Every time I watch your log cabin tutorials - I get the itch to start up some blocks. I think these will be my next bonus project. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Sherri - Not only do I love your fabrics, but this tutorial on the mini 4” log cabin block is sweet! I wish I had the quilt shown on your table today, anywhere in my home! Thanks for the warm fuzzies on this cold, cold day in North Texas.
@@marlahanks7278 I’m in Ira and wondered why I have been cold today. I still can’t believe we’ve had snow twice. A rare treat as we usually only get a little ice and a dusting of snow.
Wow this little ruler is better than eating chocolate😉 I am so hooked! I love your video tutorials! I have shared your video with my quilting friends and they have purchased the rulers and are hooked also! Nice job Sherri!💞
I made a wall hanging with all my red white and blue scraps from previous quilts using the 4” log cabin ruler. It was really fun to sew different size pieces to each round and then use the tool for a perfect 4 1/2” unfinished block.
Thanks for this video. They're super cute blocks! There may be some waste as others have mentioned, however, I feel if the blocks come out perfect and your quilt works out well, it's worth it especially if it's a smaller project, then it's not so much waste over all. I know you and Chelsi both have other videos and patterns showing/explaining other ways of making log cabin quilts without the ruler for those who may want to try that method with less waste which is a valid point for some. I haven't made this block yet, but I have the rulers and very excited to make a Log Cabin Quilt! -Robin Voak, Magnolia, DE
@@candyly4 HI! I was getting frustrated with my new editing software. lol I plan on doing all kinds of things, but will definitely keep scrapbooking...have my first grandbaby due in June! They're so fortunate to have Billy. lol
Wonderful. Thank you, Sherri. Excellent explanation. I have this Creative Grids Log Cabin ruler and a couple of the larger ones. Now, I feel confident to use them.
Sherri, thank you so much for this tutorial! I love log cabin blocks, the 4 inch ones would be so beautiful for a table runner or the square table topper!! ❤️😍😘
I have several creative grids trim tools. Whatever size strip the ruler calls for, I use at least 1/4” less. It just depends on your seam allowance. I agree there is too much wasted fabric.
Maybe I'm not understanding this but why start out with such wide strips if you end up cutting so much off? Why wouldn't you just cut thinner strips to start with so there's not so much waste?
Forget the ruler....forget the waste from trimming; buy a HoneyBun which are 1.5" strips already cut.... or cut your own 1.5" strips to make a cute mini log cabin block.
Hi. Thank you for your tutorial. I think many ladies have the same doubt I have. It's hard to understand the reason of so much waste of fabric. Does it mean the ruler is not really a great deal? And there is a larger ruler like the pineapple as well if I'm not mistaken. Wouldn't be better to get the larger or you need different sizes? They are a bit pricey to have many sizes. Thanks xx
I'd like to know where the pattern is for the tulip, log cabin, and one other block. It was in the background of the pineapple block you demonstrated. I hope it's in one place instead of having to purchase 3 separate patterns. :)
As expensive as cotton fabric is, there is too much waste of fabric using this method. If you like crumb quilts perhaps you’ll have a box full of scraps quickly.
You explained this ruler / block so well. I really understood it. I had been afraid of this ruler. Thanks so much!!

A great project for beginners and experienced quilters.

I love using these rulers for log cabins
Now, I’m inspired to make these cute mini log cabin blocks! Thank you, Sherri, for this tutorial! ❤️
Thank you! 🥰

I do have 4 inch trim tool so I was excited to watch your tutorial! Again thanks for the inspiration ♥♥
So if you didn’t have that ruler would you make the strips 1 inch wide instead of 1.5? How wide are the strips after you trim them?
Very interesting I need to try this. Thank You
Do you ever fussy cut your center square
Cute mini log cabin block.
Love your tutorials!
I love that! I just made a video with fabric strips as well! I love scrappy quilts!
I love this trimming tool! Thank you for this tutorial.

I guess if you had a bunch of rectangular scraps to use up, you might consider doing the block, but otherwise I agree on the waste of fabric.
@@joycefitzpatrick758 Jordan fabrics has a pattern using 2 1/2” strips.
Thank you!
This might be a really nutty question, but are you demonstrating from your perspective or ours? I don't know which side to start on.

These log cabins blocks are adorable, but you waste a lot of fabric using this trimming tool
There is way too much waste. We need to originally cut the strips smaller.
Lots of waste but cut blocks
