There's no excuse for Ford making it so complicated and expensive to turn off MyKey. This should be a 5 minute job with the factory scan tool and no new keys.
Mkey is the dumbest thing ever to be added to a vehicle. Ford made no allowances for the majority who will never need any of these features. Fix this idiotic thing now! Thanks!

Those who have remote start (automatic transmission) has another free option. The auto remote is programmed as an admin key and you can access mykey through the remote start. Sometimes people may program the key but almost never the autostart FOB because it is often overlooked.
@@yaniracornejo9069 if you have a digital dashboard it will be easier to navigate otherwise here is what you will be looking for. Step 1: turn your vehicle on with the auto remote start. Step 2: go into the main menu of the dashboard and go to settings Step 3: look for mykey or mykey settings (this setting will not show itself if you use the key in the ignition or had started the vehicle up with the restricted mykey) Step 4: look for the setting that says rest mykey or anything that says reset in the menu. Press and hold And that should do it. This is what I do on my mustang but all fords should have somewhat the same protocol.
I got super lucky. I have an aftermarket remote start. I was able to clear the my key with after starting it with the remote start without key in the ignition. Would definitely recommend having one installed over spending the $ on a spare key just to get rid of the my key death setting lol.
It definitely worked thank you so much your a lifesaver now I can finally travel over 80 if I need to on the highway very rarely do I cause I don’t speed but if there is a slow vehicle I need that extra boost to get around them
Very helpful! Thanks I got my keys cleared simply by starting my car with the spare key though it is broken I used a wrench to turn the key and start the car by holding the fob next to it.

Thank you for posting this video! My owners manual says "Turn ignition on". Well... does that mean to press the start button a second time to get the display to turn on? NO! The video says "Start your vehicle". That was my problem. I wasn't starting my vehicle. With a regular, old fashion car, turning the ignition on, is turning the key forward and everything lighting up on the dash. Starting the car is turning the key forward to the start position, which engages the starter and letting the key return to the run position. That, to me, is the ignition being on. I blame this on Jacques Nasser for firing all the engineers that were car guys.
This literally happened to me two days ago bought a truck and only had one key. My dumbass was playing with the settings in the dash and accidentally activated my key to the only key I had. 2017 Ford F-150. Dealership wanted 350$ to program a new key to erase my key. Ended up calling a mobile lock smith. He came out and programmed a spare key for me. With the spare it didn’t have my key activated so I was able to clear the my keys on the display. The mobile lock smith only cost me $130 to program new spare key and erase the mykey on the other key

Ok I just ran into this problem, I have 2 keys and I was playing around with my truck and I set the my keys . I had to place the key in a certain spot, like I said I programmed the my key. I’m assuming I had the administrator key like you’re speaking of in your video so how do I disable the smart thing because I don’t like how the truck is now. We were in the same boat, bought a 2012 Ford Edge without the admin key. We bought an aftermarket key from Amazon and found a Ford dealership that cut the key and programmed it as the admin key for $65. The new stat key to erase the Mikey settings for the key that came with the car. I agree with other commenters this is far too complicated and expensive.
Got a quick question…2014 F150 XLT here. so the other day I was fiddling with settings and inadvertently programmed a mykey for the key on my keychain. I know it’s hard to accidentally program this and yes I was a little stupid for it lol…however, now I have the volume/speed restrictions etc. and need rid of them. I have a spare key at home. Will I just need to start the truck with the spare key and it will allow me to clear the restrictions? Or is it going to be a way more complicated process
@@Ashadowman luckily the owner before me had the spare key that he gave me as well, so once I got home I turned on the truck with my spare key and it allowed me to clear all MyKeys in the system. If you don’t have spare key it tends to get a little complicated

