The title of the song means "Father of all" and is in Old Nordic. The first invocation is towards Odin's ring. Draupnir or Draupner was the magic ring that was given to Odin by the dwarf Brok, who created it with his brother Sindre. It had the power to make eight copies of equal value every nine nights. The second invocation is to the wolves that accompany the god Odin. Geri and Freki. The translation of their names would be "ravenous and greedy" The third invocation is to Sleipnir, Odin's horse. In Scandinavian mythology, Sleipnir or Sleipner (from Old Norse: "the slippery") is an eight-legged gray horse belonging to the god. Sleipnir is mentioned in the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, the latter of which was written by Snorri Sturluson in the 13th century. In both sources it is indicated that Sleipnir belonged to Odin, and was the son of Loki and Svaðilfari "from the Old Norse 'unfortunate traveler'" Svaðilfar is a stallion horse that begets the eight-legged horse Sleipnir with Loki (who took the form of a mare) . Svaðilfari belonged to a giant they called Hrimthurs. This giant was the one who built the walls of Asgard. Sleipnir is described as the best of horses, and is sometimes ridden by Odin in battles and even to reach the realm of death ... Hel. The Prose Edda indicates that he was gray. He was so fast that he could go from one end of the horizon to the other in a single day. Sleipnir symbolizes the eight winds that blow from their respective cardinal points. Another feature is that he had runes engraved on his teeth. The fourth invocation is for the ravens of Odin, Hugin and Munin. In Norse mythology Hugin and Munin, are a pair of ravens associated with the god Odin. Hugin and Munin traveled around the world collecting news and information for Odin. Hugin is the "thought" and Munin is the "memory." Both were sent at dawn to collect information and returned in the afternoon. They perched on the god's shoulders and whispered all the news into his ears. The spear of Odin is also named. Gungnir or Gungner was Odin's spear. The word means production of a violent tremor or shaking, as it supposedly shook anyone who was struck by it vividly. According to mythology, it was made by the sons of Ivald (the dwarves), and was given to Odin by Loki in compensation for stealing Sif's hair. Sif was the wife of the god thor. Odin launches onto the battlefield wearing a golden helmet, glowing armor, and his Gungnir spear. The word "gægogæ" appears to be a kind of magical invocation or battle cry present in a 5th century medallion / coin inscription, and is comparable to the "g͡ag͡ag͡a" of the Spear of Kragehul I, which is also believed to be a war cry or chant. I shout, shout, shout this spear. Gaegogae, Gaegogae, Gaegogae screamed loudly. The fifth invocation is to the god Odin, calling him by all the names by which he was known. Mighty of the court, the wise, the dear, the one who talks to wolves, the welcome, the pale, god of desires, inspirational, chief, red-haired, hooded, wand-bearer, famous lord, god of the hanged, wanderer of the mist, the needy, father of Yule, the tall, rider on the attack, father of all, tree of victory, father of victory, the one with the lost eye, who throws the spear, shining eye, shaking spear / shield, leader of the people, the one with knowledge, bearer of cloak, keeper of secrets, the terrible, the stormy. By the way. All the clothes that the musicians and warriors wear are based on Viking clothes rescued by archaeologists and are extremely precise.
The theme of the band isn’t just Nordic, and they tend to mix in the whole Germanic pantheon together as a whole, reaching all the way from pre-Roman era practices all the way up til the end of the “Viking” age
Heilung can't make bad music. Fun facts: This performance was the first public appearance of them as a band. When they toured the US some time back, they invited native Americans to join as warriors on stage. And they are involved with making the Soundtrack of Hellblade 2. One of their other classic songs "In Maidjan" is used for the trailer and you should REALLY check that one. This song is more like the intro to the concert, In Maidjan is a banger. The Charismatic Voice has a wonderful 1 hour interview with Maria Franz, the female vocalist, check it out if you have the time. And ask the label to send you Heilung's "Fuck Corona" Shirt. ;-)
All original cultures share certain commonalities, Heilung do their ancestors proud and hearing that they asked our cousins to join them on stage when visiting the US shows great respect. Unexpected shoutout to my home province Newfoundland (Ktaqmkuk in the Mi'kmaw language, L'nui'smk).
