100% DIY ARCHERY TARGET
First and foremost I want to preference this video by saying I am in no way shape or form a very good teacher or great at trying to explain the process of things. That being said I may have repeated and stated the same thing twice a time or two or I may not have explained a step as clear as I could have either. If there is any questions on a step or any questions in general don’t hesitate to leave a comment and I will reply as soon as possible better explaining any confusion. Below you will find a list of all the materials you will need for this project, optional items and the tools needed to complete the build.
MATERIAL LIST YOU WILL NEED TO BUILD THE TARGET:
- 1) 16’ 2x12 PRESSURE TREATED BOARD (Cut down to 4 pieces; 2 at 48" and 2 at 45") You can have your local store cut these to size for you to save time.

- 4) 8’ 1x2 Square Edge Common Softwood Boards (You will need to cut each board down to 4’ in length and 45 both corners)
PRICE: $8 per 8’ Board = $32 for 4 Boards
- 8) 3” L Brackets
PRICE: $7 for a 5 pack = $14 for 10 Total Brackets
- Box of 1 1/4” Screws (I used drywall screws, yes they hold just fine)
PRICE: $7.50 for a 1LB Box 238 Screws
- Box of 2 1/2 Screws (Also Drywall Screws)
PRICE: $7.50 for a 1LB Box 88 Screws

- Spray Paint in any color for adding places to aim

- Shrink Warp/Plastic for filling target
PRICE: FREE FROM LOCAL FEED STORE/WAREHOUSE ETC..
(Call around to places in your area and ask if they have any they are throwing away that you could come get for free, also post on Facebook or social media asking if anyone has any, works for a place that may have it or if anyone can point you in the right direction. It is more common and easy to find than you would expect, it may just take a little searching to find it.)

OPTIONAL ITEMS
- Paint to paint exterior of target: ANY PAINT WILL WORK. I used PPG Interior satin black paint.

- Black Plastic OR Garden Fabric to use behind the target face to help being able to see through the target face. Not necessary but makes the over all look of the target better.
PRICE: Free if you can source it locally from a feed store or warehouse.
TOOLS NEEDED
- DRILL
- SAW || A CHOP SAW IS SUPER NICE AND EASY BUT A HAND SAW WILL WORK IF THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH.
- SPEED SQAURE TO SAUARE UP THE MAIN FRAME AND MARK 45 DEGREE ANGLES ON FACE TRIM. NOT NECESSARY BUT HELPFUL
- STAPLE GUN AND STAPLES
- KNIFE TO CLEAN UP PLASTIC/TARGET FACE OR ANY SHRINK WRAP
- TAPE MEASURE
- MARKER FOR MEASUREMENTS AND MARKING WHERE TO PLACE TARGET AIMING POINTS
- STENCILS FOR AIMING POINTS (Any scrap cardboard will work. Cut templates to any size and shapes you would like to have as spots on the target to aim.)
- SOMETHING TO USE TO PRESS SHRINK WRAP DOWN AS YOU FILL THE TARGET

- YOU CAN USE THIS SAME METHOD TO MAKE 3’X3’ TARGET (Third Hand Archery also sells target faces in this size as well)
- YOU CAN USE DIFFERENT COLORED SPRAY PAINT FOR YOUR AIMING POINTS
- YOU CAN GET WHEELS TO ADD TO THE BOTTOM AND A HANDLE ON THE SIDE FOR MAKING IT EASIER TO MOVE THE TARGET AROUND
- YOU MAY WANT TO BUY A DECENT TARP TO KEEP TARGET COVERED WHEN NOT IN USE
- TARGET WEIGHS ROUGHLY 120-150 POUNDS DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH STUFFING YOU CAN FIT INTO THE TARGET
- THIS STOPS MY ARROWS JUST FINE THAT ARE 4MM IN DIAMETER AND MY TOTAL ARROW WEIGHT IS ROUGHLY 480 GRAINS - MY BOW IS SHOOTING ROUGHLY 275 FPS AT A 28.5 INCH DRAW
