I tried it with my younger sister. She liked it but to me it smelled and tasted like dog food and I put a lot of seasoning in the burger to mask it but the smell and taste still came through. That texture left a lot to be desired in my opinion
I respect all your opinions, but I do find them really strange. As a vegetarian for most of my life and vegan the last few years, maybe I'm just used to that soy protein taste? Just tastes like food to me. The beyond burger was just a good soy burger (well, a particularly good one, imo. Good rounded flavour, good texture) Honestly, my brief experiences with meat patties gave me a bad aftertaste and lingering texture in the mouth that I didn't like. Maybe it's unfamiliarity on both sides? Our minds just going 'WTF is this different shit?'. I also wonder if there's unconscious cognitive bias forming some of the perceptions here - that you expect it to taste terrible, maybe?
Rookbrains as someone who has never had meat before, when I tried the Beyond burger (0 expectations either way), it had no flavor and a weird aftertaste. Granted I don't really eat meat substitutes all that often so maybe I'm not used to the soy protein?

That's because it's not actually cheese, it's considered a "cheese product" by the FDA. Legally it cannot be called cheese because it's made in a much more processed way, and is not made up of at least 51% curd. It's also not aged or fermented so probably best to stay away from it if you're lactose intolerant like myself, I'll stick to classic Cheddar and Swiss. The wife and I tried making the Jucy Lucy beyond burger. It was easy, delicious, and cheesy! We appreciate you taking a risk with a vegetarian version of this iconic meal. Thanks for being with us during the quarantine.
@Violet Fields l have had several veggie burgers from grocery stores and, while this one didn't taste like real beef, it definitely had a good flavor and texture in my opinion.
@@stonedapegaming7745 That's a good point. Maybe it's just because I'm still learning how to make more complicated stuff for myself. I always feel like I'm going to burn my house down or something because I didn't do something right.
when I tried the impossible whopper for the first time I noticed the smell was a lot different but the taste was pretty close , and yes the burps were horrible !
Beautiful shots of those burgers Emmy. You did such an amazing job making/recreating them. They look absolutely delicious and I would love to try them but I can always try making it at home even though I'm sure nothing compares to the original burger. Thank you for making and sharing this video with us. You're just amazing. Love you Emmy, keep it up.
We occasionally do this on the grill too. Definitely make sure your beef has cooled back down before going to the BBQ. You can use a pan over the fire too if you want to make sure you don't loose cheese crispies. For the patties, I use 2 glass dinner plates. One on the bottom then the bottom (with the little ring) stacked just like you would to put away. The ring keeps it from getting too thin and, depending on the size of the plate, makes sure the burger doesn't squish everywhere. Parchment or wax paper, or even plastic works to help! I occasionally do this just to a regular burger too because I like thin burgers with lots of crust to meat ratio. I don't like medium rare or pink meat either, so it makes it almost dinner style without the huge heavy spatulas.
I recently acquired a second one of those tortilla press things from a family friend. I never thought of using it for something other than a tortilla! I’m excited to give this a try!
I've heard a lot about the beyond meat stuff lately. I'm wondering how artificial it is, does it have GMO's, additives etc etc. I would love to watch a video where you go into depth with those meat substitutes and how they are made. :-)
Almost -if not all- fruits and veggies in the grocery store are GMO's, and alot of the original species of plants don't even exist anymore (look up how a banana used to look before they genetically modified it, that's a big difference!) I am wondering the same thing about the amount of preservatives though, because a wet slab of veggies and grains seem prone to getting funky real quickly without them...
Jens Sigurdson I think she does have a video comparing the two! But my job sells them so I can give you a quick insight! Beyond burgers are gmo free soy free and gluten free! Gets its proteins from peas and a “red meat color” from beets! It’s delicious tbh with a ground chicken type of texture! I recommend the beyond bratwurst too. Super savory and realistic with a “casing”
The preservation is from salt and cooling. As for meat it's usually frozen prior to selling it. Most animals in agriculture are fed feed that has been fortified and is made with GMOs like soy. There's nothing truly natural about our food system. Also most organic products are produced using pesticides and herbicides they are just organic ones and may actually be worse for the environment depending on what they are made from.
