"Create anxiety"? No, let's wait until stage 3B and then create anxiety. What the hell?!

If my CKD had been brought to my attention before I reached stage 3 I could have taken steps to halt its progression! I am now desperately playing catchup trying to reverse it.

Beyond not letting patients know, they Don't Give Valuable Information About How To Prevent Decline! I had to do all my research about diet, seek out a renal dietitian and Tell My Dr. I Wanted Closer Blood Testing! I have one kidney, due to cancer, 2014 and have avoided dialysis by diet...it's been as low as 8% gfr/5.85 creatine May 2023 and high of 43 when I first got my kidney removed. Currently I know for sure my weight, food intake, fluid intake are bringing me back. Currently I'm at 24%gfr 2.35 creatine. I'm 70 years old female

I am really ticked at my doctor, He never told me what to eat or what to drink, just drink water. I told him I am and that was that. Now I have stage 3b kidney failure. I have gotten more info from doctors on here than from him.

My primary care resident told me not to worry about an eGFR of 60 since I’m 62 years old…. My A1c is 5.7and creatinine was slightly high. One time my eGFR was 54…. My 3 deceased brothers and both parents had kidney disease. My mother died from ESRD and septic multi organ failure. So, hell yeah, I’m concerned and I want to be followed more closely!

Didn’t hear about CKD until second Dr. sent me for kidney test already stage 3 had to catch up on Kidney Disease real fast. Some Dr’s. Need to up their game when it comes to kidney disease. Rheumatologist should monitor this so much closer than they do.

Thanks Doc… thanks for your brief but very informative and impactful videos re CKD. I intend to send this video to my birthday club, a group of elderly ladies, because I think that they depend on getting good and timely information from their doctors. I know I used to think this until I was diagnosed at stage 3a CKD. I believe like (maybe) you do, that people need to know the direction their kidney function is heading asap, long before stage 3a for sure. I feel sorry that the doctors I’ve seen since my late 40s/early 50s were not able to give me a brief explanation of CKD. Nevertheless, thank goodness for google and my ability to do research. I’ve found your channel and you’ve given me a plausible explanation. My GFR is still between 44 and 46 and I’m struggling to raise the number to 50. Any suggestions for protein substitute? I’m trying to maintain my current weight. Thanks

Eat plant based protein and cut out carbs to 20 to 30g a day and no sugar. I did that and in 2 months my GFR went from 43 to 58 but it’s a lifestyle change

I have one book out, and others on the way (10 Things Your Doctor Won't Tell You About CKD) that addresses just this issue. In her memoir, “The Hiding Place,” Holocaust survivor Corrie ten Boom tells the story of a conversation she and her father had when she was a young girl. Corrie visited my high school giving a talk about her experiences, and sharing her wisdom. She told us a story about she and her father on a train ride when she was a young girl. She had asked him a question about sex.
Rather than answering her directly, Corrie’s father sat quietly, contemplating his next move. He then reached over his head and hoisted down a heavy suitcase.
“Will you carry it off the train, Corrie?” her father finally asked.
After a brief struggle to lift the suitcase, Corrie confessed her inability to heft it off the ground: “It’s too heavy.”
“Yes,” he said. “And it would be a pretty poor father who would ask his little girl to carry such a load. It’s the same way, Corrie, with knowledge. Some knowledge is too heavy for children. When you are older and stronger you can bear it. For now you must trust me to carry it for you.”
Depending on the PATIENT'S ability to handle information and desire to change, you can give them more information. By NOT telling us about Stage One, and explaining the numbers doctors HURT us. I have AKI, and only ONE doctor (Conrad Deel, MD, nephrologist) has explained everything in detail. He puts other doctors to shame. Doctors SHOULD TELL US the instant our blood work shows a problem. Right now there is new research about using ACE Inhibitors to slow/stop declining kidney function.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 CKD and the doctor didn't even tell me. I had to find out through my patient portal. The nurses do a terrible job of explaining what the doctor has said about my visits and blood work when they call to give me results from my labs. All the nurse said was the doctor said you have damage to your kidneys, drink more water. They didn't say "You have stage 2 CKD. 😩😫 I don't know if the water is gonna help treat the issue because it's never clear on what I'm supposed to be doing. It angers me to even think of what else I may not know that they are not telling me. Please forgive me if this sounds like my frustration is aimed at you. It's not. Do you have any advice as to how I go about getting answers so that I can get a clear understanding on what needs to be done. I am getting fed up and I am also thinking of finding another Doctor.

The arrogance and patronizing from doctors is beyond belief. Let's keep the idiots in the dark about their health... I found out through a work related health check that I have stage 2 ckd. Checking back with my gp turns out I have had this condition since at least 2018. I'm so pissed. Doctors are literally useless, only good for prescription of drugs. Na, don't talk to the patient about diet, lifestyle and habits that could ruin his life. Patients are too dumb to understand anyways. Let's not bother the patient with his own health, he doesn't wanna know anyway... I don't have the words to express how mad I am...

I only found out by looking at my boyfriend’s paperwork they left him with when being discharged from a hospital stay for heart failure. I was looking over it before we left so I could ask any questions I had before we left. I asked the nurse what’s this CKD kidney stage 3b? she repeated what I said and then said as she took her cellphone from her pocket “oh lets ask the (something like the almighty) google says. I was shocked that she didn’t know it maybe she was being a b- and was making a point I could had googled it. Crazy that no one told him or me about it and if it wasn’t for me asking them we wouldn’t had known. I’m so lost I see the medication they put him on are actually things that can make is kidneys worse. It’s like the egg or the chicken which caused what? Also wanted to add can’t believe the doctor who did a lithoscropy or whatever didn’t check his kidney function after to make sure they still worked and also didn’t become a diabetic Still don’t know

I remember years before my ESRD diagnosis my doc told me I had protein in my urine, then said nothing else about it. Then I got ill, went for blood tests and I was told I had full blown ESRD! Totally blindsided, I am not sure how that happened but here we are.

Hello Dr., being stage 3 CKD, do you make any modifications to your diet? Like high Phosphorus foods? I maintained stage 3 for 11 years by drastically reducing or eliminating lentils, legumes and multigrain breads. Hadn’t eaten white bread since I was a kid but I made that change (although I rarely ate bread in order to watch my carb intake).😊
