Thanks fur the tutorial, I'm doing the same installI but i believe your camera power is always hot which means it's always on as to why it failed prematurely. Also the camera will work without that red trigger wire when you put the gear selector in reverse.
You're welcome. Actually, I'm not sure how the entire thing was wired up it it's brain. But your point is valid. The camera always had access to power, but I'd hope only turned on when the reverse light clicked on. It's kinda like a refrigerator light :) Maybe the light is on when I close the door? Too funny. In any event, the 2nd one worked really well and never failed.
In deed connecting to the fuse will have the camera always turned on. FOr that matter its safer to just connect to the radio red wire you have in the trunk, as part of the quad lock connector. That way at least you maintain it on only when the ignition is on
hey can you give more details please on the wirung for backup camera? I am working on installing a the similar unit and the back up camera. Camera does not want to work
The cable you have from the camera to the head unit should have more than just a video camera feed; it should have a red "trigger" wire. Connect that trigger wire to the backup light. Then, you'll need power to the camera. You cannot run the camera off of the power from the backup light as it's not strong enough. Run it to you fuse box most likely 12v power same as radio. At the head unit, it should also have a "trigger" wire input so it knows when your car is in reverse. Connect that, and the video feed in and you should be good to go. Does that help? How's your wire setup?
Thanks for the quick response. I have it wired like you explained but the camera is powered from the reverse light. I see the camera led bulb light but no image on the monitor eventhough Video connections see to be good
From what I understand the reason your old one didnt work could be not the cameras fault. BMW has pulsating current due to " bulb out" warning signal. When hooked up to fuse it is always power on and simple killed the life of my 80 dollar camera.
I have the same car/radio. Can someone tell me where to get illumination power to the radio ? Also, when I power the camera from the reverse light the camera sometimes flicker.
My camera never flickered so I wonder if you have a bad connection or you have a bad camera. As far as the illumination I'm not sure that sounds strange as I think that would be default...
Hi. I try same way and everything is same , radio unit to .. but when i start engine then camera not show anything mean dosnt work but when i turn key but not start engine then camera work. How come :)
I am having the same problem as the other guy. My camera came wit the video wire and the black and red wire. I hooked the trigger wire to the reverse light. It comes on but not clear and kinda jumpy like it don't have enough power.

That head unit works on 2003-2005 Range Rover as well, just FYI. But I can't get my rear backup camera to work.
+Darren Arni I had to change a wire to the head unit...its on the Main connector
Darren Arni how did you get it to fit into range rover vogue.. I've bought one but audio electrician is finding it difficult to install

It's a reverse camera and will only work in reverse; unless you wire it differently. Are you saying this is while in reverse?
What type of deck is that
