If Yan can cook, so can you. Can't believe he still looks the same as when I first saw him in the early 90's. He's the man that inspired me to cook Chinese food when I was 15 years old. Thank You Mr. Yan, my family has had many great Chinese meals because of you.
Show some respect Mr Yan is a pioneer in cooking long before anyone knew of Cooking Chinese on TV It's good to see you Mr Yan You inspired my Intrigue in cooking Great Chinese food
I was fortunate to meet and interview Mr Yan several years ago. He is genuinely kind and wicked smart. I have a great deal of respect for him and his accomplishments.
So I learned 30 yrs ago to cook Chinese before any other method due to Martin Yan. He made it fun, exciting. I have evolved over the years as a somewhat amateur home chef/cook. My Chinese cooking is much more complex now, but I went into the kitchen a few days ago, and did what Yan did here - so fast, so simple, no complex thickening liquids routine and twice cooked methods I normally use. You know what? It was embarrassing how good his version here was! It took a whole 10 mins max. Value - VALUE. My wife was like...why is dinner cooked already?!?
And Lee Kum Kee Pan Lee Kum Kee Chopsticks Lee Kum Kee Ginger Lee Kum Kee Broccoli Lee Kum Kee Cooking Oil Lee Kum Kee Cornstarch Lee Kum Kee Kitchen Lee Kum Kee Stove Lee Kum Kee Bowl Lee Kum Kee Plate Lee Kum Kee Cutting Board Lee Kum Kee Knife
This guy has been around since he had a show on PBS back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. It was awesome and Ming Si had a show a few years later but Martin is the bomb and he is just such a nice man.
I haven't seen any of his shows in a long time. i enjoyed watching them. I have a circulon pan almost like his, I've owned it for over 8 yrs now and the non stick coating still remains, while other pans have not lasted past 1 yr. Best buy I have made.
Straight up, Yan can cook, and that show got me started making Asian food. Glad to see him still showing off his cooking skills. Props to you Mr. Yan. 🤙
Love Martin. He was my introduction to cooking Asian food. I had a Circulon wok for more than ten years without it losing its coating. Brilliant design.
I have watched Martin Yan on Yan Can Cook so many times. He is and always has been one of my favorites. Along with Ming Tsai, Rick Bayless, Bobby Flay, Michael Symon, Jean Pierre, America’s Test Kitchen, Jacque Pepin, the Frugal Gourmet (aka Graham Kerr), Julia Childs and the wonderful Justin Wilson! I watched all of these on PBS starting back in the early ‘60s. I think I watch too many cooking shows and I just showed my age. These cooking shows instilled my passion for cooking which lasts to this day. Bravo Martin Yan, this looks wonderful as does every recipe you have ever televised. Thank you to PBS also for providing all these wonderful cooking shows to inspire future foodies!
As a body builder, I use this recipe to meal prep my food.. Its so simple and I try to eat it at least 5 times a day but with different vegetables and meat such as chicken
I actually just got done cooking this, exactly the way he explained, and boy oh boy, I never knew I could cook such great food. ^-^ "If Yan can cook, you can too!" god love this guy
You are a very amazing man, I've been watching you since I was little and now I'm 45.. or 46 i can't remember.. lol Thank you for all that you have done and all the people you have inspired to try Chines food or cook it at home. Thank you Master Chef Yan.
I have lovedd Martin since the first time I saw him on PBS in the SF Bay Area when I was like 12. Every time I have ever seen anything he has done I get jazzed up and want to cook it all. Well in late 2005 I became a cook at a night club and at a pub next door. I cooked for a little over 2 years and would still be there if I hadn't gotten MS. I miss working in the kitchen but seeing Martin makes the longing so much worse! He is one of my cooking hero's!
