They had a gymnast try to get into a chute door like that one - she couldn't do it. Strong springs kept the door slamming on her an there was no leverage. Would need a chair or something to stand on, at minimum. But it was pretty EASY for someone to put a limp (drugged or dead) girl into the chute.

I usually agree with your conclusions and thoughts about the cases you cover Dr., but in this instance I have to respectfully disagree. The thing that I can't get past is the absence of fingerprints around the garbage chute. It was clearly wiped down and if she had climbed in it herself, her fingerprints would have been all over it. And I don't think it's a coincidence that two women, both with mental health issues and alcohol and substance abuse issues, died AND dated Antony. He is the common denominator and it makes me side eye this case a bit although I cannot say with certainty he is responsible, obviously. At the very least he attracted women that he could easily control because of their issues. Its a sad case with no clear answers and my heart goes out to her family.

Easy to see conspiracies every where you look. Consider this, no one knew who she was when she was first discovered, after it became known that she was Antony's gf, how would a common police officer have any idea who his parents were? I mean, would you know any random judge's adult children? More likely that Antony is very attracted to highly unstable, drug abusing women.

@@loriclark553 Very well said, I had this same thought. And even if the various cops who responded, by some unlikely chance, did somehow know the boyfriend was a judge's son, there's no reason to assume those same cops are instantly now going to snap to attention: "Well. That changes everything. Plans have changed, boys, you know the drill- cover up *everything* and protect the judge's kin...."
All due respect, I'm really surprised to see so many comments here expressing *certainty* about the boyfriend's alleged guilt. Speculating or suspecting that he might be guilty is one thing, but I'm seeing a lot of comments alleging his guilt as if people "know".
I just don't see any evidence to warrant such alleged "certainty". It's definitely *weird* that he had 2 girlfriends kill themselves, and he seems like an unequivocal scumbag (I agree, he's hard-wired to exploit vulnerable women) but weird doesn't equal evidence.

Phoebe’s treatment was suboptimal to say the least- the fact that she contacted the clinician 2 days before her death and the clinician’s inaction after hearing that her client would “take some pills to sleep the pain away” are just some of the red flags. Maybe if the counselor had a competent supervisor this tragedy could have been avoided.

    • @OregonSingles
      @OregonSingles 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree, for some it's very hard and serious to mention our pain. We are able to bring it up in a casual way "take pills to sleep it away" that an experienced clinician would've "red flagged" and questioned deeper if not followed up on. Combined with the type of pills she'd taken mixed with that amount of alcohol and the mental health issues that feel like a plague while in an unhealthy relationship she could've been quite unaware of the finality of her actions to the consequences of the garbage chute, *the BF likely made her feel like garbage*. I've been there, luckily not in a garage chute nor mixing alcohol with Ambien but did have to stop taking that medication because of strange symptoms and actions I couldn't recall. I'm not saying the BF is entirely innocent but he likely didn't have to have a direct hand in this at all.

It’s incredibly insulting to the detectives who worked this case to suggest they were somehow influenced by some retired judge they most likely don’t give two shits about and has no authority over them.
Homicide detectives are the least likely out of all law enforcement officers to be influenced by politics; they see the worst of the worst, they absolutely despise killers and like I said, most don’t give a shit who your dad is... from what I’ve seen they’re actually more motivated to put criminals with some kind of authority or privilege in prison because they hate people who abuse their power to victimize innocent people... so yea if anything they’re more likely to try and lock up the son of a judge, especially if said judge is trying to put pressure on them to not do their job...
Prosecutors can be influenced though, since they’re obviously are well connected with other attorneys/judges. Although if the police presents enough evidence; a corrupt attorney will have no choice to bring it to trial, regardless of how much pressure their judge friend puts on them.

Good for thought. Plus after a while the police did ask for the logging in and out of the building and the logs showed Antony actually came home for a short time in the afternoon. I watched Stephanie Harlow’s coverage of this case and she brings up a few things that convinced me she was murdered. like the reenactment done showing it’s impossible for a single person so get in the trash shoot on their own. Her boyfriend had kicked her out of the apartment multiple times even though she paid rent.
He was messing with her phone the morning of the day she died and had conflicting stories about his communication with her that day. He and his family were really weird towards her family after her death, he wouldn’t see her family, he would happen to have mood swings and become immediately too distraught to talk to them when they came to see him but was fine when they weren’t there, according to his friends and others around him. He wouldn’t let them collect her things, and wouldn’t turn her body over to her parents or even let them plan any part of the funeral, he had his mother and her friend plan it. He had custody over her body because he had registered as her defacto next of kin without the knowledge of her family, normally in Australia you have to be living together for two years to have this type of next of kin relationship recognized, but Phoebe had only been living with him for a year.
She also had a family member who was a cop, who noticed the investigators were making a lot of mistakes and just ignoring evidence. She was also making plans like helping plan her brothers birthday party. She also kept a journal where she wrote about a lot of her feelings and wrote poems. Her journal had no mention of suicide or depression near her death, but it did contain a lot of poetry about how much she resented her boyfriend. She definitely struggled with depression, substance abuse, and was known to be a risk taker. But it seems like she also had an abusive relationship with her boyfriend. I think he was involved in her death.

