@@carstenweizer yeah but idk somehow people flying around and punching each other is less silly than cars dropping out of a plane at a thousand feet or a bunch of cars going against a fucking submarine
@@carstenweizer I think it's just suspension of disbelief. In comic book films, if a normal person did the shit that happens in the average Fast and Furious film, they'd be dead. The universe justifies the over-the-top aspects like magic, gods and aliens within its own internal logic.
I've always been a believer in the fact that a movie, or series of movies, should always follow the rules they establish for their universe. If a movie series starts out as being grounded with realistic people in life-or-death situations that are relatable, then every subsequent movie should do that. But if you start out realistic, and then suddenly everyone turns into a superhero with no in-universe explanation, then it just becomes silliness for silliness sake. That's the difference between the Marvel Universe and something like the Fast and Furious Universe. Marvel has always been a universe of superheroes and the MCU has always followed its own internal rules. Everything that happens in the MCU, you understand because of the rules that were set up in the subsequent films. In Fast & Furious, Dominic Toretto goes from being a street racer who steals merchandise to make money for his side business to being a James Bond level International super-spy that the NSA calls onto do super stuff. And Hobbs and Shaw completely jumped the shark and put in a literal supervillain with superpowers. It just makes no sense. That's why I've always liked the first FF movie and not the follow-ups. It just got kind of ridiculous for no reason.
@@samueltheprideofafrikarobi9319 It was unrealistic from the start like, a car blowing up in blue flames because of nos, in 2 fast 2 furious the bridge scene with the skyline yea a jump like can and indeed mess up your front bumper, side skirts and your back bumper, craig lieberman explained that in a video.A car jumping on to boat, you can't just get a bruised eye brow and a broken arm from that. When it comes to street racing it was never about it.Sure theres race wars and street races but it wasn't the main plot of the movie it was the subplot. The main plot is brian O' conner is working undercover to bring dom custody but doing so he learns from dom and about dom's past, his code and about family. The spin-off Hobbs and shaw nobody wanted it to happen, that's why tyrese and dwayne were beefing with each other and it's the reason why dwayne johnson isn't in fast 9.Tyrese stated that if dwayne johnson's in the next installment he won't be in it.Now when they are in development for the next installment their main goal is to top the last movie when it comes to the action. people think's it's stupid when really their just trying to keep people entertained because believe it or not the 2nd and 3rd installment it didn't catch peoples attention. Also if you go the box office reviews tokyo drift is the lowest of them all, in fact justlin lin himself said that he had struggles with tokyo drift including getting peoples attention. When justlin lin decided to make a fourth installment he wanted to renew the franchise.
People always talk about how unrealistic the fast and furious movies have gotten. The real unresisting is that Dunn is gonna be able to provide for a family, have a garage, have tools and equipment for these cars, be able to supe up these cars run a diner and pay a mortgage for a house.
It goes off the rails and then lands on another set of rails that do crazy Dr. Seuss loops. They're honestly great if you just have fun with them and don't try to pick them apart as films.
LMAO the race wars part where they were so shocked at the name didnt click with me. For some reason I was only thinking about car racing and not race-race. So I was like well what else are they supposed to call it why is that bad?.... then it dawned on me and I couldnt stop laughing about how I completely missed that since I saw this in theaters as a kid in 2001.
I love how they say that as a reference of what happens when it's revealed who kills Han in Tokyo drift as opposed to it being a random car that just collides lol
As someone who was in high school in the US (in Detroit, no less) in 2001, I can say that this franchise is still around because teenagers were OBSESSED with this movie. Everybody was tricking their cars out with those stupid spoilers and lights even before this movie came out, and it just got worse after.
The thing I remember most about this movie is that the house that the cops work out of no longer exists, and was a cool as shit house. It was a house that was in a bunch of movies, and definitely should have been saved, and I’m still sad that it is gone

This film was revolutionary. At the time of production the import tuner scene was at a frenzied high and every 12-18 year old wanted to be part of that culture. The best aspects of the film were pulled straight from modified mag, super street, and many more. What really helped this franchise was a tight script with little fat and exposition. Quick and easy to digest dialogue helped with pacing. This film is definitely a classic and a lot of what this movie got right has since been forgotten by the rest of the franchise.