i'm a mexican-american living in california and i LOVE to cook (and eat). i made this tonight for dinner and it came out great! although i didn't follow directions exactly (i only had ground ginger, no wine, i added sugar, red pepper flakes and black pepper) it does taste like something you'd get at a chinese restaurant. i know how to cook mexican food, but i'm trying to expand my horizons and do chinese, korean, and italian dishes. EXACT measurements aren't always needed. wing it, guys! cook!
Yan's the best - my wife attended a demonstration he was giving, she talked to him and he was persuaded to leave me an encouraging voicemail just before I was on my way to go back to school for a business degree. He's amazing. Funny to me is that I never see Martin use a standard or western/non-stick fry pan - he's always used a wok. Can't say he's not adaptable and I hope circulon compensated him well, haha. But a wok, especially on a dedicated high-heat burner, is an amazing implement for cooking and nothing can truly replicate the 'wok hei', that flavor enhancement that you get from a properly seasoned carbon steel wok over a roaring gas flame, used with the proper technique where you are able to ignite the vaporized oil droplets to get that extra smokiness in the flavor! I don't have that equipment, but have come close to similar results by using a butane torch. So much fun, just use caution and don't singe your eyebrows off!
Martin Yan is a TV chef... and he has my respect... he’s earned his stripes. But the quality of that dish is pure Happy Wok takeout - and I get it, that’s his audience. There are other Chinese chefs out there that have raised the bar a little since the 80’s.
that's a Pro. i had the pleasure of checking him in when he went to hong kong on cathay pacific from san francisco one time. super nice down to earth guy.
Yummy, and so very easy to cook. I used to watch his shows all the time. He is the best, and makes me laugh, lol. That makes the cooking more fun. The older shows are better of course.
Yan received a Master of Science degree in food science from University of California, Davis, in 1975. Awesome chef! He taught me a lot about Asian preparation when I was just a young'un! 'Yan can cook' TV show years ago! I really miss his flair for his techniques!!!!
made this n loved it, i didnt have fresh broccoli only the frozen steamers kind so i steamed brocolli in microwave then threw it into the pan when meat was almost done, good taste&easy.
@@dsilva2012Ok make a video or tell us how to make it. What video should we be watching then? Just telling people something is wrong and that’s it doesn’t sound credible
Great video..Mr Yan style or aim was to help people (that don’t have the time or skills). make a meal in a super-fast and simple way and not to turn it into a “whole day project”. , or by looking all over the place for “exotic” ingredients for hrs.. ( he used plain and easy to get ingredients) ..,,and with that in mind ; Mr Yan accomplishes his goal. 100%.... while sometimes been very funny and very entertaining At the same time. ....and for that reason he is always....’one of my all time favorites’.......thank-you Mr Yan........
Thank you Mr. Yan. i substitute garlic instead of ginger add a little bit of chopped red peppers and put it all on a bed of steamed rice its a meal that will fill you up, so tasty.

This man, Julia Child, Jacque Pepin - along with the PBS chefs, set off my basic knowledge of cooking ever since I was a kid.
The Holy Trinity of TV Chefs!
For anyone wondering, he's using:
Lee Kum Kee Oyster Sauce
Lee Kum Kee Dark Soy Sauce
Lee Kum Kee Sesame Oil
I use Pearl River Bridge brand stuff. Better flavour, less preservatives, and cheaper. Overall, better
Thank you!!!!

Wrong Yan. This is Martin Yan who had the show Yan Can Cook. You are thinking of Stephen Yan.
And neither are related, though they did work together at some point.
An his show "YAN CAN COOK.?" Was the other Show.? He hosted.?
A REDTAIL
No, "Yan Can Cook" is Martin Yan, which he has hosted for a long time. Stephen Yan did "Wok with Yan".
you know, i dont really like this dish.... but Martin Yan has a way of making it sound so appetizing

Its a dude making food. why all the negative comments?!? do you people have nothing better to do?
Because you will not like the results of how he is cooking. That's just not authentic. It's wrong on many levels so people that know cringe.
