    This video proves that the upgradability of a laptop has NOTHING to do with its thickness

    Nice comparison. Have an older elitebook 850 g5 and was curious how well the elitebook line compared to macbooks

    Would love to see someone try downloading AMD overlock master utility on a latest amd laptop chip's try overclocking and undervolting it and comparing raw performance + noise levels againt macbook, surely price to performance ratio will DIP on apple side.

    It's a very good review liked and subscribied! Could you tell me about the fan noise of HP during daily usage does it kick in? Is it loud. I want to switch to same hp from same macbook you have. My main fear is fan noise. - I have returned two laptops because of fan noise :(

      I only hear fan noise when I'm rendering a video. other than that, it's very quiet.

    Great review. I just got the same laptop a few days ago. I'm also using linux on this laptop. The only one problem I have was on the suspend/resume with the original wifi card that uses ath11k module with Linux 6.1.0. I replaced with my old wifi card which uses ath10k. Supend/resume works perfectly. And I don't hear any fan noise while normal youtube watching. The only fan noise I heard was in bios stage that probably because there is no thermal support in that stage. Linux is using amd-pstate scaling driver by default on this laptop. The idle energy-rate report is ~5w and temperature 32C. Very impressive!

    Hi eric! actually I have a macbook air m1 8ram 256ssd, and I look to hp elitebook 835 g8 ryzen 7 pro 5850u 16ram 512ssd, Is the change right for me? I want to move to Windows, and maybe Linux, practically would not put more money, or I stay with Apple? Now I study cybersecurity and in terms of programs and use I see that most in the field uses Windows or Linux

    Hello Eric,
    Do you still have a good experience with the laptop after 5 months?
    How is the fan noise while watching movies/youtube and what is the average battery life while doing this?
    How is the build quality? I'm looking for a windows/linux laptop for simple tasks and the above and this is one of the few that comes close to my preferences, but i can't really find much in depth videos of longer use.
    Thanks in advance,

      Hi, I'm not the publisher, but I happen to own almost the same laptop. I have the G9 840 which is the intel version, opposed to the publisher whom has the 845 which is the AMD version.
      I love using this computer.
      Fan noise is very silent. Build quality is something I hold in high regard and was very hesitant to buy this computer for because I couldn't inspect it before purchase. I am very glad I did though. It is amazing. There is no flex in the chassis when typing. The metal makes the machine feel solid and reliable. Previously I had always admired many aspects about Apple laptops and I'd say that this Elitebook matches or surpasses those computers.
      I would argue that Apple laptops still look better but looks are superficial and there are more important things to take into consideration and I think HP has acknowledged that. One of the reasons that Apple's Macbooks look better is because the lid and base form a straight line when closed together. When open however this imposes a right angle of metal which is embraces on the wrist of the user. HP have obviously realised this limitation and made their product superior as the Elitebook delicately rounds its chassis, and it really does make it a more enjoyable experience to use.
      The trackpad on the 840 is not click unified like the Macbook's, but HP have done a pretty good job at making it a pleasant experience. While I agree that a unified click is better, I still find my slef enjoying the HP's trackpad more due to it's more prominent click.
      The battery life while using GNU/Linux on my Elitebook is not great. I'd say four hours max. I wish it were better, and it may be on Windows, but I can only tell you my experience which has very little todo with that operating system currently.
      The publisher says that sound is good. It isn't. It isn't terrible, but it isn't good either, it's just average. Gets the job done, but that's it.
      Screen quality. I'm sad to say that the screen colours are the worst aspect of this computer. Apple laptops usually have great colours. Compare the two different colours in the video. There is a stark difference. The Elitebook is sadly the one in the wrong in the comparison.
      This can be partly addressed with display settings but it is a bandaid to the real issue of inferior display.
      For anyone interested, I use KDE and have settled on these adjustments to screen gammar.
      RED=0.95
      GEEN=0.85
      BLUE=0.75
      Anyway, I am using the G9 840 and I really do love this laptop. It's arguable the most I've enjoyed a laptop ever.
      For anyone else intending on using Linux on the same laptop, you are going to want to run a kernel beyond 6.08 and you're going to need SOF Firmware.
      Good luck. :-)

    You can get better audio quality from your speakers if you use Windows instead.
    I am an engineering student using an EliteBook 840 G7 and would like to upgrade to a G9.
    In Windows, Bang & Olufsen speakers sound much better than in Linux. For me, this is a problem.

    Thx for video.
    For me the most interesting part how HP is compatible for different LINUX OS. I just want to buy this one for Debian Linux installation. So I just want to make sure there will be no problems to install Linux with Windows. As far as I know there are a lot of models with Windows 10/11 with serial numbers included in BIOS. So maybe do you know some incompatibility issues if you try to install Linux ?

    Get review brother. I have the M1 MAX MBP fully spec'd out and the same 845 G9. I haven't put my G9 down yet. If I need to do anything that will requires GPU intensive tasks, then I will switch to the MAC. I utilize Parallels on my MAC to run Linux, but it gets annoying sometimes. Plus, I don't want to pay a premium to run free OS.

    I like my 845 G9, however be aware charging other devices through the neighboring USB C and USB A port can cause the backlit keyboard lghts to fail. On my second keyboard. My prior lenovo could charge anything but not the hp. Outside of that flaw a great laptop.1

    I guess the clowns at HPE don't care about Linux users.
    BIOS updates come only for Windows. Of course you can update from USB and BIOS.
    But it takes extra time.
    I've been using the 845 G7 and Mac for about a year. Mac is much more stable and quieter )
    HPE Web camera probably coming from Nokia 3310.
