I have a 77'' G4 arriving next week. It's through Best Buy's GSP plan that was going to expire in Feb of next year for a 77 C9 I have that I bought second hand (and inherited the plan) for only $800 two years ago. They couldn't "fix" my panel, which has been glitching since I got it, and I ended up getting store credit for the price the original owner paid. When they told me the price, I couldn't believe it. He ended up paying full, 2019 release price a year later in 2020. This more than paid for a new 77'' G4. I was just hoping to get something like $1,500 - $2,000 and then pay the difference, but all I had to do was buy a stand. Also, the E6 had such an incredible remote. Similar to how the Oppo players had fantastic remotes. Now most remotes that come standard with TVs or media players feel like children's toys by how flimsy and generic they feel.
To be fair I love the LG magic remote.. It's so easy to control your TV with it. Yes, it looks a bit cheap and it has no backlit buttons, but the usability really makes up for it in my opinion.
The LG remote is actually the best on the market because of its motion control Try using a samsung and see how many times you have to press (or press and HOLD) the same button to get ANY kind of response from the TV... and how many sub menus you have to press just to get to something as simple as changing inputs (6 just to get to the input menu, then many more to select the input you want)
I wasn't complaining about its functionality, but rather the cheap-looking black plastic which gets covered in fingerprints and the buttons become a mess over time and doesn't have a backlight. A TV at this level of the market should have a metal remote made from quality materials and match the design of the TV - but with the functionality we already have.
Thanks for the early first review, glad it is all positive , the out of the box accuracy is amazing well done LG. what about cinematic movements gimmicky or legit feature?
While I probably won't use it as I don't really see the judder with the near-instant OLED response time and I notice interpolation as soon as it is applied, this feature will be useful for those who have real issues with seeing the judder. We all see motion differently, so anything that can help without adding any Soap Opera Effect is a good thing in my opinion.
Thank you from the Netherlands for the great review! Is the anti reflective coating on the G4 any different from the G3? I read in a preview that the anti reflective coating of the G4 possibly is not as good as on the G3. Not sure which one to pick up: the G3 with a big discount or the G4 with undoubtedly brighter colors in game mode compared to the G3.
Go for the LG G3 like me. I will buy mine next month, the 55" inch. It's now on discounts in the Netherlands. The G4 is an excellent TV but the price is too high at this moment. Glenn, Nederland
Perhaps the Sony by a very slight margin, but LG is definitely good value for money. LG for below 55ins and Sony for 55 ins and above. However they’re both outstanding TVs. Cheers.
Can you please test the De-Judder 10/10 in 30FPS games to see how big is the input lag? I am using De-Judder in gaming on my C3 but I am curious if the new Alpha 11 processor will give you lower input lag vs the Alpha 9. Thank you.
Hi Phil, I couldn't but notice the wonderful TV cabinet. Are you able to share details on it please? Once I have the cabinet I'll then decide if it's a G4 or A95l for me. Thanks.
Nice review..and t-shirt. How does that silver border on the outside edge look in a darker room. Is it still visible? Does it tend to pick up any ambient light or light reflected in the room from the screen? I could live with the cheap remote but concerned that border will be distracting.
loving everything i’ve seeing on the G4! would you recommend the G4 over the C4? looking to get a tv that checks all the boxes on my series X and gives me the best image quality on my apple tv 4K, would you say the C4 is worth the lesser price compared to the G4? have a feeling the G4 is gonna last me until the next big tv tech evolution
If you can afford the G4 then that would be my pick over the C4. C4 is slightly brighter than C3, but it is nowhere near as good as the G4 with the a11 Ai Processor and MLA+ etc.
Great content! I got my G3 a few weeks ago. It’s a wonderful TV. The only thing that bothered me is the game mode with HGIG (the colors look washed out and a little bit too dim). So, I have to switch to DTM based on the game title to have a better experience. It seems that this issue has been fixed on the G4 model. I'm here itching to return my G3 and pay full price for this G4. Will it be worth it? 😅😅😅
Three nitpicks: Power cord is still fixed, still a cheap remote, no "stand-up straight" stand for the 77". Most people fit the sturdy Sanus VSTV2 instead but the base is very large and does not even fit properly on typical Ikea 40cm deep furniture. LG also have an official duck feet style VESA stand that is used on their M3 series. I will likely buy the 55" or 65" instead.
A pixel is a pixel, so what makes for that increase in detail? Better accuracy out of the box? Higher contrast ratio? Or some background processing altering the image in a way that diverts from directors intent?
@@avforums Thanks for this insight, the G3 is double the price of G2 currently. Not sure I can stretch that far. What about the C3? Is that a better option over G2? Thanks again.
No, the C3 is very much the same as the C2 model, with no significant upgrades. The big upgrade was adding MLA and Meta technology to the G3. It may yet fall a little more in price now the G4 is available and dealers will need to shift stock.
I'm stuck between the philips 908 or the LG G4. What would you recommend yourself? I was I formed the philips gets as bright as 2100 nits. I cam get the philips 908 for €2000 or the g4 for €2600.
Great review. I have the 83” G3 which isn’t MLA. I calibrated each mode and it is a superb tv (my 6th LG OLED since 2016) only issue I have is white vertical bars, across the whole screen, just above Black- to about 15-20% above Black. Possibly due to the heat sync’s and EVO software without MLA? Cheers Mate.
Considering this G4 or the new Samsung S95D in 77". A big consideration though is the sound and I would like the new Q990D Samsung atmos soundbar after being very satisfied with the Q90R that I got 4 years ago. I've read this latest soundbar is now far superior to my old Q90R and I've also viewed some poor reviews of the LG flagship soundbar system. The Q symphony on the Samsung TV that can be used with the soundbar for extra immersion and the object tracking feature is swaying me towards the Samsung TV. For myself the sound is as much a key factor as the picture quality although I don't want to go the AVR and seperate wired speaker route for aesthetic reason's. This LG could be a stellar TV and debatably a little better than the S95D but will the TV and Soundbar integration on the all Samsung setup outweigh the possible minor advantages of this LG screen? Looking to make my purchase around September time and I'm still open minded and looking forward to viewing plenty of side by side comparison reviews before I make my decision. I must say I've been very happy with my 5 year old LG OLED but I've read they have improved considerably since my last purchase.
I wouldn’t put too much stalk in Q-symphony tbh. I have the 990C and had an S90C for a few months before selling it. Q-symphony may have made dialogue slightly more audible but the difference was so small, I couldn’t even tell a difference when doing a blind AB test. I now use my Q990C with my LG CX and am very happy with the sound that this system produces on its own.
The S95C with the anapeak mod can do 2000 nits @2-3% btw. SO much for the G4 being brighter. It can also reach 300 nits full field white and 1650 nits 10%. It has better colorvolume, brighter colors without washing out and can also do 144 hz.

