If you actually watch the show, the women are just as badass and equal to the men and they do have a woman on the team…a few, actually, as the show moves forward. Each gender on the show treats each other equally. You wanna see some great fight scenes? As the characters get established and the storyline moves forward, the women throw down in this show…each of them do and they are some of the best female fight scenes I’ve seen on tv. It’s one of the few examples where this is the case in tv/cinema.
To this day, I still look fondly back at Smallville. I've seen the entire series 3 times over now, and have embraced their story choices and design choices, which weren't great. I was 13 when this aired, so I was completely blind to the company details behind certain choices, like, why Impulse, "when's Batman?", "why didn't Martian Munhunter join them?" he first appeared 3 episodes ago, and "why Cyborg, why isn't he with the Titans?" Finding most of those answers years later proved that this show was a miracle with those restrictions. ( Cyborg being yhere seemed like a Geoff Johns idea, it's why he was promoted to founding member in so many incarnations now. Also, Michael Rosenbalm, the best on screen Lex)
I honestly think the first 3 seasons were good; not any individual episode necessarily, but as a whole, the first 3 seasons hold up well enough. But then the show was successful, they kept going instead of wrapping up the story in 4 seasons, so they just spun their wheels for, what, 5 more seasons? I think the 4th season actually had a lot of fun episodes, but the 5th season really started to show the cracks. What they SHOULD have done was lift the "no tights, no flights" restriction once the show got picked up for more and more seasons. I think the problems with the show are largely a result of keeping those restrictions that could've worked for 4 seasons or so, but not 8. (Or however many it was; I think 8 but I'm not going to look it up.) I mean, there were other problems, of course, but for its time, it was fine except for stubbornly sticking to the original conceit despite doubling the show's length.

Lois dresses up in a Wonder Woman costume in an episode, and I'm fairly certain they even say that's who she's dressed as. That just complicates the lore even more, with costumes and characters.
Maybe I'm dumb but I love the costume design in this series. Yes it looks cheap but I just love how cheesy they look
I loved them
I actually prefer Ollie's suit in Smallville rather than the usual tacticool shit they used in Arrow.
@@shinyanakagawa8241 it is so much more fun in Smallville and makes sense given his personality
You call your self dumb for liking something dont do that
I just want to give my gratitude to whoever keeps putting Bionicle references in these things. It's only appreciated by people of my specific age.
Mah man Pohatu getting exposure
@@anthonyvillanueva5226 Nobody doesn't like Pohatu, but Kopaka is the MVP.
As long as it's not maskposting perverts making bonk references, I'm happy
Still glad Tom came back 8 years later to close of his Superman story in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
He. Still. Didn't. Put. On. The. Fucking. Suit. It's all I wanted.
@@li-limandragon9287
No, but dude had one of the best Superman v Luther moments in Live Action we've had.
@@namegoeshere5220 Yeah Jon Cryer is great, but Tom still didn’t put on the goddamn suit.
Holy shit Ben with the Bionicle footage what a legend
And my boi Pohatu, too. PO-KORO REPRESENT!
Came to the comments looking for someone else saying it
Omg the episode where lex is split into two characters and finds out about clarks secret abilities is the best episode of the series
As a fan of Smallville. I'd love for you to cover Absolute Justice
Same
Anybody else lip screaming when the Smallville theme blasts for that split second?
It's hard liking the costumes in smallville after seeing the arrowverse costumes and the other dc shows costumes.
True, but the Dr. Fate costume in this show looks pretty good.
@Giovanni Messe s5 & 8 were good
@Giovanni Messe arrow went to shit the moment he stopped killing
@Giovanni Messe True
Every week Clark would rip open a door and there would be Kryptonite behind it. In the vein of stumbling into it in this episode. You’d think a guy would get wise to that...
sometimes I wonder how clark isn't having a kryptonite seizure every time he steps out of his barn.
I remember seeing this episode and at the end when the League are leaving, Chloe says "Wow Clark, you have some amazing friends" and Clark just says "yeah". I was screaming at the screen "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SAY 'YEAH, SUPER'"
i think they didnt do it on purpose
I remember being SO hyped for this episode. And that 'slo-mo as they walked away from an explosion' shot is *chef's kiss*
I wonder what Lee Thompson would have been if he were still alive? He was a really good actor
I really lament the loss of a talent like Lee Thompson. He was an early childhood hero of mine from his Famous Jett Jackson days.
I thought Lee Thompson was great as Cyborg and great in general, and I've often wished he had been chosen for the roll of Pete Ross.
Just wanted to say I’m only 4:00 minutes in and the editing is already genuinely funny. Good job Ben!
I’m always down for more Smallville. You should watch every season premiere and finale and then do a video on that.
I watched smallville first time in 2016 after watchin Arrowverse ,I still think Smallville is still the best superhero DC show ever made. Acting ,Script ,Music ,even the 10 year old graphics everything blend superbly in one show
Lol I was so amazed back in the day when cyborg was running through the corridor and just bodychecks the guy in slow motion with a shockwave going through the air
You should do the JSA episode its a good set up for the lore of the smallville universe
I reckon Absolute Justice is a pretty good one. I'd love to see you guys come back to do more Smallville.
They have finally come full circle. Back to their roots of SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAVE MEEEEE!
