@toddelmsworth640 I'm still not over Halo 3 being neaely 20 years old. It's so strange to see the games we played as kids still have communities playing. Makes it feel like it wasn't that long ago.
Hearing this ingame for the first time was such a stark difference compared to the rest of the soundtrack. Same as untold legends. It almost felt alien because those 2 tracks being D1 vanilia tracks and that OST having a whole different sound to the D2 vanilia tracks.
It was over the second it began. The black heart fell, and Atheon was broken apart within the vault of glass, a construct destroyed in a maelstrom of violence. The prison break of those who once surged out walls. The rise of Crota. The fall of Lord Oryx. The splicers who hijacked humanities hope, and nearly caused our ruin to complete. Ghaul broke us, and we clawed back, yet proving humanities destiny, we alerted our greatest enemy, the Witness. Panoptes couldn’t trap us, Xol could not rend our shields. The bullet through cayde 6 from the twice born prince only honed the edge of our blades. Riven was smote, trapping and damning a proud people eternally. But we pushed on, slaying those monsters every week. Saved the black armory, answered the nine’s calls, and played emperor calus’ games, yet we pressed on. We found our ancient enemy on the moon, beneath a profane citadel of gore and bones, where it always sat waiting for us to find it. And it promised us life as a guise for oblivion. Even as the sanctified mind raged, and the vex spilled forth from the garden, we drove them back again. We changed fate and brought back one of our greatest warriors, a symbol of hope for us all. We empowered a great machine of our own design to blow the cabal’s last hope out of the sky- and it seemed it was all for naught. When they arrived, the forerunners of our end, the sky turned black. On the second day, the world ended. But we did not end that day, even as our loved ones disappeared, as our skies darkened. Through squinted eyes and clenched teeth, prayers were answered. We found the dark on Europa, that terrible power, and put down an uprising. We found and forgave our old enemy, that Twice Born prince, raised in light just as we, and liberated him from shackles again of his own making. We challenged the last splinter of the once proud cabal empire, and forged a mighty ally in the blood that was spilled, a ring of spears forming their points away from the last city, biting into the encroaching dark. Even as a terrible veil fell about the city, treachery glowing like embers, and the vex pulled the sky down on us, the light shined through and preserved us. We crossed Leylines, dimensions and stars to establish a true relationship with our kin of the reef while helping an ancient hive goddess, and held across the encroaching madness of that equine of the heavens. A great trick was played, by that ancient enemy, the goddess of lies, one who swore fealty to our oldest foe, and yet turned on them the same, attempting to wrap the traveler in threads of fate… and we cut her down, even as we tasted our own powers used against us. Even as our faith was tested by the travelers seeming abandonment. We slew armies of those who betrayed us, those raised against us. We liberated the tortured memories of those aboard the leviathan, and stopped its vile cur that still yet threatens moon, earth and the system. We hunted down ancient powers to revive one of our fallen and brightest minds… and we nearly lost everything as our old foe came once more, that mockery of light and dark from beyond the stars. We lost on neomuna, even if we didn’t know it. A city besieged, a war on two fronts… when we couldn’t do what was needed. But we didn’t quit. Even as our home was ransacked, our people taken again, and losing one of our inspirations? We fought on! We discovered new allies from the deep, new tools from enemies who wished to see born teeth. We rose to meet the challenges of beating a goddess of war, and by the light we cut her down with humanities own revenge, embodied in a woman of terrible Revengeance and Spite. And now, at the close of the play? A being once trapping us makes deals to save our lives, and that of her children. A being once slain by us we now bargain with. Defenses are erected as one way trips are planned. The true weight of the enemy lays against our walls like chains of some great vice. A mighty dragons breath scorching our walls, its claws snatching our people: even as we try and hold on til midnight, or try and fix our eye on the horizon, looking for the rising sun to save us, the dark continues to Gnaw. I don’t know what lies on the other side of the portal, my fellow guardians. It may be hell in there. We may already have lost, that