Apparently Corona has never given ‘The Fast & The Furious’ franchise a cent in advertisement money. Vin Diesel just really likes Corona. They may have provided free Corona here and there but, they were already getting so much free advertising that they saw no need for an official sponsorship deal.
Cant wait to hear the reference that Tyrese Gibson based his eating habits in the movie after Brad Pitt in those ok at best Ocean’s movies. Also they realize he used to go by just “Tyrese”
I had just finished high school when this came out and living in southern California. This movie was huge there, it tapped into the whole street racing culture of the west coast.
I was in high school in the Midwest when this movie came out, and it was huge there, too. It was huge with teenagers everywhere, because teenagers everywhere were already doing this shit (just on a smaller scale in most places).

Really? I’d be the opposite tbh, don’t get me wrong, 1-4 have a special place on my heart but I wouldn’t consider them good movies by most metrics, and 2-3 have aged terrible in many ways, with 5 onwards they becomes really fun heist movies which, while dumb, are as fun as it can get.

Omg that part about Dom’s dong had me dying
Same
I'll do u one better
Dom's dog
Ye, it sucks
James and Maso start naming the Fast and Furious sequels with race wars titles
Weekly Planet Posters: *visibly anxious*
Lololol
People always talk about how unrealistic the fast and furious movies have gotten. The real unresisting is that Dunn is gonna be able to provide for a family, have a garage, have tools and equipment for these cars, be able to supe up these cars run a diner and pay a mortgage for a house.
Maybe the real family was the family we made along the way
Yo dawg, we heard you like family so we got your family a family so you can family while you family. Family.
Maybe the real family were the engines we put on the roof along the way
Really makes u think
Corona
I thought the principal cast member on Saved by the Bell was Dennis Haskins.
Aaah yes, 1 Fast 1 Furious, a thrilling tale about stolen DVD players, I’m sure this franchise will never go off the rails.
That’s the correct number of fasts and furiouses.
It goes off the rails and then lands on another set of rails that do crazy Dr. Seuss loops. They're honestly great if you just have fun with them and don't try to pick them apart as films.
Them sweet tv and dvd combos
@@saintniccage2818 Worth their weight in gold
@@dionstewart7394 dammmm bro cause they weighed 25kg plus haha
LMAO the race wars part where they were so shocked at the name didnt click with me. For some reason I was only thinking about car racing and not race-race. So I was like well what else are they supposed to call it why is that bad?.... then it dawned on me and I couldnt stop laughing about how I completely missed that since I saw this in theaters as a kid in 2001.
I love the tiny stakes in this movie. The ‘up the ante’ moment is that the truck drivers of the dvd trucks are going to start carrying guns.
Never thought of that.
“They’re alive and kids bring them to life.”
"Hot can of NOS" is actually a relatively accurate car phrase... well done
Dermie is so iconic his mum got to be in his bread commercial. Legend for bringing him up in a vid.
This video needs a spoiler warning. Everytime any of these cars are on the screen, I get outraged with all the spoilers
For someone that has never seen a single movie from this series *AND NEVER WILL* I enjoyed this immensely.
The addition of the Saw theme was absolutely hilarious
The part with John Cena driving the truck and the Saw music playing in the background killed me
I love how they say that as a reference of what happens when it's revealed who kills Han in Tokyo drift as opposed to it being a random car that just collides lol
Bruh, I’m laughing so hard at the “race wars” jokes
The JDM car scene blew up cuz of this movie🔥👌🏽
It’s 2:30am in Canada but I’m ready for this one. Grabbing that gem!
so weird rewatching these and not having green trivia
Ahh the early 2000s...when these movies had actual car stunts and not just CGI
As someone who was in high school in the US (in Detroit, no less) in 2001, I can say that this franchise is still around because teenagers were OBSESSED with this movie. Everybody was tricking their cars out with those stupid spoilers and lights even before this movie came out, and it just got worse after.
the “engine” on top of dom’s car is actually just an intake manifold
Yup a big blower
Yea and those is on the roof of f1 cars
The thing I remember most about this movie is that the house that the cops work out of no longer exists, and was a cool as shit house. It was a house that was in a bunch of movies, and definitely should have been saved, and I’m still sad that it is gone
"I remember him being like.. Robocop machine gunned." Lmfao!!