Yes, please cover Absolute Justice! It's one of my favourite Smallville episodes and a beautiful love letter to the Justice Society.
it was a better justice league movie/tv episode than justice league of america.
Sat down from work to have lunch and saw you posted this. Perfect timing you beautiful man.
Back when this came out this was all we had...
... And we loved it.
Blimey, so happy you're covering the TRUE Justice League from the hit TV show "Maclunkeyville: Superman's Young and Super in This One"
Maybe the real Maclunky was the justice we leagued along the ville
5:02 looking back at it now, I'm pretty sure his neo-esque suit was meant to be their interpretation of his black solar suit, considering the fact that he fought Doomsday in the season before just like in the comics.
MORE SMALLVILLE PLEASE! Do the Justice Society of America and maybe even an episode on the last episode or two of the series! Pretty please?
The first few seasons are really great. No better live action Lex till date
I loved Smallville growing up
Still got a crush on young Tom Welling
I really really wish they would have used Mason’s audio of “SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAAAAVE ME” from one of the first episodes of WP before they had a theme song.
The FIRST!
I love the idea of a speedster wearing a hood. Sooo aerodynamic!
Thank god they are colour coded. I legit couldn't tell aquaman guy and Oliver apart
I'll always thank this show for introducing me to Sam Witwer
You should definitely cover absolute Justice from Smallville. Not only its the best arc of the series but also it gives similar vibes to the current arrowverse.
it was great. Practically a movie.
This show was phenomenal, grew up with it and will always love it
Silver Age Barry's your guy for a speedster who's really laid back
I haven't seen this series in years. I recall it being pretty good but I'll have to rewatch it.
I'll always appreciate the way they did Doomsday for this show
Looked a ton better than the BvS Doomsday.
It did.
@@the_scotch Big Toothy Tadpole
@@the_scotch I know right, and even Krypton did better than BvS. I like the film but they did a disservice to Doomsday.
@@anubusx I heard good things about Krypton’s Doomsday but Smallville managed to pull it off with practical effects. And praise to Sam Witwer for the part he played in telling that story.
"A speedster who's really laid back..." So, Usain Bolt, then?
Ha! Nice!
Yes it was super cheesy at times but I still love the series. It's just so comfy. Erica Durance and Michael Rosenbaum are the best Lois and Lex of all imo.
"Comfy" is a great word to describe Smallville, I just realized that now. Nice!
Comfy , cozy and oddly relaxing. I don't know if it's the show itself or that most of us have our nostalgia glasses on where we remember days that we had less worries. But then again i faintly remember the show watching it on tv when i was young in the late 2010s, so maybe the show has these comfy vibes on its own because of the small town setting. Wow i started rumbling again nostalgia can be a bitch sometimes. Cheers
@@redhairedshanks5845 I actually think that a lot of the comfyness comes from the fact that alot of the show is set during the day. Compared to stuff like the modern CW DC shows that mostly seem to be at night. Plus the way they lit the show gave everything this soap opera-esc glow that just makes it feel warm.
@@Sulufy Nah Margot Kidder is the definitive Lois and Clancy Brown from the DCAU is the best version of Lex (most comic accurate too).
@@Sulufy yeah it also has this sunset orange sometimes that is also present in my childhood favourite movies the Spider-Man sam raimi trilogy. I don't know if you get what i mean but it's this orange warm colour present idk if it was the cameras or some filter.
"No tights no flights" always sounded conditional to me. No tights no flights until he's actively being Superman. But the show ran long enough that he was basically Superman for the last few seasons. And by then it felt like "no tights no flights" wasn't a story device anymore, it was just an awkward barrier to write around.
RIP to the Famous Jett Jackson. Sad the show got no mention.
This is my all time favorite show and I’m so happy you made this video ❤️
Same bro
Surprised Allison Mack’s craziness wasn’t mentioned
Cuz it’s not important, a show like this shouldn’t have to be dragged down by real world stuff
@@ninjanibba4259 Still hard to look at Chloe the same way now.
@@li-limandragon9287 separation my guy
Separate
@@ninjanibba4259 Thing is though I didn’t like Smallville that much anyway.
I speak for reality itself when I say, yes review Absolute Justice. Rock kicking video optional.
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum will always be the definitive Clark and Lex for me.

The new Superman and Lois show feels like a proper more mature continuation of Smallville and I like it.
it does!
I spent all 10 years of Smallville's run watching alongside my father, so the series holds a special place for me.
Also, please do the Justice Society episode.
The show started a month after I was born and my dad would hold me while watching it, so I quite literally grew up with this show
Superman with no mention of bad bloke Brando? Smallville with no mention of terrible person Allison Mack?
Are you guys going soft?
Work, I should be at work? What, surely not whilst this is on?
What awesome timing. I’m rewatching Smallville right now also
I grew up watching this, would even record it and watch it with the homie the next day after school. But yeah Smallville will always be in my heart lol.
I've never been this early!
SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAAAAVE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Still better than Rob Schneider’s Justice League.
Oh my god, the bionicle clip from those little cds that came in the tubes.
I’m glad you guys made this. I’ve been rewatching Smallville throughout the whole pandemic and have been loving every seconds. Gun finger snaps your way.
I loved Smallville so much, corny moments and all, it’s just fun. So please, please do the JSA episode.
