I'm gonna tell you the secret. There's a threat, you end it. And you don't feel ashamed about enjoying it-The Governor.
This from the comic or the show?
“The smell of gunpowder and you see the blood you know what that means? Means you're alive, you've won. You take the heads so that you don't ever forget.”

I’m fairly sure I’ve said this IRL at some point.
Wow! I didn’t think there’d be so much story behind this character
Yeah, there is around 8 novels that cover the story of Woodbury and the governors rise and fall, and the town continues to thrive after him, and the story continues without him.
I was actually impressed that The Vile Eye had read the novels, because it gives way more information into who Brian/Phillip is, and most people who analyze his character haven't read the novels. I read them all back in like 2019 and had forgotten how disturbing some of it was but they are great books. lol
@@panspermiapancakes that many novels for the governor? I really didn’t think the character had that much love to get this many
@@medaman15able The story continues after his death, it's not 8 novels of just the governor.
I bet even the Governor himself was only able to see about half of too lol
Something about the TV Governor you didn’t mention that I feel is important
After he panicked and murdered Martinez, we see Philip crying to himself alone that night and immediately trying to sneak out of camp with his new family. He almost certainly does this to ESCAPE that temptation and keep himself from becoming the Governor again, but the road is totally blocked and forces him to go back. Furthermore, he TRIES to just stay on the sidelines, but Pete (the new leader) almost immediately suggests to Philip that he should help him lead since he has experience and charisma. That just proves Pete to be weak willed and that’s the final straw that forces him to kill him and take over to “protect his family” since he thinks Pete is weak and the camp is in danger (which of course is true in both cases).
His outright attempt to run away from himself after having that slip up so he can save his new family and new life from who he once was is SUPER interesting to me and a missed opportunity to talk about here.
Yes I just wrote a comment about that too. That was a very Important scene for the character, weird that he forgot to mention that. It was really sad, like fate did not want him to go. And the way he looks in the car is saying the same. Martinez Camp was full of weak people, no one fit to be the leader, so in the end it falls to him again to be in charge.
Ok, but tell me this, why is Pete weak willed to be seeking council from someone who has a lot of experience? It is often said that wise leaders surround themselves with smart people whose council they can hear and decide what to do.
This open the door for videos on Negan, Shane, Rick, terminus and Alpha
I would love to see one on Rick Grimes, because he is obviously not completely evil, much the contrary, he is mostly a good man, but capable of a lot of evil.
Glad you mentioned Rick. He does his best but he is by no means wholely good.
@@rafaelalodio5116 Yes, I would say Rick and most TWD characters are chaotic neutral at best. No real good vs evil, just chaotic neutral vs neutral evil.
@@jmsgridiron5628 Yeah, I would say Rick and most folk in the twd universe are neutral; neither good nor bad. The only characters I would say a pure evil are the governor and alpha.
Rick and the survivors are seen as heroes because we follow their story from the beginning. Negan had only one episode showing a kind of origin story and it shows how different it would have been if we followed Negan’s story till he met Rick.
Example: Imagine if we followed the hospital in season 5 from the beginning and see them bump into a feral looking man with a group(Rick and the survivors), we could easily see them as villains or antiheroes at best.
Hope I did not yap too much.
Shane was all there until Rick came back. Then he went nuts. I always felt like they would have been safer with Shane than Rick. Like even to the point where Shane would have had to save Rick and family when the SHTF if Rick never went into a coma.
“He just lost it, the man in charge.”
- The Governor
Loved that moment, what a good portrayal
“Feel ya”
-Nero
I barley made it out alive
I never knew he was once a man of morals and fear. He basically just pretended to be his brother. And threw aways half of what he once was.
Something about Brian actively wanting to die at the hands of his brother after his niece dies is so powerful. Morbid, sad, and...weirdly kind of sweet. My favorite kind of horror. That even at the very end, as he goes numb from the beating and can barely think anymore, he just surrenders and lets himself die, clearly feeling he deserves it, and wants his brother to let out his pain.
Does it go down like that I was just as confused but pretty sure the Governor is Brian
@@TheeKingTulip666 No I know - admittedly I didn't know when I typed this cause I kept getting the two brothers confused lol - but I know now. I more meant like, he was perfectly willing to let himself die, and his brother just happened to spare him. I can imagine one of his first thoughts when coming to, realizing he'd been spared, was 'why?'.
