If releasing Ogerpon is the best way to speedrun this...then I've never been so glad that I'm not a speedrunner.
You can just transfer to Pokémon home anyway if you don't want to release Ogerpon

If you save some XP candies I think Ogerpon is more than capable of defeating Carmine on her own, especially if you give her a mask

@@neetenshiI doubt it is, they give it to you at a decent level and it has legendary grade stats, so it’s likely just as viable for that battle as flamigo

The real question is preparing for the Indigo Disk Full Story Speedrun. Assuming we can’t go to the Indigo Disk until at least the Teal Mask is finished (see spoilers), and you also have to clear the Crater, at what point in the playthrough is it optimal to divert from Paldea to Kitakami?
I anticipate it’ll be around the Cassiopeia fight, which forces you back to the school anyways. If Kitakami doesn’t level up at this point along the regular Speedrun, it’ll be the quickest side quest.
Another option is going there early, either partially or to completion. Partially means you go there for a couple key items and/or a Pokémon, completion means you stay there until all story points are done (don’t know if Ursaluna will be required for Indigo Disk; I hope not).
The first reason being EXP, especially the EXP Charm. If heading to Kitakami early means you can skip gathering EXP Candy and/or items, can the run be fast enough compared to going there with -Raidon powered up and your Pokémon OHKOing with quad resisted moves?
For a second reason, new Pokémon and TMs are offered as soon as you enter the realm, the TMs for LP and materials, or found in the world alongside Pokémon. Are any of those moves valuable enough to divert to Kitakami asap, then use those to sweep the main story?
i'm pretty sure gamefreak said you need to beat both way home and kitakami to acess indigo disk
with that being said this is going to have an awnser pretty soon since we can already test when the optimal time to enter kitakami is, so you don't need to wait very long to find out
@@luissuazo3684I think I understand the question. The answer: what if a Pokémon in the DLC areas is faster for the DLC% speedrun than Flamigo or whoever they use for the Any% Speedrun.
yeah the levels do increase if you beat the entire main story. starting at high 50's and going into the 70's. i had decided to use a new team because otherwise my level 100's would sweep. i recommend having you pokemon start at level 60 for the right amount of challenge. my playthrough was genuinely challenging so i had to get creative, but if that still didn't work i would use a few exp candy to increase my team by a level or two.

I liked it well enough, having to lie felt a bit forced though.
Loved it honestly. I really liked how due to carmines prickly nature, we kind of became an accomplice to a villain's origin story. Super excited for the second part

It was not good, the characters are petty and unlikable, the story is cheap, and you are forced to lie in dialogue. What’s worse is that it was so short that I feel as though I was gauged and multiple TM’s and items were locked behind that paywall.

just wanted to give props to the thumbnail artist because it looks like some crazy scientist that only wants to study something, without caring for the how or the consequences.
The only other thing I can think of is to use ogrepon as the sole pokémon for that one fight, but I'm unsure if it would be considered viable
the Hearthflame mask is already banned in SV OU because of how broken it is
Ogrepon comes with Perfect IVs in Attack, health, and speed
You could probably solo the game with her since she can change to various masks to make her stronger in type matchups

Wait, I'm confused. Couldn't you use Ogerpon on its own in the final battle instead of releasing it, since its level 70 when caught? Or am I missing something very obvious-
It's caught at level 20 when facing the lower level DLC and a bit slower to use than other speedrun mons.

IIRC They are in the 30s when you fight them in their pseudo Titan forms. When you finish the DLC and go to catch them, though, they will be level 70 whether or not you have finished the main game

The final fight with Carmine could also be handled by putting Ogerpon first in your party and letting it get taken out. I dislike legendaries I catch HAVING to be used and didn't want extra exp on her, and when I put her in my party I saw she hadn't been healed after I caught her, so she was still at one hp. Put her at the front of my party, Carmine's pokemon used a priority move and that was it.
Not sure if the combined time of doing that, watching the faint and then switching to Flamigo would be faster than straight up releasing OGerpon, but it's an option.
That was fast. I only beat the main story for it earlier today 😂
Actually Carmine will also comment if you do a not very effective move. Not in every fight but I remember her saying something one time
I just saw this myself and am beyond surprised to see this change from past Pokemon games. Her text is at least funny, but this hurts speedrunners even more. 😭
In the first fight yes, since I was using an Apllin and used Sucker punch
She said how bad I was
So I broke her entire team with my Meowscarada
I think they also comment when they themselves get a crit
Although, if you're outspeeding and one shotting, I guess that doesn't come up

