Really? Twilight fans are notorious for being crazy and doing fucked up things. It's one of the least surprising franchises to have something like this connected to it.

Teen drama is sometimes derided, but the bulk of it is no laughing matter. Teens are old enough to make choices that carry permanent consequences and ignorant enough to follow through. Thanks for telling this story, Dr. G-- tragic and horrifying but an important reminder of how moldable a child's mind is.

The role of a mother in someone’s life is such a powerful one. It’s is a relationship that can provide so much love and support if based on wisdom. On the other hand, it can bring tremendous sorrow and despair if based on dysfunction.
A bad parenting combined with certain personality tendencies is a recipe for disaster. Very sad case.
Insightful analysis, thank you Dr. Grande.❤️

My parents physically abused me as a very young kid and have been insulting me for helping them out, and neglecting me in every form since the day I was born.
Yet I'm not a psychopath and do not want them to die. Crazy. It's almost as if empathy is innate and psychopaths overexaggerate things to play the victim in a chance to escape consequence.
Dysfunctional parents make 100% sense with an abusive child btw, just as much as a dysfunctional victim is with an abusive partner. Although there is no proof that she's dysfunctional in any way apart from not giving the psychopath 100% of what she wanted and actually setting boundaries, it looks like she was afraid of the child and rightfully so.
I've never tried to hurt my parents before and don't plan to, emotionally or physically. Guess I have too much of a heart and not a huge ego.

I was a single mother who worked very long hours to keep her in the best schools and neighborhoods possible. I was so hyper focused on that and exhausted that I failed to be there for her in some critical areas. While I think some kids are predisposed to violent behavior, most just get caught up. I am grateful the wrong set of stars did not align in our lives. I would like to think Kim and Elizabeth could have someday made amends and had a good relationship. Dr Grande's exposition finally reaches somebody I have met in a former role in the criminal justice system.
I met Stan / Lucas Markham. Unpreposessing guy, could solve a Rubiks cube single-handed in seconds, but not a great one for interaction. Though I never discussed anything mental health or offense related with him, it really strikes home how "normal" people like him can be in everyday interaction.
Since then both he and I moved on, him in his sentence, me in my role, and I haven't seen him in years - unlikely to again.
I usually try and avoid knowing what lads are convicted of, it can't help but colour people's judgment when working with them, but in his case it was very difficult to NOT know. The judge had taken the rare decision to release his identity despite him being a minor, which is unusual but they did it because of the enormity of the crime.

Yeah, like my dad...who beat the shit out of me whenever I did anything that made my younger brother look bad...because, you see, I was the oldest but adopted and my younger brother was therefore his "first born". Well...he had his fun slapping me around and guess what? His 2+ years in the rest home before dying, you know how many times I visited him? Well, it's the exact, same number as the number of tears I have had since his death, up to this point. Zero. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Bereft. The last time he did it was when I was 11 and maybe he was psychic because that WAS the last time and was also the time when I promised myself if he tried that shit on me again, I'd kill him. Literally. And I would have. Literally. So he's lucky he lived to 74 because had he tried the physical shit with me again, he would be gone decades ago! Decades! But no, I never visited his sorry ass. Fuck him. They adopted me because they thought they couldn't have kids...and then they had kids. He regretted adopting me after that, I'm quite sure. POS. And of course my mom didn't defend me, either. Bitch. Cunt. She's in a home about 10 miles away from me. I've been once. I haven't even talked to her in 2022. The shit they pulled with me is a large part of why I didn't have kids, since statistically speaking if you're abused you have a greater probability of being an abuser. Nope, I rescue fur-babies. I don't victimize creatures (including humans) who are defenseless. I still think adults are shitheads, and I'm an adult! And probably a shithead.