Giving the T.V. version a possible redemption arc, even doomed as it is to failure because of his inner demons, was a smart move on the part of the writers. Dangle it in front of us, have us wondering if he'll have the fortitude to change for the better, then rip it all away so we understand why it was never going to happen. Some people just have done too much, like MacBeth, to turn away from the paths they've chosen. The Governor is one.
You missed the scene where TV Governor wants to escape in Martinez camp at night but walkers block his path. That was pretty importent showing he did not want to become the Governor again, rather go away from everything.
I think he killed Martinez because he thought Martinez was not a fit leader and could not protect them.
I don't think he WANTED the leadership, he felt forced to it to secure the safety of his new family.
In the end, he realizes what he is about to become and tries to escape. But walkers blocking the way, it is like fate does not want it.
I thought the exact same. I think since he put so much work into the Comic version of the character, he sort of missed some key character revealing scenes and lines in the show. Can’t really blame him tbh, have a 2 hour episode is pretty crazy, can’t fit EVERYTHING in there.
Also it was incorrect that The Governor convinced the Chambers to leave with him. He didn't want them to join him cause he knew eventually he'd become The Governor again if he had to protect people again in that world. Lily said they were coming with him no matter what he said.
Am I the only one that thought of the Emperor’s speech in Revenge of the Sith when the Governor was talking about Rick’s group?
To this day I believe that the show’s version of The Governor was at least subliminally influenced by Latso Huggin Bear from Toy Story 3. Aside from the genre and rating they are damn near the same character and it is hilarious to me.
that is true lol
Never looked at it like that but very true.... fantastic character
Couple Analysing evil ideas:
•Admiral Zhao from ATLA
•Tuco Salamanca from Breaking Bad/BCS
•Uncle Jack from Breaking Bad
•Lord Beckett from Pirates of the Caribbean
•Micah Bell from Red Dead Redemption 2
Clay morrow from sons of anarchy and EZ Rayez from Mayans would be good too.
Zhao would be nice, pretty overlooked character (though understandably so). His downfall is one of my favorite things about season one.
Dameon Targaryen from House of Dragon would be an excellent character to cover.
that low down rat micah isn't worth a twenty minute video
@@sunvinn Yeah Jason Isaacs really did a good performance plus his final fight with Zuko was sick, not surprising he got overlooked considering how well written Ozai and Azula are but he’s still a great villain
I love that you covered the books so thoroughly, I feel like most people don't even know about them. I would recommend them to any fans of the comic. They're surprisingly well-written, and Lilly and Martinez in particular are two of my favorite characters in the whole franchise.
Seriously, they’re so good, especially read by Fred Berman on audiobook. After the death of the Governor, where Robert Kirkman is no longer involved, the series really drops off in quality, but even the first couple that follow Lilly Caul afterward are still decent.
@@opti6019 Oh man I didn't know they kept going! Good for her, she deserves it.
Do they get away from the formula we all know of?
@@UCannotDefeatMyShmeat They basically show the comics storyline from Lilly and Brian's POVs.
@@UCannotDefeatMyShmeat If you’re talking about the books that continue with Lilly after the Governor dies, not really. Most of them take place in southern Georgia and northern Florida, opposite to where Rick and the gang went, so they never encounter really much of anything from the Comics, which was a shame. It kind of reminds of the Telltale’s The Walking Dead game, but with all of the bad and none of the redeeming qualities. The novels are predictable, lacking in depth, and kind of comical in their peril and violence, a lot of which the characters don’t really take the time to react to save for brief sessions of panic and mourning. For example, at one point there is a child who literally kills their own parent because said parent goes off the deep end and is about to kill Lilly, and the kid, likes, cries for a bit then it’s literally never mentioned again. I still found some enjoyment in all but the last two novels, though. Old Bob the medic stays as a character and is great, and there’s one really interesting overarching villain for a few of the books. And Fred Berman still does a great job.

Negan and Shane, yeah, sure.
Sweet Tooth and Calypso... hell yeah. Might be difficult given how many versions of each of them there are though and if we're honest; Twisted Metal doesn't really have much of a story lol
@@stumblingunnar3407Twisted Metal Black versions of both of them have much deeper lore that he can cover
Madara would make for a good video
I prefer The Governor over Negan and I'll die on that hill
Shane is more compelling than both. Give me him.