infernal being within. I don’t know if we have the strength to succeed, even standing as a united people, straining against the dying of the light, that all encompassing night that would swallow us whole. Now, listen close, my friends. Charge not ye blindly unto death, but stand resolute, and with your fellows of light and dark. The teeth close in- that ancient hunger, the boiling acid of the enemy gurgles in relish at our end, yet we will not be swallowed without disruption. We will not be consumed without retaliation. For as they punch into our machine’s heart, we plunge into the gates of hell, ablaze in the fires of fate, wreathed in the storm of war, and filled with the void of fear. We stride forward unflinching, without hesitation, and embrace our end with open arms and bared teeth. Though it may take the hunters, those cloaked fellow who serve as our desperate knives, we lash as hard as we can. From the shadows of that long night humans have strived from, the brink of disaster all of us know so well in our bloody hearts. From those who ride the storms and guided the herds, serving since the day the shepherds crook became their long-gun. To those who stand as justice in our unjust world, knife and six gun in hand, with luck and gamble in the other. With those who stalk the cold night, and rip from flurries of winter. And with those who run the threads of fate, who sling to the highest skies for the fiercest of dives. We run. To those studious ones, Warlock and Wizard adorned in Robe of many colors, and with arcane tones and heavy hearts, we prepare for the battle. With those who embody and drink the storm, possessing them like a demon of wind. With those who look into the end and draw strength, sating their deep hunger with the finest of feasts, the flesh of reality. Those who rise with the dawn, their swords aflame, their wings born as challenge to the stars, of mankind’s destiny, and their aura bright. With those who cease the dissonance, and join the cold, to be the instrument of death and control. And with those who now weave the mind, the soul, and the body of so many small warriors to gnaw at the enemies every weakness. We prepare. And with those brave, bold ones, glad in great armor and vigor, and with a mighty heart, those intrepid and unyielding titans. Those who throw themselves from on high to decimate the traitors, the true wrath of humanities forgotten gods of lightning. Those who hold the line, until the end of time if they need to, their hearts resolved to die if they must for all others to stand where they could not. Those who strike fear into the hearts of enemies, and cut their pathetic, writing minds from the weave of souls like chaff. To those wreathed in ice, that through sheer might and determination, grind at the bones of the world, glacier in fist. And to those flame, those who can still carry a hammer, when there are still more suns to break, I call to you. Fall. Fall upon the hordes. Fall upon the mighty. On the wicked. On the self-righteous. On those who reason and those who fight for instinct. Baptize the land and cleanse it in fire, that ancient god of humanity. Soak it in storms of wind and ice, strike it with bolts of lightning and rage. Tear it from reality, and sever the minds of our foe. We are human. But we are more than that. The first time seeing this and being horrified that the outside of the galaxy there's just a Darkness entity slumbering at the edge and I was like "Is that vex? Is that Hive? What the hell nothing matches that architecture!"
You see him and he is satisfied. Then, he is gone. Your roar of defiance echoes into the infinite. You know they will Witness. It is only a matter of time.
I love this cutscene seeing the light explode across the system and somehow out of it It's so cool and getting to hear The Darkness theme and see in the Pyramid ships so cool Kind of wish we could have another cool Cinematic like this
I remember seeing this the first time thinking wait it looks like something is there. Then that burst of light and the pyramids. Truly epic. Hard to believe so much time has passed
you know this is symbolic to the later content that would come as the traveler touched mercury first which was curse of osiris, mars second which is warmind and the reef third which is forsaken. or I'm just stupid either or.
@Pentagrxxm Here's my theory: At that particular shot, the light is enveloping Jupiter, not Saturn or the Dreadnought. It could be the shot was a misdirect, and the real focus was Europa.
You know its always chilling to see this cutscene and right there in Saturn's orbit, the dreadnaught and i completely glaze over that it was never technically destroyed after Taken King. Then i ask myself what is still lurking in there?
