The Walking Dead can never improve. It has the Gilligan’s Island problem where they can never solve the problem without ending the franchise. Everything will always be a rinse and repeat of what came before with minor twists. @@rafaelarcas942 It should be easy to understand. The show Gilligan's Island could never have them get off the Island or the show would end. As such every attempt to get off the Island was guaranteed to fail. They eventually did get off the Island in a made for TV movie but then ended up back on the Island at the end.
How it applies to The Walking Dead is that if they ever solve the Zombie Apocalypse the show ends. If they ever make it to a safe place where there are no threats the show ends. As a result they will always be recycling the same struggles over and over again to keep the show going. They always run into a new group that is a threat and overcome that group. Or else they run into a new zombie threat they overcome. Rinse and repeat.

We (blacksmiths) use chisels and hardcuts to cut even bigger pieces of steel and it's has similar shape and material as axes. If he had enough of time to heat up an axe, which is actually a big chunk of metal and would take forever to properly heat up, then he had enough of time to heat up that cable which would soften it and made it even easier. Sure, it would make a lot of noice, but cutting hand off would be much higher risk as no matter how big badass you are, you can got into a shock and then bleed to death as pre-heating exe like this wouldn't be enough to close up artery. He obviously has no way to heat up the axe or the cable, so honestly I don’t see it being possible at all. He also can’t even pull it taught for attempting a cut anyways, it has tons of slack. Perhaps in a blacksmith setting, with a sharpened axe, a heated cable, the cable pulled extremely taught, and with a hard surface beneath it, it is possible. Not in a forest with what’s likely to be a 10+ year old axe and a dude with no blacksmithing knowledge. Seems perfectly realistic to me

    My biggest issues would be:
    1) why Michonne would risk leaving her children, to look for Rick, where for 99% he would be dead? Either in aftermath of the bridge scene, or after so many years, everything could happen to him, how the hell would she find him? Just go through grief and take care of your kids, who are present.
    2) In the end, CRM’s resources are redistributed. What about those 200 000 people that lived there? Do they agree to that, do they starve? How Rick managed to organise those helicopters? One could spend entire episode on that, and instead it’s cramped into finales aftermath.

That bit about sunk cost fallacy of mediocre TV shows speaks to me. I think there’s a lot of power in streaming that we’re not utilizing. There’s 100 years worth of film and maybe 70 years worth of television in existence and a lot of it is sitting on streaming platforms as “content”. And instead of watching the greatest movies and TV shows in the history of media, we’re wasting our time watching mediocre fare just because it’s new. But there’s a world of better and more entertaining stuff in the back catalogues of every streaming service that we ignore.
I’m starting to think that we’re so trained to keep consuming new stuff because that’s kind of how our economy and society functions that we’re wasting an opportunity to exploit these platforms’ need for content. There’s a bunch of gold nuggets buried amongst the old batteries and used tissues that previous generations have already told us, “Here is the best art my generation has created,” and we’re just ignoring them like, “No thanks. I’m pretty focused on this pile of used tissues right now. They’re on top of the pile at the moment.”

Yeah yeah I get it they love him and everything but what possible reason would you think he's alive? There's no way anyone would know that someone picked him up in a fucking helicopter, maybe if they saw that I could buy them looking for whoever took him but all they saw was that he either got blown up or fell in a river and then either died or somehow didn't. And yeah I know that they also want to find him at all even if he's dead for some closure but still it's been 5 years in a world infested with zombies, there's no logical reason to conclude maybe he's still alive or that his shambling corpse I guess just went on a huge cross country trip.

I don't know if I would call it wasted potential. I think it delivered on what I've been wanting to see ever since Andrew Lincoln left in season 9: Getting reunited with his family. I did not expect the show to resolve that in just 1 season with 6 episodes, compared to how Daryl Dixon will get a (completely unnecessary imo) season 3.
I thought we would see a lot more of the CRM, but I think it would be problematic to make a potential season 2 interesting about that.
I wouldn't mind if the show got like 2-3 episodes more and the wrapped it up.
The problem with the main show for years, was that everything was dragged to eternity. It was completely unnecessary with 16 episodes pr season, and freaking 24 episodes in seasons 10 and 11.
I was just happy to see Andrew Lincoln return again. It wrapped up quickly, yes, but I wouldn't call it wasted potential. The show was mostly character driven, and it was primarily about Rick and Michonne, so I understand it from a writing point of view.
The only thing I missed was seeing the "season 5 machete Rick" that Gimple teased from the day that Andrew and Danai went on stage at Comic Con to announce the show 20 months ago.
    That Rick never appeared.
But overall, I'm satisfied. They should just leave it at season 1, imo. Although I hope Rick and Michonne somehow returns again.

