I recently switched from retinol to adapalene and was blown away by how much better my skin is responding to it! I mostly get hormonal breakouts but I noticed that every time I used the retinol products (as I tested several that have been recommended here trying to find what works best for me) a red patch would flare up on my cheek. That patch isn’t irritated by the adapalene. I think I may have developed rosacea, so also thank you for talking about rosacea on your channel. I have some more products I want to try after I give myself some more time to fully adjust to the adapalene. I can use it every other day with no problems, so I’m gonna try every day soon. My pores seem smaller and my skin is consistently smoother overall. Plus less redness! You have also helped me help my pre-teen, and I’m so thankful she doesn’t have to experience acne the way I did. She is using adapalene, too! I learned how to create two different skin care routines to treat different concerns and needs, love you Cassandra💛💛

In India, tretinoin is for just INR 170 bucks and prescription is mandatory. My dermat suggested benzoyl peroxide creamy wash followed by clindamycin in the day time and soframycin mixed with tretinoin 0.05% in the night time only on active acne areas. It just becomes flaky if i start using this routine for more than a week, however it really dries out active acne. I use this solid routine when my skin goes crazy. Otherwise I would only use salicylic acid based cleanser followed by olay retinol moisturizer in the night time and call it a day 😛

I'm just coming up to the end of three months on Treclin Gel (combo of both the antibiotic clindamycin and tretinoin) - it has cleared up the cystic acne spots I used to get on my chin all the time. I'm just about to be moved over to Differin as a maintenance treatment essentially to help deal with some of the dark marks left behind and just to ensure that everything really is cleared up. I've been told to go on this for at least a month but it will be a 3-month prescription amount. My skin did slightly struggle with the Treclin at first - irritation, dry skin, etc. and my skin went a bit oily again as I had to come off the products I already had in my routine such as niacinamide that had really helped with oiliness up to that point. Hopefully Differin will finish everything off and in a few months I won't need anything. I have been told the acne could come back over time, so will watch out for that and go back on prescription if needed!

My main attraction to both is the evidence behind possible skin cancer prevention by forcing skin cell turnover in actinic keritosis lesions. I can’t explain how much acne has affected my mental health. I’m in middle school, and female going through puberty, and I get to deal with the “beauty” standards. I struggle with facial acne, and Keratosis Polaris (KP) on my cheeks, arms, and thighs. There are nights when I will look in the mirror and immediately start crying because I hate my skin so much. I’ll skip school on my skin’s worst days because I just can’t deal with it. And my mom knows I struggle with my self image, and when she sees me breaking down I’m just told “nobody cares, it’s normal, nobody is gonna notice they’re not that close to see.” I’ve recently started seeing a dermatologist, and she prescribed me Tretinoin a few months ago. I kid you not, she simply told me “Use this on your face, just a pea sized amount on your problem areas.” Just that, nothing else. I went home that day not knowing anything about this product. I wish I did research, but I used it every night and within a few days I saw my skin barrier damaged, red, irritated, and peeling. I immediately quit thinking “oh well. Maybe it just doesn’t work for me.” Since then, I’ve picked it back up and done my research! (This video, along with many others) I’m restarting my journey, and now understand “the purge.” Currently on week 2, so im not that far in but I can see my skin start to purge. Wouldn’t be where I am without content creators like Cass!!

Adapalene targets 2 retinoid receptors: RAR-β and RAR-γ. Tretinoine targets 3: RAR-α, RAR-β and RAR-γ. We have 6 in total (add also the RXR- α, β γ). So it depends on each person. Maybe my problem is on RAR-α so adapalene won' t be my cuppa in this case. It' s just about finding out wich retinoid fits better for us. I already got good results with 0.1 retinal, but I wanted to go up a notch, so I switched first to adapalene and then to tretinoin. I am now on 0.05 but I still sandwich, otherwise I get flaky like a croc, not like with adapalene though. My main concern at 37 are wrinkles and fine lines but I had acne flairs up due to hormonal changes. My skin is still evolving and for me, my most sensitive skin is on the chin, I can barely put any product on there, whereas I can indulge freely on my periorbital area. I definitely recommend sandwiching otherwise my skin seems like I have never touched a glass of water in years

I think it’s helped a bit with my forehead wrinkle fine lines. I’m really happy that the brand AcneFree is cruelty free. I did have to switch to a moisturizer without any actives because it burned when used after the adaplene and previously I hadn’t dealt with much skin sensitivity. Also had to drop my salicylic acid face cleansers because they burned when using adapalene also so I have not used any benzo peroxide products since starting adapalene. So idk who can layer multiple products because I can’t.

