great reaction! hope you react to more of them. they've gained quite some popularity globally in the past 2 years, after almost 10 years of hard work (they started in 2015). if you want more by them, i'd recommend GiriGiri, Maningen, or for something older Koi Geba and Koinosyadanki.

Otona Blue is Atarashio Gakko's break through song; it went viral on Tik-Tok in 2023 and then this video got millions of views. There's a pun in the song title as "otona blue" means "adult blues", but Suzuka always introduces it as "otona buru" which means "like an adult". The song is about female awakening and was written by AG! when they were still teenagers...so it's a tricky subject. They sing about being aware of the "male gaze" and wanting to experience adult emotions, or at least their fantasy of them, but know that they are still too immature.
The tallest member is Suzuka and her extrovert personality and strong singing voice make her the obvious on stage front woman, but Mizyu (shortest and with the 2 hair bunches) is the oldest and was once seen as the leader and now AG! are always quick to say that they have no leader. This really comes from the way they work together on the song lyrics and the choreography so AG! is very much a mutual project for them. They show their creativity in this video by adapting the Otona Blue choreography to 4 static microphones and coming up with a funny and dramatic way to get on and off stage that becomes part of the performance.

It is the norm on First Take to just play or sing the song with no frills of choreography and such. Atarashii Gakko decided that was BS and they were going to do some limited choreography even if they weren't supposed to. They definitely bring the fun!

I dig your reaction in that you absolutely got what AG is all about. For more Gakko goodness, do check out their songs Tokyo Calling, Seishun Wo Kirosakuhado, and Koinosyadanki. These three songs represent different stages in AG's musical development. Get ready to go into an AG rabbit hole. 😊
