I’m relieved she eventually corrected it shortly afterwards. This was an absolute joy to watch and extremely informative.✌️
As a dutchman I can say Charles II was an absolute disaster for the Dutch republic. The dutch gave Charles a safe excile haven but still he waged 2 very unjustified wars against the dutch. Especially the war in 1672 is known in the Netherlands als 'het rampjaar' ('the disaster year' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampjaar). In 1672 England and France, supported by Münster and Cologne, invaded the Netherlands trying to conquer and enslave it. Luckily we were saved by our admiral De Ruyter who kept the English from landing on our shores and also thanks to inundating vast areas of land so the french could not go further into Holland. Meanwhile the rest of the Netherlands was plundered and subjected to extorsion by foreign troops. The Dutch never wanted wars with England, not in 1652, not in 1665 and not in 1672 but the english rulers enforced war on the Dutch, jealous of their wealth and succes while being only a tiny nation. The 'unholy' alliance with Louis XIV against another protestant nation, the Dutch republic, was the most unjustified war of them all. Glad the english parliament refused Charles II any more funds forcing him to seek peace. Due to Charles' support of the French, Louis XVI could conquer more and more dutch-flemish speaking lands and make them into french speaking lands nowadays. Charles II also betrayed the interests of his own country by supporting catholic France. France was Englands biggest threat for the next 180 years and on his own deathbed he became catholic!
I thought Charles II and James II spent their exile in France, w/their Catholic mother, which is why they became entranced with the Catholic religion, or at least influenced by it. Never heard about the Netherlands connection. How very ungrateful!

Ha ha...no....American history is more recent (ergo, less removed from modern thinking). The "Americas" were only discovered in 1492 and not populated (by Europeans) enough to beget sensational stories. Oliver Cromwell and his Puritan movement inspired much immigration (while Puritanism was in effect, it annoyed many who then elected to flee...and after Cromwell's death, Puritan supporters opted to leave rather than return to happy-go-lucky christmas-celebrating etc). Please bring back the other lady!
kindcounselor Oh yes, I like her! :)
My Lady, Charles II's wife Catherine was an attractive lady.
I made it through less than 15 minutes. Got disgusted with ads and turned it off. There are many, many better, commercial free documentaries on Charles II. So much for Timeline.
The young woman in the letter scene is grrrrrr, lol.
Your Lordship, most of Europe was Catholic. I grew up going to the Baptist Church where I was Baptized.
Game of Thwones.
The real plague on Timelibe are these non-stop commercial, makes it totally unwatchable.

I do not understand the re-enactment of Sir Richard Wynn, as if he was the most important character in this story. This did not add to my enjoyment of the documentary, especially the part of his mother.
They could have solved their problems with a constitutional monarchy, but Britain had to learn another lesson with James II first.
John wilmot 2nd earl of rochester. Is me jw apl2.

Ptolemy II, king of Egypt, seized the city in the 3d century BC and from that time until the Middle Ages it was known as Ptolemais.
ad every 3 min.
Nope - doesn't matter what the program - when ads start running every 3-4 minutes...I'm gone.
Glover, daniel.
Meanwhile, Charles is just relaxing in Europe while his country is on fire xD
Abraham Lincoln sounds like Nero
Abraham Lincoln Charles was out there on the bucket brigade during the Great Fire. Don’t take Lincoln’s name in vain.
What you want him to do.he was exiled.
Religions caused so much violence in the past.
And the present - am so over all of it.
@@foxycinnamon7307 I'm embarrassed to consider how future historians will view us. Will they understand that a great many of us were not superstitious sky-guy worshippers ? It is baffling to me that there are still so many who believe in deity/ies. Surely religion should have died out by now !!?!

YET ANOTHER "TIMELINE" VIDEO SPOILED BY VERY POOR AUDIO!!!!!! BACKGROUND DROWNING OUT NARRATOR - VERY UNPROFESSIONAL I'M AFRAID!!!
I wish my American history was this interesting to me, though the fault is my own, I'm sure.
America becomes more interesting when it has more people in it. Anyone not an actual Native American, shares the history of their ancestors. In my case, Scotland/Ireland...in yours....?
American history of this time period would involve Indian raids and land settlement. No castles or democracies.
@@leanie5234 wow! I never, ever thought of it in that way!
Who that girl is
How many died over different interpretations of a book written by backward shepherds?
Anybody who sees this I just found out my nana on my dads side is actually related to Charles the second some how

No greater Soul hath inhabited a House of clay - said of Cromwell, our chief of men; and not of the inbred Stuart monarchy he overthrew.
God bless George Washington. Rid us of that nonsense.
And look at the nonsense we’ve gotten ourselves into!
@@helenchappell6502 King Trump coming soon. The returning prince, Eric and his Rhino, plus his face.
I'm a proud American of English descent. I love my country despite its flaws and I'm also an Anglophile as well due to interest in my ethnic background. I love the Special Relationship that our two countries share. In fact we wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the English colonies in the first place.🇺🇸🇬🇧
@@oldfurniture5865 Who exactly is "we"? It's certainly not the UK! Which is where the religious fanatics came from: all those damn Protestants ruining perfectly fine First Nations w/slavery, patriarchy, hellfire, damnation.
LOL
The images I see doesn't depict a "black boy" which he was called and doesn't depict some one with a swarthy complexion! Those images are lies and false.
What are you some sort of clown? Charles had an Italian Relative so he was only referred to as that because his skin tone wasn't as light as those around him.
Are you one of those silly people who think he was actually black?
@DeVon Straham lol you guys are so laughable in the memoirs of John Mackey 1733 he described Charles ii and a few others as being "black men" with swarthy complexion. Complexion doesn't mean hair color please check a dictionary for the meaning, look up swarthy as well before you make un educated statements. You probably believe Egyptians are white as well 😂🤣.
God you are stupid. Black isn't referring to ethnicity or race, its about his complexion. If you weren't light skinned and fair haired you'd be called "black" during this era. Many people of this era had nicknanes like 'black dog' because of being darker in features
@@rolandopinder3847 Charles II is my direct great grandfather and I am 100% Caucasian European in my dna. We have a darker complexion because of the French connection. BUT our DNA doesn’t lie. Even in Scotland we have the “black” Scots/Irish... that’s just dark hair and complexion. It has nothing to do with African descent at all.
its got more adds than documentarie
The English Civil War should be renamed the Irish & British Civil Wars.
But when James I ascended to the throne it was The Union of The Crowns, & that included Ireland.

Great series but this woman is a terrible narrator Im sure she knows her history but her facial expressions and the way she speaks is supremely irritating!!!

George Washington should have become king of America and remarried and had a son with a new wife who would inherit the crown after George Washington’s death.
Jamie Behun - But that isn’t what George Washington or most of those who fought the revolution wanted.
But that was what the Patriots were rebeling against-- The tyrany of the English crown
He could have. That is what makes it so important that he didn't. I hope you are being sarcastic as well.
After seeing what Monarchys were like in Europe , it was better he was not.