I hope, following the conclusion of Final Shape's year of content, we get a sort of ultimate edition or remaster or whatever you call it where we can play every campaign from D1 to present back to back
During the Red War the player loses everything, explores huge new worlds, confronts and defeats the Red Legion in a grandiose and immense atmosphere, and there at the end this cutscene which encapsulates our entire adventure, the worlds that we explored in D1, the gigantic Almighty, this cutscene makes him nostalgic and insignificant, very small with an even more serious threat than that of Gaul, this cutscene is incredible for that.
Fun fact it would have taken two full years for the travelers light pulse to travel from earth to the pyramids that were just chilling outside the ort cloud.
This is the best cutscene I’ve seen in Destiny history. The way the choir sings as the majestic light wave passes through the universe is so beautiful.
I'll never forget how epic this was back then. It's hard to believe it's been 7 years. Time's gone by so fast. My hope is that before Bungie decides to close production on D2 and move to D3, that they bring back all the old content back for people to enjoy. The way I see it...if the new Call of Duty Black Ops game is going to be 300+ GBs, then I don't mind if Destiny 2 is that large. So long as all the old content is back and archived for us to enjoy and for New Players to get the full D2 experience. I'm sure this won't happen, but it should.
it piss me off a lot not being able to enjoy all the content, but you cannot make that to your player base even if other gamr weights 300gbs....but they could release a "voluntary download" or offline experience that permits you to play the whole narrative of Destiny, I hate so much having missed key plots just because they were seasonal content
This for me is THE cutscene in Destiny. It reminded me of the beauty of the story/lore, the hope that the Traveler and Light brings to the people of Sol and the dread that follows when you see the Black Fleet for the first time. For me there's never been such an experience in a game; we stood on high after defeating Ghaul, celebrating out victory and restoration of the Last City followed by the sheer terror of the fact the Great Enemy is awake and knows where we are.
This scene had so so so many questions. When the Traveler awoke, did it know its Paracausal Light would expand to awaken The Darkness? Did it wake up because it was confident that the mortals were strong enough now to take it on?
my take was always that the Traveler saw Ghaul as too much of a threat to its proxy army and not enough to the Witness that it begrudgingly acted hoping we would rebuild and strengthen fast enough to take on what it was about to awaken
Remember when we assumed there were actual beings in those pyramids? A new enemy race to fight!😂 Such wasted potential. You will never get answers to any questions regarding this games weak story.
@@TheMajesticMrL it was the biggest Bungie suprise to me since the reveal of The Flood in Halo CE. I thought the fleet was some hyper advanced Vex Collective, due to the geometric shapes.
We thought we won, in that moment Ghaul was destroyed, in the moment we believed we had made it..And yet, we may have doomed all of creation. So now, we must once more rise. Not just for ourselves, or for Sol, or for our allies. But every living thing that ever was, or is to be. It's been a honour Guardians..I'll see you all starside, win or loss. We will fight this fight head on, together.
I remember seeing this for the first time. I wasn’t as impressed with D2 as I had hoped; campaign was alright in ways, but not so in others. Sandbox felt the same. I was starting to regret my faith in this relatively new franchise having spent so much time in D1 and taking the leap with D2… And then this played. The Tribulation theme was a nice call back, and after seeing the expansion pass for Osiris and Warmind, I kind of liked the foreshadowing of those locations here. Then it showed the wave hitting the Reef, and the Dreadnaught, and I was like: Oh wow are they showing all the future DLCs or something? And then it kept going… and going… and going… Then I understood… and grew cold. The true enemy, the Darkness can see us now. And I was hooked.
It does make sense how long it took those ships to arrive in retrospect, those ships are way out in the space between galaxies, probably were on their way to Andromeda since its out closest neighbor. Imagine how far that is and they werent even close to Andromeda
hey this game looks kinda neat, can't wait to play the campaign which contains this cutscene which will be in the game because why would a developer remove content people have paid for.
The lore tab of one of the Exotic ships explains it, kind of. The lore tab in question is a continuation of the lore book, Constellations, which is both from the Traveler's perspective and the from all the Speakers, including our Speaker. It covers the Traveler's perspective of when it broke free of Ghaul's cage. The shockwave of light is basically described as an echo of the Traveler's "roar of defiance" when it broke free. Basically, the shockwave wasn't intentional. It was just a consequence of the Traveler breaking free of Ghaul's cage.