So you have the main Administration key and let's say your daughter wants to borrow your vehicle for the weekend you can give her the backup key which is the my key and it will limit her from being unsafe while she's driving the vehicle to an extent on whatever parameters you set her up at
My key for my 2017 mustang had all access to most features but just recently I reset it thinking it would just refresh it, after I finished the process it took away all my features like my volume and speed of my vehicle has a limit. I never been so pissed in awhile
@@FordBossMe I got the problem sorted out today by a locksmith surprisingly and got all my features back. He basically went in with a programming computer and erased all the previous keys and set up my current one and a spare as admin
I’m going to give this a try myself, I bought car used, the key I was given isn’t the admin because I can’t reprogram or clear the mykey settings which are irritating to me …. I purchased a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport last year and it only has 1 key which is the Admin key. I simply want to buy and program a spare key and it is the remote start key fob with push to start button if you do not want to remote start the vehicle. I've watched and read many videos and read where you can use your admin key as well as the slot in the center console to program a second key... Are you aware of this procedure as " some " dealer techs are only familiar with Ford's in shop procedures. But actually on some Fords dealer sites it also describes the procedure I've mentioned. Honestly I don't know how they did it you're going to need two keys to get rid of it though if you can't turn it off yourself with the master key through the instrument cluster

I do have a question if you wouldn't mind, and you may not know the answer or may not be able to answer and that's ok if you don't/can't. I have a 2014 fusion that I would love to program another key for. I have a place I can get them cut and such and I do use forscan and have pretty good knowledge with forscan. I have successfully added a spare key to my girlfriends old 03 windstar and that was pretty easy. Would the fusion be the same process?

I covered that in this video man, I clearly told you and the video explained if you lose the main key and you have a restriction set with your backup key you have to literally go to the dealer and buy a new key or get a locksmith to buy a new key and cut it and then reprogram both keys to the vehicle fresh that's the only way that you can get the Restriction to go away
Wiscasset Ford (ME) told me over $350 JUST to get the key cut. That's NOT the dealership I bought the truck from. I got one key when I bought the truck. I was in the settings and programed the one key. Now I can't listen to the radio without seatbelts. Luckily I got all the settings where I wanted em except that one. Could have been worse.

Hey, so I bought my 2012 ford escape with only one key and while I was learning the settings and messing around with it, I accidentally set up MyKey for the only key I had and now don’t really have a way to disable it. Not sure if I am forced to buy a key to take it off.
I have a Fiesta 2018 reg number. I have only one key. I just bought the car. By mistake I programmed the key. So now I am restricted. In the menu there is no option to delete/erase the key. it just say 1ADMIN KEY&1 MYKEY. How can I delete this key?

I so want to get back to factory Admin keys and have the Mykey option. But I got so fed up I purchased Forscan and went in to the programing and disabled my key all together for $15 off ebay
So to buy the program it's at least $50 and then to buy the communication dongle obd-linkex it's like another 50 bucks and then you have to have a laptop that's compatible with their programming and then you can go into and disable the my key function but you have to know how to do it so that would not equate to $15 off of eBay it's much more than that if you don't already have the program
No the scan adaptor was $15 off ebay, forscan gives you a 2 month license for free. I downloaded the small program off there site and the tool is USB. Took me 15 mins to disable the mykey, also turned off driver and passenger seat chimes and a couple other annoying chimes. There's several videos on TH-cam on how to go in and do it.
I have a key related question as well. I bought a 2013 Mustang GT, it came with 1 key, it works fine, no issues. But I work at a Chevy dealer, I had 2 aftermarket keys ordered, they look exactly the same just don’t have the mustang or ford logo on the back. I’ve heard I can program it to the car myself cycling the ignition 8 times and I’ve heard that I absolutely have to go to the dealer or a locksmith. Thank you!
Do old school more basic Keys you could cycle the ignition and do that on the new ones I don't really think it's that easy but there's something wrong with you trying you ain't going to hurt anything
You can program after market remotes using a similar procedure described in the owners manual. The new remote head key will not start the car yet. A different on-board procedure which requires 2 already-working keys will enable you to add a 3rd (new key) to the anti-theft system.
@Ford Boss Me - I bought my '16 F350 with 1 key. The radio is MK limited. "MyKey" was/is not available in the dash menu. I had a locksmith cut/program a second key. Still no MK in the menu. I paid a Ford dealer 193.00 to remove the MY KEY. The radio, clock, speedometer etc did not work after years of use. They used my two keys and gave them back. Its was a 2016 Ford Escape and I will not ever buy another Ford.