@@JayCity10 Nah, a comic book governor is pretty goddamn complicated
@@Lalvon_Zelpharr Shane, Negan, The Governor, and Alpha, are the greatest villains from the show ever. So it's all good. All four were compelling. They were the
Four Horsemen of the Zombie Apocalypse. If I had to throw in a fifth, it would be Merle. He was great too.
I prefer The Governor as an antagonist but I can’t help but love Negan’s charisma and characterization.
@@djdeadbeat4380 A piece of the show died with Shane. He was that spark.
The Governor was so well written in the show i was actually on his side the majority of the time over Michonne. The man had his community running so smooth the people were having picnics in the apocalypse and soon as he asked ppl to fight they all chickened out.
Michonne’s distrust of him didn’t make any sense, she was definitely unreasonable in the show. It was like she had read the comic and knew who he was and no one else did, that’s the only explanation as to why she was acting the way she did
theres something extra funny about a person with chloe from life is strange in their pfp saying they were also at one point on the side of the governor lmao

Video game Villain/Evil suggestions
- Jacket (Hotline Miami 1) / 50 Blessings (HM1/HM2)
- Martin Walker (Spec Ops : The Line)
- The Master (Fallout 1)
- Darth Kreia (KOTOR)
- Joseph Seed (Far Cry 5)
Joseph Seed is such a good villain man, definitely my favourite farcry 5 villain and he definitely deserves an analyzing evil video. I wouldn't consider Jacket evil but he's definitely not a good guy, he's a very interesting morally grey character either way
man, we need a video on Martin Walker.
Definitely need a video about The Master from fallout 1
Jacket didn't really do anything wrong
Darth Traya is actually a really good pick for a vid cuz she is much more complex and layered compared to most other villains in Star Wars
Such a good episode, can’t wait for you to cover Negan that will be an interesting episode
WOOOOOO LETS GO, The governor is my favourite villain in the walking dead, me and my nan have rewatched the first few seasons so many times now so I could show her this video! Either way I'm glad this villain is getting a long video like this
The Governor is one of my favorite villains. So much complexity and tragedy.
Finally! I am a huge 'Walking Dead' nerd, so I have definitely been waiting for you to get to this batch. I eagerly await your Negan video as he is the franchise's best villain, don't @ me.
LET'S GO! TWD's best villain by far. While they tone him down exponentially in the show in terms of his brutality, he's still such a menace. He actually beat Rick thoroughly in a one on one. Dude is tough, seemed to almost be on a path of redemption, and immediately brought back in by his lust for power. Negan's great too, but The Governor is too amazing, especially as the first major human and community leader antagonist.
The Governor, Shane, Negan, and Alpha, are the four horsemen of Zombie Apocalypse. No greater villains, than these four.
Aren’t the zombies the best WD villains? They’re the reason everything in the series happened
@@Lutherstrode17492 Not even. The zombies didn't force people to lose their humanity, they could have worked together. Not only that, but the zombies become a non-issue quite quickly as survivors continually adapt. Humans were always a guaranteed threat.
@@aketsuuu how coudl the zombies work together with us? They can’t feel emotion
@@aketsuuu it doesn’t really matter how well we adapt to them, the impact they had on us will never go away.
Because of monsters, we became monsters ourselves
Its interesting how the book Governor is Brian taking up the facade of his Brother actually thinking his Philip where as the TV show Governor is the real and original Phillip Blake but then in his episodes where he is at his lowest he takes up the facade of his Brother Brian for a while till he eventually turned back heel lol
I would utterly love to see you take on Handsome Jack
Would love to see a video on:
Kira Yoshikage from Jojo.
Ivar the Boneless from Vikings.
King Ghidorah from Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
I HATE the comic version of this character.
But I LOVED David Morrisey’s performance. I was cheering for the Governor during that redemption arc.
Morrisey would be my pick for a new Norman Osborn.
TV Governor is a 🐱 Comic Governor is where it's at. He's what truly changed everything in the comic story and proved without a doubt that the humans were the real threat not the zombies
He had a redemption arc? Huh
lol I have been waiting for this one of the most underrated villains on television
Thank you so much for covering the comic!
Please do the same when covering Negan, it would mean a lot.
Analysing Evil Ideas:
•Bojack Horseman from “Bojack Horseman.” (Literally the perfect one)
•Lotso from “Toy Story 3.”
•Helmut Zemo from “Captain America: Civil War.”
•Charles Muntz from “Up.”