Basically the witness didn't have the veil at that time so he couldn't do the final shape But also after the collapse till red war the witness thought the traveler was a shell of its former self so he didn't even bother. that is until red war where the traveler fought back against gaul and after that the witness found out he could still create the final shape so they returned to sol to find the veil so they can create the final shape.
Bungie told us to use this cutscene as a content road map. The light Touched Mercury, Mars, The reef and the dreadnought before panning beyond our galaxy to the pyramids and we've gotten dlc content in that exact order. first was Mercury which was Curse of Osiris Next was Mars which was Warmind Next was the reef with Foresaken then the Dreadnought which was Witch Queen and the return of the Kings Fall raid. When it touched the Pyramids, It was a reference To Beyond Light, ShadowKeep and LightFall which were all Pyramid and darkness expansions.
I remember annoying my friend about this back in highschool because I was a math and astronomy nerd at the time. I did some scuffed math for how long it took the light to reach the moon at max speed (since there's a build up before it goes faster). I landed somewhere at 112000 Miles Per Hour. Which is roughly 70000 below the speed of light. Traveling at 1 light speed (using google because I haven't been in astronomy class in a long time) you would have traveled 5.88 trillion miles. So, heres the fun part. Our Galaxy is 100,000 light years in length. Now lets be generous and cut that into 3/4 so 75000 light years since the start point is in the middle of the belt but it still has to travel to the pyramids outside of the system. And we'll simplify it and say the light was going at the speed of light to keep the math simple. So the very scuffed answer is "75000 years".
it's paracausal so it gets to ignore physics, because space magic. but that is a good question. unfathomably fast. we see a shot of our galaxy at a distance of what i assume is implied to be several million light years and the light blast emanating from it reaches the camera in seconds. as far as I'm aware most sci-fi FTL barely comes close to it. it's functionally teleportation, imo.
@@hahaureadmyname exactly, that's why you just gotta roll with random sci-fi bs if you want to enjoy it sometimes. Dig to deep and you'll get frustrated or confused. That's why bungie introduced the word "paracausal", so they have a label to explain something that cant physically be explained
The Light pulse starts out at a sub-luminal velocity but appears to accelerate as it expands. By the time it reaches the Black Fleet it had to be going several times the speed of light.
When we get a shot of the whole galaxy, it makes no sense how fast the Light travels. Our galaxy is hundreds of light years tall and thousands wide, but in that cutscene the Light and the light it emanates appear to travel faster than light.
To be fair if it’s going to move that fast outside the Milky Way, it wouldn’t be visible inside of it either. Sure it’s not physics but at least you can see it, I’d rather the physics not be accurate than have the light on Earth fly past the screen in half a second or have to wait 30 minutes for it to pass to the black fleet.
The Traveler considered Ghaul too much of a threat I assume. It was likely also a side effect of The Traveler breaking free from the cage the Cabal put around it. -Breshi
I said it before and I'll say it again: TTK and Red War were the only well written Destiny stories. None of Witch Queen (which i mention cuz everyone heralds it) was surprising from a writing standpoint if you played red war and read the books of sorrow, but Red War was one of the few genuine "oh shit" moments I've ever had with Destiny since the alpha days
brh stop with the nostalgia, red war was one of the most generic stories ever, and outside of (very well written) lore books TTk was nothing special either, but as you said Red war is probaly the most "emotional" story , the first mission being a good example but also the end cutscene was the "oh shit" moment you described, but as far a writing goes witch queen is miles better and the rest
I miss when the Darkness was the main villain. The witness is not nearly as scary as the concept of a primordial, cosmic force that’s trying to kill us
You could consider the Witness as a primordial, cosmic force in a way. However, if what you mean was the Witness being the antithesis of the traveller instead of some boring psychedelic mushroom thing I completely agree. I still don't even understand what the traveller and this so called veil is at the end of the light and dark saga! If only they kept the giga chad Joe Staten around maybe this story would be less frustrating. But hey, maybe I am just being too nostalgic about Halo. Thank you for reading my blog.
