Same thing happened to me this year in georgia except i hadnt killed a deer yet. Came out after an afternoon hunt and dnr was at my car. I opened the app on my phone clicked on my license and handed it to them. They gave it back to me and i looked down and saw my sportsman license wasnt on there and i was kinda confused but then i looked at my history and it had expired like a week prior. Was extremely fortunate they gave me a warning because of my license history and it being an honest mistake. Wish all game wardens were as understanding as those 2 gentlemen.

Yep I would say anytime you get checked by a game warden in the future they're already going to church you as if you're a criminal hunter. They got these computer systems with their algorithms that flag you for tagging without a license they're going to flag you as a poacher just the way they do business.
Ain’t gonna lie, I was a little upset that they took it. I’m glad they brought it back. I could understand if you hadn’t checked it in, but you weren’t actually hiding it. Glad you got to keep it.

Strange to me. Our license in mass expires at the end of the year/ hunting season. Seems like if it expires in the middle of the season they are sitting people up to make money on tickets. I could be wrong but it's just my opinion.
Jonah, help me understand something as I'm confused. I thought at the beginning you mentioned you shot this deer in Alabama. Maybe you were hunting Alabama when you got the initial DNR contact? I noticed that the corvette tag is GA so I'm assuming you live in and are a GA resident. Also the channel name too leads me to this as well. But, when you mentioned getting a lifetime license I was thinking that a non-resident cannot get a Alabama life time license. Then when the GA DNR rolls up I conclude that this must have been a GA deer harvest and that indeed you are a GA resident that now has his lifetime license. I hunt GA too, but I am an AL resident. I own property in GA and still cannot get a lifetime license because I don't live there. I have to pay just over $400 annually for a license just to hunt in GA and I can literally walk out of my house, look across the river and see GA. I worked my entire career in GA, paid taxes to GA and own property in GA but, none of that matters concerning a hunting license. When I moved to AL from GA the GA lifetime license was not available yet. I did not change my residency from GA to AL for two years waiting on the GA lifetime license to become available, but when I had to give up my GA residency I needed to declare my AL residency and thus have been paying high dollar non-resident fees ever since. It was the next year that GA offered the lifetime license too. When AL offered lifetime licenses I bought one quickly in case I ever move back to GA, but that is unlikely. I'm so glad that you got the deer back. I have a five point that is very similar and yes he was an old buck. You're like me in going by the book when it comes to hunting so I agree, go talk to the judge to see if you can have the charge removed. Thanks for the video. Man I had the same thing happen to me except it was with a Turkey. My auto renew didn’t renew. It was because someone had wrote a check for over $1200 in Michigan and I live in Ga and had not been anywhere near Mich at the time. So my account was frozen when the time to auto renew was suppose to happen and of course I didn’t think anything about it and went Turkey hunting. I thought I had a license and I killed a turkey and checked it in…….Went through the same kind of ordeal.
Same thing happened to Ben Milliken with his fishing license in Texas. Auto renew is just another way they can capitalize on peoples honest mistakes .You shouldn't have gotten in trouble for it in my opinion!! Like you said if you had been trying to break the law you could have gotten away very easily! They have the ability to use discretion and in this case they should have given you a break.PS in NEED that hat and Shirt you have on. Where did you get the shirt?
