OK. I'm a lifelong oxalate kidney stone😅 -maker and vegetarian for the past 20 years with a past passion for sugary carbs. Latest 24-hr x 2 urine test summary concludes with longstanding bilateral kidney stones despite reasonable fluid intake and a basically good diet. Of fruit and veg After years of living with kidney and gastric disorders I'm absolutely convinced that IBS and certain bowel disorders; leaky gut for example play a significant role in the making of kidney calcifications Although, blood tests may show no abnormality in Creatinine and protein levels in the kidneys, in much older years weight gain, kidney stones and hypertension can become a bigger problem when the diet is not carefully adjusted. In my early seventies my diet is good, but without sugary carbs, gluten and salt. These three cancer-causing foods are absolute poison in the gut, including weight gain and even inflammation of the joints. I might then suggest thst Kidney stone sufferers are well advised to substantially cut sugar, salt and gluten out of the daily diet altogether. Thank you.

Most plant based milks , oat, soya, almond etc usually only contain a tiny amount of the base…..they are mostly water and additives….not many people realise this…
Always best to make your own. Strain in very fine strainer. That’s it! It is concentrated at this point. Add enough to your teas or water as needed. Add honey or sweetener if you desire. Store in glass container in fridge. Good morning..I am so happy to have found this channel!!! I live in Italy and I have not had all this information, you have opened up a whole new world for me!! I have a thousand questions but I will only ask one..I have been on a plant based diet for years now..apart from kidney problems I also suffer from ibs...that's why I became vegan after being a vegetarian..I was watching another video and it was talking about oxalates, which come from vegetables and its very dangerous for who is following a plant based diet and that have kidney problems..I am so worried now!! I'm terrified about what I should eat..my question is... Is it dangerous to follow a plant based diet if we can damage even more our kidneys from the oxalates in vegetables? I'm so confused and scared..it would be lovely to have a video on this subject Thank you so much.
Hello! Thanks for tuning into our channel! We do have another short video on oxalates, but will have more soon! A healthy kidney diet should always be individualized. Some people may need lower oxalates, and some may not. For people who do need to limit oxalates, usually avoiding/limiting the very highest oxalate foods is enough (spinach, rhubarb, raspberries, beets, almonds). There are still TONS of whole, plant based foods that aren't extremely high in oxalates.
I’m with you I think that would be a good suggestion. I don’t even know if they read these questions. I’m new to this channel, but I don’t see answers from previous comments Aloha from Hawaii.
I have a reverse osmosis (RO) system in my home but I bought a cartridge with minerals that is attached to my RO system. Should I remove that cartridge and drink only either RO water? Is distilled water better to drink with kidney disease?
I was enjoying flavored waters until I read the label and saw the phosphorus added. So now if I flavor my water I use cucumber, lemon, lime, mint or even just a small amount of vanilla.
Great advice and really appreciated as my hubby strives to improve his kidney function through better dietary choices. But can you help us by answering this question: can a borderline CKD stage 2/3 patient eat a higher amount of protein in a diet that is 100% plant-based, or must the diet be restricted to the normal 0.6-0.8 g/kg body weight? Thanks very much.
In your discussion of teas, it sounds like you were referring to various forms of green tea, which contain caffeine. How about non-caffeinated herbal teas? I ask because I drink hawthorn and hibiscus tea. A related question is that I have an overactive bladder & I can't drink 1 to 2 liters of water (as Dr. Hashmi suggests) or I will be peeing all day & night.
Hi dr. Hashmi I like to know if we can talk about people with already on dialysis and what to eat what not to eat because I have a situation with the protein very low three-point in my body so what do I have to heat do to improve my kidney problem so please talk about more people already on dialysis thank you so much
Is it ok to drink alkaline waters like SmartWater and LifeWater that also have electrolytes and/or bicarbonate added per their labels@Plant Based Kidney Health??
Can you take a little bit of calcium supplement - like 125 mg or so with your oxalate food, whether it's tea or leafy vegetables, in order to prevent the formation of stones?
Calcium from food sources is preferred over calcium supplements for stone formers. I would check out www.thekidneydietitian.org for a bunch of stone, oxalate, calcium specific information!
Hello👋😎, usually the first meal of my day consist of, Costco organic plain Greek yogurt, some crushed pecan halves, sliced strawberries, and raspberries, I do not have CKD, but I do try to keep my kidneys in good shape ( I'm a 60 yr old male), is this a good combination?, or,,,,
Drinking tea … there are online posts about what’s best to lower creatinine. Please speak to this. Those posts say chamomile or green tea or nettle leaf are best. What do you both say?
Using only veggies as meat substitute is problematic for CKD patients. There's too much potassium & carbs and there's. Veggie protein is not as efficiently used as animal protein and without enough protein the body will consume it's own muscle tissue and there's more to meat than just protein. Meat has a bunch of nutrients you can't get anywhere else. You'll need to take supplements.