It really depends on what you need from a TV and your use case. If it is just film and TV viewing in ideal conditions with high quality sources, the Panasonic is still very much a contender and the new Z95A looks very interesting.
I never would have guessed G4 would be so much brighter than G3 that already doubled the brightness from G2. This is the best time to live in if you are a technology freak.
Awesome review Phil. Been waiting for your review on the G4. Wow looks fantastic, but between Sony 95L and LG G4 which one is the best tv out off the box, I don’t want to be fiddling around in one mode then another to watch films. I sure I’ve said before I mostly watch Sky Tv.
@@avforums cheers Phil for your reply, can wait for it to arrive at the shops, so I can get a good look. Thanks for your advice, great channel, with great content.
The picture may be great but the G4 has its issues. My one commonly crashes when using the default web browser, and sometimes when in the settings menus response will slow down then freeze. I then have to turn the TV off unplug it, then plug it in again. Then it loses the sound output that was last selected. It has LG soundbar connected by hdmi earc, the tv is set to use the soundbar and the tv speakers for sound output. On powerup the output to the tv speakers is lost, and if I do not interven quickly enough the sound output is change to a bluetooth sound system that I listen to music on. This is not acceptable on a TV of this price, or any TV for that matter.
It's one of the biggest frustrations I have with the G series TVs. Now they have fixed the issue with the stand, I hope they fix the remote next, fingers crossed.
Even the print on some of the buttons on my remote are fading off. It's really baffling how LG can still ship such a cheap remote with an expensive TV.
@LexLutha yes with the service remote..the 2024 tvs need service remote.. even with smart things app remote u cud make it work on the 2022 n 2023 models..
I picked up the 77” G2 as my first OLED tv and it’s been phenomenal and has surpassed my expectations. I am going to get either the LG G4 in 83” or the Samsung QN900D in 85” I was surprised how fast I outgrew the 77” size so the G2 will get moved to the bedroom. The only reason I’m upgrading so soon is size and both sets are supposed to have a new processor that is game changing.

