What made you stop using windows? For me it was how terribly it made hardware run

To be honest, I have multiple reasons why I made the switch to Linux. I could make an entire video about it. Windows is horrible when it comes to security which makes sense if you think about it. 72% of computers online as of this comment are using Windows. Most of if not almost all viruses come from .exe files. Linux by default doesn't support .exe files, unless if you use WINE which even then, at that point, you may as well just run those in a VM so you barely have to worry about your main machine being hacked. It's how many youtubers got hacked with the cryptocrap scam for example. Because they click that exe file thinking it's a legit program even though it's not. These viruses form from people who take advantage of the many vulnerabilities in Windows. You could blame the TH-camrs for not knowing about it but Microsoft should be doing a much better job when it comes to their security. Linux on the other hand is open-source, so thousands of people if not more, can audit the code and find anything suspicious and patch it in just a few hours in some cases. You brought up a good point as well in that it can make hardware run terribly. The OS gave me a few blue screens as well. Can Linux have crashes, of course. But they are a lot more rare than on Windows 11. Running emulators for example feel so much more stable and perform better in Linux than on Windows. Especially if you use an AMD card, but Nvidia cards with the open-source NVK drivers are actually getting to the point where they are playable. This last point may sound tinfoil-hattish, but then there is the fact that Microsoft spies on your system and collects your data for advertisements. This is a huge invasion of privacy. They also reinstall certain Microsoft programs that you uninstalled, *cough**cough*Edge*Cough*. With Linux, you don't have to worry about any of this crap. No spying, no company telling you what to use, it's your OS and you can make it how you want it! I think that's the most important thing.

Hey, dumb normie! Virtual machines aren't for fringe uses you know. You are using one without even realizing it by interacting on a website that is likely hosted on a VM for security.
I back up all my files on a drive on a NAS which hosts a few services in VM instances