@@DavidDaniels-h5pthe end of the light and darkness saga doesn’t mean it’s the end of the light and dark. The things you want to see are still possibilities.
@@_essence_07 I never said they could not or should not be explained at some point beyond the "light and darkness" saga, that would be silly. I just find it frustrating they named it the "light and darkness" saga without explaining the traveler and the veil more, with some room for interpretation.
They had to end the 10 year story eventually. Nothing worse than animes that never end and it just never feels like anything has any meaning because you know it's just gonna go on for 10,000 episodes.
This will forever be the most legendary cutscene in all of Destiny history.
The first humans stepping on mars and seeing the traveler is more iconic.

You know its always chilling to see this cutscene and right there in Saturn's orbit, the dreadnaught and i completely glaze over that it was never technically destroyed after Taken King. Then i ask myself what is still lurking in there?
and in several months we get to go back :)
@@EddieFreak Gamer I am so stoked to go back, and I'm ready for bloodbourne guardians!

Thats the milky way...
The Traveler's Light is paracausal, it doesn't follow the laws of the universe. hence why it's almost instantly all over the universe.
@@FierceDeityBaryon we love the lite 😊
Just love Darkness theme so much.
Love this cutscene. Can’t believe the light and dark saga is nearly over
"It's divine wind will rush through the stars! Propelling all who are worthy along the path to Salvation!"
When I finished the red war and saw this cutscene I didn’t even notice all the ships in the background only saw the ones in the front
the sunset thumbnail goes hard
Don't worry mister Witness, i'm sure those gardians will take great care of the exotic fusion rifles your severed body part dropped
This game has so much greatness that newer players, and even vets, will never get to experience… it should be a crime
Our end begins.
Pyramid Mind was here.
The time has come
Treasured memory of mine when me and my buds were watching this in complete silence and when the pyramid ships turn on my buddy just goes
….Doritos?
I love how you can see all the smaller Pyramid ships and the one Big mother ship in the middle. The witness is definitely an A*** pull for lightFall
@@nd8490except… there is a new enemy race lol. Even without counting the Witness, which is the Black Fleet itself.
It knew. The lore tab of the Radiant Accipiter confirms this.
@@TheMajesticMrL it was the biggest Bungie suprise to me since the reveal of The Flood in Halo CE. I thought the fleet was some hyper advanced Vex Collective, due to the geometric shapes.
It’s giving me Profound halo vibes 🫡😪
this scence reminds me of the wheel of time where the acctual vilain isnt even around till book 5 and there was already so much choas lol
There are some guardians that don't even know about The Red War
Fake fans that don't even matter really 😂
We thought we won, in that moment Ghaul was destroyed, in the moment we believed we had made it..And yet, we may have doomed all of creation.
So now, we must once more rise. Not just for ourselves, or for Sol, or for our allies. But every living thing that ever was, or is to be.
It's been a honour Guardians..I'll see you all starside, win or loss. We will fight this fight head on, together.
The tune in this first released version of this cutscene sounds way more ominous than the edited version they inputted later on
I remember seeing this for the first time. I wasn’t as impressed with D2 as I had hoped; campaign was alright in ways, but not so in others. Sandbox felt the same. I was starting to regret my faith in this relatively new franchise having spent so much time in D1 and taking the leap with D2…
And then this played.
And then it kept going… and going… and going…
Then I understood… and grew cold.
And just like that, it’s over..right?
doritos were chilling in the void but big white ball had to provocate😞😞
Now it makes sense!!! Those ships that we’ve seen from this cutscene were The Witnesses ships
Oh yeah it took Them That long....i feel old.
The black fleet may be gone. But one final threat looms within A higher plane of existence. The winnower..
The Winnower isn't evil
I miss Red War
hey this game looks kinda neat, can't wait to play the campaign which contains this cutscene which will be in the game because why would a developer remove content people have paid for.
