    Just watched The Way Of The Water in 4k HDR bluray for the first time today with my S95B and I've gotta mention it looked and sounded just incredible. Also the way the Samsung dims with static content like that, it's called ASBL, the earlier Samsung oleds are just as aggressive with it, but fortunately you can easily disable it through the service menu so it doesn't dim at all.

      It would be better to compare them side by side or use instrument to compare brightness. The S90D actually has higher color luminosity.

    Im glad you touched on dynamic tone mapping versus HGIG in gaming. Ive tried using hgig for a few weeks with both my old LG c9 and my S95b qdoled. You just take too much of a hit because it like dims your overall screen brightness alot, plus mutes the colors. I know most games dont even actually support hgig, and the ones that do dont even bother to advertise it 😂 so im sticking with dynamic now for sure

    • @paulcox2447
      @paulcox2447 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      A lot of times hgig looks like SDR with slightly brighter highlights. Without SDR and HDR side by side I couldn't really tell much difference.
      At least HDR DTM pushes the TV hard enough you can tell it's hdr.
      I've only enjoyed a few games in hgig.

    • @pboissie
      @pboissie หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paulcox2447 yea you are right, sometimes you can think you see benefits of hgig with some games. I find it works best for games that have night time scenes, because when you toggle DTM back on you notice nighttime looks more vibrant but inaccurate and contrast seems to take a slight hit. Also in daytime sunny scenes, the clouds get overblown, and you start to see a hazy effect but atleast black shadow detail doesn’t seem crushed like in hgig, and image n colors just pop with that true HDR look u mentioned. Its just hard to find a true balance. Im thinking maybe if i got a G4 now, that high nit brightness will compensate for this, and in turn work better with hgig.

    • @paulcox2447
      @paulcox2447 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pboissie Yup, you nailed it. The game I really enjoyed with HGIG was Metro Exodus. With DTM the night time brightness was raised so much it didn't look like night time. I own a LG c1 for reference.
      HGIG worked really well and the highlights did actually pop. The game has lots of dark scenes and shadows, but also a lot of small light sources. If things are too bright it gets rid of the apocalyptic vibe. Dark dingy environments being lit by candle light is what you want. Rooms that are clearly dark and only partially illuminated.
      There is scene where you're in a bunker being interrogated and there are fluorescent lights overhead. Man O' man.
      First time I was like "WOW" when playing a game in HDR. The lights hit like they were real lights.
      I was told Destiny 2 was a top tier HGIG experience, tried it and was immediately like "nah this ain't it".
      I want a game like Destiny to POP and HGIG simply wouldn't do it. It was sdr with brighter highlights, wasn't wowing me at all
      You are right tho. Once TV's have more brightness capabilities and game makers choose to properly grade their games for HDR, DTM would be less useful.
      That said, I paid for a high end TV, I want my content to use the full capabilities of the TV and that's what DTM does.
      Purists can do what they want, but I'm going to do what I want and I will NOT feel guilty about it.
      As far as I'm concerned my stuff looks more like what theirs is going to look like in 10 years when the TVs and the grading start to catch up lol.
      Standard$ are always based around "average" tv's. My TV isn't average 😂

    • @verttisyrjala2897
      @verttisyrjala2897 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you know what HGIG is? HGIG's idea is to accurately follow the games HDR's intended luminance levels without any artificial tonemapping. So since you wanna talk about "support"?... All games that support HDR work properly with HGIG. And you always want to use HGIG when gaming in HDR to get a picture like the game devs intended.

    • @pboissie
      @pboissie หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@verttisyrjala2897 sounds like you like to just make up stuff, a simple google search will show you what specifc games actually follow the HGIG standard. You can use it with non supported games obviously but you will get mixed results. Next time do some research.

      Fomo clearly and directly said he can not recommend the 65-inch g4 because of an unusually bad dirty screen effect this year. The rtings c4 green tint mess at starting at 28 degrees is also just within acceptable range , lg said. It really is not at all go look what happens if you step slightly off angle.. they are not going to say that they ship out unacceptable broken viewing angle tvs whoops, and one actually got to rtings whoops again.. this is why you do not fully accept hand-picked models given to reviewers period. Listen not look at them. LG got caught with their pants down with dse g4 and green tint c4 this year. There are near perfect dse g4 tvs just not necessarily at all the one you buy. Not a single person can say that the one g4 someone randomly buys will be great or low dse. Hense the warning some reviewers dont want to mislead even a few of their watchers. Seems reasonable.

    • @paulcox2447

      My c1 has a pink tint off axis, but I have to use grey slides and really look for it as well as get so off angle I'd never watch the TV that far off axis.
      Why LG seemed to go backwards in that regard I don't know. The old panels before the EVO didn't have off axis issues. It started with the c1 generation and has gotten worse every year it seems.
      A green tint is particularly atrocious as a green tint to the TV subjectively just looks worse than any other color.
      Blue tint has a "pop" to it. Red tint is warm and colorful, green tint makes things look sickly. When in doubt, cut green when tuning lol.

    the S90D seems like a great TV but most people seem to focus on it being the best for gaming...but a common criticism is how it handles low bit rate/highly compressed material such as on streaming along with the motion handling...I have a dedicated gaming PC (and monitor) so I won't be using the TV for gaming...so my biggest concern is the low bit rate handling and motion...can you comment on how the S90D handles this type of content versus something like the G4...Thanks

      @consumerreview2k  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @TitusTroy2. Hey thank you for the comment and checking out the video. Means allot. The low bit rate content is a little more iffy on the S90D comapred to the G4. Although color is better on the S90d, it's still hard to watch as the upscaling is not as clean looking. Plus when streaming, seems like motion tends to really skip frames and it's noticeable. Overall processing is not as premium as the g4 that's for sure

So I was considering checking out an open box 55" G3 for around $1000, but then Costco had the 65" S90D for $1000, so we went with that. Good deal? I miss the LG software, though. And it's more elaborate settings selections. But it's amazing how much control you have over game mode with the S90D. With the LG, I was using the recommended Filmmaker Mode for gaming.

      @scottsacala. Hey, thank you for the comment and checking out the video. Means a lot. That's a good questipersIf you're strictly talking game mode, then I would stay with the S90D. Yes, Costco does have a good deal cause they add the warranty in the purchase basically for free. But if you're asking about overall quality, I would give it to the G3. I don't mind with OS's as I am just simply used to them, but yes, I also agree with the customizations being much more flexible overall with an LG. But game mode menu on the S90D is equal to me comapred to the S90D. So overall I do like the S90D for gaming the most at the moment.