GMO is a non-term. Literally everything you eat has been genetically modified, even if you grow your own food. Not through scary "science waves" but through selective breeding. Higher yield crops, bigger yields of meat from farm animals, that's what GMO is.
th-cam.com/video/KyfpipXpxLM/w-d-xo.html No soy at all it's mung beans, pea protein, coconut oil... INGREDIENTS Water, Pea Protein Isolate*, Expeller-Pressed Canola Oil, Refined Coconut Oil, Rice Protein, Natural Flavors, Cocoa Butter, Mung Bean Protein, Methylcellulose, Potato Starch, Apple Extract, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Vinegar, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Sunflower Lecithin, Pomegranate Fruit Powder, Beet Juice Extract (for color) *Peas are legumes. @@mattkilloran thanks for informing me however that is an extremely recent thing. Like. Mid September. It's not available for retail stores to sell... literally anywhere else in the world yet, and Emmy may not live in the 8 states that do sell it.
But how would your educated drive-through-wheels get a daily meal if these 'burger-flippers' didn't exist to make ends meet on their every day journey to pay bills? You are not paying for them, are you?
I prefer the world of restaurant workers actually, the people are so much more down to earth and far less uptight. Besides it's something that many people absolutely love and have a real passion for. I despise those that look down upon anyone because of their job, they usually aren't good people anyway.

I think it’s great for you to show a vegetarian option as well Emmy! I’ve been looking into the reducitarian movement lately, and trying tofu and plant based recipes for a lot of the meals I make. I’m still eating meat occasionally, but it’s wonderful to find vegan options that I actually enjoy eating so I can reduce the amount of overall animal suffering associated. I still have a long way to go, but small steps bring me closer to my goal. I will definitely be trying this one out!

Love the use of highly technical terms like goosh. Your vids are so enjoyable! 🥰😁🍔
Grateful for the vegetarian inclusion! Love you Emmy! ❤️
Hello 👋 how are you doing today
The wife and I tried making the Jucy Lucy beyond burger. It was easy, delicious, and cheesy! We appreciate you taking a risk with a vegetarian version of this iconic meal. Thanks for being with us during the quarantine.
It's my pleasure and I'm so glad y'all tried it and enjoyed it. 😊
Emmy: let me get that "Mm" shot for you guys
Me: *Mmmm*
I did that too 😄
I'm so happy I found your channel! I love your enthusiasm, you sweet personality...and your voice is so soothing! I love your rations videos!
And good choice with the Grain Belt!!!!!!
7:04 "Ooooh yeaaah... Look at thaaat..." *cream flows*
Well, yes. It remains me of some movies.
I tried the Impossible Whopper and l was impressed.
@Violet Fields l have had several veggie burgers from grocery stores and, while this one didn't taste like real beef, it definitely had a good flavor and texture in my opinion.
@Violet Fields You should of tried what we had available in the 90's 😂 We've come a long way
It was good while eating it, but the taste afterwards I could've done without.
Understandable
Plot twist: it's been the same patty the whole time
I really wish I had Emmy's confidence with cooking things I've never cooked before. She always makes it look so easy.
@@stonedapegaming7745 That's a good point. Maybe it's just because I'm still learning how to make more complicated stuff for myself. I always feel like I'm going to burn my house down or something because I didn't do something right.
@@stonedapegaming7745 Brilliant. That makes me feel so much better. Thank you.
@@dachers1238 you have to just do it. Put your fears aside.
when I tried the impossible whopper for the first time I noticed the smell was a lot different but the taste was pretty close , and yes the burps were horrible !
You had me at Juicy. Then Lucy. Then yum.
She annunciates every word she says and I love it
Right?! She's so well-spoken. It's one of the best parts of watching her. It's soothing.