•The High Evolutionary from “Guardians Of The Galaxy 3.”
Not all have to be done at once but they all make for great evil studies.
The governor is a much better character and villain than Negan. Negan can atleast be reasoned with and he can change, as he did. Negans also more rational and level headed which can make him scarier but he still had a good side to him, but the governor was pure evil. After watching your video tho the governor is a truly damaged and broken man and feel bad for him, after your analysis, it becomes clear that the governor was forced into this through so much trauma and I can’t really call him outright evil. Great video analysis man!
Villain suggestions for the next video:
-Handsome Jack from Borderland
-Joseph Seed from FarCry 5
-Eric Cartman from South Park
Could you please do an analysis of T-Bag from Prison Break? He's one of television's best villains and the way he can shift from charismatic and empathetic to inhumane and monstrous is unlike most other villains in fiction. An analysis of his psyche would be an absolute treasure
Ah yes, prison break
In the end human strengths come from cooperation. Civilization was founded though mutual beliefs against the things that lurk out in the dark. That's what a lot of media forgets
Reminds me of silent hill The message, and how inherently incorrect the characters beliefs are in that matter
Holy 2 hour analyzing evil video and about my favorite walking dead villain?!
I didn’t know the comic version of this. Your narrative was riveting to hear. Perfection. *chef’s kiss”
Thanks for this amazing and incredibly well done analysis of The Governor from The Walking Dead. Best wishes from Iceland!!
This is awesome. Rewatching the show, and I was watching and like damn the governor is an evil SOB, I wonder if there’s a video about him. And there isn’t so I’m like wow that’s surprising, but here we go. So many video opportunities in the walking dead universe….
Yessir bro just what I wanted, an analysis on the best TWD villain
Can’t wait to see Shane and Negan covered too
I would like to suggest : Revolver Ocelot from Metal Gear series
8 hour long video incoming
He's the epitome of neutral though
@@lpnp9477 yeah kinda true lmao
Analyzing evil: Negan TWD
Analyzing evil: Shane TWD
I don’t think he’ll do Negan until Dead City finishes, but he can totally do Shane
Shane wasn't evil though
@@dangerdang91attempting to murder your best friend because you think you deserve his wife and son and can better protect them is definitely evil lmfao. If he had actually left with Andrea then he might not have gotten to that point but when he was ready to kill Rick he was evil. Even at Ricks worst he wasn’t that depraved and ruthless. Shane was literally a less cunning and less charismatic Negan in the making.
@@vegitohaze2081 Damn, when you lay it out like that, ok good point. I never really thought he was "evil". More like a guy well suited for the new world that they now inhabit, and what Rick eventually becomes. But yeah, i guess you have a very good point
How about Gareth or Alpha but I don't know if Gareth had like some interesting backstory or somethin
Please do Miquella from Elden Ring. He is a Griffith-esque character with a lot of evil and depth. Also due to Elden Ring peaking in popularity right now the video will blow up
The illustration of the Governor in the thumbnail looks more like Danny Trejo with an eye patch.
“In this life now you kill or you die. Or you die and you kill.”
- The Governor
Lord cutler Beckett from Pirates of the Caribbean would be great
Unfortunately, trauma, abuse, and whatnot made them monsters. Good men made evil.

Homelander from The Boys
Eric Cartman from South Park
Death from Puss in Boots
Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2
Azulin from Unicorn Wars
Dio Brando or Yoshikage Kira from JoJo bizzare adventures
Analyzing evil: The Mask from Splatterhouse series

Yes a Governor episode! Would cool to see you cover the other Walking Dead characters like Shane and Negan

Scarecrow from the Arkham Series
Colin Sullivan from The Departed
Richthofen from Cod Zombies
disliking your brother because he's a piece of shit isn't evil. sure, he isn't a good brother, but Chuck definetly isn't "evil".
@@thevideocommenter3061 The reason I’m labeling chuck as evil is because he did everything in his power to stop jimmy from actually improving as a lawyer. He couldn’t let go of what jimmy was and accidentally created Saul Goodman. Things probably would have been different had chuck been more supportive.
For all the flaws of The Walking Dead you can't deny that The Governor was amazing in the show
Nah the Governor was neutered in the show. Walking Dead should have been on HBO so it could go all out
Rise of the Governor has always been one of my favorite story lines & it almost seems like it could be set in a completely different franchise & still be such a compelling story.