Recently I wanted to learn more about BPD and HPD due to the ongoing Depp/Heard trial and my searches brought me to a few of your videos from 2018 and 2019. The videos I watched were really concise, formal, and regulated so thank you for that. They were really to the point and they answered the questions that I had. Subscribed.
Today I watched this video to see some of your newer content and I was a little disappointed with some of the material. I was not expecting to hear about the story of Twilight for over a minute. I'm also unimpressed with the naming convention and I felt like having 'Twilight Movie' being the first words of the title was viewer hungry. I also preferred the closer front angle from earlier videos versus the further away angle with the microphone showing. It felt like someone with a doctorate was sharing his expertise versus just another TH-camr.
I'm guessing that some of these changes are due to TH-cam's awful algorithm, hoping to get more views but it felt like a letdown for me. Nonetheless, you have brilliant content, and wishing you luck. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Edit: After reading the comments, it seems like the Twilight narrative was a success. I guess I'm just a 40-year-old fart.

As with the movie in this instance, it would be interesting to address the degree of curiosity and interest that often seems popular among young women with dark and mysterious male figures, or simply "bad boys," despite society widely accounting this as dangerous and rarely ending well. Does a movie like this one--portraying such a character as actually noble underneath, which could be argued as atypical or even highly unusual--contribute to such misperceptions and misjudgments? Many a parent has been in a quandary over this with a child, watching rational discussion and advice even from peers go nowhere.

Idk if you are familiar with their infamous story, but Ill let you do the deep digging yourself if you should choose to do so. I like how you dont shy away from discussing dark events and this is one of the most fascinatingly dark events in the history of music. In particular, Im curious about what you would have to say about Per "Dead" Ohlin, Oystein "Euronymous" Aarseth and the most infamous of them all, Varg Vikerness.
If you havent heard this story yet, its a trip and I highly recommend it as I could see you making a great psych study video out of it. You wont need to dig too far on the internet to find the whole story. In fact, there is a movie called "Lords of Chaos" about it now and I had this thought about wanting to hear your thoughts on the story after seeing it. Its just a suggestion, but I hope you see this and consider it!

  • @BonJody

When I was in high school there was a big push to teach students about abusive relationships both physical and mental. We were told that if someone loves you they will not say things or do things that could hurt you nor would they allow someone else to say something that they knew would be upsetting for you. Unfortunately for some of us, myself and my sister including, we applied that to our parents ,we began questioning and analyzing everything our family had said or done even the simplest of things that may have been said or done ,or any disappointments, even constructive criticism we believed meant our parents didn't love us, because if they did they wouldn't have said anything to upset us. They knew we would be upset if we got in trouble for something and they yelled at us but they did it anyway. So they must not care. And if they didn't care then who did and what was wrong with us, if even our parents didn't love us? I really believed this, and it really had a negative impact on my self esteem and even more so my sister, who turned to drugs to self medicate and years later was diagnosed as bi polar. She died last year because the drugs won. I married the first guy who was nice to me, only to discover that he wasn't so nice once I was officially "his" . My point is that sometimes even well meaning lessons can be misinterpreted. If that makes sense.

They to this day often live with her, drive her car, spend her money eat her food and refuse to work. I live on the opposite coast as far as possible.. They say all sibling rivalry is the parent's fault. it's a common family dynamic. It is extremely painful to this day ( im in my 50s.) It was refreshing to hear Dr weigh in on this somewhat common scapegoat/golden child dynamic with the "binding" comment. This happened all throughout my childhood and can drive you to the edge amd require a lifetime of therapy. If the mother was that cruel to her, she absolutely did NOT deserve to die, but I wonder if this is why the sentence was less than a true psychopath's sentence would be.

I think the worst most similar case I had heard before was a 13 year old girl who threw her mother's cat out of the apartment building's window as an act of general revenge-jealousy. She said her mother liked the cat more than her.

Had I been her mother, I'd have promptly tossed daughter out the house forever. People like this are dangerous and not to ever be trusted.

    Thank you Dr. Grande.
    For quality work.
Did you hear about Mike Tyson's on flight punches? Somebody seems intentionally triggered him to get the punches.
Are people in the states that desperate for money? I mean they both seemed to be sitting on first class section of flight.

I searched to see if you have covered Cheryl Weimar case. I didn't find one. I've become interested in this case because the two guards that caused her to be a quadriplegic have had no charges brought against them that I know of. She did win a 4 million case for her care but why haven't the guards been charged and lost their jobs. Thanks for covering this case if you do. I'm very interested in this case.

Your talent for movie reviews demands a second channel. Dr. Grande at the Movies, where your sarcasm is only your own and is not intended as a recommendation.