I’d like to have all the old content i payed for.
I wish they would make standalone singleplayer destiny game that you can play for the whole story from d1 to d2
Back when the Pyramids were pre-universal beings. Now they shuttle Fallen and Hive to destroy toy boxes full of turrets, wires, and decoys 😂
Damn gave me a mass effect vibe
Did it ever answer why the Traveler sent out a massive beacon
The lore tab of one of the Exotic ships explains it, kind of. The lore tab in question is a continuation of the lore book, Constellations, which is both from the Traveler's perspective and the from all the Speakers, including our Speaker. It covers the Traveler's perspective of when it broke free of Ghaul's cage.
The shockwave of light is basically described as an echo of the Traveler's "roar of defiance" when it broke free. Basically, the shockwave wasn't intentional. It was just a consequence of the Traveler breaking free of Ghaul's cage.
This cutscene is PERFECTION. But why did it take OVER 6 YEARS FOR THEM TO GET TO EARTH THEY HAVE LIGHTSPEED SHIPS
Do you guys think we’ll visit galaxy pools during the final Shape campaign?
Jingles of the balls
I don’t understand something so was the witness just chilling not doing anything? Why was the black fleet dormant?
Basically the witness didn't have the veil at that time so he couldn't do the final shape
But also after the collapse till red war the witness thought the traveler was a shell of its former self so he didn't even bother. that is until red war where the traveler fought back against gaul and after that the witness found out he could still create the final shape so they returned to sol to find the veil so they can create the final shape.
Bungie told us to use this cutscene as a content road map.
The light Touched Mercury, Mars, The reef and the dreadnought before panning beyond our galaxy to the pyramids and we've gotten dlc content in that exact order.
first was Mercury which was Curse of Osiris
Next was Mars which was Warmind
Next was the reef with Foresaken
then the Dreadnought which was Witch Queen and the return of the Kings Fall raid.
When it touched the Pyramids, It was a reference To Beyond Light, ShadowKeep and LightFall which were all Pyramid and darkness expansions.
how fast do you think the light was moving? in warp speed(star trek) calculation.
The light doesn't have to obey the laws of physics because it's paracausal
To be fair if it’s going to move that fast outside the Milky Way, it wouldn’t be visible inside of it either. Sure it’s not physics but at least you can see it, I’d rather the physics not be accurate than have the light on Earth fly past the screen in half a second or have to wait 30 minutes for it to pass to the black fleet.
What was the reason for the blast?
The Traveler considered Ghaul too much of a threat I assume.
It was likely also a side effect of The Traveler breaking free from the cage the Cabal put around it.
-Breshi
Shockwave emitted by the traveler as it reawakened and killed Ghaul
Wow there are guardians who have not played through the Red War
@@JamesTheTurnbull i played it. Been there since the beginning. I knew it was a blast of light but was never sure what exactly it did.

And now here we are, 2 weeks away from experiencing what will most likely be an unsatisfying ending to this convoluted story. It's been a ride...
If only they followed that up with a good story
I said it before and I'll say it again: TTK and Red War were the only well written Destiny stories. None of Witch Queen (which i mention cuz everyone heralds it) was surprising from a writing standpoint if you played red war and read the books of sorrow, but Red War was one of the few genuine "oh shit" moments I've ever had with Destiny since the alpha days
I'm still trying to figure out to this day what was the well written story of TTK? "Orxy is taking enemies, stop him". Where is the well written story?
Yessir Red War was slept on dominus Gaul was a badass
brh stop with the nostalgia, red war was one of the most generic stories ever, and outside of (very well written) lore books TTk was nothing special either, but as you said Red war is probaly the most "emotional" story , the first mission being a good example but also the end cutscene was the "oh shit" moment you described, but as far a writing goes witch queen is miles better and the rest
i fuckin hate the witness
They shoulda never came 😂
I miss when the Darkness was the main villain.
When the Halo rings fired how did the Traveler survive?
