The first time I visited Minneapolis I went to Matt's twice in one day. Eventually I moved to Minnesota (Duluth) from California and Matt's was a big part of why I fell in love with this state.
Andrew Zimmern was once my food hero as a passionate foodie, however I ran into him and give him a quick wave as I passed him in Brooklyn Park and he basically sighed the biggest sigh as if I had just ruined his day. I know he didn't owe me anything, but he seemed a little dramatic.
Two friends of mine were on the same flight as him. They said hello, and he said hello back, but felt the need to tell everyone in earshot that he wanted to be left alone. No one else on the plane knew who he was.
I've lived in the Twin Cities for 15 years and I'm ashamed to say that I haven't tried the Lucy at Matt's yet. I have had the 5-8 Club though. While I love the atmosphere and other foods at 5-8, I' wasn't a huge fan of 5-8's Lucy because of the buns. Too big and untoasted. By looks alone, Matt's wins. Those fried onions look ridiculously good.
Same here! First time I had 5-8 was super good and the fries was super! Order it again months later and everything was poorly made. Fries was stale, burger seemed more steam and with all the grease made the bun soggy. Haven’t been back. I have to try Matt’s.
That's so crazy seeing Matt's Bar and the corner on Cedar. I lived one house off that corner across the street and my go to bus route for school was across the street. I wonder if that smelly Somalian Pizza spot is still open. Place smelled rancid, but good food. If I could go back to my 01-02 Senior Year.
This was a good documentary. All due respect to Andrew Zimmern, you absolutely need 2 slices of cheese for the proper Jucy Lucy effect. Preferably quartered up and kinda shingled in the center keeping the cheese 1/2 inch from the edge of the patties.
I remember long ago my aunt took me 2 Matt's and we ordered the Jucy Lucy (of course) and we each burned our mouth. I still remember her saying "ow"😂 I remember b4 we got there she was telling me about this burger with the cheese in it and it was called the Jucy Lucy. It was hot but really good.
"What do you think of the people of the people who cut their Jucy Lucys in half?"
"Ohhhh they're in trouble."
😂 legendary
Well nice burgers juicy Lucy 👍🇬🇧
Looks so good❤
The Nook hides their pickles under the wrapper- like a special prize: "There you are you lil rascals!"
meatless burgers are not real burgers

When you see the guy in the tie dye behind the grill you know you're in for a great meal.
Never heard of it, but it looks delicious!
if you come here go to Shamrocks nook and order the Nookie Supreme. Best burger in town hands down. and their onion rings are amazing.
Lucy did drip down my face.
I drips in the morning too...

I believe you! He seems to think he's a big deal.
My brother and I ran into him at msp intl in 2012. We asked for a picture but he was annoyed more than anything else.

I’ve tried the big 4, and maybe 8 or 10 other lesser known places. Matt’s and The Nook are the only two worth talking about.
Matt's on Cedar was my first Juicy Lucy.

4/24 - ok, folks... u tempt me !!! NOW THE NEXT is a tex/mex brisket jucy lucy ...AMEN !!??!!
Imo, Matt's is better than 5-8. Basically built the same, but Matt's is seasoned better.
It’s Matt’s why are we still debating this
😊 well im glad people are happy i can't wait to try one in soo long..

What?
It's actually pretty gross...
I’d like to try Matt’s, but I also don’t want to get shot on Cedar
You're not gonna get shot stop being so dramatic 😂 go get a burger.
Trust me, it’s worth the risk.
Matt's isn't that great. The staff is pretty rude .
I am not impressed.
Who cares?
It's just a Juicy Lucy. There's no Juicy Jucy Lucy.
