I tested besan flour as facewash, but it rather lead to skin rash. As a result, later, I switched to littleextraa riceberry face wash, and trust me, my skin has greatly benefitted from this and got better than how it was... pimple and spots reduced, blemishes faded, pore size reduced a lot, and skin has become more glowing and smoother, and I am getting compliments from friends these days.

I feel much more prepared to purchase products that I think will work for my skin issues. I should share that I have a board certified derm that I see every six months for skin cancer checks. Walgreen's has a great dupe for Cera Ve; it is also a gel, also has ceramides, vitamin d, and is not at all irritating, although caveat - I am very oily, especially at this time of the year. I generally use it 2x/day now, but 1x/day in winter, alternating w/a hydrating cleanser at night when I use retinol. I've never had a problem with eyelid drying, as you described. They don't give the percentage SA, but I would assume .5% since 2% would be super drying. It's not drying but does a really good job of removing the oil. They're having a sale right now, buy 1, get 1 half off if anyone is interested!

I recently got a free sample of the Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser and also the Blemish Control Gel. I am a HUGE fan of both of them! They contain ceramides and niacinamide in addition to SA so I don't find it irritating in the slightest, and I find it to be quite effective! Would absolutely purchase it with my own money - each product is around $20 AUD.

I started using the up&up salicylic acid face wash a while ago and my skin already feels a lot smoother. I use to get two to three pimples a day when I was a teenager and it has lessened up since I turned 20 but I still get acne very often. Since I started using the face wash, I don’t get huge breakouts anymore and they aren’t as common. I’m definitely seeing an improvement in my acne. The only problem is I have dry skin so it can be a bit drying, which is why I pair it with the Eyude House hydro barrier cream. Thank you for the recommendation!

Salicylic Acid has always been so good to me. As an oily girl, SA has really been vital to manage my acne and prevent post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It's honestly my go to for almost instant results. Within days of using it, my acne lesions are less noticeable and my skin texture significantly improves. I can always rely on it.

I have acne, but my skin is also quite prone to dehydration, and I really second your suggestion of not using too much! Not only does it make sure it gets completely rinsed off, but it also makes the cleanse itself more gentle. Many SA cleansers are formulated to be a bit stronger in terms of cleansing properties, and if you find that it leaves you feeling a dry, using less can make a big difference! There's less surfactent going on your face, which makes the cleanse more mild. The cleansers with pumps can mislead us to believe that one full pump is necessary/okay, when in reality, less than half a pump would be adequate to clean most people's faces, and a full pump can leave a lot of people feeling dry.
I discovered this initially by just trying to save money - I wanted to reduce how much product I was using as much as possible, so I started experimenting with the quantity of cleanser used. With most foaming cleansers, I learned that a pea sized amount can be sufficient to not only adequately cleanse my face but also to minimise the dehydrating effects of cleansing. I apply this rule to all cleansers I've used, regardless of the active ingredients, and I've been consistently shown that I can get away with using less than I initially expected. Cream/non-foaming cleansers are a bit different, though, because they have somewhat less spreadability due to the lack of lather and are usually very mild already.
This habit has also reduced the frequency with which I buy cleansers. These days, I opt for ones with a shelf life of 6-12 months because I take a good while to finish even 200ml cleansers.

I actually use the Neutrogena sal shampoo once in a while because I get a lot of buildup on my scalp, not from products, but just general dead skin. One time I decided to lather my face along with my hair, and I discovered that maybe it’s the 3% salicylic acid, but it really seemed to make my face feel smooth after the shower that time. So I periodically when I do use that shampoo, I will use it on my face as well. It does not dry me out or irritate me.

I’ve been using salicylic acid cleansers from Versed, Herbivore, and Current State. They all have some bonus anti-inflammatory ingredients thrown in and I’ve found them to be less drying and irritating than Cerave’s salicylic acid cleansers. The Versed one, in particular, is really creamy and not drying and also contains blue tansy. The Herbivore one is a gel consistency, but has a ton of anti-inflammatory ingredients thrown in, such as blue tansy, aloe, zinc PCA, and tumeric. The Current State one has a creamy consistency and contains aloe and green tea and a handful of other exfoliating acids on top.

I wasn’t able to use salicylic acid until very recently. Every product I tried was irritating or too drying. For a while I even thought I was allergic to it. But I tried The Ordinary’s anhydrous solution, and I had no problems with it at all. Then I bought Naturium’s salicylic acid body wash in hopes it would help with KP (it hasn’t). I noticed that it says it’s formulated to be used on the face as well, so I tried it on my face when I started seeing more pimples and congestion, and I can’t believe how well I’m tolerating it! I only use it a few times a week, but I love it for this purpose. I will often apply a little bit to my oily/congested areas for a couple minutes before I get in the shower to give it more of a chance to work.

I use Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser. It has Salicylic Acid and my 66 year old skin loves it. There is a bit of fragrance and menthol in it but it's very mild and, as Dr. Dray always says, fragrance is okay in products that you wash off. I love a cream cleanser for my dry skin. It gently exfoliates and is non drying. I use it twice a day along with my retinol with no reaction. I use this cleanser in the AM followed by Gold Bond Pure and then my sunscreen....I love CVS Clear Zinc Lotion 50 Sunscreen. At night, I again use Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser followed by Gold Bond Retinol Overnight and then, after it dries, Differin. Hope this helps anyone with dry, "wiser" skin. Thanks, Dr. Dray for giving me beautiful skin. Love your videos. Watch every day!

Thanks for sharing! I had a question about using it on my almost-60 skin! I also use adapalene at night, but I still have noticeable blackheads on my nose. I've been considering adding an SA cream or solution in the morning, but a cleanser might be better to start with.

I prefer the gentle cleanser verses a leave-on salicylic gel or cream. This way you're washing away the salicylic acid leaving just a small amount behind. Just a thought. It works for me. Hope you find the same results.

A great salicylic acid facial cleanser that I've been loving lately is the Eclat Salicylic Acid Cleanser. I ordered it from Amazon for $6, so it's very affordable, and, again, amazing. I find it be incredibly gentle and non drying. My skin actually feels quite smooth and moisturized after using it. It's formulated with aloe vera, tea tree oil, licorice root extract and green tea extract. I find it be a great cleanser for my mature skin.

I feel like benzoyl peroxide works better than SA on my acne prone skin. Most of my acnes are flammable cystic acne. I have oily skin, and my face isn’t sensitive. I usually wash my face with Panoxyl and leave it on my skin for 5-10 minutes in the morning and use SA cleanser at night. It dried out my acne within a few days.

I have seborrheic dermatitis behind my ears and keratosis pilaris on both my arms and I can attest that salicylic acid cleanser actually helps.
It helps control the flakiness of my ears (which unfortunately returns if I try a new hype face wash , sorry I'm weak to the hype😅)
I've been using the cerave SA lotion on my arms for long but haven't really seen improvements until I started washing the KP on my arms with the face wash with continued use of the lotion. It's noticeably smoother than before.
The face wash I use is the Acne Care variant from Senka. A japanese brand under Shiseido. Really effective in keeping my face pimple free too. Just try not to get it on your hair as I wash my neck and the back of my neck with it too and it left my ends dry because I do leave it on while I wash the rest of my body to get the SA in it to work.

This is just my experience with Salicylic Acid face wash... I guess I have sensitive skin because my face started breaking out everywhere after using it only a few times then I stopped... all because I thought it would make my face "smoother" when actually it caused painful under skin pimples (which I rarely get) and now I have dark spots from where they were. Instead try using a gentle cleanser to avoid from what happened to me.