Probably a battery issue, or did you change keys. If you have 2 and the admin key is unrestricted and you accidentally grabbed the backup that had restrictions the car knows

If you had an Administration key in the computer that is marked as the admin key and you don't physically have it well your s*** out of luck and you have to go buy another key and then have somebody erase and program two new keys to get rid of my key you need the original to get rid of it but because you don't have it you can't get rid of it until you erase and program two keys

I bought the truck brand new ... In fact i had to wait nearly a year before the vehicle was manufactured and shipped to my ford dealer. I was just familiarizing myself with all the little features of the truck and ended up setting the max possible speed to 130 km/hr. I figured i could always remove this restriction if i wanted; but now, for the life of me, i just cannot figure out how in bloody hell to get rid of this silly limitation that i myself have put in

Keys are not as simple as in the past. I remember working front parts counter and trying to explain to customers that they had a PATS key. I could cut a new one but it would have to be programed. Some would understand and some would get really pissed off.

The Wife has been complaining about her KEY FOB, or that when she comes up to the Car and grabs the Door Handle, the Door won't Unlock and Open? She said she has to take her Key Out of her Purse and Push the "UNLOCK BUTTON" to Unlock the Door and get in the Car. I have Replaced the Battery "2" Times with a Duracell and an EverReady Energizer. My Key works Fine??? I am going outside right now 05/12/2022, with her Key Fob and try it leaving my key in the house. (we both know it's going to work)..... 🥺. However, if there is something "I" can do to keep this from happening that would be GREAT to know. IE. This is a NEW Issue that we have NEVER had B4? Thanks. Ken.

Yes it will up until the standard government speed so like if somebody has it set at 80 mph and that's how the my key is set up and then you want to disable it you have to program two new keys to it or have the original Administration key in the vehicle at the time to wipe it out and then you go up to the factory Governor which is like 120 or 1:30 I think

The key that you originally set up the my key with may not have been the original Administration key so you're going to have to have the dealer wipe the keys and reprogram them
Then the 2nd key isn't the original key, you need a dealer or locksmith to ERASE AND PROGRAM 2 KEYS - the ones you have will work but they are not the original administrator key
Well that sucks. I was hoping it would be easier/cheaper to get rid of mikey on my car. Thankfully they took off the speed and radio limiter still annoying though. My dealer also quoted me 240 for a new key. I might get a new key if I find out of my car has a remote start module.
You're probably going to have to take it to the dealership you're going to need two keys so if you don't have a second key you're going to have to purchase one and then you're going to have to pay for the labor to have them go into the computer and erase and program two new keys to get rid of it
Chances are if you don't have a second key your screwed....I think your going to be screwed anyway and will need a second key - wipe and program 2 new keys

Yeah i had no idea what this was when i turned it on i regret it now lol it was on for months with no volume limit and no speed limit but my battery was dead so i jumped my suv today and sure enough now the 80mph limit is on and the 45percent vol limit
Hey so my suv died again this morning I jumped it with my battery jumper and that bypassed the mykey and allowed me to start it as an admin and delete the mykeys I had stored
I just left Ford service center and I asked them if they can disable this feature. They told me they have to make new key for me, and I'll have to pay $300 for.
Yeah that's true that's exactly what the video says as well and you have to have two keys and if you don't have two keys you need it which is going to be about $300

You should be able to use one of the keys to turn the feature off if you can't then you're going to have to have those keys reprogrammed

I bought a 2012 Flex with only a mykey key and had a locksmith program a new key to the vehicle. Is that now and admin key that can be used to remove the mykey restrictions on the other key?

So you have the main Administration key and let's say your daughter wants to borrow your vehicle for the weekend you can give her the backup key which is the my key and it will limit her from being unsafe while she's driving the vehicle to an extent on whatever parameters you set her up at
My key for my 2017 mustang had all access to most features but just recently I reset it thinking it would just refresh it, after I finished the process it took away all my features like my volume and speed of my vehicle has a limit. I never been so pissed in awhile
Yep now you're going to need an additional key in the dealer's going to have to charge you 1 hour labor to erase program the two keys
@@FordBossMe I got the problem sorted out today by a locksmith surprisingly and got all my features back. He basically went in with a programming computer and erased all the previous keys and set up my current one and a spare as admin
I’m going to give this a try myself, I bought car used, the key I was given isn’t the admin because I can’t reprogram or clear the mykey settings which are irritating to me …. Not able to get my volume above 11 or car to go above 80 mph or any sound until myself and passenger are buckled…so, from what I understand from your response is I need get a locksmith to cut a new key, reprogram my key and the new key to clear mykey settings, is that correct?

