I was hoping that happened but with XP. XP was just... bliss, y'know? Windows 7 is definitely the greatest I'd say, but XP was just special. Also what I dearly miss about both old OSs is that their Search functions so much better than modern Windows... I am on Win11 right now, but I have purchased StartAllBack, installed Shell by Nilesoft and it's a bit disjointed but a bit more pleasant experience since I can customise things without them being _too_ disjointed like reverting the context menus to Win10 which just doesn't fit well with Win11's aesthetics. Also, actually my point here was that I set the start menu to like Windows 10 and stuff and the search is miles better. I just hate that they introduced internet to mostly everything, I hate the accounts, I hate the ads, the bloatware, like half of the problems of modern Windows is just these. I do quick edits outside of plain trimming (which can be done in Photos, which doesnt accept opus codec in videos which explains them being silent) in fricking Windows Movie Maker. Clipchamp used to not bother me so much but they then decided to do the stupid accounts thing like its another platform, and they also dont let you export with custom resolutions and settings. I miss XP so much man but everytime I get that hit, I realise a lot of stuff dont work with XP anymore, like I downloaded an archive version of Encarta Kids so I could show it off to my siblings and maybe give them member berries if they even were conscious beings when i was able to use it and find it on school computers. i think the easier question would be, what can you not do... i think it boils down to a handful of online games that mandate specific anti-cheat methods (core isolation, tpm, secure boot etc.) or those that exclusively want a fully fledged directx 12 implementation. and then you have some huge application suites like from adobe who just artificially put a stop to launching their software in windows 7, simply because they do not "want to support" it anymore. yet, adobe creative cloud versions 2020/2021 still work on windows 7. and these have a very very rich feature set already. so if you want to avoid using win10 or even win11 then there is not much you have to leave behind.

From what I've tested so far. VMs and web-browsers are the two things that don't seem to run right out the box (haven't tested much though). Although, at least for VMs you can use VxKex (aka: a kernel extender) to bypass that. Not sure why web browsers don't work though. It's funny to see how there's barely anything different between Win7 all the way to Win11. I've had more problems finding compatible apps for XP than 7. Win7 just works.

The skeymorphic UI of Vista and 7 still has a special space in my heart. I'd kill for such a UI in modern OSs. I just deeply dislike the modern simplistic UIs. Why not even have the choice of the 3d glass transparent effects?
Theres a fairly simple way to make both the taskbar and start menu look really close to 7's, look up "How to make windows 11 look like windows 7", it should work on 10
Literally everything I wanted to use was still working on WIndows 7 up until last year. Didn't have to do any weird workarounds. I really only switched to Windows 11 because steam stopped working. If you played super modern games, Windows 7 probably stopped working way earlier, but I mostly play games that are 5 to 10 years old so for me everything worked flawlessly. If Windows 7 was still supported by steam I would have no issues using it today. (And no, viruses were never an issue for me, if you are smart on the internet you have nothing to worry about even when using an old unsupported version. It's mostly just fear mongering that makes people think old unsupported versions will somehow self destruct as soon as you go to one sketchy website) I see Windows 7 like I do a classic car. If it still works for all your use cases, then it's perfectly fine and anyone trying to tell you that you are wrong for using it because "it's not modern" can screw off. Even after being on Windows 11, it literally doesn't do anything I couldn't already do in 7. The times of OS upgrades being actually meaningful are behind us, unless you use niche modern features. If a classic OS works fine for all your use cases and you protect yourself from any viruses, you have nothing to worry about and you aren't "wrong" for using it. Different tools for different people. A modern OS isn't objectively better than Windows 7. If anything, all the stupid crap they cram in now a days probably means you are better off using an older OS if you can manage.
I have an old dino gaming laptop from maybe 2012? and it's still responsive and in pretty decent condition. I only use it to watch youtube and chat on steam and it all works just fine
i really miss Windows 7, still can't believe it has some people still using to this day. i would still thank Vista for it's advancements and especially it's Aero Theme
windows 7 holds a very special place in my heart. it was the first computer i had. i loved the sleek, glass aero theming, and no bloatware too. im thrilled people still care about this os from simpler times
Windows 7 represents an old business model that Microsoft has moved away from, that being the idea of selling a piece of software once and not making any more money off of it. Why keep something like that alive when they can instead continue making money off of every user by pushing ads and collecting and selling their data?
BTW if you want to enable aero theme in a VM you have to turn on 3D acceleration. Generally you can just turn it on in settings after installing VMware Tools. Just a quick heads up.
I think there aren't too many dramatic differences to the NT kernel post Windows Vista. I think the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10/11 are similar to what Windows 2000 was to Windows XP hence that's why many programs still tend to work Windows 7 despite being out of support for 4 years already
Yeah honestly modern versions of Windows just feel like Vista but with UWP and tighter connection to M$. There isn't too many under the hood differences that I can think of to Win32 itself, besides software rendering dwm.exe and improved command-line.
Still rocking Windows 7 on my 13 year old laptop, I only use it to listen to music, use messaging apps, and occasionally play Brawlhalla, a 2D fighting game, it still does it's job pretty well!

Along with Windows XP, Windows 7 Ultimate was another one that I really enjoyed using. Like XP, it was very stable and it was also the final version of Windows to officially support the Windows Classic Theme with Gradient Title Bars and all. Thank you for these videos. I love watching these and reminiscing about how I used my computer (games I had played, music I was listening to at the time, and software I was using) during the time that these old OSes were new. Anyway... I wanted to say, I am one of the people who still use VLC as an alternative to Windows Media Player. Mainly because it's something I have always used as an alternative and not only that, from my experience it's often more reliable compared to Microsoft's Windows Media Player (or Windows Media Player Legacy as it's now called in Windows 11).
I've only ever run 3 operating systems on my main PC's through the years - Windows 98 from 1999 until 2003, Windows 2000 from 2003 until 2017, and Windows 7 ever since.

EXACTLY _FRKN_ *RIGHT* !!
I LOVE the aero theme but sadly there is no aero in linux ; - ;
@@dcironwolf2714 The only UI that is somewhat close is the KDE, but still it doesn't have the same feeling.
There are ways to make some Linux DEs look like Aero glass, but frankly, you have to be a software engineer to understand and successfully apply them.
It's mostly just fear mongering that makes people think old unsupported versions will somehow self destruct as soon as you go to one sketchy website)
I see Windows 7 like I do a classic car.

Why can’t windows 7 just still live on? Please Microsoft
Windows 7 represents an old business model that Microsoft has moved away from, that being the idea of selling a piece of software once and not making any more money off of it. Why keep something like that alive when they can instead continue making money off of every user by pushing ads and collecting and selling their data?
It would have a very high cost because the underlying codebase is very different to Windows 11’s

Windows 7 does everything. Its my daily even now in 2024. That all in one preactivated iso has been beautiful
BTW if you want to enable aero theme in a VM you have to turn on 3D acceleration. Generally you can just turn it on in settings after installing VMware Tools. Just a quick heads up.
Just because you used the windows 7 bootup sound in the video start, you earned a sub bro.