Hi Dr and Michelle from Southeastern Indiana, great video... I'm trying to get my Husband to eat more fresh fruit, or any he just doesn't eat it. What is a great way to incorporate more fruit in his diet ?
Basically, Plant based is safer than animal based foods. Someone like me who doesn't have severe kidney disease, I still eat meat, on occasion ,but have a lot of grains and vegetables with that meal.
I have to take 15g of Lokelma daily, I felt like at first it wasn't working because it was absorbing all the potassium out of the water I was mixing it with. Now I mix it using Aquafina because it's the only water that says it doesn't add anything to it's water. I love potatoes, mangos, bananas, pineapples.... Basically all the fruits that are high in potassium. My doctor says I can't eat it and said I should try an apple instead but I find them boring not very flavorful.
I'm preparing food for my wife: CKD, diabetes, vascular dementia, & very picky eater. I've found that apples that are ripe, (I condition them in a brown paper bag for several days), then quarter & slice into thin slices of 1/8 inch or thinner, she will eat peel and all! Fugi, Gala, and Golden Delishious are her favorites. I have a number of colorful 6 oz cups that I serve in that ads a little variety & flair. Good luck.
@@garybates903 thanks for the advice, I'll have to try that with the apples. Currently found Bartlett pears at walmart but I have to let them sit for several days to ripen to the point that they are super juicy before I can eat them.
I work with municipalities on test city water....um no I'm not drinking city water the amount of particulates are way to high. I only drink reverse osmosis water
Good evening doctor hashmi . Could my blood pressure medication lisinopril be the cuse of my kidney problem. It started at the same time started taking it for bp month later my gfr started to deteriorate.
What causes low potassium? I get heart flutters when I am low and it's scary sometimes. What is causing this? High protein? I know flaxseed oil helps reduce C-reactive protein. Is that Creatine? Mine is a little high.
Here in the Philippines all you can find in bread is made with the cheapest ingredients. Been to many bakery’s only find wheat no whole wheat. Nothing really healthy. Hard to stay on a kidney diet
Some great higher potassium fruits and veggies are: avocado, mano, banana, brussels sprouts, artichokes, kiwi. Legumes and quinoa are moderate-high in potassium as well :)
I use the Seychelle brand water filters. They have extreme and ph water filters....pitchers and bottles. We have been using them for at least 10 years.

Very good question. I hope they reply that
@@evelynaustria5227 I removed the cartridge with minerals in it about 4 months ago. Should have done it sooner.
I heard celery juice is very good, but spendy for a few 8 oz cups!
Thank you for educating us is cod liver oil good for CKD patients
I was enjoying flavored waters until I read the label and saw the phosphorus added. So now if I flavor my water I use cucumber, lemon, lime, mint or even just a small amount of vanilla.
Thank you ! I use Quebra Pedra tea bags and capsules to break up Kidney stones .
Thank you so much for all videos, thank you Dr Sean.
What do you think of drinking distilled water?
I A M STAGE CKD CAN I ate rolls with glacern milk and cocoa
Great advice and really appreciated as my hubby strives to improve his kidney function through better dietary choices. But can you help us by answering this question: can a borderline CKD stage 2/3 patient eat a higher amount of protein in a diet that is 100% plant-based, or must the diet be restricted to the normal 0.6-0.8 g/kg body weight? Thanks very much.
The protein recommendation of 0.6-0.8 applies to all ckd patients and plant based protein as well
In your discussion of teas, it sounds like you were referring to various forms of green tea, which contain caffeine. How about non-caffeinated herbal teas? I ask because I drink hawthorn and hibiscus tea. A related question is that I have an overactive bladder & I can't drink 1 to 2 liters of water (as Dr. Hashmi suggests) or I will be peeing all day & night.
Thank you so much for your information, excellent.
Dr H. Could you please tell us where are you located? And do you have a clinic?
🙏🏻
Hi dr. Hashmi I like to know if we can talk about people with already on dialysis and what to eat what not to eat because I have a situation with the protein very low three-point in my body so what do I have to heat do to improve my kidney problem so please talk about more people already on dialysis thank you so much
We have an episode coming up in a couple weeks on dialysis actually! :)
Is it ok to drink alkaline waters like SmartWater and LifeWater that also have electrolytes and/or bicarbonate added per their labels@Plant Based Kidney Health??
It really depends on what your labs are. In general, there is minimal harm but also minimal benefit.
Was told in hospital not to give smart water to my son when he was in hospital nurse informed me not good for his kidneys xx
Oh, I see, was that due to his labs and certain minerals/electrolytes being high?
Can you take a little bit of calcium supplement - like 125 mg or so with your oxalate food, whether it's tea or leafy vegetables, in order to prevent the formation of stones?
