I'm 68 years old. I've been renting since I was 15. Got my mechanic's license when I was 22. I was a long time ago. I listened to a lot of these videos as a refresher and find them interesting. Many of them are just so well done, but I have to say I wish it would leave the darned music out of them. I think if you're serious about the content, it's completely unnecessary. Anyway, this is another very well done one I think. Appreciate them posting it
I’m 66 mech. since 1975, if you don’t like the music turn it down and put the closed captions on. I think the videos are great and the maker gets to choose.
Absolutely flawless 18 years I've been a mechanic and now I'm trying to get into diagnostics and electrics this video has blown me away always been scared of getting into canbus to find faults the way you've put this across step by step is amazing I actually understood it which is hard for me as I'm more of a practical learner subbed 😊
You're not alone, there are countless 'Mechanics' who get hysterical at the thought of a complex topic, fear of an unknown entity can be daunting. newer technology is a never ending journey of learning.🙂
This is they way how a technition see the world, we know that most failures are some soldering points, the manual check shown in the video is to show you and understand that these black boxes arent black, you need just another point of view..
@robindabank4089 Not everyone who works in the same field perform CAN or OBD disgnostics which can be complicated at times because of all the possible points of failure. I have seen shops with only 1-2 truly knowledgeable diagnostics personnel and the rest of the staff perform mechanical tasks! 😅
From a DIYers perspective... I have watched many of these videos from others including S.D. and this one is by far the best explanation I have seen and makes me confident in diagnosis. Thank You a Million.!
Wow, what an amazing CAN Bus troubleshooting video! This one I saved so that I can review it on a regular basis. It is priceless to have someone so knowledgeable to systematically show us how it is done. A '10' for your presentation! You should also consider writing a book to go with these videos.
Just subbed! Your content seems to be put together well with some good, useful information. As a licensed auto mechanic for 30+ years, I always appreciate learning something new or even just refreshing the old memory every now and then! Lol... Take care everyone and remember, knowledge is power! 👍🏼
Hi Mike. Thank you for the kind words and thanks for the sub! 🙌 It's great to hear that even someone with your experience can take something away from our videos. Thanks again for supporting the channel 👍
He is a killer bee, when it come to teaching, Infact I give him all my vote… Elohim bless you more and more… am one of the grateful fans of your informative videos… thanks and Good health
I give this channel a subscription today because I have been watching it for some months now, and i end up saying if i can be this good or half of this good, to God my life will never remind the same
This is great! I've been looking for a clear and simple to follow video on CAN diagnostics and this is so well explained and easy to follow! Thank you so much!
This is by far the best CAN-BUS diagnostic video I’ve seen in over 2-3 months of learning about CAN-BUS issues on my 2005 Land Rover LR3. Wish TH-cam would have shown me this at the start of my learning journey!
Thanks, your video is inspiring to learn more and more, for me as a Renault owner specially, nobody wants to put hands on the job, and some self called technicians want to replace all the motor, one piece at a time to solve the issues. One question, what if the resistance between high and low speed can becomes crazy moving up to 500 ohms and decending to 50 ohms?
Got a failure by turbo pressure on a D5 volvo, could ne the sensor, a pipe, the turbo, in the end of logic it was a soldering point in the vct actuator.. Resoldered and it works, takes time, but any good diagnose takes time and feel what you are doing.. Great video, thanks how to do it manualy
Thank you Tim for your time and sharing professional insights, even someone like me could understand what CAN BUS is, at least a basisc understanding. Cheers.
I just subscribed. Your video give as a lot of ideas on diagnosing wiring troubles. Im in a auto mechanic school in California and looking for a electrical training shop
Thanks for the video! I subbed to your channel for the good info ! I spent all day today trying to diagnose a Bobcat tracked skid loader that is having electrical gremlins and it won’t power up the display panel. I traced the problem down to a faulty control/display module. Its always a little stressful calling bad modules when they cost $1500 dollars to replace! But based on everything I seen its gotta be the panel.
Agree best simplified by far and heading back to the garage to troubleshoot. I'm working on a project to customize 1996 with a 2017 canbus. I'll be removing some of the canbus devices, but not sure how to get around a device that won't be used anymore. Like the electronic parking brake. But still, I will keep using the manual ebrake. Do I need to loop high w/high etc or how would I terminate the end as in the device did not exist. I will edit it out of the programming as well. Thanks
Hello thanks for a great tutorial. I try to resolve electrical issue on my Passat b6 BMP 2008 DSG car, for a week with no success. Yesterday I take multimeter with me and try to measure 6pin and 14pin from OBD. The result for voltage between 6th pin and ground was 2.5v, pin 14 and ground was 2.5v. I think that not have communication, but this is all of the time. Another test was for resilient. I try 200ohm between pin 6 and pin 14. Result was between 68.1 in most time and 71. I try to remove all positive cables from fuse box near engine and battery, nothing happened with resilient. After that I remove abs plug and again 68.1ohm. Finally I unplug every one cable in engine section and spray it with contact spray, I change fuse box in engine section, change gateway module, after all situation is same. I remember that before mass problem with multiple MILs and going in service mode I have a couple of day, maybe a week MIL alerts for steering. I change battery with new one and maintain alternator. P.S All of scannings with diagnostic tools say that I have a impulsible signals, lost communication with different modules and etc. Please give me advise what to do, because I was in two different car services and nothing happned.
Finally after all these years someone explained can bus in a simple way a even I could understand...so as Denzel Washington said in training day My Nigga 😊😊
amazing video! i have check my vehicle and diagnostics port obd does not have any wire in pin 6 and 14, is that normal? vehicle is and 2001 w168 mercedes
Thanks for creating this content. I’ve searched the internet to course a wiring diagram for my car, but have yet to find one that is either free or at a reasonable price without having to sign up, be a member and say yes to conditions I don’t want.
Throughly enjoyed your tutorial. I learned a lot from it. Only one minor complaint. I find the background music annoying. It be a petty complaint, but I’d rather just focus on the speaker. Sorry if this seems overly petty.
Thank for your very clear instructions. To keep my VW Tiguan asleep, I have to latch the door latch, with door open, otherwise opening my door will wake up CAN system.
The video is good, but for more detailed and accurate troubleshooting, I recommend using an oscilloscope. You can distinguish between main line and sub line issues by examining the waveform.
Great video, thank you. One curios phenomena I have with both of my cars regarding the CAN bus on the ODBII connector, there is no voltage nor any resistance (open circuit) on pin 6 and 14. I tried measuring it with both an oscilloscope and ohm meter. What's going on here? 😀. My cars are Toyota Aygo and Volvo S60. Even when the engine is running there is no signal in the oscilloscope on those pins 🤔
awesome video. i have a quick question: is there any way to power on car headlights on table (using power supply / battery) that are full of LED and using CAN communication. thanks a lot

Hi James, we appreciate your feedback. Thank you for leaving a comment and we hope you found the video useful!
Yes this was a very good video and thank you for that but the music is often distracting and I would prefer it not be included.
You can tell you're sixty-eight years old with your b*tching.