I purchased a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport last year and it only has 1 key which is the Admin key. I simply want to buy and program a spare key and it is the remote start key fob with push to start button if you do not want to remote start the vehicle. I've watched and read many videos and read where you can use your admin key as well as the slot in the center console to program a second key... Are you aware of this procedure as " some " dealer techs are only familiar with Ford's in shop procedures. But actually on some Fords dealer sites it also describes the procedure I've mentioned. Any ideas ?
Wait... I just got an oil change yesterday and MyKey was activated. I've had my 2017 Ford Focus for over a year and never had MyKey until yesterday right after this oil change. How did this shop program MyKey??
Honestly I don't know how they did it you're going to need two keys to get rid of it though if you can't turn it off yourself with the master key through the instrument cluster
This happened to me today they turned on mykey on my 2014 Ford explorer... Have to go back tomorrow to talk with the owner they should pay for this not me the worker was messing with all my buttons..

Hey Rich, first I love your videos, I learn a lot. Even about vehicles I probably will never own or have any experience with but that's cool. I believe knowledge is power. I do have a question if you wouldn't mind, and you may not know the answer or may not be able to answer and that's ok if you don't/can't. I have a 2014 fusion that I would love to program another key for. I have a place I can get them cut and such and I do use forscan and have pretty good knowledge with forscan. I have successfully added a spare key to my girlfriends old 03 windstar and that was pretty easy. Would the fusion be the same process?

I covered that in this video man, I clearly told you and the video explained if you lose the main key and you have a restriction set with your backup key you have to literally go to the dealer and buy a new key or get a locksmith to buy a new key and cut it and then reprogram both keys to the vehicle fresh that's the only way that you can get the Restriction to go away
Wiscasset Ford (ME) told me over $350 JUST to get the key cut. That's NOT the dealership I bought the truck from. I got one key when I bought the truck. I was in the settings and programed the one key. Now I can't listen to the radio without seatbelts. Luckily I got all the settings where I wanted em except that one. Could have been worse.

I have a Fiesta 2018 reg number. I have only one key. I just bought the car. By mistake I programmed the key. So now I am restricted. In the menu there is no option to delete/erase the key. it just say 1ADMIN KEY&1 MYKEY. How can I delete this key?
It it won't delete that key by itself someone with a computer will have to cut and program 1 more and both will have to be reprogrammed

You need the administrator key and if you don't have the original key that set up the restrictions you need to go to the dealer or lock Smith and have 2 key keys programmed - if you only have one you'll have to buy a 2nd

No I don't think you have to have the admin key to set the restrictions but you have to have it to remove them

I so want to get back to factory Admin keys and have the Mykey option. But I got so fed up I purchased Forscan and went in to the programing and disabled my key all together for $15 off ebay
So to buy the program it's at least $50 and then to buy the communication dongle obd-linkex it's like another 50 bucks and then you have to have a laptop that's compatible with their programming and then you can go into and disable the my key function but you have to know how to do it so that would not equate to $15 off of eBay it's much more than that if you don't already have the program
No the scan adaptor was $15 off ebay, forscan gives you a 2 month license for free. I downloaded the small program off there site and the tool is USB. Took me 15 mins to disable the mykey, also turned off driver and passenger seat chimes and a couple other annoying chimes. There's several videos on TH-cam on how to go in and do it.
I use my forscan too and my speet is erase but radio is still limited can u pls show my how u do it