I started using AF brand adapalene gel at age 42½ after asking my dermatologist for a Rx for tretinoin and she wouldn't give me one because I "didn't need it". (That was a supreme bummer because I had uneven texture, enlarged pores, find lines, a growing forehead wrinkle and naturally really poor skin cellular turnover). I was looking for something to minimize wrinkles and signs of aging that was more potent than the OTC stuff i had been using for 3 years.
My doctor told me that adapalene gel was just as effective for anti aging, that it was cheap, and could be purchased OTC. I've been using it (along with a plethora of other anti-aging and skin resurfacing products like lactic acid) for 1 ½ years now and I can say it has definitely helped smooth my fine lines around my eyes, my 11's and my forehead. I'm 44½ years old now, and my skin does look improved, but I know in my heart that Tretinoin would be much more effective at reducing my fine lines and wrinkles.

I don’t have acne, but melasma and ageing. Am using SPF50 broad spectrum sunscreen every day, several times a day. Also using a tretinoin mixture since July. From April to late July used good OTC retinol products. Still use retinols occasionally. One of my prescriptions has hydroquinone, and right now I’m taking a 2-month break from that formula. Thank you for your videos, @CassandraBankson!

Hey Cassandra, I just ordered my first tretinoin from NURX. I’M IN MY 60S AND I ACTUALLY HAVE PRETTY GOOD SKIN. I DO HAVE SOME HYPER PIGMENTATION FROM SUN DAMAGE
I’m a little nervous that my skin might have a reaction so I’m wondering how to apply this cream to work my way up to normal usage. Do I cut it with another face cream do I spread it thinner, do I add water? Any tips would be greatly appreciated

My dermatologist doesnt wanna bump me up to tretinoin .05 so im using my tretinoin .025 with adapalene at the same time together to see if it works any faster. (My skin is very resistant to any irritation so i know that my skin can handle a stronger tretinoin)

My experience with the vitamin A family was strange but amazing. I tried adapalene twice (during the years 2018 and 2022).

In the first attempt, the result was very terrible, redness, dryness, irritated skin, and angry acne, (I was using it very wrongly), then I stopped using it, and in 2022, I decided to try it again, the result was amazing,

With a sunscreen suitable for my skin, a moisturizer suitable for my skin, an excellent cleanser, and a lot of understanding of my skin, I was able to get the results very impressive, thank you Cassandra for the helpful content

I've been using differin gel for 1.5 years i still break up sometimes but main problem is my chin not so textured when i touch it however some lightings make it looks worse so should i started to use tretinoin for more visible results?

I've used adapalene since June, and I haven't seen a huge difference. I still have hormonal breakouts predominantly on my chin and dark hyperpigmentation afterward. When I was on the regular birth control pill, my skin was so beautiful. Now, I'm only eligible for the progesterone only pill, and it definitely doesn't have those helpful side effects. I have taken a few photos to track my progress, and the marks do seem to be fading somewhat quickly. I'm hoping that sticking to the plan will pay off, I'm 40 and tired of constantly having deep dark PIH spots. 😭

Ask your derm about oral spironolactone. It helps with HORMONAL acne.

Tretinoin in Thailand is very cheap compared to the US, without insurance. I just got my Tretinoin 0.05% 10g. last week and it cost me less than 5 bucks. Also, no prescription needed.

I wanted to love Tret so bad but Tret didn’t love me.
I gave it 8 months looking and feeling a fool and as sooooon as I switched back to Differin I saw immediate improvement like literally overnight, I’m never straying again 😂

When I first started tret I wasn't seeing any results within couple of weeky so my "pea size amount" grew to more like bean on steroids size amount. Of course it damaged my skin barrier, made me flake and almost like I've aged a decade. So couple of months of skin rehab later here we go again, this time slowly and patiently (!) 😂

So you forced a possible allergy on yourself because your skin was tolerating it well? 🤦‍♀️

I don’t think it will actually age you, it might just irritate the skin to the point where it does more harm then good in the short term, and you’ll be wasting a ton of it

Differn 0.1% adapalene was great for my wrinkles and kept my skin healthy, but wasn't enough for my acne. So I switch to Tretinoin 0.01% and again not strong enough. Then to Vitamin A, 0.05%. I really don't like the formula, how dying it is and my pores look bigger than ever. I think I'm going to switch back to adapalene 0.3%.

My skin didn't tolerate Adapalene 0.1 it was irritating drying i even had swollen eyelids after on application with the sandwich method.
In the other hand Tret was gentil but no results at all after four months oh a daily application.

What about pure retinol? Can we get the same result as tretinoin if we use it long term?