6:34 That is my favourite shot from the movie. Vin Disel sitting inside the engine bay of a car. It looks ridiculous.
I mean, the engine's not in there so why not?
A quarter of a mile a minute is so slow I’m crying laughing great start mates
"They're having a speed race", "giant engine poking out of the hood of the car". You guys aren't really into cars, amirite?
For the full experience: I watched this in my car
We the people demand you review the whole franchise!
That opening makes me want a Caravan of Garbage episode on the Gorillaz.
I'd be happy with Ben's take on them too.
@@MrDeedsly I so badly want him to guest on his sibling's channel and talk about music. Check out CJ The X if you haven't already. They make such good video essays.
@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep I will thank you for the suggestion.
I imagine whatever Drum and Bass Dom played would sound quite alien to those 1950s audiences
Do all the movies!!! That would be superfunny 😂😂
I’m waiting for them to roll out everything to hobbs and shaw
Yez
Agreed
Fuck no that’s 2 months need more variety
YES PLEASE YES PLEASE
As always Ben, your edits are godlike
Aweee they’re not doing all 8 :( I wanted to watch you guys lose your minds again lol
They most likely will. They just like to keep us guessing
They did the same w transformers and James bond
i am so fucking happy that we got a dermot brereton reference, as a diehard hawks fan this made me smile, please never refrain from specific melbourne references again
Podcast: Two in the Think Tank, Episode 78 - Vin Diesel is a Car
This film was revolutionary. At the time of production the import tuner scene was at a frenzied high and every 12-18 year old wanted to be part of that culture. The best aspects of the film were pulled straight from modified mag, super street, and many more. What really helped this franchise was a tight script with little fat and exposition. Quick and easy to digest dialogue helped with pacing. This film is definitely a classic and a lot of what this movie got right has since been forgotten by the rest of the franchise.
John Cena WAS driving the train but you can't see him.
Apparently Corona has never given ‘The Fast & The Furious’ franchise a cent in advertisement money. Vin Diesel just really likes Corona. They may have provided free Corona here and there but, they were already getting so much free advertising that they saw no need for an official sponsorship deal.
You laugh but my brother was a car and eaten by a car
The early Fast and Furious movies were hallmarks of my childhood so no matter how ridiculous the new ones are I will always watch them
Cant wait to hear the reference that Tyrese Gibson based his eating habits in the movie after Brad Pitt in those ok at best Ocean’s movies. Also they realize he used to go by just “Tyrese”
Please come back to these.
In tears watching you try to make sense of Fast and Furious 😂😂.
I had just finished high school when this came out and living in southern California. This movie was huge there, it tapped into the whole street racing culture of the west coast.
My husband is from NorCal and these movies are favorites if his
I was in high school in the Midwest when this movie came out, and it was huge there, too. It was huge with teenagers everywhere, because teenagers everywhere were already doing this shit (just on a smaller scale in most places).
God, I feel old. Fast & Furious came out the year I was a senior in high school. I can honesty say, I have never seen a FF movie and never will. Cannot believe they’re still being made.
I have watched this movie twice last week in preparation for a video 💀
I’m excited for the prequel “The Past & The Previous”
“My brother was a car and he was eaten by car.” That’s the apex of the Fast Franchise. Which family is more important: blood or car? Really ratchet up the tension.
To James' point about car nerds. I've said for years "Everyone is a dork about something, just some shit is dorky"
Damn. I was hoping you would go through all 8. There's an unexpected turn that happens with fans of the franchise that have seen them all. It goes from "pretty good" to this is "transformers bad" then somehow you are a die hard fan except for Hobbs and Shaw.
I think the difference is that Transformers doesn't care, F&F cares... except for Hobbs and Shaw
The later F&F movies are the best live action anime movies ever made and I love them.
@@GlacialScion this pretty accurately describes them in one sentence lol
@@KasaiKouhai agreed. I wouldnt call them "good" good but pretty good is about right. But they are all necessary to watch.
The contuinity is kinda bizarre because on the surface, you think these movies are just your typical dumb action car blockbuster but the amount of callbacks and references and just overall cohesion between films is damn near impressive.
My least favorite is 4 tho.
The later ones are just bloated and boring CGI fests. But I guess that fits with current tastes.
A Fast and Furious podcast, and you mention Australian Football Legend - Dermott Brereton. Classic!
