf hits it? Quality.

I liked this series when it came out. It is lower budget and has its own problems but it was at least felt like a genuine attempt to give MK fans redemption of live action in the series. I thought the flash animation was better than doing terrible cgi and still gave us a good narrative.

The way i describe legacy is,it's mortal kombat trying to be mortal kombat while also not being mortal kombat.
Cause there's alot of lore and stuff that's right. But then you watch it and you're like "what?"
Fun bit of Trivia: in MK11, they decided to have the characters portrayed by actors of the same heritage, which lead to Sub-Zero canonically becoming Chinese-American so Steven Blum could continue doing the voice

Legacy was cool, I liked how they showed the Lin Kuei and the subzero scorpion feud. Hopefully when I watch the movie today it will be at least somewhat faithful like legacy was. On a different note the power ranger short which was also shown a little was amazing too
