Nice little change of pace shortie video. Good info. I'm the warranty department for my company and we require a credit card authorization form filled out prior to sending a new unit out. Once I get the old unit and verify it is covered under the warranty I shred the credit card form. We had been burned many times prior to that change in policy. Rarely do I have to charge a card. Have a wonderful day my friend.
Thank you. Rock Auto warranty has always been fast and easy. Same with returns. Very good customer service. Thank you for your support, have a good one.
Man, I'm glad you showed the busted CV. I have several Trakmotive axles for my Subaru and the material and machining quality seems to be very low. I've opened up a couple brand new axles and the CV joint races are pretty rough. I do love the extended travel as that allows me to swap out axles without having to unbolt any of the suspension. Unfortunately, these axles are busting apart on people with stock vehicles and street driving.
Sorry to hear you have had bad luck with them. I have had pretty good luck with these Trakmotive units. When I broke this one it was really bound up. My buddy broke one though while just climbing a hill. When I get the $$ it will be CVJ axles time. Thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
@@funjunkiegarage No problem. I put Import Direct CV axles on my wife's 2uz 4Runner, and in less than a year, the boots are torn. I'll likely go CVJ next for hers. I have Driveshaft Shop rear axles ordered for my car. I did get a pair of Insane Shafts for the front, but they don't appear to be any better than Trakmotive or Interparts HK.
2uz 4runner sounds nice. I won't buy any other aftermarket CVs, I'll go back to stock if they quit warranting these Trakmotive units. Until I go to CVJ. Sounds like you really go through them.
@@funjunkiegarage Hey Y'all. I'm really interested in this conversation. I have a lifted 2000 4Runner with a torn boot. I'm really struggling with the solution. Do I just reboot the OEM CV, order a TrakMotive or similar axle or go for the CVJ's?
@@gbrianmullinax8448 CVJs are nice if you have the $$. Rebooting will give same result unless you get some better hi angle boots Obviously I went Trakmotive and am very happy with them . Have them.on my Tundra also
Yes, I have an auto locker in the front and rear. I use Spartans. The wheel was in an incredible bind and I chose to push it to see what would happen. New CV arrives tomorrow from warranty so I'll continue to test these and see how they work out. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Curious if the Napa offerings are any more durable being double the price but still incorporating the overall general design. I would assume materials and tolerances are of higher standard being double the price over the TrakMotives but I guess its possible they just placed an insane markup on their offering.
I don't know. They look the same. I just figured they mark them up. Would be nice if they were better. The Trakmotive are not stronger than stock but they are about the same in my opinion. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
@@funjunkiegarage Yeah I would think they'd have to be better in some capacity; whereas RockAuto might not be their direct competitor, O'Reilly's sells the same "Extended Travel" design for usually around $200 whereas Napa's offering is usually around $350. I'm sure Napa knows their competitors and where their parts are priced at so I don't think they'd offer their axle for such a substantial markup and not have any basis to back it up. Maybe that would be an interesting test; get the Napa Extended travel version and see how far you have to go to break them. The only draw back I see of these is there aren't any boot kits for them so if you already used your warranty replacement and just tear a boot, you've got to ride it out until you can chalk up the cash for a new one.
Trakmotive sells replacement boot kits for non warranty issues. At least they said I could buy them when I investigated them prior to purchasing. I'd be more interested in the CVJ versions at those prices.
@@funjunkiegarage Ah had no idea they offered them. Wonder how durable the boot is as they say they're made out of Thermoplastic. Also does the warranty cover boot failures or only catastrophic? True but its unfortunate CVJ or the other high end custom offroad axle companies only offer Toyota solutions for the most part.
They aren't bad at all. Just work the pry bar between the dust shield and the axle end ( it will pop the shield off, but it goes right back on) and pry against the diff like normal. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and asking. I appreciate your support.
Definitely worth a try. I find them to be fairly tough and the boots take the extreme angle well. I got mine from Rock Auto and they are lifetime warranty. Warranty process is easy. I've broken a couple (being stupid) If you get them, let me know what you think please. Thanks for watching and commenting brother, much appreciated.
@@funjunkiegarage Got them installed this morning. Went in easy peezy. All it took was a couple whacks from the BMFH. I usually hang the axle on a rubber bungee and hook it to the spring to give me a straight shot and worked like a charm. Ill get some miles on them next week on a road trip and see how they go. They look like a winner. I have my truck lifted 3" with 33'' so I'm hoping I see a lot better geometry out of the setup. I've had a diff drop in for a long time so that was giving me a little relief with the stock axles but this should set me straight. Thanks again.
I put these in my 1990 after I watched your video . I do not do any crazy shit in mine but I do wheel it GOOD INFO THANKS if I do brake mine! I like my system cuz you got 6 bolts and the axle is off the diff! Putting new TIERODS on mine today all MEVOTECH MES2376 Supreme; I like their product
Awesome. I hope you like them. I still think they are great. I definitely had mine in a "break" situation so I wasn't surprised when it snapped. Very nice to get a free replacement, Rock Auto warranty procedure is so easy. I do like the set up you have on the 90. I used to wheel an 88 with the same set up. I took the studs out and put nuts and bolts in mine to make it even eaiser in case of breakage. I need to do the tierod on mine. I've used Mevotech before. I should order that now.