I can't wait to see it in stores. When I have seen the Sony A95L I am shocked because it is the best TV I have ever seen. I want to see how amazing the G4 looks because it might be better than the A95L.
I'm so confused because the main TV I'm waiting for is the Panasonic Oled z95a but I could buy the lg g3 now for just under £2000 an then there is obviously the better lg g4🤪, so it's driving me crazy what to do.
My advice would be that if there is no rush, wait to see how these TVs perform, check out the owner's threads at AVForums to see how people are finding them in their homes, and while you wait the pricing will also be better down the line. I hope that helps!
I currently have a MZ2000 and looking to return it due to problems with HDR material (I had 3 LZ2000s before this and they also had the same problem!). I've been looking at the G3. Just bear in mind, if internal sound is important, the Panasonic is way better than the G3 and possibly the G4. If I go the G3 route I'll be needing a soundbar.
Unless the G3 comes in 83inch with MLA tech I'd say you certain have to go with this model then. being that everyone else on this level stops at 77inch
I am living in the Philippines, and apparently the retailers here are cheaping out when it comes to the included stand that you'll get literally everywhere else in the world. It is simply not possible to get it, besides directly from LG. So if you want to get this TV here, you are either forced to place it on a wall, or pay a premium price on top of the TV to get the stand from LG.
It's one of the biggest frustrations I have with the G series TVs. Now they have fixed the issue with the stand, I hope they fix the remote next, fingers crossed.
Where the heck in Germany can I look at the A95L next to the G4 lol I went to Mediamarkt and they didn't have either TV xD I'm kinda leaning toward G4 cuz the price difference seems kinda nuts. A95L cost almost 1000 more (I haev a cheap Hisense so I'm sure both would be awesome. Plus I hear Sony has a good amount of bugs and I'm kinda suck of bugs on Samsung and Hisense panels).
LG figures are on a 2% window in vivid mode. Nobody in their right mind would ever watch a TV in such a mode. In the accurate Filmmaker mode, it measures in at 1500 nits.
the smaller the measurement window and the more the inaccurate PM, the higher the measurement will be. on a 2 or 3 percent window in vivid PM, it may measure close to 3000 nits but on a 10% window in FMM, it will be 1400-1500 nits. some difference will exist from panel to panel because of panel variance and the measurement equipment used.
@@whitecrowuk575 QD-OLED’s have much uniformity. Trust me. QD-OLED as an OLED technology was a step change. Plus the price to performance on a Samsung to LG OLED is hard to justify.
@@rockcitybwoy9042 was with first gen yes not so much with second - you can see plenty of people complaining on avsforum about it. Whereas wiles was bad in the past now for G3 sizes 55/65/77 it’s rare to get bad uniformity especially on 77. And from initial G4 reviews it continues like that.
As covered in my written review, it is serviceable in volume and weight with good separation, but no bottom end. If you want good-quality audio try and get the G4 with a soundbar or use it with an external sound system.
Agree on the remote. Also, Samsung! They haven’t given a premium remote for YEARS! Same old tat. Oh for the days of the metal, backlit remotes of the past.
I think the testing of windows only show the general brightness increase. But it doesn't show the "booster" tech that increases the specular highlights at 3% and less happening in actual content. So I bet those times it is "boosting" these HDR small highlights the nits can be higher than 1500 nits. I don't think it's something that can be tested as easily. Also if someone wants to use vivid, yeah I know. Then the brightness is likely higher from the start as well. Wouldn't surprise me if you just tested vivid the window brightness at 10% would be far higher than 1448 nits. Not accurate FMM to be sure. But just saying it's there.
I’m beginning to think it’s just me since everybody seems to be same all kinds of positive things about the LG. My Dolby Vision is just too dark. I’m using the filmmaker mode and it is just too dull. I am watching bird box on Netflix. so I finally opted to use SDR and now it looks a bit more decent. I don’t understand why everybody’s claiming that the filmmaker mode is good. I know I’m not doing anything wrong because I haven’t made any changes to it., so it’s just like it came out of the box. Kind of disappointed that I am not able to use Dolby Vision without compromising the image.
Very faint and not seen with actual viewing material, even in dark surroundings. See the written review for more in-depth testing. www.avforums.com/reviews/lg-g4-oled65g4-oled-evo-tv-review.21669/
I feel like tv has almost peaked, I can’t see 8k taking off anytime soon and 4k been mainstream for a decade or so, it’s really nit picking for features, until the source format changes again they’re all pretty much the same, also people watch garbage quality content from streaming services and terrestrial so doesn’t matter how good the tv is! 😅
Yes it does. The better the processor, the better the garbage quality content will look due to better upscaling. So it matters a lot how good the tv is