Calcium from food sources is preferred over calcium supplements for stone formers. I would check out www.thekidneydietitian.org for a bunch of stone, oxalate, calcium specific information!
Nutritional yeast is superb source of B vitamins, which are depleted during dialysis.
Hello👋😎, usually the first meal of my day consist of, Costco organic plain Greek yogurt, some crushed pecan halves, sliced strawberries, and raspberries, I do not have CKD, but I do try to keep my kidneys in good shape ( I'm a 60 yr old male), is this a good combination?, or,,,,
You mentioned water filters....is that for a jug you keep in the fridge or a water bottle?
Will the k2 lecture here or will it be somewhere else?
We will address K2 in a video on this page, but you can also check out Self Principle channel where Dr. Hashmi has a video on K2!
Great question. We will cover it in our upcoming video. Small changes can lead to huge results over time :)
Wonderful.
Enjoyed this very much. New subscriber here. I look forward to the next video. 🙏
Welcome aboard! So glad to have you
Basically, Plant based is safer than animal based foods. Someone like me who doesn't have severe kidney disease, I still eat meat, on occasion ,but have a lot of grains and vegetables with that meal.
Always great info! Thank you!!
Thank you for tuning in and supporting the channel! :)
is the black teak(not bags but keaves) with milk and ginger extract is good for kidneys? thanks
Pineapples are low in potassium! Other lower-moderate potassium fruits are berries, apples, pears, peaches, kiwi, grapes. Lots of options!
@@garybates903can you put a bit of cinnamon.

I work with municipalities on test city water....um no I'm not drinking city water the amount of particulates are way to high. I only drink reverse osmosis water
Very interesting information
Good evening doctor hashmi . Could my blood pressure medication lisinopril be the cuse of my kidney problem. It started at the same time started taking it for bp month later my gfr started to deteriorate.
Same here with my Bystolic
What causes low potassium? I get heart flutters when I am low and it's scary sometimes. What is causing this? High protein? I know flaxseed oil helps reduce C-reactive protein. Is that Creatine? Mine is a little high.
Here in the Philippines all you can find in bread is made with the cheapest ingredients. Been to many bakery’s only find wheat no whole wheat. Nothing really healthy. Hard to stay on a kidney diet
I agree with Sean! I also love mangoes but for me on a par with papayas. 😋🧡
What plant based milk is better..rice, oat etc?
Some food food for kidney is not for thyroid.. works be nice to know how to tackle this challenge
I talked to 2 dietitian one being a kidney dietitian. Neither one could help me since I was vegan. They both pushed fish and chicken.
Dr Hashmi thanks
My problem is low potassium. I am looking for more to keep my heart from skipping beats.
Some great higher potassium fruits and veggies are: avocado, mano, banana, brussels sprouts, artichokes, kiwi. Legumes and quinoa are moderate-high in potassium as well :)
I eat these foods already. Something is pulling potassium out. I will add legumes and quinoa.
Thank you for sharing this information.
I use the Seychelle brand water filters. They have extreme and ph water filters....pitchers and bottles. We have been using them for at least 10 years.
This is a very impormative thank you so much for giving such a wonderful idea food to eat and drinks for kdney diases problem and how to low creatinin.... hope you have a list of food to eat and list of good drinks to clear kidney diases and low creatinin

Is moringa good for a Stage 3 ckd patient? Kindly advise!. Thank you.
We plan to have a future episode on moringa since there seems to be some interest in it.
My tap water is not so clear so I only cook and drink bottled water and give it to my cat, Home is 6 yrs old.
I eat once every 24 hours only boil vegetables or green leaves salad with only sprinkle of organic olive oil please advise
Do you have a research about kangen water? From japan filtered.
hello! We pan to address research on alkaline water in an upcoming episode!
Recently heard of a person with Polycystic kidney disease who was able to see about a raise of 10 with following basically a plant based keto diet. She is reducing oxalates also, but uses some chicken, seafood, yogurt and cheese. What can you say about keto (plant based primarily) diet and CKD
Michele has some info on her other channel on a plant focused keto diet and recommendations for renal dietitians that specialize in this for people with PKD! You can check out this link th-cam.com/video/LvReTnzZm6I/w-d-xo.html and Michele's website: plantbasedkidneys.com/resources/#dietitian
Hi can you tell how to cure leg cramps relative to kidney disease. An husband ´s friend has stage 4 and I had stage 3a now back to stage 2 thanks to all your advises but we both still have terrible leg cramps. Can you make a video about it? Thanks a lot for all the help you gave me!
Yes, we have added that to the list to address in an upcoming episode! Thanks!
Leg cramps is connected to kidney disease cause I oftentimes have that, being a stage 3B CKD patient.
How did you reverse your ckd stage 3a….. back to stage 2?
We all know that ckd is irreversible!
I’m stage 3B CKD patient. Pls. share wd me, thanks