He was leading that idea. After destroying Jadis's dossier, Michonne was supposed to walk away, meet up with Rick, and go home. When Michonne picked up that toy rabbit and walked into the briefing about the children being taken, she changed her mind, grabbed explosives, and told Rick what Beale/CRM had planned.

Part of me wishes the show and franchise ended with Season 8. Killing Carl was a terrible decision, but at least the Season 8 finale ended with Rick bringing all the communities together

I am quite late to TWD franchise, so I binge-watched the original 11 seasons a few months ago. What really got me hooked was that everything just made sense, every action had a consequence, it felt 'real' - well, at least until Glenn's fake death. When Rick 'disappeared' in season 9 I did not know that the actor (Andrew Lincoln) actually left the show. So I was really expecting TWD to end with Rick and Michonne getting back together (happy ending). When they didn't my TWD world finally collapsed, only to be 'resurrected' when I saw the announcement of 'The Ones Who Live'. I even subscribed to the only network that would stream this show here in the UK - and again, after watching ALL 6 episodes, my TWD world collapsed! Episode 1 was brilliant, as you said. The face of Michonne when she finally found Rick was priceless (a huge tribute to Danai's acting skills). But that was it. I might as well have just watched the last part of the last episode just to see how it ended. And even that was atrocious for reasons you have so perfectly illustrated. NOTHING made sense, NOTHING felt 'real'. And at that point I realised I was the fool for watching it.

I was a weekly watcher when the show first started. I loved the first season and especially the first episode, but I think the show peaked at episode 1, especially the art and film style. I still remember watching the series until season 5, specifically the scene where Daryl and Carol fall off a bridge in a van. At that moment I knew the series was just nonsense every week with no real risk to the main characters until the season or midseason finale. I even tried rewatching the series later to see if I could make it past that spot, and I gave up at the same season again. I loved your first Walking Dead video because I got to see how the series ended up going without having to sit down and watch it. And now I know not to waste any time with this show, even if I wasn't going to anyway lol.

The Walking Dead will never recover from the mistakes of season 8. The original show was about Rick finding his family in a broken world. Then his family died and he was gone too. It wasn't The Walking Dead anymore, it was just another post-apocalyptic show. More like a soap opera to be honest. A spin off with the same name. Carl never should've died. The show should've ended with him. I remember when he got bit and all the theories were coming out. "Rick is immune, that's why he survived his coma, the zombie virus brought him back to life but didn't turn him. Which means Carl is immune too". Surely they wouldn't kill off Carl right? Then they're getting rid of Rick too? Oh but don't worry guys, he's not actually dead, he will be in 3 movies, wait no actually a show, that will come out six years later. Enjoy your slop in the meantime. Finally the show comes out, and even though it was pretty bad and felt rushed, Rick's presence alone made it enjoyable. Until Carl is mentioned and all you can do is remember the colossal fumble of the original show.

Not even just that the show got pretty bad and started losing a lot of views around season five manly because they kept deviating way too much from the comic book storyline. It’s where it wasn’t even adaptation

Killing Carl already destroyed the entire point of the Walking Dead story, there's a reason the comics end on Carl and explore the implications of his survival as the thematic continuation of the human race. Carl surviving is the point, killing him is the same as humanity ending. You can abandon bad seasons and make something good from the ashes, but if the core of something is broken there's nothing that can be done.

50:26 The fact that I stopped watching TWD in season SEVEN and I could have guessed the CRM's apparently "super secret" motivation/mission (because it is literally the most obvious possible answer to that mystery, to the point that it sounds like parody) is actually so sad. Legitimate professionals were paid actual money to write that. And it made it into the final cut. And they treated it like a big reveal. It's hard for me to even wrap my head around something so fundamentally stupid.