Try using a samsung and see how many times you have to press (or press and HOLD) the same button to get ANY kind of response from the TV... and how many sub menus you have to press just to get to something as simple as changing inputs (6 just to get to the input menu, then many more to select the input you want)
I think he means the build quality. It's cheap plastic, not backlit and the print on the buttons fade off over time
I wasn't complaining about its functionality, but rather the cheap-looking black plastic which gets covered in fingerprints and the buttons become a mess over time and doesn't have a backlight.
Nice, glad a stand comes with it and looks like a decent one and is black, not cheap grey looking thing from last year, which had stability issues.
Still no stand for 83” G4 What a shame 😢
What is better for upscaling the LG G4 or the Sony A95L ?
I was told by both owners who own both they are virtually Identical.
I would say it is close between both
Perhaps the Sony by a very slight margin, but LG is definitely good value for money. LG for below 55ins and Sony for 55 ins and above. However they’re both outstanding TVs.
Cheers.
Excellent review as always Phil. I am waiting for the Panasonic Z95A release and review. Do you know when it is in the shops?
I don't have any official information at the moment
great review
What do you think about upscaling of DVD, Blu-Ray and 4k media discs using the LG-G4
Upscaling performance is excellent, even with low-resolution sources like DVD.
Another great review! Can you confirm if the wall mount WB22EGB is compatible with the G4?
Is it any good, thats all I care about. If its good ill buy as many as i need of them...
Thanks.
Details in the description with a link.
Nice review..and t-shirt. How does that silver border on the outside edge look in a darker room. Is it still visible? Does it tend to pick up any ambient light or light reflected in the room from the screen? I could live with the cheap remote but concerned that border will be distracting.
The silver border is not seen from the viewing position and doesn't reflect any light from the screen.
Cheers 👍
will be upgrading to a G4 from a C9 👍🏼
Can you recommend a much better 3rd party remote for my LG G4?
loving everything i’ve seeing on the G4! would you recommend the G4 over the C4? looking to get a tv that checks all the boxes on my series X and gives me the best image quality on my apple tv 4K, would you say the C4 is worth the lesser price compared to the G4? have a feeling the G4 is gonna last me until the next big tv tech evolution
If you can afford the G4 then that would be my pick over the C4. C4 is slightly brighter than C3, but it is nowhere near as good as the G4 with the a11 Ai Processor and MLA+ etc.
How is the audio?
I'm a big fan keep up the great work.
Thanks Phil. Glad its not a massive upgrade over the G3 which i own.
Keep my lg c2 65 inch some more years, or buy the lg g4 77 inch, on black friday or some other sale?
i have the C1,will I notice any difference coming from it to the G4?
Yes, especially in brightness and colour brightness improvements, along with much better video processing.
Only you can answer that question. Good luck.
I. Just got the 77 lg g4 ,but I need to tweak the settings, can you recommend a good settings review
A pixel is a pixel, so what makes for that increase in detail? Better accuracy out of the box? Higher contrast ratio? Or some background processing altering the image in a way that diverts from directors intent?
filters!
Would like the 77 inch but with a stand.
You are right about the trash control. I have an LG t.v and the control it’s just trashed. I now replaced it for a Samsung because of the control.
is the G2 still a good buy? It is being deeply discounted currently.
You don't get MLA with the G2 and the step up to G3 was pretty significant, if your budget can stretch I would seek out a G3 if you can.
I have the 77” cx would the G4 77” be a notable improvement
I'm stuck between the philips 908 or the LG G4. What would you recommend yourself? I was I formed the philips gets as bright as 2100 nits. I cam get the philips 908 for €2000 or the g4 for €2600.
Great review. I have the 83” G3 which isn’t MLA.
I calibrated each mode and it is a superb tv (my 6th LG OLED since 2016) only issue I have is white vertical bars, across the whole screen, just above Black- to about 15-20% above Black. Possibly due to the heat sync’s and EVO software without MLA?
Cheers Mate.
I haven't seen an 83" G3 so I'm afraid I can't comment on what you are seeing with your particular TV. Sorry.

