    I've had some pretty dark spots on my forehead and cheeks for years. My dermatologist finally recommended it to me after many treatments didn't work and I'm surprised how fast it is working! It's only been a good 2 weeks. BUT it's important to have a moisturizer no matter how oily your skin already is. So what i usually do is apply a sunscreen w moisturizer. (CeraV or another good spf).
    Before my derma was giving me the benzoyl treatments but it wasn't really helping to unclog my pores fast enough...so I think sticking the the salicylic acid is a game changer.

    I remember when I moved to Thailand for half a year I started struggling with acne because of hot and wet weather. So I couldn’t find salicylic acid no where. I needed to use another products to reduce my acne. Fortunately after 3 months my facial skin got better. In my opinion salicylic acid is one of the best thing to remove oil from the face but I think it’s not enough to cure the skin completely.

    I am almost 60 years old and a few years ago I developed a lot of congestion on my cheeks (probably slow cell turnover after menopause??). I tried using products with many different ingredients but it wasn’t until I used salicylic acid during the day that I started to see results. I use tretinoin 5 to 6 times a week at night but salicylic acid is what helped the congestion. I use a gentle 2% product.

    I started using an oil free face wash with salicylic acid for my acne and in three days i was pretty much completely clear except for the fact that it was so strong that my lips started almost like falling off and i cant smile because they crack open and it hurts so much so be aware that the product does work but its really hard on your dry areas. That also might’ve been because it was 2% salicylic acid which was way too rough as a starter product

      Jennifer Polley Oh... Yes, please! I've been thinking setting up a routine for myself because I've been having a lot of acne lately and I've been considering adding it to the list of products, but I do for sure want to know first how it works.

    • @AaronW-ww4ds
      @AaronW-ww4ds 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      If benzoyl peroxide isn't working your acne is most likely not caused by bacteria or the dosage of benzoyl peroxide is too low the lowest is 2.5ml and the highest is 10% but you'll never get put straight on the highest dosage because you will have negative effects since acne is caused by hormones , excess oil production , hair follicles clogged by oil , dirt and dead skin cells and bacteria so diet and everything else is actually completely irrelevant and if diet or lifestyle change works for people they never actually had acne since acne doesn't have a cure it can only be treated

      acne treatments contain salicylic acid , glycolic acid and benzoyl peroxide your best off asking an actual dermatologist but from what I've read it can be used together but retinol should only ever be applied at night because that's when the skin repairs itself and always wear an spf even if it's the lowest recommended spf which is spf 15 otherwise you'll cause dark sports/ hyper pigmentation which is a nightmare to correct

  • @juliamundt101
    @juliamundt101 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I remember my Dr suggesting using a SPF moisturizer with the 2% SA and I thought that was insane. I had oily skin, but with SA I had dry flaking while I adjusted to its use. So yeah, a moisturizer was the right call. Seems
    Counter intuitive tho.

    Is there a difference between keratolytics and chemical exfoliants, or is "keratolytic" really just an umbrella term for anything that helps encourage cell turnover?
    Like, is retinol considered a keratolytic?

    • @Acidfunkish
      @Acidfunkish 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Manas Patel You can use both with no negative effects, but only the treatment pad will have any real benefit.
      You should only keep a cleanser on your skin for 10-20 seconds, and that's nowhere near enough to get the benefit. Leave-on treatments are the best, but you don't necessarily need 5% salicylic acid. If that causes any discomfort or redness (when it is supposed to reduce redness), you should reduce the frequency of use or percentage or both.
      You should also likely be using a non-comedogenic moisturiser after the leave-on treatment!

    IRREGARDLESS. IS. A. WORD.
    The word is used incorrectly more often than not, but it's actually supposed to be used emphatically. To elaborate, this is the example provided by a lexicographer for Mirriam-Webster:
    "Dad, let me borrow the car. I'm a really good driver.”
    "Regardless, I'm not comfortable.”
    "Oh but come on. I'll get it detailed, and I'll put gas in it.”
    "Irregardless, no.”
    See? It's a pretty nifty little word, huh?
    Remember that it's used for EMPHASIS to point to the end of a particular discussion or part of a discussion. So if someone is having a discussion about an in-depth subject, and they feel as if they need not provide further details, they can use it to help draw the lecture or conversation to a close.
    Seriously... to the people whining about a word and trying to make yourselves feel better, you could have learned all of this by googling "Is irregardless a word?" -_- Ignorance is not admissible in the age of information.

      Anna Howley That is weird. But could still be your diet. Grains and gluten can cause skin problems. I switched to a keto diet, no grains and my skin is completely clear. I also added hyaluronic acid and an oil to moisturize. Often times oily skin is a sign you actually have dry skin and the oil glands over compensate. I never thought I had dry skin because I've always been oily, but after using an oil for a moisturizer, I was shocked. My skin is very well balanced now. Not nearly as oily as it had been. I still get an oily nose, chin, t zone, but far less.

      Tara, "irregardless" is seen as a redundancy because "regardless" already means "despite the circumstances" so "irregardless" would seem to mean "despite despite the circumstances". It's kind of like using a double negative. Most dictionaries say that "irregardless" is an incorrect usage, but languages change all the time and it can be tricky to really say whether something is an "actual" word or not, since linguistics are more complex than that.

I take vitex for my hormones/chin acne, lightly exfoliate with a warm konjac sponge, put on PC and then moisturise with jojoba oil. My skin has improved so much. I've never spent a decent amount on skin care until now but it has lasted ages and I'm really happy w the results. recommend!

    • @bidinosaur

      I really discourage Paula's Choice. It made my acne SO bad I was eating out of straw because it was just too painful. The brand said it was "purging" but it went on for over 2 months. I couldn't handle it anymore. Instead I started researching Korean inspired multistep system. My night time routine is lengthy, but my skin is completely different than it was a year ago. I have found some of my holy grail products while I am still on the search for others. Focus on one step at a time. Don't spend a lot of money on cleansers because you wash them off in 60 seconds. Cerave is a great brand at the drugstore or Target and is also cruelty free.
      My skin isn't perfect yet as I still have some cystic acne now and again. My dermatologist recommended me steaming my face between products. That is the #1 thing that helped my skin. It took work on my part, but in about 3 weeks my skin really started to change dramatically. Now I only need to do it once or twice a week, depending on my desire. I will do more if I am having a more than a couple of cystic spots.