Next burger journey? In-N-Out Double-Double Animal Style.
Tim FromLA yes nothing better. Add whole grill. Yummy
@@lechatbotte. Whole grilled sweet onion. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.
Aaaaah!! I love the red shirt!! 😍
I live near here! I’m soooooo unbelievably happy that you went to Matt’s bar!!!! Makes my heart warm. You are the best
I've been making these since I was a kid but I actually and bacon and onions inside two
welcome2 chaos yum, onions inside. Sounds super tasty
@@rocknroller77 yes sometime sauteed mushrooms and onions with provolone cheese.... sometimes jalapenos just depends
Sounds delicious 👍👍
I liked it with green olives and cheddar. I'll have to try it with beyond and violife.
@@alexiswinter6948 yess I like them too
That’s what I love about you. You appreciate and admit to loving fake processed foods. You have such a refined palate yet you are not bougie.
Omg i love your shirt it’s adorable ❤️❤️
INGREDIENTS

I love how innovative you are Emmy! Tortilla press was genius! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hello 👋 how are you doing today
DO THE FRIED ONION BURGER!!!!!!!! thats my hometowns fave!
Al Boyd is that Oklahoma?
Gotta be Oklahoma!
One of the good things to come out of Oklahoma!
Emmy is the big sister that kills it with educating her fans (her little siblings)! ^^
So delicious 😋
im convinced at this point ur a bot
@@onks1796 😆
I put some diced bits of edam cheese into my beef burger some times. I mix in a bit of old English stuffing and a dash of curry powder as well.
“Tortilla press? Really Emmy? 🤣” :P
The way she said itadakimasu at 7:16 just tells you, that she really couldn't wait to take a bite out of her homemade Juicy Lucy 😁
10:33 did you say "meatadakimasu"? 😂
Thanks for representing Minnesota! Your videos are amazing and you do a great job of giving every dish a fair shake!
The reason you couldn't find the Impossible Burger is that they don't sell it to the public. You'll have to find a restaurant that offers it
treason6661 Burger King
Wegmans has it
@@mattkilloran thanks for informing me however that is an extremely recent thing. Like. Mid September. It's not available for retail stores to sell... literally anywhere else in the world yet, and Emmy may not live in the 8 states that do sell it.
Great video, Emmy! I'm gonna try this myself at home! Could you make a video on poutine? Thanks!
Hello 👋 how are you doing today
Tortilla press, really Emmy? 😆
Been waiting for this DIY vid of this. I Live in Minnesota, but actually prefer homemade variations on it.
I’ve been checking out different recipes for these burgers and “ wow”, yours looked fantastic when you cut into it!
BoomerAdvice...
"Go to college so you won't be some dead beat flipping burgers."
4 years later
"Oh, you think you're too good to flip burgers now?"
I read that in Red’s voice (Eric’s dad from That 70’s Show).
"Boomer" seems to be the new term for people who have common sense on a level that millenials can't comprehend.
Adam Schmahl ok boomer
I appreciate all the work you put into your videos. I am wondering how you like your induction cooker? I have considered getting one, but the reviews and prices are all over the place.
Love being early
Vegetarian appreciating you cooking a version for those that don’t eat meat. I can’t eat onions but would definitely try this with pickles or something else on the bottom 💖
You know Emmy is excited to eat something when she says “Eat the ducky MOSS.” 😂
I make these but I use the small square cut pieces of cheese. I add garlic powder for added flavor.
Wendy's has one similar to this one
I think it’s great for you to show a vegetarian option as well Emmy! I’ve been looking into the reducitarian movement lately, and trying tofu and plant based recipes for a lot of the meals I make. I’m still eating meat occasionally, but it’s wonderful to find vegan options that I actually enjoy eating so I can reduce the amount of overall animal suffering associated. I still have a long way to go, but small steps bring me closer to my goal. I will definitely be trying this one out!