The dlc is short, but we had the same complaints about the Isle of Armor. If you played like I did where i took breaks to catch Pokémon and slowly fill up the dex, it took about three days of total playtime to beat it
Ok. My Poochyena was Leve 60. I finished all of the Paths.
And the Higest was like Level 70 (And some Npcs had Level 75-80 Pokemon)
Yeah, you have to complete ALL of Scarlet/Violet for the Teal Mask to scale up accordingly. For example that Poocheyena is lv 60 instead of 12.
Why not just put Flamigo in the box and use Ogrepon against Carmine? Ogrepon is extremely strong, and I assume that with the hearthflame mask you can just blast through entire team?
Interesting cheese strategy for Ogerpon fight that could come into play on speed runs--Ghost Fire types with flash fire (like Ceruledge and Chandelure) cannot be damaged at all by the first Ogerpon form and can easily set up a couple of boosts and sweep the fight.

I think it should specifically be against the rules to release Ogerpon. It's not a timeloss if everyone agrees on it being illegal to turn your back on a Friend.
i feel the shiny part i did my first ever speedrun of pokemon shield a few months back and on my way to the 6th gym i found a full odds shiny galvantula also convienantly in the point of the game where you need a 2nd pokemon
I mean... Does putting Ogretan-- I mean Ogerpon in Pokemon Home counts as time loss? If not maybe that's a better option, idk if it's the same as Kubfu with IoA since it's the same thing on the tower part of the DLC where you save time by not bringing it
I bet you could also move Ogerpon to HOME similar to Kubfu. Teal Mask is proving to be interesting as it adds in a nice chunk of 100 older Pokémon, which oddly most evolve via stones or trades. And since you can find them all at levels 55-65 post game it makes it some of the fastest ways to get some easy Pokémon that evolve with one candy.
I mean if you are speedrunning and want to use Ogerpon for VGC, couldn't you still catch her on an alternate profile?
Teal mask is the same as isle of armor in the level cap adjusting

3:00 Man I was worried when I got to the mini game and I got a score of 1700 and she got like 6700. Didn't want to do that ever again.

Ikr? Catch the shiny, put it in Home, and then start a new run. Unless you are near the end and at world record pace, the tradeoff hardly seems worth it to me 🤦🏽♂️
When you catch ogrepon it stays at 1hp don't heal it, put it in the 1st slot of your party start the fight, let Carmine knock it out since mightyena is faster than it (atleast it was faster than mine) then sweep her with whatever mon you want

Step #1: Boot up new save file.
Step #2: Prepare for DLC.
Step #3: Clear DLC as fast as possible and get Ogrepon as a new option aside from Flamigo.
Step 4: Destroy the world record.
Step #5: Profit and repeat.
Isn't there a setting to turn off the text that asks if you want to switch in a trainer battle?
In the previous games, yes. The option was removed in SV for...some reason
For Carmine's fight that requires Ogrepon in your party, can't you just enable "Set Battle" mode so you don't get that text pop up?
Also, the thing about the magically appearing pokeball in your bag to catch Ogrepon, that's not what should've happened. You should've been given a ball by one of the siblings. Same thing should've happened with Hop and catching Eternatus. Hop gives you a ball and then chastises you afterwards.

Doesn’t setting the game to set prevent being asked if you want to switch out after an enemy Pokémon faints? Isn’t that like the whole point of that setting? To accomplish what you did by releasing Ogerpon??
There is no set mode.
The level proportionality is carried over from Sword and Shield as the levels of the Pokémon in the DLC would get way higher after completing the Darkest Day.

Flamigo literally sweeps the whole DLC because for whatever reason many mons are weak to its stab in my experience which i played as soon as i started the treasure hunt on the main game and only got the dash ability

Interesting analysis video! Man, the fact that there was a lower difficulty version of the DLC makes me so upset, because you can't access it if you beat the main game's story already, & so many people were looking forward to a fresh start! But no, they don't get to do it if they beat the game! That stuff needs a toggle or a difficulty slider or something, just for the people who wanted a fresh start on an easy difficulty. Though, the wild Pokemon's levels won't be changed, will they?

Same thing, moving a Pokémon to Home it's the same as being released from the base game. The game cannot check Home boxes.
As long as the DLC was purchased on a Switch's primary profile, all profiles can use the DLC. You could do that fresh start on a new save file.

All it took was to switch to set mode…
i mean this DLC was very short, if you just go for the story without any interference, you can complete it at least in 2 hours( with fast travel). I hope the Indigo Disk plus the post DLC story is longer than the the Teal Mask DLC.