I just wanted to say Dr Grande that when I did my Bachelor's in Psychology in Australia that the path to becoming a qualified psychologist was then to complete a Master's degree and then two years of supervised clinical training. I don't know what her job title was but the clinician was definitely was not qualified as a psychologist and could not prescribe medication even if she qualified, only a qualified medical doctor can do that in Australia. It's possible that if her position was as a counsellor which requires at least two years diploma and 100 hours placement but the support she provided would be in more informal situations such as a youth worker situated in a youth centre rather than structured face to face counselling. To be honest I agree that the clinician was both under-qualified and under-educated and I'm unsure how she came to be employed in that role.

The videos by Stephanie Harlowe are much better! Grande left out a lot of extremely incriminating details in order to draw the conclusion he did, very disappointing.

How about the scenario where Phoebe was blacked out on drugs and alcohol after breaking the glass and her boyfriend was so mad he carried her to the chute while saying something snarky like, "This is how I take out the trash!"

Phoebe seems to mirror my life before I became a parent and my life changed completely for the better. I was reckless, mentally ill and self medicating. I used to take zolpidem and be blacked out, also mixing with alcohol. It’s VERY easy to black out on because you’re meant to go straight to bed. You will be functioning completely but are not there at all and will remember nothing. It’s very dangerous if not properly used. So it’s not hard to believe it was actually an accident, but regardless the police should’ve properly investigated and covered all basis.

From experience when I suffered from extreme depression I stopped calling the help line as they get annoyed when you ring to ofter.
I was suicidal at that time.

Dr. Grande, it appears you havent covered the story of poor Colleen Stan, also known as the girl in the box. I'm curious to hear your assessment of the kind of psychological damage and indoctrination the poor girl suffered thru, and your insights into the mind of the absolute monster that did that to her.

Dr. Grande... zolpidem is more commonly known as Ambien, which is a sleeping medication. We have seen people "sleep eating" and even "sleep driving" . Scary stuff!

I think he referred to it as Stilnox because Phoebe was from Australia and that's the Australian brand name for zolpidem. Either way yes scary stuff

There is a documentary about Phoebe on how she was able or unable to go thru the chute with or without help.
She was not the only one that died tragically but another girl too. Both dated Antony who is a son of a retired Supreme Court Judge. RIP Phoebe.

when I got my fiance from the hospital after his suicide attempt, the doctors and nurses wouldn't tell me anything at all since we weren't married. I begged them to tell me something, if he was in danger. They wouldn't speak a word. Two weeks later, he was dead. When I took my son to the psychiatrist after a suicide attempt, and asked if he could get anti-depressants, the doc told me it wasn't depression, that it was all behavioral. So, I cracked down on the discipline on my son. couple months later, he was dead. Mental health doctors are a joke.

You’re dismissing any probable cause that someone may have pulled the fire alarms on purpose to gain access to the stairs?? Who is able is pull themselves into a garbage shoot without leaving behind fingerprints? She and Ant had a toxic and volatile relationship and his previous gf died under similar circumstances… But sure, he’s totally innocent because his key card is the ultimate alibi 🤡

I'm pretty convinced that this whole video is that dry sarcastic humor we love, he's just so good at it, its hard to tell the difference. To not believe Anthony had something to do with both those girls given the evidence, its like this video is one giant piss take. Seriously i'm convinced.

Thanks so much for this. I commend you as a mental healthcare professor/practitioner to critique the industry. It’s not easy to see exactly what’s wrong with a situation like Phoebe’s “therapist”if one was a co-worker in that environment so it takes someone with your education and perspective to speak out about what you see as part of the problem.
I’m shocked that one can qualify as a clinician with only a BS. No way anyone could be prepared to do anything but basic counseling with that limited education in my opinion. I sure couldn’t. So there’s a big problem from the start. Although even at that point in my education and experience, I knew to take EVERY suicide ideation seriously. At the very least her therapist should have gone forward with crisis intervention protocol.
