This is the incantation of the Allfather, Odin! The first lyrics are his ring, wolves, spear, and his eight-legged horse. The second chant is repeated nine times; the number of days Odin hung from Yggdrasil. The last long chant are all names of the Allfather. Heilung is amazing to listen to. They call their music "amplified history" and in an interview with Kai (the male main singer), they try to make as much of their performance as natural and handmade as possible. They believe in bringing the soul of our ancestors to us through their music. Amazing group, love them.

In Maidjan and Krigsgaldr are the other two really popular songs from this, their first concert ever. In maidjan was the first song in the arrangement.
But futhork fygija ear (sp?) is the real "trip" of the concert.

It actually feels like you're participating in a shamanic ritual, and it is a truly unique experience.

  • @Nidels
    @Nidels 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

The title of the song means "Father of all" and is in Old Nordic.
The first invocation is towards Odin's ring. Draupnir or Draupner was the magic ring that was given to Odin by the dwarf Brok, who created it with his brother Sindre. It had the power to make eight copies of equal value every nine nights.
The second invocation is to the wolves that accompany the god Odin. Geri and Freki. The translation of their names would be "ravenous and greedy"
The third invocation is to Sleipnir, Odin's horse. In Scandinavian mythology, Sleipnir or Sleipner (from Old Norse: "the slippery") is an eight-legged gray horse belonging to the god. Sleipnir is mentioned in the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, the latter of which was written by Snorri Sturluson in the 13th century. In both sources it is indicated that Sleipnir belonged to Odin, and was the son of Loki and Svaðilfari "from the Old Norse 'unfortunate traveler'" Svaðilfar is a stallion horse that begets the eight-legged horse Sleipnir with Loki (who took the form of a mare) . Svaðilfari belonged to a giant they called Hrimthurs. This giant was the one who built the walls of Asgard. Sleipnir is described as the best of horses, and is sometimes ridden by Odin in battles and even to reach the realm of death ... Hel. The Prose Edda indicates that he was gray. He was so fast that he could go from one end of the horizon to the other in a single day. Sleipnir symbolizes the eight winds that blow from their respective cardinal points. Another feature is that he had runes engraved on his teeth.
The fourth invocation is for the ravens of Odin, Hugin and Munin. In Norse mythology Hugin and Munin, are a pair of ravens associated with the god Odin. Hugin and Munin traveled around the world collecting news and information for Odin. Hugin is the "thought" and Munin is the "memory." Both were sent at dawn to collect information and returned in the afternoon. They perched on the god's shoulders and whispered all the news into his ears.
The spear of Odin is also named. Gungnir or Gungner was Odin's spear. The word means production of a violent tremor or shaking, as it supposedly shook anyone who was struck by it vividly. According to mythology, it was made by the sons of Ivald (the dwarves), and was given to Odin by Loki in compensation for stealing Sif's hair. Sif was the wife of the god thor. Odin launches onto the battlefield wearing a golden helmet, glowing armor, and his Gungnir spear.
The word "gægogæ" appears to be a kind of magical invocation or battle cry present in a 5th century medallion / coin inscription, and is comparable to the "g͡ag͡ag͡a" of the Spear of Kragehul I, which is also believed to be a war cry or chant.
I shout, shout, shout this spear. Gaegogae, Gaegogae, Gaegogae screamed loudly.
The fifth invocation is to the god Odin, calling him by all the names by which he was known.
Mighty of the court, the wise, the dear,
the one who talks to wolves, the welcome,
the pale, god of desires, inspirational, chief,
    red-haired, hooded, wand-bearer, famous lord,
god of the hanged, wanderer of the mist,
the needy, father of Yule, the tall,
rider on the attack, father of all, tree of victory,
father of victory, the one with the lost eye,
who throws the spear, shining eye,
shaking spear / shield, leader of the people,
the one with knowledge, bearer of cloak,
keeper of secrets, the terrible, the stormy.
    A hug.

The mystery instrument is a ravanahatha. It's an ancient instrument from India that is believed to be the first kind of string instrument played with a bow. This one was made for Maria by an authentic Indian artisan and at the time of this concert was strung with his own daughter's hair. (Since replaced with horsehair as several of their other human-based pieces have had to be replaced with animal parts to pass customs)

Hello !! FINALLY !!! HEILUNG so great to see your reaction !!
Heilung means healing - in concert some people are in "transe" because of the shamanic vocals, try the medley with Maria Franz called : Maria Franz of Heilung - LIFA vocal
    you will probably love it
In Maidjan : the BO of Hellblade..
the show LIFA was their first performance all together as a band in Castlefest - a festival each year, with cosplay and concerts
other bands you could try OMNIA (alive) and SONGLEIKR (Ulvetime)
    have a great day :)

On a more serious note: throat singing was used in pagan germanic religion to invoke magic by singing songs of a specific rhyme pattern "like a raven" called Galster in German or Galdr in the north.
While i am not aware of this tradition having survived in German folk songs I think that the tradition is still being uphold by some of our northern kin in Sweden and Norway (in that i know of some swedes who swore bone and axe that their grandmas would sometimes sing in throat singing to them when they have family gatherings. Though i am still not certain wether they weren't just taking the piss ^^

    • @atheist101
      @atheist101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Such a shame so much of that time has been erased. The crusades really stamped out pagan history, some we will never get back. I'm so happy people are starting to bring it back, that's one of the reasons I love this group so much. It's as close as we can get to what would have been done in that time

Welcome my friend to the realm of Heilung. They will release the primal right from your DNA those you are sensitive can feel it. It can change you. I recommend the song "In Maidjan" (means to corrupt) it will take you away and most of all it features Maria (prophetess) vocal range and ability. And if you want to add a little cardio to your gym workout then I gighly recommend the song "Hamrer Hippyer" its like a rave party from 10,000 bc. All songsfrom the same show. Loved the react!

Maria Franz (the female band member) is really nice and down to earth when she's out of character - so different to here! 'The Charismatic Voice' channel on TH-cam did an interview with her - so funny to see her in normal clothes and not in this make-up/costume. I think her character here is meant to be a prophetess from pre-Viking times.