According to profile name, it seems that u love your S95C, enjoy it, and stop behaving like PUTIN , always looking for reasons to be right, such a destructive destructive character 😂🎉😅🎉,
Yes my one modded goes over 2000. S95d can do 3000 😮 but the matte panel is a bit of a problem

How bright is it vs the g3?
I've been out the loop for some time, I'm in the market for an upgrade, are Panasonic not even in the running these days?
It really depends on what you need from a TV and your use case. If it is just film and TV viewing in ideal conditions with high quality sources, the Panasonic is still very much a contender and the new Z95A looks very interesting.
@@avforumsthank you.
I never would have guessed G4 would be so much brighter than G3 that already doubled the brightness from G2. This is the best time to live in if you are a technology freak.
I wouldn’t say doubled. I am excited about the 83inch model whenever it does come out

I would say G4 is more accurate out of the box based on both I have measured.
At same price 77“ G4 or 85“ Bravia 9 ?
Is brightness booster available on game mode ?
That remote - jesus...

I can't wait to see it in stores. When I have seen the Sony A95L I am shocked because it is the best TV I have ever seen. I want to see how amazing the G4 looks because it might be better than the A95L.
Tough choice between both. You are talking about tiny differences between them and if you're happy, stick with what you have.

Panasonic is overrated..built in soundbar just increases the price..u can get much soundbars n connect to ur g3/g4
Unless the G3 comes in 83inch with MLA tech I'd say you certain have to go with this model then. being that everyone else on this level stops at 77inch
Don’t keep on about the remote it great it works great
Anyone know. Decent stand for a G3 , looking to replace my lg b9 oled, thanks
The remote.... i don't understand why the continue not to listen. Especially for the bigger flagship TV's.
It's one of the biggest frustrations I have with the G series TVs. Now they have fixed the issue with the stand, I hope they fix the remote next, fingers crossed.
I think the remote on my old E6 looks much better than the current ones.
Every shop only shows the TV's in hdr mode, you cant see it in live tv as in sdr content.
Agreed, some stores are really bad. Find a good one that will let you test with your own content, if you can.
75'' X95L is my choice. No more burns.
1500nits peak? LG said this is a 3000nits TV, what happened?
LG figures are on a 2% window in vivid mode. Nobody in their right mind would ever watch a TV in such a mode. In the accurate Filmmaker mode, it measures in at 1500 nits.
the smaller the measurement window and the more the inaccurate PM, the higher the measurement will be. on a 2 or 3 percent window in vivid PM, it may measure close to 3000 nits but on a 10% window in FMM, it will be 1400-1500 nits. some difference will exist from panel to panel because of panel variance and the measurement equipment used.
What is a bit disappointing is the G4 hasn't budged in any meaningful way over G3 in full screen brightness. I was hoping 300 nits. ~220 nits is meh.
@@avforums Thanks for explaining, I agree, Vivid mode is horrible
Is there a stand for the 77" version?

How does the LG G4 processing compare to the Sony A95L and Samsung S95D and S90D ?
I am in love with QD-OLED colors the QD-OLEDS superior uniformity.
Latest qd oleds didn’t have perfect uniformity by any stretch. It’s now similar between them and LG which stepped up in that regard
@@whitecrowuk575 QD-OLED’s have much uniformity. Trust me. QD-OLED as an OLED technology was a step change. Plus the price to performance on a Samsung to LG OLED is hard to justify.

At last we get a stand for once who don't want to wall mount there G4
I’m beginning to think it’s just me since everybody seems to be same all kinds of positive things about the LG. My Dolby Vision is just too dark. I’m using the filmmaker mode and it is just too dull.