The young'un is quite articulate. And they both seem like great big potentially scary-looking dudes who dig hard, heavy music -- which they clearly are. But they're also so sweet and nerdy. I really appreciate how they never pause videos mid-play -- and always have a genuine analysis afterward. Well done, gentlemen. \m/ Respect from Los Angeles.
I would've recommended krigsgaldr as the first song, not alfadhirhaiti. Don't get me wrong, this one is great too, but if someone is new to the concept, krigsgaldr is easier to get into. You almost fall into trance with these songs.
Exactly, but contrarily I had that experience with Alfadhirhaiti and i listened to the songs in chronological order live from the album. Krigsgaldr was amazing as well but for me personally the powerful energy of this one alone swept me off my feet!
Heilung is great. I even bought the blu-ray of their first live concert LIFA live at Castlefest. High lung, without the space in between. Iron Age to Viking era texts and musical instruments. In Maidjan Krigsgaldir Hamrer hippyer All from the LIFA live at Castlefest concert. Or their new song Norupo; official video.
This sounds like a Berserker ritual to me cause he called the names of Odin's familiars, Geri, Freki, Sleipnir, Hugin and Munin... The ritual for the Mad one..
Awww man.... I think dude woulda liked krigsgaldr better as an intro... dude even plays a shield on it and she plays human bones.... and there’s English lyrics.
The man on the left looks as if he has some Pacific Islander in him he would like Hakkaerskalder they did that at this same performance it’s an homage to the Maori Haka. Krigsgaldr is also a good song for you both to react to. The Haka is short and not a song, but it’s a good one I’m obsessed with the Haka something about it rocks this Norse/Scot lass!
Alfadhir och Allfather in swedish means the father of all, in other word Odin. It is almost Like a pray or chant to Odin and all regarding him, like sleioner (his horse) Hugin and Munin (the two ravens that is scouting the world for Odin) and so on. Being the god of war this is a war chant before going to battle. Dripper, Greedy, Ravenous, Sleioner, Swaying one Hail, Hail, Hail I dedicate to the spear, Gagaga, Gagaga, Gagaga I yell resoundingly Thought, Memory, And he's called Allfather Mighty Thuler, Wise one, Striver, Wolfspeaker, Welcomed one, Pale one, God of witches, Inciter, Cheiftain, Readhead, Hooded one, Wandwielder, Famous lord, God of the hanged, Nebulizer, Needed one, Yulefather, Evenhigh, Attacking rider, Allfather, Victory tree, Father of victory, One with a missing eye, God with painted shield, Flashing eye, Shieldshaker, Leader of the crowd, One with knowledge, Shaggy-cloack wielder, Guardian of secrecy, Terible one and Stormy one.
I’m with Antonio on this one. I’ve never heard of the band and had no idea what to expect. Throughout the song, I thought it was all a huge build-up and then the song proper would begin. So I was a bit surprised when the song actually ended. That said, I didn’t dislike it; I was just confused. The actual performance was very cool as I half expected Ragnar Lothbrok to make an appearance.
The only thing wrong with Alfatirhaiti is that it’s too fucking short. I just want it go on and on and keep building. And then it ends. I guess are worse things to complain about than ”can’t get enough”, though.
I can understand how its a bit hard to get into this music piece, as it is largely a large list of the names of the all father, repeated monotone, and people are like : 'what the heck is this'.
The idea behind this song is a war chant by Celts/Gauls, before the Norse. This group project employs traditional world music including Throat Singing, Pacific Haka, Norse poetry and pagan ritual. All costumes, props and instruments are hand made and/or converted by the group representing different European areas and tribes from different countries also and time periods.
Celtic tribes did not worship Wotan/Wodan/Odin, but a totally different pantheon of deities. It was the Germanic tribes like Chatti, Frisians, Cheruskians etc. in Northern/Western Europe who laid the base for Nordic religion.
this is my gym music.

@@johnparks4345 The band calls its own music "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe" ... their songs are in my daily playlists.
🐐

I felt like my ancestors came up and stirred up something in my soul.
This song is about our All Father (Oden)

Wonder why they fainted??? Its so cool you got to see them live, I'm really hoping i can get to one!!!!!
@Tommy Xenogroth because of trance
A very good choice of song, this song captures some of the incredible power of Heilung😀😀

I would probably have personally chosen to take the songs Krigsgaldr, In Maidjan or Norupo first instead of this song.
Nah, this one's perfect. First song on the first album.
This was my first song.
