🤦‍♂️ everyone blames the engine, then all these guys leave them outside for months half open to the elements! I can’t wrap my head around it. How do we accurately determine fault when the cylinder walls are all rusted and the oil is full of water!? Hate to say it but you missed a great opportunity for content in actual troubleshooting. Replace the engine, get your truck going, that’s cool - but why leave a goldmine of information setting in the elements?! If you are just going to assume that it was a mechanical failure then okay, whatever. Let’s hope it wasn’t over fueling related to poor tuning or... , improper oiling with clogged oil passages due to carbon buildup or the use of improper oil, injector issues due to sticking or harness problems, or previous damage from a leaking EGR that wrecked havoc with coolant being ingested long before you knew it and deleted the truck. Is what it is now... Good luck with the swap. Wishing you the best.

Exactly what I said. Completely missed the mark on this. Was hoping he’d find the underlying issue that cause the failure. Not just put a new engine in.

How many miles were on the old engine before it went.

If you're doing (or have Done) the FASS you should also go ahead and install the Amsoil By-pass filter kit to keep your oil filtered down to 2 microns (the OE style oil filters only filter oil to ~20 microns). They're only in the $300-$350 range , as I recall, and will help keep the junk outta your engine.

Super awesome that you’re doing this. But I have to say, I think you missed the point of tearing into the truck/engine completely by letting it sit outside in the rain. The Cummins XD community is hungry to understand why these engines are blowing, and less so how to replace them. I selfishly was really looking forward to a careful teardown and analysis of what caused the failure. Regardless, happy to see your uploads!

I'd like to know if it is possible to do a manual transmission swap on mine. I was tbinking the 6spd from the Ram 2500 Cummins. I'd e joy it alot more with a manual transmission because of how horrible the shift mapping and lag time is on the stock transmission. It always wants to short shift to 4th gear.if I try to apply more throttle before it upshifts tp 4th it will upshift right after, and soon as I let off it downshifts so there is a huge lag time on it. Other than the shift mapping and extreme lag time between throttle inputs and actually shifts. I love the truck. I think swapping to a manual would make a world of difference.

I'm intrested on what happend to the old motor. I hear the wire harness to the injectors gets grounded by one of the hold-downs and causes the injector to stay open and vapor lock the cylinder, also hear the EGR cooler leaks so bad into the motor, it also vapor locks the engine.

Great videos, on the Titan, I rebuild these engines, there is no oil pan gasket, RTV silicone gasket maker. The RTV Cummins uses is crazy crazy strong, good luck prying the bottom pan off.

The FASS fuel system is a good idea but im more worried the CP4 pump failing on mine, As far as I know, no one has made a disaster prevention kit for the 5.0. I know S&S has made them for other diesels with the CP4 but not the titan motor. Do you know of any other company making something like that? Sure would be nice to have some kind of filter between the CP4 and the fuel rail. Why Cummins didn't do that to begin with is beyond me.