I have a key related question as well. I bought a 2013 Mustang GT, it came with 1 key, it works fine, no issues. But I work at a Chevy dealer, I had 2 aftermarket keys ordered, they look exactly the same just don’t have the mustang or ford logo on the back. I’ve heard I can program it to the car myself cycling the ignition 8 times and I’ve heard that I absolutely have to go to the dealer or a locksmith. Thank you!
Do old school more basic Keys you could cycle the ignition and do that on the new ones I don't really think it's that easy but there's something wrong with you trying you ain't going to hurt anything
You can program after market remotes using a similar procedure described in the owners manual. The new remote head key will not start the car yet. A different on-board procedure which requires 2 already-working keys will enable you to add a 3rd (new key) to the anti-theft system.
@Ford Boss Me - I bought my '16 F350 with 1 key. The radio is MK limited. "MyKey" was/is not available in the dash menu. I had a locksmith cut/program a second key. Still no MK in the menu. I have Forscan and deleted both keys and reprogrammed both. Still no MK in the menu. What am I missing or doing wrong?

I paid a Ford dealer 193.00 to remove the MY KEY. The radio, clock, speedometer etc did not work after years of use. They used my two keys and gave them back. Its was a 2016 Ford Escape and I will not ever buy another Ford.
Why did my car start having restrictions with out doing anything. All of a sudden. I've had the car since 2016 bought new. Just started restrictions 2 days ago
Probably a battery issue, or did you change keys.
If you have 2 and the admin key is unrestricted and you accidentally grabbed the backup that had restrictions the car knows

If you had an Administration key in the computer that is marked as the admin key and you don't physically have it well your s*** out of luck and you have to go buy another key and then have somebody erase and program two new keys to get rid of my key
you need the original to get rid of it but because you don't have it you can't get rid of it until you erase and program two keys

I bought the truck brand new ... In fact i had to wait nearly a year before the vehicle was manufactured and shipped to my ford dealer. I was just familiarizing myself with all the little features of the truck and ended up setting the max possible speed to 130 km/hr. I figured i could always remove this restriction if i wanted; but now, for the life of me, i just cannot figure out how in bloody hell to get rid of this silly limitation that i myself have put in

Keys are not as simple as in the past. I remember working front parts counter and trying to explain to customers that they had a PATS key. I could cut a new one but it would have to be programed. Some would understand and some would get really pissed off.
I have one key how do I know if I have admin key or a back up key and dealership wants to charge me 300$ for the fob and 200plus for programming so yeah $500 plus just to turn off my key

Evening Rich. Hey, We have a 2018 Ford Edge Titanium "LOADED" not AWD, and 3.5 V6 Non Turbo. The Wife has been complaining about her KEY FOB, or that when she comes up to the Car and grabs the Door Handle, the Door won't Unlock and Open? She said she has to take her Key Out of her Purse and Push the "UNLOCK BUTTON" to Unlock the Door and get in the Car. I have Replaced the Battery "2" Times with a Duracell and an EverReady Energizer. My Key works Fine??? I am going outside right now 05/12/2022, with her Key Fob and try it leaving my key in the house. (we both know it's going to work)..... 🥺. However, if there is something "I" can do to keep this from happening that would be GREAT to know. IE. This is a NEW Issue that we have NEVER had B4? Thanks. Ken.

Yes it will up until the standard government speed so like if somebody has it set at 80 mph and that's how the my key is set up and then you want to disable it you have to program two new keys to it or have the original Administration key in the vehicle at the time to wipe it out and then you go up to the factory Governor which is like 120 or 1:30 I think

You got to take those two keys that you have and go to the dealership and have them erase and reprogram two new keys to knock out the restrictions

setup the mykey on accident on my 2013 foST. I recently just got a spare key made and programmed to my car from a locksmith but it still won't let me disable the stupid mykey. The key that you originally set up the my key with may not have been the original Administration key so you're going to have to have the dealer wipe the keys and reprogram them

Well that sucks. I was hoping it would be easier/cheaper to get rid of mikey on my car. Thankfully they took off the speed and radio limiter still annoying though. My dealer also quoted me 240 for a new key. I might get a new key if I find out of my car has a remote start module.

You're probably going to have to take it to the dealership you're going to need two keys so if you don't have a second key you're going to have to purchase one and then you're going to have to pay for the labor to have them go into the computer and erase and program two new keys to get rid of it

Hey so my suv died again this morning I jumped it with my battery jumper and that bypassed the mykey and allowed me to start it as an admin and delete the mykeys I had stored
